As always, the atmosphere at Maria's is so welcoming, and this visit was 10/10. We sat outside on the outdoor patio. For it being a July evening, it was cool and the fans made it more comforting. Ivan was our waiter, he was attentive and gave great recommendations. We ordered a small pitcher of their seasonal watermelon sangria to start. One of our favorite things that Maria's offers is their seasonal sangria! For an appetizer, we ordered the special: Nachos Fiesta de Mar. These were unbelievable. Creamy lobster, shrimp, and lump crab piled on crispy nachos, topped with queso fresco, mango pico, avocado, jalapenos, and drizzled with chipotle cream. Honestly, could have licked the plate clean. For my entree, I had the Churrasco Argentino. The shell steak was cooked perfectly at medium and it was topped with the perfect amount of chimichurri, with extra on the side if needed! The side of rice and string beans rounded it out really well. My dad had the bronzino special, which came with rice and beans as well. It was fresh and cooked exactly how he wanted it. He couldn't stop raving about it. We finished with their classic fried ice cream. I was so full and only had a bite, but it was incredible. Highly recommend Maria's for a welcoming atmosphere, excellent service, and delicious, unique dishes.

The food and drinks were delicious! I would make a reservation, luckily for us, there was a spot at the bar. The only thing that I have an issue with is that they charge for seltzer, $4! I didn't know they charged for seltzer AND refills, so $8 on just seltzer... other than that my app was scrumptious. I got the ropa vieja. I honestly would be back, but the charging of the seltzer really deters me.

I don't know. I'm torn with this review. I came here with some friends on a Friday evening. They were quite crowded but we had a reservation and didn't have to wait too long to be seated. To start I had a pear margarita. It was very good. When I ordered it again, it tasted a little different. Other drinks at my table were also ordered, but I don't recall what they were. For an appetizer my boyfriend and I had Maduro Relleno con Camarones. This was Sweet Plantain stuffed with Shrimp in Coconut Creole Sauce topped with Tropical Cheese. This was delicious! However, this was the only food item that was delicious for the evening. I ordered the Salmon con Salsa de Mango. It had very basic flavor. The menu stated the salmon was chipotle glazed...but I did not get any chipotle flavors at all. When I ordered my Salmon our waiter asked me if I was sure I didn't want the cod special. No I don't want it. If I wanted the cod special, I would've ordered it. This dish also cost more than the salmon dish, so I believe he was trying upsell me. My boyfriend had Chuletas Cubanos. His pork was completely flavorless. There wasn't any type of seasoning at all. The chorizo was also over cooked. Other food that was ordered was the short rib special, a steak dish, some type of pulled pork and something else that I don't recall. For dessert I had regular fried ice cream and my boyfriend had the candy cane fried ice cream special. Mine was okay and he didn't like is. He described it as eating a bowl of toothpaste. Patron espresso martini was decent. Service was okay. Our waiter handled our party of 6 efficiently. Food was just eh/average. One and done for us.

Man do I need to get back on the review wagon. I think I wrote up only one in all of June and that was the beginning of the month! I've been to plenty of places since then and a few before, like Maria's in Nesconset (picture stamp date is late April...yikes!). But some good things deserve a little time to be reviewed like this Mexican food spot that I visited back in Spring with my wife. Now we had passed Maria's a few times and saw the small-looking setup from the road, though Maria's has a decent amount of space inside as well as a nice little exterior area. That day I remember it was quite warm for April, but the sun was setting and the chills were underway so we ate inside right in a small corner where somehow the wall angled into nothing (which honestly my wife loved). The rest of the ambiance was festive and fun creating a casual yet still a little classy eating experience. Speaking of eating, Maria's menu was of respectable size with plenty of Mexican and Latin favorites. But with favorites such as these, there are always good drinks to be had and so my wife and I ordered a frozen strawberry margarita and a pineapple mojito. Yum! Chips and salsa donned the table from our mostly attentive waiter and then it was finally ordering time. Starting with an app (which we probably didn't need) I went for the tamales as my wife was not sure she had ever had them (so we needed to change that!). Stuffed with beef and topped with avocado, red chili sauce, and queso fresco, these tamales were quite tasty (even if I felt like there probably should've been one or two more to match the price). For dinner, there were a lot of great-sounding authentic meals, but my wife and I both did the combo thing and got plates that came with a few different items. My plate was combo #9 (not mambo #5, sorry Lou Bega) which consisted of a beef taco, chicken enchilada, and chili relleno. The lady had combo #1 (chicken taco, beef burrito, cheese enchilada) and for both of us we enjoyed what we ate. I'll say the taco got a little soggy towards the end and the rice and beans were pretty basic, but as a whole the flavors hit (love me some chili relleno). Overall, Maria's was a quality spot for some good ol' Mexican/Latin cuisine. Often I'm just looking for something quick and easy like tacos (so Right Coast's taco truck is my go-to for this type of grub), but if I'm looking for more of a full and festive meal, then I know Maria's will be my option. And with that, we move one step closer to writing a review for some where a little more recently-visited.

You must visit Maria's! The fun upbeat vibe is great! They have the best margarita's I had a spicy cranberry margarita that was delicious. We started with the plantain special that had shrimp, cheese and coconut which was to die for! The seafood enchilada comes with 2 fishes, check to make sure you like them. We asked for only shrimp. The mole sauce was incredible with the perfect amount of heat. The tacos el carbon were sheer perfection. This is one of my favorite restaurants be side it us always consistently so delicious! The staff are super friendly and helpful! Go go go!

Bon G and I have been wanting to visit Maria's and last night we trekked to Nesconset and found this Gem, in the flesh! If you werent looking for this place without GPS you probably wouldnt find it. Its a hidden world that transports you to a different place, one thats tranquil, beautiful and Spanish! They have a wonderful outdoor area but we chose to dine indoors as it was getting dark. We were seated immediately in the dining room and visited by our wonderful server Ivan. We had many questions and he was cordial and answered them all. We started with the Maria's Special Sangria... a large size pitcher filled with wine, liquors and all kinds of ripe delish fruits... was wonderful and packed a punch! Ivan told us they had a Mussels special which we ordered...was the BEST Mussels we have had in a very long time...Large meaty mussels in a fantastic garlic based sauce that we slurped up till it was all gone. Also got fantastic Quesadilla Cubano; awesome fresh Lechon packed segments filled with juicy shredded pork...So Good! We were full by now but had to try a couple of mains...Bon had the Steak Fajita and I had the Skirt Steak...both delish and prepared to order. Took home enough leftovers for another meal. We were too full for dessert but we lefft happy and rareing to bring friends to dine here with us and enjoy the food, atomosphere and great service proferred by Ivan and the rest of the staff....We will return soon!!!

Awesome, fresh food. Delicious sangria. Celebrated my husband's birthday and they sang "Happy Birthday". We were a party of 12 and everyone ordered something different and everyone was very pleased with their choices. They had a children's menu so my two grandsons were happy! Don't fill up on the chips or you won't be able to finish your meal! read more

Called to make a reservation for 10 people and there was no hesitation to host us! Our table was ready on arrival and it was beautiful inside! Service was excellent, food was delicious and portions were generous. Drinks were also great and they had live music that was fun and interactive. The bill was affordable and everyone had a great night and left satisfied. We will be back! read more

Gave this restaurant a second visit as I like to give the benefit of the doubt. With that said, overall the place is nice, clean, good service, but the food (very bland) and drinks (not mixed correctly), were definitely lacking again and was very disappointed. I suggested going here for lunch with friends today. We have been here many times before. I've had the taco salad many times in the past and always enjoyed it. Today I sent it back it wasn't even a salad. It was ground beef with a few tomato slices, dollop of sour cream with some wilted lettuce underneath. Unfortunately it was so unappealing I sent it back, our server offered to remake it I declined. I don't understand how that could come out of the kitchen and be served. If the ingredients weren't available I would have ordered something different. read more

Food was killer ! 5/5 stars on the food. The service was trying their best- the place was BOOMING and it was just a normal day/ dinner... it was packed. We got a tiny little table in the corner and listened to a crying baby (less than an arm's length away) the whole time BUT I'd still say my experience was not ruined by any of that... the food was really great read more

This is an excellent restaurant for Mexican food. The service is knowledgeable, fast, and attentive. The food is very good. Don't let the exterior fool you, there is a great restaurant on the inside. Maria's has gone through a renovation.. a beautiful one at that. There's now outdoor seating( feels like you're dining in a tropical paradise) Each dining area is separated by a plexiglass partition. There's a constant flow of servers.. Replenishing the water glasses, chips, dip, etc. We ordered our drinks. Appetizers, and our meal All prepared and delivered in a timely fashion The salmon fajitas were so delicious.. I ate them solo, although they came with tortillas, slaw, rice n beans. There were enough of us to share and pass around. The chicken Milanesa was hearty and flavorful. We also had empanadas, steak burritos.. and the pumpkin fried ice cream.. yum.. Maria n Chana are the ultimate host.. Can't wait to go back! read more

We love Maria's! We have been to the restaurant a few times as well as have gotten taken out. We love the outdoor seating area and the specials that change weekly. A pretty solid place from the little that I ate. Long wait. Loooong wait- more time spent outside than what was quoted. The inside isn't small, but it's still a tight squeeze and maneuverability is limited. Vegetarian quesadilla: this thing was really good. Filled with cheese and seasoned mushrooms, the appetizer was filling and just salty enough. Not overwhelming. They include the usual guacamole and sour cream. Service was pleasant. No doubt the best place to go to if you want awesome Mexican/Latin food. We have been there during lunch and dinner. Tried Maria's during restaurant week with a couple of friends on a Thursday. We arrived around 6:30 and it was busy. We had to wait about 25 minutes to sit. As others mentioned, parking is not the best especially when it's packed and other neighboring businesses are still open. As I walked in, I noticed the place was a bit small but cozy. They had a mariachi guitarist for entertainment, singing to the tables. As an appetizer, I ordered a shrimp salad and for dinner I had the Pollo al la Criolla which is chicken sautéed in a Latin Creole Sauce. Sweet plantains and Spanish rice were the sides that were paired with the chicken. Everything was good. As a dessert, I tried to order the churros but they ran out but I was able to order fried pumpkin ice cream instead. I definitely would like to come back and try some of their other dishes. read more

Right off the bat my recommendation is to always have at least one of the seasonal specials, drinks or appetizers or entrees. Can't go wrong with fresh guacamole and chips while you peruse the menu. There are margaritas, beers and wine choices. I usually go for a seafood dish and my friends usually have one of the enchilada combo specials. The skirt steak is also reliable. Their flavors are reliable and tasty every time so make a reservation in advance read more

Everything was very good. Food was delicious with a nice presentation. Ambiance was nice and it feels like an upscale mexican restaurant. Prices were fair. The only criticism is like most places, they are short on staff so the service could have been better. The location is small but cozy. The menu is creative. The food is tasty. Our server did a great job. However, the owner walked around to each table greeting the patrons and asking if everything was ok. She conspicuously ignored my husband and I. She walked by our table and avoided making eye contact with us. We are a black family. It was obvious to us the message she was trying to convey by ignoring us. I reluctantly came here last night night as I did not have great past experiences the 2 times I came here. I just intened on having drinks however we went for some food as we were hungry. I have to say the service and food seemed much improved. The fajitas were excellent as were the black bean soup and the tortilla chicken soup. The food was great along with the decor and lighting, the indoor seating was setup well with privacy glass splitting the tables. The drinks were made well although one was stronger than the other but that was ok. The only reason i gave them a 4/5 was because the wait was 30 mins longer than what we were told and the menu was not very exciting even though it was a big menu and they did have daily specials which was nice a touch. We did not get dessert since we were so full from the the food. They gave a lot of food and it is reasonably priced read more

I have not had the pleasure of dining in at Maria's but i've ordered takeout on multiple occasions. The food is phenomenal, the seafood paella is some of the best I have had and the portions are... let's say shareable for most. I am giving 4 stars because although the food is typically great, it is inconsistent. Beautiful touch having Carlos Santana's Maria Maria as the hold tone when calling in, I appreciated witnessing that. read more

Went to Maria's in Nesconset for lunch based on someone's recommendation and it was amazing. The outdoor area was really nice, kinda felt like I was sitting in a rainforest. We started with the papa rellena, which is a potato ball stuffed with beef (sorry no picture) they were really good and they were huge. I ordered combo number 9 which is a beef taco, chicken enchilada, and Chili Relleno and it came with a side of rice and beans. After the appetizer and the complimartary chips and salsa I was pretty full so I just had a little bite of everything and it was so good. The rice and beans were honestly the best I've had in a while. A lot of the times when you go out the rice and beans are bland but these were really well seasoned. This is one of my favorite restaurants ever. The atmosphere from the music to the decor is beautiful and the food is authentic Latin cuisine. The service is perfect and all the staff are friendly and very knowledgeable with the specials. They serve delicious warm tortilla chips with salsa right when you sit down. The drinks are GREAT as well. I highly recommend the cactus pear margarita. My boyfriend and I had our very first date here and yesterday we celebrated our anniversary there. It is our little tradition and I am very pleased with our dining choice! The staff is wonderful, from the bartenders to the servers. The bathrooms are immaculate. The food is out of this world. No matter what I order I make sure I get a side of their sweet plantains. For dessert I highly suggest the fried ice cream. 5 stars all the way. read more

Went to this restaurant on a Friday night and was worried there would be a wait but wasn't too bad! Quick service. I would say the salsa is sub par compared to other places but food was delicious! They were very accommodating to any specific requests I had. I got a chicken chimichanga with fajita veggies which was devious! My friend got a combo platter which was also great. Very satisfying! We were too full for desert but the menu had a lot of options. Would definitely go back again! read more

Ordered 2 combo plates. And beers. And wife got churro sundae for dessert. The not so good.... Burritos come with sauce (wet) which was just the enchilada sauce so if you also ordered an enchilada you basically got 2, enchiladas come completely overwhelmed by cheese (not the best cheese), beans are black (good) and too salty (not good), rice is bland and undercooked, taco tortillas are from a bag and a little stale, and the salsa is weak and runny and warm which is super weird. The good... Tortilla chips are salty and warm goodness, chicken was tasty and seasoned, guacamole taco was awesome and fresh and light, enchilada sauce was good, the combination section was a good deal and you can customize any 3 items for $15.95. And Mexican beer. Yummy. Dessert menu looked tasty but my dessert is an extra bowl of chips! Duh. And they have a spicier salsa available if you ask. Service was okay, and there was no wait on a Monday night. Probably good for larger parties as they have the space and Margheritas. They have a bar and pitchers of sangria too. I'd come back and try the fancier items next. read more

My husband & I have been regulars for years, today after we finished lunch and were paying the bill a cockroach walked across the table. We called over the waiter and pointed out the unwelcome visitor (my husband trapped it with his glass). Our server called the owner who was not in the establishment at the time, and after a lengthy conversation we were told " This never happened before" no offer for even a comped beverage!
