They say at the 99, you'll always come back for more. And after many years, I finally did come back. We recently had a large group lunch here. It was fairly well accommodated - we got four tables of 6 to ourselves and organized as needed. As a longtime 99 connoisseur going back to my college days, I had an idea of what to expect here. I offer the following on each point. * Food: A weak 4 stars. I had two apps. The mozzarella moons were overdone and a little underfilled but not bad in terms of taste. Right amount of dipping sauce. I also went for seafood stuffies - a pair of stuffies instead of one stuffie + chowder (lunch special). That was disappointing, as the stuffie was mostly stuff and very little clam. I've been to a good number of places in Greater Rhode Island that serve it up right, chock full of chopped clam. But overall food tasted great, I tried a couple of leftover fries and those were solid, and there were no leftovers. * Service: A bit jumbled. Orders all around us were not sure which table they were going to. A couple of times we were asked around about a dish none of us ordered. Now, everything we did order came out correctly, so there's that. And they kept my water glass filled. * Ambiance: The typical. A little limited by the hard barriers between tables, but plenty of room for 20+ people. I just feel like with the slow death of "old casual" restaurants like Applebee's, TGI Fridays, Houlihan's, and similar, 99 is more of the same and next on the block if they don't make a couple of changes. I'd rather pay an extra dollar or two to have my food not only taste good, but be packed with the ingredients I love. I'd rather pay an extra dollar or two to have quick, reliable service. I was in the area, there was call ahead seating, which is nice if unsure if it'll be busy. They have a bowl of popcorn as an appetizer which is a fun alternative to bread. We tried the crispy cauliflower, which was fried and with a ranch sauce (which we opted for instead of the siracha ranch). It was an interesting dish and a tasty presentation of a naturally boring vegetable. The entrees come with 2 sides which makes for a good well-rounded meal option. I got the seafood trio (shrimp, scallops, and fish) with broccoli and corn. Everything tasted good and was a reasonable price for a filling meal, and I liked that this was a relatively health options. Service was good, and the casual atmosphere worked for the food. Its a 99 so I was not expecting an organic grass fed wagyu burger. But even as a chain burger it was not very good at all. It had a taste of a cheap frozen burger you get in the freezer section. The salad was ok but they put tons of cheese on a house salad. Service was good, fast and friendly . 99 used to be pretty vood for a chain but slowly it seems to be losing its appeal. I will say this, their locations are super convenient when traveling for work. I just wish the food was a notch better. read more

Visited for late lunch with my husband. We sat at the bar, and split the check, but my husband picked up the full tip for full check. Thankfully, I was alerted that the bartender had added a tip to my portion of the bill! That a bartender would write in *any* amount on a signed credit card slip after the customer left is a felony! I called the Brattleboro store and told "a manager" the above, and he made a mocking comment when he learned what the amount was. The point wasn't the amount, the point was a grossly dishonest employee. The manager was dismissive at best. That employee should be fired, as am sure I am *not* the only one from whom he's sought to lift tip money dishonestly. Make sure you are charged what you signed for! Our family brought our mom/grandmother to the 99 for her 99th birthday! We were a party of eight and called ahead to let the staff know we'd be there and need space for all of us. Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly host that seated us in a section all prepared for our arrival. Our waiter, Christian, immediately understood what an important birthday this was that we're were celebrating. He was attentive, humorous, and showed appreciation for our mother/grandmother's limited hearing ability. He was so accommodating and worked hard to make sure all of us were happy. The food was great and everyone got something they enjoyed. The most special aspect of this visit that we will all remember is how honored the staff were that our mom/grandmother wanted to celebrate her 99th birthday at the 99. They comped her whole meal, her celebratory margarita, and a dessert of her choice. This was above and beyond and speaks highly to the staff of the 99 being a family oriented restaurant. We look forward to telling our friends about the superb experience we had here and thank the 99 in Brattleboro for making our mother/grandmother's 99th birthday a memory for us all. read more

So glad we just happened to pass by there, great food. Sorry no pix. A bowl.of free popcorn was a nice start as opposed to boring bread. The hot colassal lobster roll lives up to its name. It felt like two lobster tails in this roll, so full the meat was fallling out. Disappointed with the standard hot dog bun but the lobster was deliciously fresh. Choice of about 10 sides!!! Got the cole slaw and corn: cole slaw was good but the corn was canned and not great. Companion got fish&chips and loved it. 3 big pieces of fresh fish lightly battered made for a tasty meal. Ordered a watermelon spritzer cocktail which was weak and watery, wouldnt recommend.. Our waiter Gabe was excellent! I was impressed that the manager even walked by to ask if our meal was okay! ENTRANCE - saw a waiting line but went to host. Told there was a 25 minute wait so asked for bar seating and was immediately accommodated. CAPACITY - once inside they were limited table space to keep distances which I think is great. That explains the wait with open spaces for seating. MENU - I've been to 99 in Stratford CT and their menu was much bigger however that was b4 COVID. WAITRESS - massive high note she was moving at lightning speed making drinks and taking orders for far to many folks. Yet still pleasant and wonderful if only for a few seconds FOOD - a bit of a mixed bag. The scallop dish was offered with a choice of 2 sides. The scallops were actually very good and nicely backed so they weren't rubbery but a bit salty. The rice however was a failure, extremely crunchy suggesting not enough water and while seasoned for taste was a bit salty. The broccoli was bland and very soft. If you like it more al dente you may be out of luck. They could also enhance the flavor with anything so it isn't just boiled broccoli VINO - tried the house red that was decent for something stock PRICE - basically moderate at the $40 per person with a couple of drinks excluding tip. read more

On the second night of our stay in Brattleboro, my coworker and I chose to eat at 99. It was right down the street from our hotel so why not?! We saw plenty of cars in the parking lot the night before and the evening we went so it was an easy decision. We figured the food would be okay. The decor was basic...nothing to brag about. Our waitress was super nice. She brought out a bowl of popcorn. That was nice. I thought it would be hot popcorn but it wasn't. It was okay. It was something to munch on while I looked over the menu. I chose the Vermont Cheddar Burger (recommended by our waitress Sequoia) and my worker chose the Baked Schrod. I had stopped eating beef for a while but I wanted to taste this burger and it was tasty. My fries could've been better though. My coworker said that his fish was tasty as well. We stopped at this restaurant on our way down the highway. It's a busy area but the restaurant only had about four groups eating lunch. I don't like to badmouth the service industry, because it's tough, but this experience was bad. They advertise "classic pub food." The food tasted like it came right out of a bag and into the microwave (soup, veggies, rice, everything). Nothing was seasoned. I ordered fish and the only "flavors" were the crackers crumbled up on top. The food was similar to what you would find in a retirement home - no seasoning, no salt, just plain food. It was very underwhelming. Considering the prices ($6 for soup, $20 for a fish dish), I expected something better. My personal opinion is that they survive because of how busy the area is and the hotels nearby. I will say, the staff were very nice and accommodating. Lots of gluten free options along with gluten infused items for the rest of us! For those who aren't from the area, these restaurants remind me of an Applebee's but with seafood options. My husband got a GF burger and sides while I got a regular cheeseburger with fries. The manager was kind enough to explain how they would carefully cook his food and even checked that the sides he ordered were completely gluten free. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a decent restaurant in the area. read more

Went here with a group of friends for dinner, we had a party of 7 and some of the group had drinks before the meal came. I don't drink and had soda but others had mixed drinks, we ate and after that the manager came over and shut everyone off, the most drinks guys had were 3 some had 2 or 1. She explained it's a family restaurant and we weren't allowed any more alcohol. No one was loud or swearing whatsoever or causing any problems. This manager is apparently known as "chuckle" to the employees that work for her and is over the top with things like this, nothing like this has ever happened to us before and it made us feel singled out and that we didn't belong in a family restaurant even though we all have our own families. I could never recommend this place after this incident it was totally unwarranted. Our waitress was great and the food was typical for the 99 but this manager has to go because we'll never go back there thanks to her. read more

We stopped by here on our way to Vermont. This place brings back memories of Tufts University football games when my son played in college. We would always go to this restaurant chain which is all over New England. I really like that they put the number of calories of food choices on the menu. For me, it forces self control. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that the Sirloin Steak entry was one of the lowest calorie choices. The portion was so big that I split it with my mother-in-law. Guess this is the norm with aall menu choices. As I look around, dishes are gigantic!Instead of bread, they give you popcorn. I assume that this too is lower in calories. The service was excellent and relatively fast. Walls are adorned with pictures of local sports teams. This gives us an idea of what the community is like. I would recommend this chain to anyone who lives in or visits New England. read more

So, they don't take reservations, but they'll let you call in ahead of time to put your name on the list, and will let you know when to arrive. We did, and they did. However, when we did, we still had to wait another twenty minutes. They said that they just had to clear a table when we arrived, but it shouldn't take twenty minutes to clear a table. The food was ok, but not like we're used to from 99. My burger was overcooked, but edible. Lastly, when the Red Sox win the night before, kids eat free. We mentioned this at the start of our order, and their items still showed up on the bill at the end. He said we had to be 99 reward members, which I had told him we were. I pulled up the app, showed him my ID, and it took three attempts to get the receipt fixed. I know it's just a small fee for kids meals, but it's the principle of it, and one of the reasons why we love 99 (and the Red Sox). I went to the restaurant to watch the Patriots game but left early. Most of the employees looked disgruntled, one in particular. There was a bartender that had a look in her face that she didn't want to be there. Never greeted me, and avoided eye contact (you could tell she was miserable). I ordered a drink and dinner. My black bean veggie burger was fair, but it came with some wilted lettuce salad that was horrible. Usually I am a very generous tipper (20-30%), but left only 10% and even that was generous for the grumpy bartender. My opinion was that customers were either there primarily to or they liked poor food (and service). I would not recommend the 99 Restaurant, but to those who like get drunk and be loud and obnoxious, or will put up with sub-par food. I used to visit the 99 Restaurant (in Massachusetts) which I enjoyed, so I expected the same level of service and good food. But never again will I step foot in the 99 in Brattleboro. From their frosted glass mugs, to the delectable wing sauces, there is no other establishment in the area more worthy of your patronage and your appetite. When I sit down at the biggest bar in town, I know that I am going to be greeted by a hospitality professional; quick on the draw with a bowl of warm popcorn to fill the void that festers inside of me. I have spent many a night alone, or in company of friends eating my fried fish tacos, basking in the glory of a division two women's soccer game. Usually I avoid the desserts, and instead opt for just one more 32oz light beer. Because hey, I don't know when I will ever be back here. Just kidding, yes I do. I'll be back next Tuesday. My boss tells me - Jake, you called out again with gold fever, I am going to need a doctors note. I respond the only way appropriate, with my used napkin that I subconsciously put in my pocket so that my spiritual leader (the bartender) need not dirty their pure hands with my filth. Excellent food and service from Christine, our server. My wife loved her lobster roll & my sirloin steak was delicious as well as the chocolate chip cookie skillet. Christine stopped by several times to see how we were doing & to keep our beverages refreshed. She is very pleasant and certainly knows her job. The manager stopped by the tables to see how everyone was enjoying their experience. We always this consider this to be a sign that management cares about the customer experience. Yesterday afternoon we spent some time here with friends to celebrate a special event. We ended up coming in before the dinner rush with a large group and we were seated quickly. The atmosphere here was great and the staff at this location is amazimg. Our waitress was incredibly polite and attentive throughout our visit. We've experienced the Brattleboro 99 in just about every capacity: Eat in at the restaurant, eat in at the bar and curbside takeout. It's all been very good. The staff here are always in a good mood and are very friendly. For a chain style restaurant, they have a good menu. They usually rotate items based on seasons and keep the popular sellers on there year round. They do a good job at offering variety; and not just a burger or a chicken sandwich with a basil leave to make it "Italian". The menu is rather expansive, so there's most likely something there to make everyone happy. It can get busy here on a Friday or a Saturday. We've had luck getting a spot at the bar and eating our meal there. Or, try the curbside takeout. If you're heading up 91, call when you get a to Greenfield. You're food will be ready by the time you get to Exit 3. The staff here really seem to enjoy their job. Our server last time was very friendly and attentive. Other servers who were helping other customers smiled and said hello. We asked to move our table since we were seated close to the door...no problem at all. Our server took the time to explain the changes to the menu and gave her advice on what was good. I had what she suggested and it was excellent. The portions are generous. My wife ordered a salad and it was monstrous. This a good place to come if you're looking for a good meal at a good price with a friendly atmosphere. read more

For what it is, it's fine. There's just not that much to it. Onion soup was about as inedible as they come. No broth. Or perhaps it was the huge piece of bread they stuck on top. But that was very disappointing. The cobb salad was better. Fresh vegetables and a good portion. Get the dressing on the side. Prime rib may have been affordable but had lots of fat and other parts that were inedible. So the price of the part that you could eat was not as big of a bargain. Service was pretty good. Decor is typical for a 99 with some local touches. It was packed on a Friday night too. Overall, it's a fine place to stop as you head up north. After a quoted 25 minute wait that turned into a 40+ minute wait we finally got a table. Not only was the waitress rude, only one person at the table wanted a drink and they HAD their ID. Because only one individual who was not drinking didnt carry their ID we were refused service and drinks, given attitude and told she would be arrested. Unfortunately for her, we had a local restaurant manager with us who actually knows the law and knows that was crap. When the server brought the water back, she was rude about it as well. We are now 5 minutes up the road at this AMAZING Chinese place with no wait, very kind people and they ACTUALLY served us by IDing the correct person and following protocol. You shouldn't be denied one person drinking who has their ID just because their family member is at the table without theirs and NOT drinking. If you want a place that actually cares about your opinions and value customer service. Choose Panda North. Wayy better. read more

Stopped in to get quick bite before attending a lecture in Brattleboro. Ordered a beer (several drafts available) and asked for bowl of popcorn which came quickly. Had the chicken skewers with tomatoes (grilled and served in a small bowl on the side). Chicken serving was generous and comes with one side.
