The quiche was small but moist and flavorful with savory little bacon pieces in it and came with a salad, and the corn muffin wasn't too sweet and came with a nice butter on the side. I had the very good burger with very good French fries while my wife had the Tomato and Ricotta plate and string beans with garnish. We had two glasses of white wine ($15) which was good. We will come back - maybe sit at the walk up bar on a lazy Sunday - and will try to order something other than their burger Total bill with tip $150 - not cheap Enjoy

We finally made it into Lonnie's for dinner. Yes, it's only been open for a couple of months, but…read moreit isn't often that a full-service restaurant with a good pedigree moves into the neighborhood, so I feel that I've been remiss. It's a winner. We showed up before our reservation, but the lovely hostess quickly got our table ready and there was no wait at all. Really, every staff member we encountered was sweet. The Sundowner (an old fashioned, flavored with grapefruit and amaro) hit the spot after a long day with my family, and the winelist has a few good options by the glass as well. We enjoyed the octopus skewers (SUPER tender, which is half the battle), the tempura squash blossoms (so delicious), a light and fresh cucumber soup with crabmeat, a simple lettuce salad with a bright and addictive dressing, the seasonal tagliatelle (corn, tomatoes, butter), the burger (can't be sad about it), and my favorite bite, this stone fruit/cured ham/stracciatella situation that blew my mind, despite the peaches not being perfectly ripe. Lonnie's isn't perfect, but they are still new and the issues are minor and will probably shake out over the coming months. Those Minor Issues: 1. If it were my place, I think I'd want my servers to tell tables there are only two squash blossoms in an order, and we should add another on for the third person at our table. This is a good practice for any shared plates. 2. The food running could be tighter. There was a slight hiccup (we saw some more) where they brought us some complimentary desserts right after we got our drinks. I was all for accepting them because I'm a terrible person, but my wife sensibly and kindly told the server that it was probably for another table. 3. No kid menu as of yet, although there were several kids throughout the restaurant (this is Boerum Hill). Some might say this is a feature though, not a bug. Similarly, the light is low and gorgeous, so I couldn't capture any of the beautiful plates I'm talking about in a photo (only a cocktail). Not a real issue for me, but it could be for some. Much like any other excellent, interesting restaurant these days, this is not a cheap meal. However, I appreciate that the burger comes in at $26 (not that bad these days), and it includes excellent fries (having to add them on is an insult). All in all, a place we're happy to have in the hood.

This is one of my friend's favorite restaurants. He's been telling me about it for over a year, and…read morenow that we came in and tried it, I can't blame him. The food is very good. The service is relaxed, but impeccable. It's a tiny space, and it feels like the neighborhood wine bar we all wish we had downstairs from our apartment. Speaking of, the wine, which they understandably pride themselves on, is so, so good. The selection is small, but excellent. My buddy loves his wine, and this is one of those restaurants that helps you understand why. My wife and I had a tough time making choices even on the short menu, but we shared the Dayboat Scallop, the Celery Salad, the Caramelle pasta, the beef tartare, and the Wagyu steak. (I imagine it changes often, so your options may be different when you come in.) Everything was plated beautifully, cooked carefully and well, seasoned properly, and absolutely delicious. The beef tartare was probably my favorite plate, but the celery salad was interesting and bright and wonderful, the scallop presentation was even better than the preparation (also great), and the greens that accompanied the wagyu (gai laan) were as tasty as the steak itself. Truly, the kitchen should be proud of everything they are putting out. All that said, our dinner was delicious, but so much expensive than I think is warranted. This is a neighborhood wine bar serving small plates that is priced like a Michelin-starred destination. In my personal opinion, the space is too casual and spare, the portions too small, and the food not stunning enough to justify the prices paid. Don't get me wrong, I understand that they are within their rights to charge whatever they need to in order to run their business, but I am also within my rights to consider it outside my price range for the offering. They seem like they're doing fine without me, and I will be happy to come back, but I will wait until my aforementioned friend is buying before coming back.

A Brooklyn Institution Frankies 457 Spuntino has been a…read morepopular Carroll Gardens institution since 2004, founded by chefs Frank Castronovo and Frank Falcinelli -- known lovingly throughout Brooklyn as "the Franks." In the two decades since they opened their doors on Court Street, they have become far more than a restaurant. It is a neighborhood culinary touchstone, and proof that consistent Italian cooking done with care and soul never goes out of style. I live not far from Court Street, and the walk to Frankies was its own kind of anticipation, hoping not to get lost with Google maps redirecting me on different streets, in the same urban sprawl neighborhood the entire way. Food is a universal language. Like football (GO USA! Shockingly, Italy failed to qualify for the FIFA 2026 World Cup!)-- it crosses every border, every culture, every generation. It is common ground. And Frankies, from the moment you arrive, the restaurant speaks that language fluently. The Setting The cozy interior exudes a vintage charm -- tin ceilings, Edison bulbs, exposed brick walls. The kind of warm dining room that makes you want to settle in, order another bottle of wine, and stay for hours. On a weekday night, our table of four was not rushed. And then there is the magical garden at Frankies which is one of Brooklyn's quiet treasures -- a scenic, verdant escape that feels a world away from the subway humming just beyond the gate. That evening, we looked across the garden to find a private party in full swing. And then -- because this is New York, and New York never stops surprising you -- we spotted Matt Damon among many star-studded guests, hosting what appeared to be a birthday celebration, perhaps a belated toast for his The Odyssey co-star Tom Holland. Only in Brooklyn. Only at Frankies. The Olive Oil Frankies organic extra virgin olive oil is exceptional -- clean, grassy, peppery, delicious. It is available at the restaurant and online, and I order it regularly. This olive oil elevates everything it touches. If you leave Frankies without a bottle, go back. The Food We arrived to catch up and the table was exactly what a great Italian meal should be -- jovial, generous, noisy with laughter, plates passed and shared with a Barolo wine my friend Susan, an experienced sommelier, picked from the wine selection. The meatballs are legendary -- feather-light, tender, lavished with raisins and pine nuts, served in a rich, satisfying sauce that tastes like it has been simmering since morning. These are, without question, the best meatballs in Brooklyn. Walking out the door, I told the manager you have the best meatballs in town. He agreed, then laughed. " I have been telling everyone that for years." The mozzarella plate was fresh, silky, and perfectly plated-- simple and stunning in the way that only the best ingredients can be. The cavatelli with hot sausage and browned sage butter and the house-made gnocchi are a staple of the kitchen and it earns every word of its reputation. Mamma mia! We left stuffed. We left happy. We left already planning our return.

We were seated outside at around 5:50pm with just 10 min to spare until the end of happy hour. Their happy hour serves 8 dollar spritzes of which I quite enjoyed the gondolier. We started off with the Laurel bakery bread basket which is a must. It was warm bread with 2 types of butter. The one thing lacking in the menu is vegetables. We shared the red oak and honey nut squash. The squash was not the center of the dish. Since the options were limited, we opted for the cucumber salad as well. For the entrees, the frites were the best. I was impressed that they were so hot and crispy despite them being larger. The steak was ok. The wiener schitznel was good but too much friedness to eat alone and the pork chop was very good stuffed with a sausage. We skipped dessert this time as we were full and nothing seemed too appealing. Can't wait to come back for the frites and tried the duck. Hopefully there will be more vegetable options next time.

With the voucher you had an option of 6pm or 8pm and we decided to go for a 6pm slot. When we arrived we were the only ones there, and this remained the case until about 8pm, so the atmosphere was lacking and it all felt a little sterile. The space itself is unique, with you seated around a small kitchen watching the 2 chefs prepare everything. We didn't have that much interaction with the chefs but our server was great and very personable. The 8 courses we had comprised of the following (I didn't catch the official dessert names so these are just my descriptions): Oyster with apple and jalapeño and shrimp with homemade cocktail sauce Fluke Ceviche Scallop with cauliflower Bluefin Tuna Shisito pepper, parsnip foam and fermented tomatoes Wagyu Beef Foie Gras and Peanut Butter (PB & J) Deconstructed peach cheesecake Chocolate "Oreo's" All of the food was good, with the exception of the tuna (which was underwhelming because of the tuna itself) and the Wagyu (because my wagyu was so fatty). The thing that really shines at Pearl Street are the sauces, every single one that we had was delicious and really elevated the dishes. Even the dishes which were underwhelming because of the main component you still enjoyed because the accompanying sauce was so flavourful. One thing I would just highlight is that there is no bathroom in the restaurant itself, you have to take a keycard and walk outside to alter neighbouring building. Not really a big deal but just something to be aware of. All in all we enjoyed our meal at Pearl Street but I am not sure I would revisit and pay the full menu price. On a Pulsd deal though it is great value and I would highly recommend giving this restaurant a try.
