The atmosphere of the restaurant is decidedly Latin, with colorful murals and a floral garden entrance. It is mid October and it is still possible to dine al fresco thanks to the heaters scattered about the outside eating area. Our group of seven was seated at a large round table making dinner conversation enjoyable. The piped in music acted as a lovely sottofondo to the evening and did not overwhelm the speakers at the table. We were promptly seated at the hour of our reservation. Our waiter took our drink orders promptly. Upon returning with the drinks, he explained the specials of the day. I went with his recommendation. The table ordered coconut encrusted shrimp and a guacamole dip as appetizers. Since my entree included shrimp, I passed on the shrimp. The guacamole dip was very good. As an entree, I ordered the fish special that included: Cod, calamari, scallops, and shrimp lightly awash in a fish sauce. The sauce added an extra dimension to the fish. The cod was flavorful and juicy, the scallops were savory, and the shrimp delicious. The calamari were scattered about and added texture to each bite. In short: this entree was delicious! The entree hit the spot and I passed on my own dessert, however, I did taste my wife's pumpkin spice fried gelato. It was delicious as well. The Takeaways: 1. Good portion to cost balance. 2. Fantastic service. 3. Excellent food. 4. Make sure to make a reservation. 5. NOTE: parking is EXTREMELY limited. Final thoughts... This is definitely a place to which I shall return! read more

We've been wanting to come here for months after passing it a bunch of times it looked like such a nice little place to dine. We finally got the opportunity to come in for an early dinner today. Beautiful outdoor seating section where you're surrounded by nice landscaping & bistro lights. Probably 7-8 tables. -Steak Burrito: 4/5, very good Burrito. The meat was cooked perfectly, the thing was massive and filled with plenty of toppings. The chips it's served with we're very good as well. -Chicken Fajitas: 4/5, perfectly cooked chicken with a very nice ratio of meat to fillers. -Chipotle Mango Margarita: 2.5/5, good not great. Not very strong at all or flavorful. -Tropical Margarita: 1/5, in one word...sucked. Tasted like pineapple juice with a salted rim. Overall I think 3.5 stars is more appropriate than a 4. There was a lot of give and take here. The food was good but the drinks sucked. The service was sloOoOow but the staff were very friendly. The prices were definitely higher than expected too. $17+ for a Burrito is borderline overkill in my book BUT it was good so...I'll be back for sure but not going to be a place I frequent often. read more

Got the Pollo Champiñon al Ajillo. The sauce tasted pretty decent.. but the chicken itself was HORRIBLE. The worst tasting chicken I have ever gotten from a restaurant. It literally tasted like left over turkey that had been reheated at least twice before. Ever get a turkey and gravy dish at a crappy diner? This tasted just like dried, old highway diner turkey. The string beans that came with it were completely inedible as well. Overcooked and mushy is an understatement. These string beans were brownish/dark green, overcooked mush- looked and tasted like canned string beans-absolutely disgusting. I would be embarrassed serving food that looked or tasted this way to friends at home- I have no idea how a business that claims to be a "Long Island Top Restaurant" could ever attempt to serve and sell that slop. The chicken quesadilla was alright.. the chicken inside didn't taste nearly as bad as the chicken entre. It was drier than I would have liked though. The chips were pretty good. Came here for the first time after wanting to try for forever! It was a Friday night so busy but got two seats at the bar within 10 minutes. Had margaritas - one regular and one frozen strawberry. Delicious. I decided to try their half strawberry daiquiri half piña colada. Wasn't a fan of the daiquiri side but the piña colada was delicious. A leveled up Mexican experience!! The restaurant was packed, but the lighting was very dimmed and our table still felt like a private space with a divider. Starting with the Pear Margarita (I believe it was seasonal), it was one of the best margaritas I've had. The Calamari caught us by surprise, since it was very different from what we're used to. It had fried plantains in it, and they matched very well. The portion sizes were VERY big, I was almost full after the complimentary Chips & Salsa and the Calamari. Each time we visit, the service is painfully slow (especially drinks) which takes away any enjoyment of this place. Staff avoids eye contact when they pass your table so it's hard to get anyone's attention. Food is on par with any other restaurant like Maria's so there are lots of other options. read more

Maria's has been a long-standing business in the Nesconset community, but I rarely found my way there as a patron myself. Wound up meeting up with a couple friends for lunch and realized what I've been missing. Service, especially for lunch where a quick turnaround is a must, was excellent. The staff was friendly, attentive, and precise with our orders. The food was outstanding. In the photo is a combo meal, with a cheese burrito, chicken enchilada, a beef burrito. The house margarita rivals other restaurants' top shelf margaritas and are generously proportioned. If you have anywhere to go or anything to do afterward, I'd highly recommend having no more than one or two at the max. read more

I had an Unbelievable dinner on Valentine's Day! From the service, to the decor, to the food... everything was increible! We started off at the bar with a few drinks. I had the valentines day special which was a strawberry Cosmo. It was very good but a little sweet for my taste. When we sat at our table, I ordered the Pear Margarita which was fantastic! I'm so disappointed in this place recently! My husband and I have been coming here 1-2 times a year for the last 7 years.. we had our first date here! The service is unbelievably slow. We came with a party of 4 with a reservation and still waited 45 minutes. After we were finally seated, we waited another 20 to see a waiter. Slow service has been an issue for the last 2-3 years but we were always able to overlook it because we loved the food so much, however, the food was awful during our last visit. I have friends that live close to Maria's and they've been raving about this place. We're talking, drinking some great Sangria. So far so good. My buddies wife said lets order some appetizers. Two orders of Coconut shrimp come to us. Now, I'm used to eating Coconut Shrimp at Bahama Breeze on Fridays. The shrimp were insane! Big, plumpy things that were cooked perfectly. Very very tasty. Now I'm starting to get full. Both my buddies ordered the skirt steak. I had to order my goto, Ropa Vieja. The RV? Off the chain! This dish was made perfectly, it came with rice & black beans as well as fried plantains. Have I never reviewed Maria's?! I live in the area and Maria's has been my go-to for authentic Mexican cuisine for years. The service is always nice, the drinks are delicious (and more importantly, strong) and the food is consistently fresh. (Like seriously, even the chips are freshly made.) My go-tos are always a glass of sangria, ceviche, and enchiladas. The sangria always packs a punch with large pieces of fruit to fish out later. The ceviche is fresh and tangy packed in its own juices, and the enchiladas are bangin'. With that being said, I never stick to my go-tos at Maria and try other dishes on the menu and I have to say, I've never been disappointed in any of my choices. I was going to be close by this evening and wanted to make sure I had a decent seat so wanted to make a reservation. I called and was told they don't take a reservation for 2 people. Loved the food and the beautiful outdoor seating area. They have tables with umbrellas and beautiful plants around. I didn't see the indoor dining area. The staff was friendly & accommodating. Tbh I was scared about being rushed out as a previous reviewer mentioned earlier in the day but they didn't give us an issue. We got our food in 20 minutes and finished before the 2 hour limit so maybe they rush people when they are super busy? I'm really not sure because my experience was different. Food: My uncle was raving about how much he loved the food. I got the chimichangas (one steak, one chicken, they are accommodating to order modifications). The others got steak fajitas, tacos al carbon, a 3 taco combo (chicken, beef, bean), and a combo with a beef taco, chicken enchilada, and Chile relleno. Everyone liked their food. We agreed that it was fresh and light. The portions are just enough to not feel like you have to roll yourself home. The one thing I found myself wanting more of though was spice. I asked for hot sauce and it was smokey but not really spicy. The salsa served beforehand was runny & I wasn't a fan. The chips were crisp & tasty. Safety: The outdoor tables are spaced out and the hostess/waitresses ask us to wear our mask when leaving the table. All the waitresses had their masks on properly. The one thing my mom did notice though is that some of the indoor dining customers didn't put their masks back on when going to the bathroom. That's where the staff should speak up. It's been nearly three years since I went to Maria's. My husband and I decided to check in on our way home from the dentist on a Tuesday evening. The restaurant was quiet. We sat at the bar and was served chips and salsa. Nothing has changed with the salsa, still not good. Where on Long Island can I get a delicious homemade salsa? Still looking!!! The margaritas and fresh fruit martinis are still outstanding as was the meals we ordered. Maria's uses only fresh quality ingredients and hires skilled chefs. Never had a meal that we didn't enjoy. I do need to mention that the bartender was Not attentive. She was polite and sweet but seriously lacked customer service. We had to ask for menus and never bothered to ask how our meals were or if we needed anything. Hopefully things will be improved by our next visit. TIP: Be careful parking.
