Can't remember the last time we had fajitas! Most of the upscale Mexican restaurants in our neighborhood at home are too fancy. On vacation in New Hampshire and Vermont, we drove up to Keene for a casual dinner our 1st night out. The margarita menu, as you might expect from the name, is extensive; there was a time when I could drink them and I loved them! But then was not now. Tonight, hubs and I shared a 16-oz Modelo Especial that they had on draught. They served the full glass with a separate chilled glass, nice. I poured about half; I was driving, and there are several roundabouts to get into and out of town; it wouldn't be too safe if I drank the whole thing myself! Lol Before you order anything, server brings a good sized bowl of warm and tasty tortilla chips with a small bowl of good spicy salsa. We ordered the guacamole appetizer, a large portion on a plate with some fresh pico de gallo. You can get added jalapeños for no charge. Hubs doesn't do 'hot,' so I asked for the jalapeño on the side and got a little dish of slices. Yum with my guac and chips, and yum with my meal! We both ordered vegetable fajitas. These came out shortly after we got the guac, really too quickly. The 2-top table wasn't big enough to accommodate all the dishes! We were still eating guac and chips; a server brought out plates for each of us with: foil-wrapped warm tortillas (we chose corn instead of flour); a small scoop of guac; a pile of shredded cheese; a small scoop of sour cream; a bed of lettuce. Then he and our waitress each came out with a huge wooden board, on top of each was a pan still sizzling! Black beans, rice, and a ton of veggies! The usual onions & peppers, plus some mushrooms, corn kernels, and greens (kale? spinach? not sure). We hadn't had enough time to savor and finish the guac so we didn't want to give it up, but the table didn't have enough room for everything! We put half the remainder on each of our side dish plates in order to get rid of 1 dish. That wouldn't have been an issue if the timing was better, but we managed. Our beer glasses and our water glasses were also on the table, plus the first basket of chips and the small dish of salsa! That said, the food tasted freshly cooked and we enjoyed as much as we could possibly eat! read more

I don't write many negative reviews, and I'm pretty easygoing, but this experience earned it. I'm in Keene for business for about a week, and I figured a margarita and some Mexican food would be a safe, consistent choice. My first visit wasn't terrible, but it was obvious the bar was understaffed. That's a management issue, not a bartender issue. I stayed patient, but it took an incredibly long time to get any attention. The food was mediocre at best, but I wasn't expecting fine dining--just a decent meal and reasonable service. I decided to give them another chance a few days later because everyone can have an off night. This time it was a Saturday. The restaurant wasn't busy, and the bar had plenty of open seats. As I sat down, the bartender's greeting was, "I have a lot to do, so get comfortable." Not exactly a welcoming first impression. I tried to be understanding, but after sitting there for about 15 minutes without anyone coming over, I noticed someone who appeared to be the manager walking around without stepping in to help. At that point I decided it was time to leave. As I got up, both the bartender and the manager made eye contact with me, and neither made the slightest effort to acknowledge the wait, apologize, or ask me to stay. Looking back, I should have read the reviews before going. There are plenty of similar complaints, followed by the same generic management responses saying they're sorry and will do better. Based on my experience, those responses feel like lip service. If the same problems keep happening, it doesn't seem like there's much interest in actually fixing them. There are too many restaurants competing for people's business to treat customers this way. I won't be back. read more

Grilled fish tacos were ok no flavor seasoning salsa was very horrible tangy maybe bad who knows

The food was great, but the customer service from the manager, Charlie, was absolutely terrible. He was loud, disrespectful, and racist toward my family and me. What made it worse was seeing how horribly he treated his own employee, Aiden, who was nothing but respectful and helpful to us. Aiden deserves recognition for his professionalism despite how he was treated. No customer or employee deserves to be treated this way. read more

I was really disappointed with my recent experience at Margaritas in Keene. The service was slow and inattentive, and the food just wasn't as good as I remember it being. The biggest issue for me was hearing an older man, who looked to be in his 60s or 70s and appeared to be a manager or supervisor, yelling at employees in the kitchen. From where I was sitting in the lounge, I could hear him calling employees names, including "retard" and "idiot." It was pretty uncomfortable to hear, especially as a customer sitting nearby. Overall, I didn't feel like the experience was worth the money. I left disappointed and concerned about the way the employees were being spoken to. I hope upper management looks into what's going on and addresses both the customer experience and how employees are being treated. read more

This was one of the best Mexican restaurants I have ever been to! Even though they were very busy, we had great service and pleasant staff. The food was awesome! Highly recommend. read more

Lackluster front of the house. Service was abysmal. Food is meh. Margaritas are weak. Our second time but we will not return.

The Juan burrito they offer here is spectacular. The waiter was really nice and helpful. The environment gives out amazing Mexican vibes and is overall an amazing experience. read more

You might as well just go to Chili's. No one greeted us at the door. Had to go find someone to get us a seat. Waitress was awesome. The food was terrible the little chimi was like it came out of a package that I could've put in my air fryer. The small taco flight was tasteless and the food was over spiced with cumin or something similar... $50 for two appetizers and two sodas. Not authentic Mexican in any way very Americanized and very poor at that. read more

2 stars because the service was 5 stars, but the food was very bad-1 star. We ordered chips and cheese, birria tacos and fajitas. First, I'm from Texas and lived in Mexico for 2 years. This is NOT it. The cheese sauce has an overpowering cheddar flavor with a dense, almost pasty consistency, and the emulsion was starting to break, but probably the most edible item of the three. The birria tacos were the next best thing, the meat was tender, but lacked seasoning and was worse when dipped in the birria sauce. The fajitas were the worst overly cooked and seemingly seasoned with just pepper. No other flavors were discernible. The refried beans were NOT refried. The "guacamole" tasted like it was avocado blended with lettuce. The "best" part of the fajitas was the rice and even that was just ok. The tortillas (Note: I make my own flour tortillas) that came with the fajitas were pasty. I wouldn't feed them to my dog. The service was outstanding though! I suppose if you order just margaritas it might be ok, maybe enough margaritas and the food will taste better. read more

This place is right on Main Street and easy to get to. The decor and layout is interesting. Our waitress was great. We got Tacos cause it was taco Tuesday and we also had fajitas. Prices were very fair. Everything was really good. Would go back again read more

Food is inconsistent, service is terrible, and draft beer is $6.50. Please go somewhere else. This place sucks!

Stopped by after visiting family. Needed margaritas and they delivered. Tommy's Margarita is the best! Chips and salsa first rate. Fish tacos, good but dish slightly over fried. Shrimp tacos, lacked shrimp but were still tasty. Carnitas tacos, great meat, but what's up with all the corn? Service was good, prices reasonable. Would go again. read more

I got there late and the bar was still open and food was available! Bartender was new but multitasking with a half full bar and a few tables too. Fish tacos were very nice with a bit of spice but could have been a bit more on the moist or had a sauce to add moisture. Chips were perfect and salsa was fresh but someone should take the lime away from the person making it as the lime was very strong. Overall I liked the food and the staff was very pleasant. I would eat there again. read more

The last three times we've gotten takeout from Margaritas they got our order wrong. Better experience in person.

I got their taco salad and had a piece of metal wire in my food, they didn't offer anything, not even to get me something else to eat and still charged full price. Awful experience. read more

Recent visit I tried the birria tacos as there was a $5 off special for Friends & Family. I would pass on these. They were more like little quesadillas. Looked like they were grilled and kinda greasy looking. If you've had real birria street tacos this is not them. read more

100% the worst restaurant experience i have ever had. We were told to seat ourselves and our server would be with us shortly. It took someone 15 minutes to realize we were there. We Picked the cleanest looking table and sat down- only to find it was never wiped down. Our server brought us the wrong drinks. He did not provide any utensils or napkins. when asked for napkins we were given an attitude and sarcasm. after sitter awhile we noticed the floor was noticeably filthy, and people coming in continued to seat themselves at dirty tables. It was not busy. Many servers walking through the floor and not one took it upon themseves to tidy up a single table the whole two hours we sat there. We had the hectors quesadilla. One with beef, the other birria. We both got food poisoning within 6 hours. Absolutely horrible service and will never be back. read more

We just moved to Keene, and my parents came to visit and see our home. We thought we would take them out to a late lunch to welcome them to Keene for the first time, which didn't turn out as we had hoped. We had a party of 5, and came in shortly after 3PM. A table was available immediately, and the hostess led us to a table and walked away, clearly not looking at the table or booth, both of which were covered in cheese, taco meat, crayons, and more. They had just opened, so clearly this was from the night before. The hostess came back over at our request and wiped it down quickly. I wish I could say it was just the seating that was dirty, but no. There was food on the floor, the window sills looked like they've NEVER been cleaned, the water glasses had cheese dried onto them, and there was dust on everything. Not only was the restaurant physically dirty and disgusting, the food was not great. It was bland, and took FOREVER to come out. They also didn't have the Poblano Stuffed Pepper even though it was a Saturday shortly after opening, and had to check with the kitchen if they could do lettuce wraps instead of tortilla even though that's also printed on the menu. When the food finally did come out, we weren't provided with enough utensils, and when we request them, the waiter didn't come back for 15 minutes. The waiter also spilled some of the Rocket Pop 'Rita on the table, and he tried to quickly wipe it off, but was unsuccessful. We request additional napkins to wipe it up, but only received 3 napkins to clean a spill. To add to the discomfort and unease, at the end of all this, they read the bill out to the table to confirm the order, and then the total. We were taking my parents who were visiting from out of state for the first time, and I really would have appreciated if they didn't know how much the bills was. I also couldn't see the receipt before paying, which made me extremely uncomfortable. My husband and I both worked in restaurants as managers, and this was unacceptable on every level from beginning to end. Do better. read more

Slow. Slow. Slow. Cinco de Mayo. Not very full. Early afternoon on a Sunday. Drinks took forever to arrive. Too full. Slopping the goodness all over the place. Food was okay. Steak fajitas ordered medium rare. Some pieces mooing. Ordered "extra" portion. Glad I did because I think it would have been pretty short. Rice was not all cooked right. Quite a few pieces hard as a rock. Taco salad was small but tasty according to wife. Margaritas were okay. Either the tequila was very watered down or shorted for the size. As much as was in my overflowing glass, I should have been buzzed a bit. Nada. Cold inside. Ceiling fans not needed today. Underwhelmed by food and drinks but service by Haley was awesome. Great asset. read more

Food was good enough if there were some... odd choices (like weirdly sweet enchilada sauce smothering the taco salad?! and heavy cilantro in the refried beans), but even we heat-loving Texans found the salsa too hot to enjoy. The server went MIA after delivering the food. We had to ask the hostess to find him for our check. We've had some really delicious Mexican food on this trip. This was kinda meh. read more

Great food and great service! Waitress was very attentive and food was very good and came out fast.

Came recommended by the hotel across the street, and overall had a good experience. The weather was perfect, so we opted to eat out front on the patio. The hostess was *really* fabulous when we asked about nut allergies. She was very knowledgeable and accommodating (since her brother lives with similar allergies). She checked back in the kitchen and talked to the chefs for us. Server was a tad spacey but sweet, and the food hit the spot. The only 'thumbs down' was the loud motorbikes roaring by every minute or two, but this had nothing to do with the restaurant so I didn't dock any stars. Just know if you want a quiet evening, don't sit outdoors because it's the main drag for bikers. Would recommend for out of town guests and locals alike. read more

Great service and Great food. I recommend the barría tacos. They were one of the best tacos I've ever had. I also liked the options for seating. read more

We read mixed reviews but decided to give it a try. Wait staff was on point. Great people. The food.....first the plates were 783 degrees and they sucked all the moisture out of the rice. My hubby and I both got chicken chimechongas. They were stuffed so full of mozzarella cheese that it actually made me nauseated, and I'm a big panzarotti fan. My husband described the beans as tasting like the burned handle of the pot. Everything was so hot that the sour cream and guacamole melted. We left so much food on our plates that it didn't even count as a meal. If you too are on the fence, I recommend not doing it. read more

Good food, but awful service. I went with a party of three. The server brought our food out, but my order was wrong. I explained politely, but instead of acknowledging his mistake, the server argued with me about what I ordered. I have never had a server argue with me, especially about what I told them I had ordered. The other two in my party ate their meals while I waited for mine to be remade. The rest of my party was nearly finished eating when my server came back and asked me to clarify how I wanted my meal prepared. I told him at this point it was too late; the others in my party would be done eating by the time my food came out, so I asked to have my meal taken off the bill. He gave me more attitude about this, which really surprised me. Later, as the rest of my party was finishing up, a different server came out with my corrected order. I had to explain that I had nixed my entree, which was really awkward. Also, the server forgot my drink order (he asked me what I wanted to drink twice, but never brought it over). When we asked for the check, we had to wait 20+ minutes for it to come out When we got the check, the drink I never got was still listed on the check, so we had to flag him down and get that corrected. I really don't like complaining about businesses or bad service -- I don't think I've ever written a negative review for a restaurant before -- but this was a real circus. I wouldn't have minded messing up my order so much (accidents happen), but the attitude really bothered me. read more

It's just ok. Much better Mexican food in Keene than this place. I would only go here for a drink & chips

Never been to a Mexican restaurant. Service was terrible. loved the waitress. She was very nice. It was kind of loud. The steak I got was pretty good. Didn't really like anything else took her over 30 minutes to get us with the check kind of busy but not really dad almost left without paying food. Took a really long time to get to us. But if I had to give it stars, I would have given it a 2 /5 stars read more

The service was excellent. My waitress Tess was so friendly and attentive. Gave me a great recommendation for dinner, was quick with my food and very pleasant. I had the nachos which was large and really good and the margaritas were great. The place was clean and the tables are a good distance from each other so I felt Covid safe. Had a good vibe! I highly recommend, if you go ask for Tess or Danny. read more

Chain restaurant that always has a nice ambience. Staff is friendly. Food is just average. Today I had the shrimp lettuce tacos that were rated 1/5. Shrimp was flavorful but it was drenched in a sauce that was overwhelming. I would not get them again. Taco selections are just that...tacos... no rice or beans to accompany them unless you order that a la carte. My husband had the combo plate rated 4/5. I think this establishment is good for a hangout for drinks w friends. I left w my palate unsatisfied. read more

Okay I must say it's a beautiful place. Love the decor and it looked clean. Now that's said it might be because I'm from California which I really enjoy the Mexican food style that I haven't really found what I'm used to eating in New England yet. So along with that knowledge the food was okay but not my favorite. And I bought a two margaritas which the first one was awesome, second one was unfortunately really bad. Which I paid $15 and couldn't drink. I just left it on the table untouched except for one sip. If it's my choice I don't think I'll be a returning customer. Family members might enjoy it much more than me. read more

There are a few times in life when a meal is so expertly crafted and planned that it is nothing short of genius. Tonight, was not one of those meals. The queso was more like beer cheese. The guacamole was literally just mashed avocados no seasonings. Tess our waitress was amazing. But this "Mexican" was terrible. The enchiladas were so mid. I'm sorry but I couldn't let the restaurant get away with having 3 stars. You will be let down :( read more

Came here on a Sunday around 5:00pm. Outstanding food and drinks. I was actually blown away with the service and food.

We drive through Keene every so often and decide to stop at Margaritas on a Friday night. Pleasant hostess. Pleasant staff. Food horrible. Worst meal I have ever had at a restaurant. I am giving Margaritas 2 stars only because of the staff. Guacamole was just o.k. My husband had skillet enchiladas and the amount of beef in the enchiladas was the size of a quarter but if you have a hankering for cheese this is the place to be. I ordered a vegetarian skillet. I counted 3 peppers and 5 mushrooms no corn and who bakes lettuce in the oven.... Horrible. Great spot in Keene that place can be hopping but they definitely need to care more about the food they serve . read more

Solidly mediocre American-style Mexican food in a somewhat run down and not too clean setting.
