Tried this for the first time today. The place looks really pretty and well decorated with a Mexican feel. We've visited Mexico but are not Mexican--we are Haitian. Here's the Scoop: This restaurant opened over a year ago. It use to a Hero Time Deli. I miss Hero Time and the delicious sandwiches they use to make. So now that Viva Mexico has this spot my honey and I decided to give it a go. To our surprise the food was very delicious! Seasoned well and nice portions. A little pricey but the Menu has great choices and service is friendly, efficient and quick. Beautifully decorated and very cozy. They are setting up outdoor seating as well. I think they will do well in this location. Check them out if you're ever in the Central Islip area and feel like some good Mexican cuisine. read more

Yuckkkkkk! I had called to place an order for pick up and there was definitely a bad language barrier. I ordered a cheese quesadilla and said no meat. I get there to pick it up, I again reiterate no meat. I get to my car, make sure there is no meat and there's chicken. I go back in and explain I wanted no meat, chicken included. At this point, if I had received a good quesadilla I could look past all of this. I get the quesadilla and it was disgusting, boarder line inedible. I've literally never had a quesadilla that gross. There was one type of cheese (not even sure what it was, not the normal Mexican blend). The cheese was chewy, gross, and just low quality cheese. The most authentic restaurant I've tried so far, real Mexican food absolutely delicious tacos, tostadas are amazing, the pork and pineapple to die for!! They know what they're doing. The wait was way too long (they forgot to start making our order until we finally got tired and went to ask about it). They then messed up two out of our five orders (forgot the guacamole we requested as well as the rice and beans that we asked for one of the orders). The food we did receive was average in taste. We ordered tacos, burritos, and chicken enchiladas verdes, and especially for the hassle it took to get our food, nothing was as good as we had expected. I came in here for lunch after reading decent reviews and found a very pleasant surprise. As I was going to take-out but ordered in, I decided to order the guacamole while I sat at the bar to wait for my food. The guacamole was not only one of the most fresh I've had, but it was delicious and very different, packed with an abundance of bright green, large chunks of fresh cilantro. Decided it give it a try and we won't be back. The menu seemed promising but really just a let down. The taco meat was well seasoned but the tacos all came on generic cold tortillas. Veggie burrito contained iceberg lettuce, avocado , little bits of cilantro, and a ton of unflavored rice. Topped with a half melted piece of provolone cheese. No sauce, super dry and boring. This rating is solely for the food. If you don't mind rude or unenthusiastic waitresses like me, then you'll enjoy your food experience here. I first found this spot a few weeks ago passing by while I was on my way home. I had been searching for a good taco spot nearby. This place has the closest to authentic Mexican taste I've been looking for. Especially their lengua( cow tongue) tacos. Which is comparable to the south Texas breakfast style Barbacoa tacos. I love that they use fresh veggies and ingredients, and always tortillas de maíz, unlike competitors who use flour. That isn't authentic guys. Their chicken quesadilla as well as carne and pollo guisado tacos are the best. Nom nom nom. As for their guacamole, you better order a serving of avocados on the side. It comes out mostly saucy and lacks the avocado. They make really good salsa verde, and I think it's either a red habanero or chipotle sauce. Idk which, but it's good. There's 1 waitress there who's real charismatic and cool, but I've already experienced 2 who were annoying and rude, especially due to my lack of Spanish speaking. I'm not that bad though. I found this place quite by accident and what a great find it is! I was with my 13 yr old son and we decided to stop in for dinner. I have lived in Mexico for many years and love authentic Mexican cuisine. My son ordered chicken nachos. He loved them he cleaned his plate. It was loaded with chips, chicken, guacamole and beans and queso fresco and crema fresca. I ordered the tostada de tinga and it was delicious! loaded with meat and cream and cheese. A hidden gem.. This place is awesome. It's hard to find good and authentic Mexican food in Long Island. I'm Mexican and I'm used to Mexican food not that Americanized shit they have around here. I have passed this place a million times. I was in the mood for tacos so I figured, "why not finally try it out." I tried to look up their menu but they don't have a site. I called my order in--shrimp tacos and a side of rice and beans--no price was mentioned, this order can't possibly be more than $14-$15, it's just tacos. When I picked it up, I was charged $20 for three small tacos and rice and beans. I wasn't aiming to pay $20 for lunch let alone for some tacos that's weren't even great. I really wanted to like this place but I don't think I'll be back for a while. read more

My husband and I love this little place! The food is always of good quality, the service good, and we love the quaint atmosphere. We recommend the Sope as a starter, especially the one with chorizo on it, mmmmm. Tacos of various meats were tasty, and I personally loved the chicken quesadilla. Def a good place for lunch or dinner. Update: Came back here and tried the steak burrito, mmmmm que delisioso!! Def recommend it. The guacamole here is also yummy. Very interesting place. From the outside it looks like a bar. But were it not for a brisk lunch time crowd today, I would have kept walking. I ordered the taco trio and the waitress was nice enough to make sure she got my order right. I had the steak, pork and sausage. I have to say, good size portions and the meats were delicious. I really liked the pork especially. I also ordered a cuban sandwhich to go. It was okay...not quite the usual cuban but still good. I ordered a water and they gave me a bottle of poland springs. I saw this on a few other tables as well so I didn't make a big deal of it. I wish I had the option of regular water or bottled water. Just don't like this tactic. Anyway, the food is good and service is quick. They have a spanish version of MTV playing on a tv on the wall that was a little louder than normal but then again, this is a bar. What a cute place! I thought the entrées were a bit pricey, but to be fair I'm from the Bronx, so I don't know if $20+ is normal for this area. I had three tongue tacos for $10, and they were excellent. Great flavor, and no skimping on the filling. Tortillas were fresh, as were the onions and cilantro. It appears to be a new location, whimsically decorated and very clean. Even though it wasn't particularly busy when I was there, the staff had a very fast-paced work ethic, which meant I got my food very quickly. They were also super polite, so I tipped generously. I could see how someone might run into a little bit of trouble if they didn't speak fluent Spanish like I do, but pointing to items in the menu should work! I was a little bummed that they were already out of tamales at 3:30 on a Saturday, especially since that probably means they are really good! I'll be back to try them. Also, the environment is described as loud, but I didn't think it was too loud. Last weekend, I went into a place that was so loud that I had to leave before I could even be seated. At this place, you can speak in a normal tone to your partner/the servers. I would say great for a party, or a family. (if you can afford the pricing). Altogether a good experience. read more

Well let's start with they only got 1 star because zero stars weren't an option. Decided to give this place a try and it certainly disappointed. Everything is way too expensive and I've been to top quality authentic Mexican restaurants. Spare yourselves and don't order the sopes or the tostadas because they suck. I love Viva Mexico, I have been a customer for years. I recently moved to the west coast, my husband and I drove cross country, We visited a few Mexican restaurants on the road, specially since I am a michelada fan... No restaurants could beat Viva Mexico's micheladas They are the best. They have very delicious food, the sopes and chilaquiles are my favorites.  Thank you Don José for always making us feel at home. It's always hard to find good Mexican on the Island, so we were pleased to stumble upon Viva Mexico last night. For starters, the guacamole was fresh, bright and chock-full of cilantro. The chicken tacos -- served in a corn tortilla -- were authentic and fresh. Everything paired well with the tasty (and strong) sangria. While the food was certainly fresh and authentic, I was even more impressed by our server. There really is nothing positive I can think to say about this place. The menu is a clear indicator of the type of place this is. They have apps priced the same as most of their entrees. Never have I been to a restaurant (of this particular cuisine), that has appetizers priced as much as the entrees. The mole sauce was equivalent to eating chocolate syrup -- granted it is chocolate containing, but that was pure chocolate sauce. Bro, they don't even have desert on the menu, I asked and she gave me three options, she said she had strawberry with bread and whipped cream, I maybe thought it was a small cake, but it was fucking green yogurt and two strawberries, and it was ass.
