My second time at Swell Taco (I absolutely live for the good foodie finds in Babylon Village) was, for lack of a better word, *swell.* (I just had to do it, hehe.) We sat in their insulated outdoor area amidst string lights and beachy vibes, and every meal starts out with their addicting tortilla chips and salsa verde. (Pro-tip -- save some of this green salsa to have with whatever you order!) We tried their chicken flautas appetizer, and if you are a fan of all that is cheesy and crispy, you will definitely enjoy this one. My favorite item on the menu was next -- the Crunch and Munch ground beef taco -- this literally was an elevated version of Taco Bell's cheesy Gordita crunch, and it made me super happy. We also shared their shredded beef burrito (think barbacoa), which was a Saturday special, but honestly, any of their burritos would be worthwhile. (I dare say that the burritos also feel kind of light? They are not over-the-top in the best way possible!) If you're looking for a casual taco spot after a day at Robert Moses or Overlook Beach (or any day, really), definitely check this place out -- you will fall in love after the first flavorful bite. read more

Went last night, packed for Taco Tuesday obviously but we only waited maybe five mins for a table. Server was super friendly and took our orders asap since we were in a rush. Drinks and food all came out fast! Loaded nachos, buffalo chicken quesadillas, and bunch of different tacos. They give complimentary chips and salsa verde ( which my husband said was so delicious ), but I definitely recommend the loaded nachos. Huge portion too. One of my favorite spots that I'm a regular at. I come here all the time, it's that good! A cute establishment with beachy, surfer vibes. Super affordable as well. They give you free chips and green salsa and their salsa is addictive! I always get the cheese quesadilla which is my favorite from any restaurant. A great addition to Babylon village! read more

UPDATE: Changing from 2 stars to 4 :) I have had quite a few positive experiences since. I have not found meat in my food since! still a little scarred though... used to be cool and fun in 2016, but it is disappointing now. Im a vegetarian and often would order a cheese quesadilla. there have been multiple issues where i have found meat in the quesadilla. it's really upsetting as a vegetarian for 10+ years to spit out food that surprises you with meat. it's impossible to get through to anyone on the phone. just really upsetting as it used to be a favorite read more

First I want to say that the food and drinks were excellent! Our server was wonderful! My problem was my friends were celebrating 70th Birthday with me. They called snd made the reservation and asked if they could bring a cake. they were never told there was a cutting fee. we told the waiter we would cut it ourselves and we did. but the manger said he had to charge us the fee anyway. This is my absolute favorite taco place on the island. I used to go here every Tuesday for taco Tuesday and it didn't matter how long the wait was, I was waiting the wait because I knew it was so worth it. The place has such a chill vibe and you just never feel stressed when you're there. Good people, incredible food and chill vibe, especially after a day roasting on the beach with a burning sunburn. The margaritas are to die for, highly recommend! We move to Florida a few years ago and every time I come home to visit, swell is a MUST on my "favorites" list of places I need to go while I am home. So the food is excellent. The green sauce they give with the tortilla chips is fantastic. The issue I have is with the service. It always seems like they are kinda doing you a favor. No one is ever rude or disrespectful. They are nice, but the vibe I always get is they just don't really care. It's hard to explain. The service is always slow. Today it was kinda extra slow and I placed an order to go as well. When I got home the order was completely wrong. I keep going back and I really do not know why. Some maybe because the food is excellent. The other is because my daughter loves it. I third reason maybe because I like to patronize local establishments. Anyhow that is my review. Eh. Eh is still my feeling the next day about these tacos. Who doesn't enjoy tacos? I've been to various taco places and Swell Taco has been on my radar for quite some time. When co-workers were ordering for lunch, i hopped on that bandwagon. After a quick glance of the menu, I decided on shrimp tacos. It was beer battered shrimp with spicy slaw on a corn tortilla. It wasn't terrible...but it wasn't amazing either. It needed something....like lime or avocado....or something. I also ordered a side of guacamole...which was forgotten about when our order was picked up. Didn't realize until we returned to the office. When I called, I spoke to Carly, who said they an either take my name for next time, or I could come back and get it. Totally worth the hype! My husband and I came here for lunch. We sat at the bar and they were really attentive. They brought out chips & salsa which were great and were ordered a steak quesadilla to start. It was flavored awesome and tasted SO good! For lunch I had ordered 4 diff tacos (LOL) couldn't decide. There was an issue with our order not being put in which caused a delay, we had no problem with it at all as our waiter was apologetic and accommodating in getting our food to us quicker! They took the extra step to give us some soft tacos and the whole bill on the house which was SO kind! This is cool American surfer theme trendy taco place. Has fantastic margaritas, the best around. It can be crowded because it is a very popular local and out of towner spot. They do take out and catering. They have an informal bar, more of a counter thst you can enjoy a margarita while waiting for your table. They usually have a nice selection of hot sauce but are temporarily using individual quality hot sauce packets. The menu is actually pretty reasonably priced. read more

I would say the food is a like a 6 or 7 out of a 10 but the drinks are ehhh like a 4 out of 10. The place itself has a cool vibe and the service is typically good. The prices are decent as well. We were seated immediately, and there was a QR code on the table to scan for the menu. We got chips with guacamole, and the guacamole was AMAZING, very fresh tasting. Their special crispy chicken taco, steak specialty taco, and pork nachos are really where it's at, don't really care about any of the other stuff at this way too over-hyped spot but it's certainly better than its newer Patchogue counterpart. My dad has taken me to swell taco since I was a kid many many years ago when it was still a tiny hole in the wall. They used to have a host stand in the hallway of the building before you stepped foot in the restaurant with like 6 tables and the bar. I'm glad they've gotten big, they're always busy now. It does make it quite hard to snag a table, even at 5pm on a Wednesday night, we must've waited a little over an hour for a table. They have a tiny waiting area, so most of the time you're stuck waiting outside the restaurant since it gets cramped very fast inside. It feels like they're outgrowing this restaurant. They really have the chill surfer/skater vibe down inside the restaurant. The food is delicious, and I enjoy the specials they have as well as $5 loaded nachos after a certain time. Tonight they had shredded beef birria tacos with a potato soup that was very good. The 3 amigos are always a classic to get. There was a lot of hype behind this spot from some friends, was finally able to try it. Great margaritas, tasty guac, delicious flautas and pretty good tacos. Started with a round of house margaritas, large guac and chicken flautas. Very good all around. Everything was fresh and delicious. I ordered a Carne asada, carnitas, Crunch and Munch which is a ground beef tacos with a soft and hard shell. Overall the tacos were good. Fresh and tasty. Unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype. Maybe I've been spoiled but I've had really great tacos from a lot of places. These are more traditional tacos instead of something like Dirty Taco and Tequila that has more of a modern fusion to it.
