    Bourbon chicken cheese fries

I've been coming here for years and I am highly disappointed in the service. I understand due to Covid and inflation that prices are going up however after checking my bag before leaving. I noticed that the bourbon chicken was extremely dry and I asked for just a little sauce on top of the chicken. She told me that she put a lot already and that I would be $.75 extra for the sauce.

Yea, not quite sure where to put this place. It's a Mexican restaurant run by Chinese in an American Chinese take-out sort of fashion. It's cheap and, when my coworkers suggested we order from here, I did not know what to expect. I got the bourbon chicken over rice, which was under $4 delivered to me. It wasn't great. The bourbon chicken just tasted salty with no real discernible flavor. The rice underneath it was soggy and also quite salty. The rice was like the kind of rice that is made from a box or purchased frozen and just reheated. The guacamole was a weird concoction of guac, salsa, and sour cream resulting in a sort of liquidy sauce that tasted nothing of guacamole. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't good. I used some of it to give the bourbon chicken some flavor. Would I come back here? No. But I guess if you're in the mood for Asianized Americalized Mexican food delivered to your door for less than the cost of a frozen Hungry Man dinner, Island Grill is for you.

Take out date: March 15, 2014 So I got really happy that I found a Mexican place to deliver in Babylon. Green cactus shut down (and they had stopped delivering before that), Swell Taco doesn't deliver, and Del Feugo doesn't deliver. I was pressed for time but really wanted Mexican on Saturday so I found this place, placed an order with them and went about my business until my food was delivered. When the Chinese guy delivered my Mexican food, and I figured out that this was one of those Mexican food cooked by Chinese people sort of a deal (like this place my parent's have in Baldwin) I figured the food might not be all that good. The guac was pretty disgusting, it had a Mayo type of consistency. My suggestion don't get the gauc here. The Nachos were interesting. At first I thought they were good despite the fact that they used the same type of melted cheese that Taco Bell, 711, and the movie theatres use (sorry I like fresh cheese unless I'm at Taco Bell, 711, or the movie theatre). As I munched on more chips though a few of the nacho chips did seem stale to me. My burrito was not wrapped the correct way. I had to keep it in the tinfoil to eat it. It was alright. Chock full of veggies that did seem pretty fresh, they did include rice in it, along with melted movie theatre nacho cheese. I was starving so I wolfed down the food, it was edible or I wouldn't have eaten it but it definitely wasn't one of my favorite meals. I think I'll stick to having to pick up my Mexican food or eat it in restaurant, unless some of Island Grill's competition starts to deliver! *hint hint* swell taco!

Got the regular hard shell tacos tonight. Plenty of meat. It's just the meat has a kind of sweetness to it that I'm not a fan of. Not bad. It might appeal to someone else's palate, just not mine.

Yeah, you read that correctly... not a typo. We were visiting my daughter and her family while on Long Island, but we had to fend for ourselves one evening while they had other plans. We were in the mood for Mexican food, so Yelp to the rescue... and this place popped up. Well, it lived up to all the hype, I'm happy to say. The restaurant is really small... the only negative... and it can get kind of loud, so okay, two negatives, but the food more than made up for it. We had a really good waiter, who was very helpful in helping us place our order. We ordered guacamole, and they made it to our specifications, minus the hot peppers and cilantro. It was FABULOUS and just like I like it.... as good as Besito, by the way !!! I love that place, too. However, what really won me over was this salmon dish in red mole sauce, which I had never had before. It was AMAAAAAAZING. My husband and I SPLIT an order of their Salmon Con Tropical Mole, which was pan-roasted filet of salmon, mole manchamanteles, sweet plantains, papaya pico de gallo. We got some extra plantains and some street corn, and with the gargantuan size of salmon, it was more than enough for the both of us... plus we definitely filled up on chips and salsa (and guac for me). Everything was superb, and I want to say that the salmon was some of the best I've ever had. It was flaky, flavorful and succulent with a very light but appreciated outer crunch. It was soooooooooooo good. So we came away from this place, raving to everyone and anyone who would listen. We talked my daughter and son-in-law into ordering takeout from here as they were worried it was just too small to deal with a bunch of us going, esp. with their young children. Anyway, I'm disappointed to say that their takeout was an entirely different situation. We ordered the "same" salmon dish, and it was like HALF the size. It was the size for one... not that two could split. (If you look at my photo of it, you'll see how large it was... now cut it in half... that's what we got on takeout.) I let my husband have it cuz I was too angry. It had the mole sauce, but I didn't care once I saw it.... plus the salmon itself looked different... it didn't have that nice crunchy shell from pan roasting it. Just so disappointing. The guacamole was still as good as I remember, as was their salsa... but the portion size and quality of preparation... at least with the salmon... was an abomination. I can't speak to what my daughter and son-in-law ordered for entrees because we didn't try it in the restaurant, so we have no point of reference. I feel bad because I raved and raved about their food, and this takeout experience sucked. There should be NO difference. I guess my takeaway would be to recommend that you dine-in there. I'm awarding all FIVE stars for DINE-IN ONLY... and nothing to do with their takeout process. Brave the crowds because they will be there, make a reservation which will help, and eat THERE. I just don't trust the takeout experience with them.

My date had the verde entree and it was really good. She enjoyed it. The chips and salsa on the table were delicious and the they are clearly homemade. Ambiance is "ok". We sat a bit and waited to have our orders taken and sat a bit longer for the check. They were nice, polite, friendly but a little quicker service would have been appreciated. Would I go back? Sure. I'll try something else.

Can't believe I waited this long living in the neighborhood (2+yrs) to finally stroll in and experience what some might say is 'Pura Vida' or !Magnífico¡ Upon first visit, I had to try one of their margaritas and at least one 'Street food' menu item, so opted for their Pear Margarita and Birria Empanadas. Let's say Bravo, Brava and Encore to explore more of their menu. The cocktail was totally on point without being overpowering in any way, very balanced and brightly refreshing. The empanadas were deliciously crispy without being greasy, stuffed and sealed perfectly. Then opted to try their Mashed Potatoes Fries and requested a side of their advertised Shishito slaw seen topping another menu item. I loved the way they created and presented both. The fries were a perfect balance of soft but crisped with the creme drizzle and pickled onions. :* The Shishito slaw was a summery, crunch lightly dressed which has me wanting and requesting more the next visit. They should definitely add that as one of their regular listed sides. My husband had a burger with regular slaw and an old fashioned styled cocktail which he mentioned to be exceptional as well.
