I have to say this restaurant was a real find. Service was very good... the food was excellent. Started with foul (and amazing bread) and then a dish called Mathloothah -- an authentic rich dish combining three layers of food: Jreesh, Qursan, and Rice, Topped with pieces of lamb or chicken. We had the chicken -- served as half chicken. The chicken was small, but amazingly soft and delish. The plate itself was very large -- lots of great tasting rice, spices (not hot) and a yogurt. We'll be going back again soon to try more dishes. And oh the sambusas were really good too -- fried, but not greasy. read more

We stumbled across this Yemeni restaurant by chance and we couldn't have been happier. The Haneeth and Fahsa were both delicate and flavorful. I had the buffet which is only available on Fridays. The food was extremely underwhelming and barely seasoned. I agree with the reviewer James G. that the food is flavorless (I eat plenty of Middle Eastern and South Asian food but never had Yemenese food... perhaps it's meant to be flavorless?). It leads to a very forgettable meal. The only decent buffet item was the tandoori chicken. I also became ill while at the restaurant, I assume something was old or spoiled but I'm not sure (we think it was the meatballs as another person got sick). I was happy that I didn't end up vomiting as I was on the verge of for most of my time there as I waited for others to finish. It may have just been a rare fluke but I won't be coming back. read more

I went here for lunch today. I was the only patron, so I was worried about the food quality. I ordered the lamb, I believe it is called, "Haneeth." The lamb was seasoned and cooked very well: I think lamb is a tricky meat in that a lot of places don't cook it right. This place nailed it. The food quality was excellent. The service was excellent. I highly recommend this place. I think this restaurant is not a hot spot for lunch because they don't have a separate lunch menu with cheaper prices. I had the Haneeth and a coke, and it came out to about $20. There was plenty of food and the price was fine, but I cannot imagine a lot of people spending $20 each day on lunch. However, I will be eating here again soon. read more

This place was superb. We came for iftar with friends the other day and every dish was amazing. We had the chicken mandi, the fahsa, hummus with meat, maraq (lamb broth), salad with yogurt, and liver-- and mint lemonade, tea and bint as sahn for dessert. Everything was superb. I can't even highlight one dish as the best because they were all so good. The service was great and they even had a place to pray. The place is nice and open. Even the kids had fun! The only down side was that the prices were a little steep but I think the quality makes it worth it. Overall Marib was exceptional --highly recommended! read more

We came here on a recommendation from a friend and I'm glad we did. The food is absolutely fantastic with huge portions at good prices. Everything we ate was super delicious. Also the lemonade was just great. The service was a bit slow at first but they seemed a bit busy and the waiter picked up on stuff at the end. Also the manager (owner?) came and spoke with us afterward, he was very nice and seemed happy that we enjoyed the food. The decor was pretty nice and the music playing set the mood well. I have been there three to four times with my family because I am fond of arabian food. I used to live in Dubai.I always go to arabian restaurants. In the beginning food was wonderful but now quality was very poor and service has been changed. There was only one server in whole restaurant. I ordered fahsa and lamb mandi last time but the flavor was different.They put very small piece of lamb in lamb mandi. Quanity for fahsa was not enough for two people. There are so many reasons why I love this restaurant. The atmosphere is light, warm, and inviting. It is clean and uncluttered. The food is consistently wonderful--full of flavor and plentiful. Hands down, the best hummus I've had anywhere, including my homemade! The lamb broth is complex and warming. The best thing, though, are the people who work there. My five other friends and I walked into this store trying to be adventurous. After seeing this 5 star place on Yelp, we decided to give it a try. As we sat, we were greeted by a lady waitress. She took our drink orders and just stopped serving us randomly and didn't even give us our drinks. We had to ask some other guy for service and water. I ordered the two main Yelp suggestions and they were not very satisfying. The lamb had too much fat on it and barely had any meat. The chicken was okay and kind of bland. We ordered a total of 7 dishes and none of them were very satisfying. The service overall was subpar and the most disappointing thing was the dessert my friend ordered. The waiter came and saw that we barely touched it and we said it wasn't very good and if we could get something else. However, he sadly just smiled and walked away. Had the Friday afternoon lunch buffet - good but not worth the price -- overpriced at $16. When I called around noon they said it starts "around 1:30-2", and when I asked how much they said they weren't sure yet (??) but about $20 or less. Strange. Seemed pretty pricey but based on the excellent reviews here I thought I'd try it as I enjoy this style of food (never had Yemeni food however). When I arrived I asked the price and was told $17. When I went up to ask for the check, it was $16 + tax which was just under $17, so a pleasant surprise being less than I thought. The manager was inviting and interested in me trying everything. After I sat down with my food and ate for at least 5 minutes, still no one came to offer me water or a beverage. There were only 1 or 2 other tables filled so the place was pretty much empty. There were 4 total staff I could see milling around but it apparently didn't occur to any of them to see if I needed a beverage. I finally waved one of them over (a teenage boy) and asked for water. He never returned with it. Five minutes later I waved to another guy who brought me water several minutes later. Pretty unbelievable -- the phrase "you had one job..." comes to mind. Halfway through my meal I was told that a can of Coke or Sprite was included if I wanted one, and was shown the cooler next to the buffet. Shouldn't I have been told this at the beginning? The food: Average, not great. Decent selection but not huge. Things weren't labeled so these are my descriptions (this is everything being served): Chicken pieces in sauce - fell right off the bone, good but just tasted like normal chicken, nothing special. Lamb chunks in sauce - very good, exotic spices. Vegetable stew (in a tomato sauce) - excellent, subtle delicious spices. Bright red chicken (looked just like Tandoori chicken) - much softer than Tandoori chicken, decent but not that exciting. Both types of rice were excellent, especially the one with more stuff in it which was sweeter Mint sauce dish with bread pieces in the sauce - very good. White yoghurt dish - ok, didn't taste too exotic or exciting, mostly tasted like plain yoghurt. Hummus - ok, overly smoky for my taste Meat soup (just broth) - tasty but extremely oily so not to American tastes. Flatbread (like pita) - ok, not great. Dish of just lettuce and tomato chunks - presumably for putting the yoghurt dish on top. Dessert - pieces of a hard type of cake - good but overly sweet. Fruit - cantaloupe & watermelon pieces. I have had much better Indian buffets for way less money. It was nice to try a different type of cuisine but I wouldn't return for the price, especially considering the food was only pretty good. When the place was so empty (a few more tables arrived after me) it seems that the price is too high, especially considering the neighborhood. Years ago I used to enjoy an Afghani buffet on Rt. 1 in Alexandria (just south of Potomac Yards area) which was way better and more interesting. Not sure if it's still around. read more

I haven't eaten much Middle Eastern food before and stumbled onto this place via Yelp. The mint lime juice was refreshing and delicious and my chicken dinner superb. I tend to be very particular and somewhat critical with Yemeni cuisine at any restaurant considering I've grown up eating it most of my life. As far as the food is concerned, Marib is quite exceptional thanks to a warm and welcoming atmosphere, great service and outstanding food overall. My family and I ordered a mix of different dishes starting off with the famous marag and shafoot, and moving on to the main entrees like mandi, haneeth, and fahsa. I'm happy to say that we weren't disappointed. The dishes were not only well portioned for the price, but they were cooked just right, bursting with plenty of flavor. After the entrees, we washed down all the goodness with traditional Yemeni tea (chai with milk or chai karak). I highly advise management to consider decorating the restaurant with photos of Yemen's beautiful landscapes or traditional antiques to entice customers with that authentic Yemeni vibe. read more

My 16-year-old son and I went to Marib when we were in the area based on the reviews. Neither of us had ever had Yemeni food. He ordered the Maraq broth, because he couldn't believe anything could cost $1.50. I wasn't sure he would like lamb broth with spices, but he absolutely loved it. Think he would have consumed a bowl of it. I ordered the Yemeni Style Salad, thinking it would be a small side thing, but it was huge! In a big white bowl. Fresh and delicious, and I took most home. Son ordered the Chicken Mandi -- chicken was hot, tender, well seasoned (although he would have liked more seasoning, I think), rice was great, and little onion straws on top were good, too. I ordered the Qulabah Chicken. It was brought out in a cast iron bowl boiling. Slightly spicy and really, really good. The Sahawiq salsa on the side and the pita bread were great, too. They forgot to bring my tea, but our server prepared it to go and didn't charge us for it. Wonderful place! We will be back. read more

This was a great experience. For two people to share, oedered the foul, the salteh, and the appetizer with the yogurt and bread, which also was sprinkled with pomegranate. Foul and appetizer were both amazing - foul really garlicky and rich, appetizer very tangy and flavorful. Salteh was good but not a knockout.
