Tried this place when I went out to Lindenhurst on an errand and wanted to eat lunch at a local business. Totally unimpressed. First, the waitstaff are flighty and hard to pin down. It's not true Mexican food, just Americanized tacos and burritos. They make their money on the drinks, but I was driving, so no alcohol. The place has a dingy feel to it. The tables and seating are wooden and uncomfortable. I had the Mahi Mahi tacos, and by the end of the day I had a seafood allergy. I'm assuming the Mahi Mahi was farm raised and the fish were fed some type of food that I'm allergic to. When I got the check I noticed that they added on a .92 cent surcharge, which is illegal in NYS. I want my .92 cents back. I called the restaurant and the person (young male) who answered blew me off when I told them it's illegal to add a surcharge onto the price. I ask for a call back from the manager, but never heard from them. This is not the way to run a business. read more

Swell Taco is definitely a favorite among my friends and colleagues. We have ordered from here a good amount of times and have yet to be disappointed. My go to dish from here is usually their Big Papa Burrito. Marinated Steak, season potatoes, sour cream, beans, salsa and cheese - what is there not to love? Ive ordered it every time and have yet to be disappointed. My friends have tried their San Clemente and Buffalo Soldier and seem to have enjoyed those as well. Ill definitely have to consider giving those a try the next time I order from here. I also noticed that they have a $2 taco tuesday which I'll definitely have to come try. My sister told me a lot about this place and since it's far from where I live, it was hard to give most restaurants around the island a try (especially since I can't drive.) So my sister, her boyfriend and I went to Swell Taco, and it was pretty nice in there! Looks fun even though there are restrictions. Love the decor and the music choice is great. The best part is that the staff there is really friendly! After a short wait, we were seated and they gave us chips with salsa verde. It was so delicious and addicting! Even I have to admit that it was indeed the best salsa verde I have ever tasted! The flavors which are citrusy, salty and a hint of spicy blended well but stayed in the background while the tomatillo stands out! Then I ordered some guacamole with chips and three different tacos. One shredded chicken, carne asada, and carnitas! I'm gonna talk about each one! I started the shredded chicken! I think it's a new favorite for me at the place! I love the taste of it! And it was a surprise because I hardly liked chicken tacos anymore, until now that is! The carne is really good! I got some flavor in the steak which is a tad bit smoky! Went good with the salsa! And finally, carnitas! I LOVE pork tacos, yet I hardly had a pork taco with different toppings on it! The pickled red onion gave the pork away a little, like they were fighting with each other, but it was still delicious!!! Now the guacamole!! Super creamy compared to other places that have guacamole, but great texture, flavors came together and tastes delicious! Ok! So overall, the experience is completely worth it! Definitely with COVID, expect to wait and be patient! I am sure they want to sit you as soon as possible but don't give them a hard time. They have outdoor seating and indoor. If you have a dog, they can come. If you have to wait you're basically on Main Street, take a walk and they will call you when you're table is ready. All staff are wearing masks and some have gloves on. Once you're sat down you are not waiting long at all before you have their complimentary basket of chips and salsa verde- which to me is my favorite salsa verde. We started off with their nachos, then we had a taco salad with shredded chicken and then four of their tacos. The favorite is the crunch & munch taco. They do have an option to get their 3 amigos tacos which I've had before and it's a good option too for your first visit. I've been back one too many times since my first. The menus are on the QR code you scan, to limit the amount touched by guests. They do have hand sanitizer on each table. They are definitely limiting the amount of guests and have plexy glass up where the can! If you don't want to dine in call ahead or you can come in and order out. I'm surprised it's taken me so long to write a review for Swell, but then I realized it's because I have mixed feelings about it. I've been a customer of Swell's since it was a small hole in the wall, but thankfully they've expanded. On the plus side, their food is amazing. I have yet to have a negative experience with their cuisine but if you don't like cilantro, you're going to have a bad time. They put cilantro in and on everything. Their mixed drinks are delicious but a bit on the pricier side for the quality that they give you, but I like to think it's quality over quantity. The only down side that is their staff. I understand that they're usually really busy, but their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. I get it, you're young, it's probably your first gig, and you don't want to be there, but damn, at least fake it till you make it. Also pleaseeee make your crispy chicken tacos a regular menu item. read more

I heard so much about this place when I moved to LI and was excited to try it out even though it always seems packed inside. Maybe it was my selection, but I found their tacos to be mediocre. I selected The 3 Amigos (fish, chicken, beef) and I only liked the fish taco out of the three. The chicken was bland and the bite of the beef taco I had was hard. Sangria was just ok. BUT after my experience on Friday that's it for me. Sadly alot of locals will see this but I don't care, those 2 Karen's are disgusting & really ruined it for me and the group of 8 people as well & I invited everyone there that day. Customer service is #1 (remember that). The kid cleaning our table was taking everything off. The green liquid sauce had tipped over in his hand splashing sauce onto my wife's White dress and waist shirt. He apologized several times and bought napkins. Which is ok, we said no worries, it happens, it was a mistake. My wife asked to speak to the manager. At this point is where Karen 1 (Jacky) was absolutely disgusting. She walked over. Didn't say sorry or even try to act sensible. Just said "he's young and we'll pay for the dry cleaning" making us feel like WE did something wrong with her attitude. At this point she said just bring the Receipt and we'll pay for it. Ok fair enough but she didn't want to give or take any information. How? Why? So if I bring a gas recipe you'll pay for it? ... taking information so everyone knows is how it's done. I essentially had to ask 5 TIMES in order to get them to take information down, along the way getting a disgusting attitude like I did something wrong. On the 3rd try Jacky just walked away! and Tina took over. Speaking English they just didn't get the point of taking information down. Tina said "so you don't think we're going to pay it" like it's not that at alllllll. It's just both parties knowing! - and that's the short story. Once I arrived there, I was quickly seated more than 6 feet apart from another table. They give you free chips and a green sauce that taste good, but paid additional for guac (worth it). Really good burrito. However, really bad service. My friend and I walked in at 5:59 to be seated. The host said, "sorry we're not seating right now." We were confused because we called at 5 pm asking how long the wait was, in which they replied that there was no wait. The other girl comes over and says "Yeah we stopped seating at 6, sorry." We reply, "Well, we walked in before 6, and we called earlier and no one informed us of this". (The restaurant closed at 8, so why stop seating at 6?). Another couple walks in and after speaking to the host, they are seated. My friend and I immediately jump up and go, "hold on, that's no fair. We were here before them and they're being seated??!" The other girl finally goes, "Fine. Let me talk to the manager." She comes back over and says, "You two are the last ones we're seating" in a rude tone. Came here with some friends after a long beach day. there was a weight of about 30 to 45 minutes and food took about 20-30 minutes to come to the table. other than the wait, the food was AMAZING. the vibes in here were awesome, super friendly and warm environment (felt like i was in a tropical destination!) and the portions were huge. even though we were all starving by the time our food came, we all had a hard time finishing our burritos and the nacho platter we ordered. I wasn't sure why my daughter wanted to wait a 1/2 hour to be seated. The Restaurant is quaint but noisy. They do have a bar which was packed on a Tuesday night. They give you complimentary chips & salsa verde. We order the Big Papa. Yes it is a perfect name for the Steak & Potato Burrito. We slip the burrito & tried two tacos. The beef was perfect. Small, kinda hidden gem in Babylon Village...well known locally. Limited but interesting menu with all dishes freshly prepared. Got a bit of a SoCal vibe in the menu and decor. My favorite dish is actually the nachos...not your standard nachos, they taste a bit lighter with a tang to them that can't place but it's in there. Super yummy! Nice selection of beers and cocktails with a couple signature creations. Definitely worth finding if you're looking for a nice new place to try...seating is very limited but parking is ample as it's next to a large lot. read more

Came here for lunch yesterday with friends. The wait was a bit long, but we got to have some yummy drinks while waiting. I got the Surf Wax Rum punch. It started out super yummy, and the pineapple and cinnamon were very forward and delicious. I would make sure to stir the drink well though, because at the end of the drink I was left with something not anywhere close to my tasty first sips. Once seated, the salsa verse that arrives with the chips... I just need a lifetime supply of that. Flavorful, slight spicy, slightly tangy and just so fresh tasting. The chips are good too. Not bland, crispy, a decent level of salt, but not too much that you're wiping some off before eating the chip. We also got flauntas to start. They were ok. Very cheesy, with some chicken. Super crunchy. But the cheese/chicken balance good be tweaked. For lunch I got two tacos... ground beef and carnitas. Both were good. The fixings on the top added lots of flavor and hit on different parts of the palate, the most stand out was the sour brine of the pickled onions. Loved them and their flavor really come through all of the others, in a good way. We've been before and we will be back. If you have extra time (we always seem to wait a while and the place is smallish) and you're looking for a good taco, this place is worth a visit. read more

Ive always been a bit more of a sucker for beachy motifs in bars and restaurants than I care to admit. Call it the California lifestyle I once enjoyed. A lifestyle of surfboards, palm trees and fish tacos is easy to get hooked on. The small walkway theme upon walking up to the hostess station theme continues. A forty five minute wait -- and that sounded a bit generous as I was looking at name after name on the list. Left for Brixon, returning perfectly on time to be seated, the menu was a bit difficult to read as the print is small & the interior first dining room, straight across from the waiting area -- its quite dark there. My order was incorrect and I hesitated as to whether I should ask for the correction to be made or deal with it, I chose tha latter. Chicken instead of my Carnites, grr, but perhaps the Carne Asada would make up for it and it certainly didn't. Chopped up much more than should have been, improper seasoning in my opinion. The Loaded Corona was nothing more than a bad tequila poured warm, into a bottle of Corona, had absolutely nothing special or enjoyable about it. Very good guacamole, very good chips and a mild verde sauce. ** I found the service to be excellent. Very attentive and although the poor lass was swarmed with questions and requests, swamped with tables, both serving, clearing and cleaning. Tasty place for an anglo surfer take on tacos. To be fair, that's most taco places, and at least they're not looking to elevate Mexican cuisine (as if it needs it), and failing to bring the value (like some places in the area, "little kiss" I'm looking at you). Very scene-y, very popular, I came here on a weekday for lunch, near opening, and it was already somewhat crowded. Expect people who complain about ordering chicken tacos when they don't eat meat (hey Sophie T! Good luck to you, girl!) Listen, good for ST, they're doing something right. I sat at the bar and was waited on by the harried manager. Still a very nice fellow and I got good service. Not sure that ST is destination-worthy, I wish they would come north, but there's no good surfing on the north shore. Meh, I like Tommy Tacos anyway (see above re anglos making tacos ... still delicious though) and at least they're not stuffing their burritos with french fries. A coworker and I really wanted soup and decided to order from a local business instead of a food chain like Panera. We placed an order for two large tortilla chicken soups and was given a price of 5.99 each. Her boyfriend picked up the order and we finally get this soup we were craving. When we opened the bag we saw two small containers the size of a small Chinese soup container and 3 strips of fried tortilla. Worked up an appetite after hiking up cold spring harbor trails and have heard so many good things for so long about swell taco so we decided to try it out. Came in this afternoon around 1 o'clock and got seated right away for a table of 3. I ordered the jalapeño margarita as my drink which was absolutely delicious. Perfect amount of spice in it to get me started. For my entree I got a buffalo chicken taco which was absolutely delicious. Great amount of chicken in the taco also. For my entree I got the T Street burrito. The burrito was amazing, super cheesy and meaty. I also got a side of the chipotle cream sauce which accompanied both the taco and the burrito amazingly. The service was also good, no complaints in that area. I will definitely come back to try some more of their menu options. read more

My new favorite taco spot on the island! This location is in the heart of Babylon so the crowds here can be quite large and the wait can be long. The decor inside is charming and all surf themed. It is loud inside, but the atmosphere is really cool if you want to grab a drink, really good tacos and people watch. I got the pulled pork nachos and they were delicious! Would 100% get them again. The pulled pork was tender and not overly saturated in any sort of sauce, the nachos were nice and crispy and of course the globs of guacamole and sour cream tied everything together perfectly. My t-street burrito was HUGE and I could barely put a dent in it, but had good flavor. My husband was raving about his chicken quesadilla and really enjoyed each of the 4 tacos he got. He even took some to go for the road! We'll definitely be making a trip back, you've earned our business. read more

I order a lot of take out from here and when I have friends visiting it's one of my top ten places to take them. Food and drinks here have always been great. This is where I took my fiancé on our first date. I opened with " don't pass the buck". I ordered take out and was waiting. I wanted a drink and instead of the person helping me getting my drink she told me to go across the bar. I get it; it's what they do. BUT.... I went. Bartender was either super busy or not there. Place is popping. Needless to stay I waited for 20 minutes with no drink. They fix that and they get full stars and most important my loyalty and money. Just sayin. Awesome vibes here! I like the variety of music from 311 to Bob Marley and the casual and fun ambiance. They have a tent in the back for additional seating and there was a few wooden tables for those without a reservation. Both times I've been there it was a beautiful day and they were busy so it was about a 30-45 min wait to receive your order so depending on the time I recommend ordering ahead! Either that or reserve a table. They do serve alcohol - and it was Tuesday so enjoy your taco Tuesday - any day. :) I recommend the loaded nachos ~ enough to share, and there's the 3 tacos for about $13 which you get fish, steak and chicken. The most affordable, delicious and fun local place to eat Mexican. It's super casual, everything is served in plastic baskets and quickly! You need to go on a weekday for lunch though, or else you'll wait for at least an hour. They give you chips and salsa, and you can order a side of guac and queso if you want, which I highly recommend. As for entrees, tacos are the way to go. Although the salads and burritos are great, the tacos are out of this world. I usually order 3 and I'm definitely full by the end. The crunch taco is my go-to. It's a classic beef taco with a crunchy Shell inside a soft shell kept to together with refried beans. The buffalo chicken taco isn't conventional Mexican but it's delicious. And lastly, my favorite taco, is the papas taco. It's made with potato and not meat, and has awesome flavors to it. Although this past trip I did not drink, I have had their drinks before and their margaritas are phenomenal. You can sit at the small bar and have a few casually there with a friend, or have them with your meal. Everything here is super affordable and if you're looking for a nice lunch to hang out and catch up with friends at a cheap price with delicious food, this is your place. I do not recommend for large groups though. Stick to 2 people if you can, 4 is okay but you may have to wait. Anymore than that and you'll never fit. read more

The salsa verde is soo good my 2 year old niece was sticking her fingers in it & just licking it up. You can purchase to-go salsa verde. The chips were crispy & fresh. The guacamole was fresh & delicious. I had the beef, carne asada & fish tacos they were all delicious & I'd get them again. Next time I want to go on a Monday/Thursday so I could try the crispy chicken. I am determined to try all of their tacos! The Swell Margarita was strong & refreshing. They have outdoor seating. The reason I'm giving 3 stars and not 4 is because of the time window they gave us. So I placed an order for pick up thru door dash - and we went to go pick up, the person told my husband that the order would be ready in 25 minutes. I ordered at 5:20 PM it said the order would be ready at 5:50, we got there at 5:48, they said + 25 minutes, ok so then why not call me? Clearly you have my number - tell me that is going to be half an hour extra. I just don't get it. Not to mention it was cold when we got the order. ‍ Ok I'm done venting - let's get to the actual food part. If I never had amazing tacos before this, these would be really good- so they're just "good" in my opinion, mediocre, fulfilling tacos. My favorite was the carne (steak) and the buffalo chicken taco- just because I love me some buffalo sauce. I read that there is a 1$ taco day, I think that would be when it would be worth to stop by. We also got churros and chips, the churros were heavenly, the chips tasted like plaster, but then again I've never had plaster. Won't be going back unless it's a Tuesday and I'm craving some tacos. Swell taco is a good taco shop in a prime location in the village of Babylon. It is a Long Island surfer style taco and drink restaurant. Its a relatively small restaurant and very casual, getting very busy during prime hours. Often you will have to wait if you go during peak eating times. The food itself is pretty good at a reasonable cost. It's not terrible authentic or creative, but well made and tasty. The service is quick and efficient.
