My uncle and I used to come here often to grab our tamales. I really appreciated this place and kept coming back. The last couple times I've been it's just been a weird experience as far as service. I came in today to grab my last fix from this spot before I move out of Long Beach- I rolled out of bed and figured catching the bus would be easy- I only brought so much cash so I had to ask a couple questions and buy the cake on a separate purchase. I wasn't intentionally being difficult I'm just on a budget lol The woman with the dark hair and heavy eyeliner was so incredibly rude to me it made me almost uncomfortable to be there anymore- I've been a server and I've worked in a bakery in Long Beach off Anaheim I get it. But I was genuinely being kind and respectful to these girls. I'm very disappointed in the service. I don't know if it's because I looked like I just rolled out of bed because I did, or if I asked one too many questions but to top it off I feel like they short changed me? Maybe I didn't see the taxes? I'm confused how the total was 16 dollars and some change but I got 1.80 back. And then I bought a little cake cup and she said it was 4.50 but I was charged 5.45? I don't understand. To top it off the tamales were disappointing with too much masa this time around. I stopped by on my way to work to grab a few items so we can munch on them later at the office. I bought a cheese danish, cream cheese & jalapeno pastry, and two tamales. Tres leches chocolate cake The chocolate they use is the same one they put on dipped ice cream or choco-bananas if you know what that is. The cake was moist and delicious!! Best cake I have tasted that was chocolate. Definitely worth a buy!! Cheesecake The cheesecake was decent. Not the best, but it also wasn't too sweet. It does taste like it was made in house. The bottom had a cooked crust not graham crackers or crust. The jam on top wasn't good, it had a sticky, plain taste nor did I eat the strawberry. If you take it off then you'll be good. This was not my first time visiting Marilus. In fact this is one of many. Marilus is usually my indulgence I reward myself after a very long week of work. The pastries are delicious...but the tamales.. oh my. The best chicken, pork and cheese tamales in Long Beach. I've been everywhere in long beach and no one IMO can touch Marilus. their security company wrongfully towed my car. I bought a concha and a torta and they still towed my car even though the entire parking lot was empty and my car was just their for a little bit. I even asked the lady and she said it was ok to park. I am very disappointed. Now I am down $450 during the holiday time and no one is helping me. Looks are deceiving‍ My neighbor said this place had good sweets and I was looking for a bakery and didn't want to spend a lot of money. I decided to give them a try and the service was GREAT from the moment I walked in. I showed them a picture of what I wanted and they said they could do it with the exception of the the golf cart and clubs(I ordered those on Amazon). Long story short this cake was a hit, EVERYONE raved about the cake. One guest said it was fluffy and the jelly filling was the best she's had. I was immediately greeted when I walked in and the girl behind the counter asked if I needed any help. Ive been coming here for like 5 years, Nadia usually takes my order over the phone. i have never been disappointed in their 3 leches cakes - they're sooo good. I came 2 weeks ago and had a cake made and the girl told me there's a new baker - and i was soooo disappointed in my cake. Pan dulce is pretty decent 7.5-8/10, but the food is so bland and flavorless. The masa for the tamales taste old and the tamales have no salsa! Also they don't even give any salsas on the side. I don't know who hires the girls that work here but man do they need to hire more polite people! Some of the girls here are really rude and give you nasty looks! Especially the girl who has ugly looking chola eyebrows! She is really rude and she gives you attitude. Such variety! Such choices! And such friendly service! My boyfriend were hunting for something sweet after our dinner of burgers, fries and beers, and, as usual, Yelp! came to the rescue. Nadia was the employee who helped me when I went in person to order. She was so great,very friendly and so helpful. I picked up the cake three days later and it was beautiful and was the hit of the party. Everyone loved it. The cake was just right not overly sweet and had such a light spongy cake with real whipped cream. A piece of heaven in each bite. I'm sold on Marilu's. I got two tres leches cakes here, one traditional quarter sheet cake and a long mocha rectangle cake. They were both very delicious and cheaper than other bakeries! The tres leches had a lot of fruit, and the mocha tres leches was surprisingly good! My co-workers gobbled them up. I will definitely come back for tres leches cake here from now on. They offer plenty other baked goods, both sweet and savory. They also offer deli items, and juices! I haven't had a chance to try them yet but I will soon. Staff was very nice and helpful, especially when I made my cake order. They have parking behind the store, but it is only open during the day, I believe.
