I usually enjoy Margaritas Cafe's food and drinks. I must say I had a horrible experience in this margaritas cafe (Merrick). I guess not all locations run the same. I called for a pick up order two bistec con camones (2x) we asked to change the bistec to skirt steak and asked for well done. The manager accommodated our orders. We were the last order. I appreciate that the restaurant was able to make our order. I live about 5 mins away from the Merrick location. I got home very excited to have my food. This is what I got..... the steak had no sauce the steak was cold and medium!!!! The restaurant was closed I had to call the next day. I asked to speak the manger what I got in return was a nasty attitude. I started off thanking him for placing in my order. Then I let him know that it was cold and medium and no sauce was included. I didn't get a name btw, he mentioned when I picked up the food, that he has been with the owner over 20years... he didn't acknowledge his mistakes and just blamed everything on me because it was the last order, when I mentioned the medium steak he said, what do you want me to do?" he said & i quote "i don't care if you put up a review, I could care less".... All I wanted to tell him was next time please do not take my order if it will be rushed. At the end of the day I'm still paying FULL AMOUNT, so I expect the same quality. Please do not go this location. The manager was unprofessional. He gladly took my money $50+ but couldn't come with the same quality and had an attitude when confronted. Usually love Margarita's Cafes! Been to the Hicksville, Wantagh, and Williston park locations multiple times always leaving happy and satisfied! Unfortunately this place was terrible... they don't have a liquor license so any1 expecting to indulge in margaritas will be disappointed. The food was also terrible. I ordered my usual shrimp in the green sauce and when the waiter placed my dish before me it had a very offensive fishy smell. Fresh seafood is not supposed to taste fishy. I tried it and it tasted as awful as it smelt. I ate around the shrimp (rice and beans and salad) :( I try not to send food back but when the waiter asked how our meals were I mentioned I was disappointed. Truth be told it was inedible. He was nice to give a 10% discount off my meal but I definitely will not be going back to this location! read more

Ordered delivery from Margaritas to my job today with a coworker. He ordered the steak tacos with rice and beans and i ordered the pick two combination of an enchilada and a tamale along with an order of queso. The tacos presentation was beautiful and my coworker really enjoyed them. My combo was quite tasty, tamale was a little drier than I'm used to, but the sauce that came with it made it complete. The queso however is why I'm only giving three stars. It had a nice flavor but it seemed to have separated into a thin liquid layer on top and a thick chunky cheese mixture on the bottom. I tried stirring it together but it just kept separating. It was hard to scoop up with a chip as it wouldn't hold due to being so thin. I was really looking forward to the queso and i was let down. I would definitely order from them again though as the rest of my meal was delicious. read more

I have eaten at a few of their locations so this one only gets 4 stars because the one by my house actually is a bit tastier, unfortunately it's seasonal because it's on the waterfront in Freeport. So in order to get Mexican we have to go to this location. Still has great quality and the portions are great. However the front door opening in the winter gives a chilly blast of air, try to sit towards the back. The front door was locked, the music was extremely loud, even from the outside and no liquor license. Went to dinner with a friend who has a walking disability, and so we were very happy to get a spot right in front. Well it just was not our lucky day, the door was locked, with no sign indicating the entrance was in the back. They also had a sign on the front window letting us know in advance there was no liquor license. How does a place that calls it self Margaritas Cafe not serve Margaritas? Ate here twice and ordered take out once. All three times have been nice meals. So far, I've had the fish tacos, shrimp tacos, shrimp fajitas, guacamole, plantain appetizer and this avocado stuffed with shrimp appetizer. I've enjoyed everything. Nothing has been bad. My favorite was definitely the shrimp tacos. The fried plantains were good but just 'eh'. Needed something. The table side guacamole was very good. The rice and beans that comes with the meal were both delicious. The stuffed avocado appetizer was okay. Not what I was expecting. It was a cold appetizer and the shrimp that was stuffed in the avocado tasted just like shrimp salad (shrimp with a ton of mayo). Not my thing. The salsa that's placed on the table is actually rather delicious. I'm not a cilantro person so it was nice to not have it in the salsa. That being said, the last time I was there I made sure to specify twice to not add cilantro. However, all of my food had it. Just made me feel like whatever I said was disregarded. The service is terrific. Everything came in no time at all. Constantly filling the water up and refilling chips. Very friendly staff. Sure, they're missing the liquor license. But let's give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it'll be there soon! Only real complaint; everything is SUPER salty! On all 3 occasions, I've been left with the same thought: too too salty!! Guacamole taco was hard shell taco filled with guacamole - that's it, no tomatoes, just a big blob of guacamole in a taco. Came with a handful of shredded lettuce, hard rice and REFRIED beans. Get some fresh beans and fresh tomatoes, please. Get rid of the professionally staged photos of food on your website - totally misleading. Nachos Supreme was so sad - five slices of pickled jalapeño on greasy chips with hardened cheese and a blob of guacamole. No flavor - just gross, all of it. Just went here for dinner, and literally the ONLY bad thing was no liquor license. Especially when I really needed a margarita after work today! Bummer, true, but liquor licenses come with a bunch of hoops to jump through, and the food was so amazing that I can EASILY let it slide! We had the empanadas to start out, which were, hands down, the best I've ever had. People at work bring in empanadas sometimes from local places that supposedly have the "best empanadas ever," and my aunt used to work with a woman who was born and raised in Guatemala, who actually DID make the best empanadas I had ever had! None of those were even CLOSE to the empanadas I just had at Margaritas. The food just got better from there - chorizo enchiladas, fish tacos, chicken quesadillas. Everything was absolutely incredible! My wife and I usually go to Besito or Little Mexico if we want good Mexican food, which are pretty hard to beat out on the island, but this might just be the NEW place to beat! I can't speak for the other 3 locations, but we will definitely be going back!!! And hopefully next time we'll have some drinks to go with our dinner! read more

Myself and two friends went here on a Saturday night around 5:30 and felt super awkward and weird as soon as we sat down as we were the only customers in the place. The whole time we sat there not a single other table came in. Only a couple people picking up Uber orders. The place overall had a sketchy vibe to it not sure why but we all felt the same way. The girl making my drink wasn't wearing her mask so that was a little off putting. The random chunk of what looked like potato in our nachos was also somewhat off putting and the cherry on top was the gross crusty ketchup bottle my friend was given for her fries. It had dried up chunks of ketchup all around and inside of the lid so bad that she almost just went without it. All of the plates kind of looked like they were just thrown together which is whatever but knowing that we were the only people there i would have expected a little bit more time to be taken. We were all honestly kind of off put by the overall feel of the place as well as the nachos so we kind of played it safe on our entrees. I got the cheese quesadilla entree with the rice and beans and everything again kind of looked thrown together. The cheese quesadillas weren't crispy at all and there was way too more cheese i could barely eat it. It seemed like they were just microwaved honestly. Overall not happy with our experience and will not be going back. I was particularly not happy with the condition of that ketchup bottle it looked like it hadn't even been cleaned since before this whole virus considering how empty the place was and how dried up the ketchup looked. And especially at a time like this where youre hoping that restaurants are doing everything they can to keep things clean and sanitary. These were probably the worst tacos I've ever had. I'm serious. I ordered chicken and steak tacos and they broke apart while I was eating them. Literally caved in in my plate so I was basically eating a salad. But that forgivable. What was down right disrespectful was that fact that there was nooooo seasoning! Just had dinner there last night and the only really bad thing was they do not have their liquor license yet. We shared the dinner for 2 which had ribs, steak, shrimp, chicken, and chorizo sausage! It came with black beans, rice, and "salad." Everything was delicious and my only complaint was that we could have had more of the sides, they were not in proportion to the amount of meat (which is rather unbelievable.) Lots of delicious meat and too little of the sides. We especially could have had more black beans and salad (which was chopped tomatoes, onions and cilantro). Maybe if we had asked for more we would have been given more but I think a dinner for 2 should simply have larger quantities. There was only 1 waiter with 1 busboy working so service was a bit slow. We have had dinner at other Margarita's Cafe locations in the past. Plainview is ok and East Meadow is awful. We had dinner in Merrick a few weeks ago and found out that they never got their liquor license but still offer a complete drink menu. We were told that we could bring our own wine. We went back again tonight with wine and was told by another server that we could not bring our own wine and would not open it or bring us glasses. We walked out. After having an awful experience in East Meadow a few years ago and now this experience in Merrick, we are done with Margarita's. Two bad experiences is enough! read more

I was craving tacos/mexican food and decided to stop at Margarita's Cafe. As soon as I arrived, the beautiful decor and lights captured my attention. The host notified us it would be a 40-55 minute wait. The waiting area was cramped and the lack of seating available made the wait time feel painfully long. We had to constantly move away to avoid getting hit by the door inside the restaurant. I was trying to find the silver lining; if the wait was that long, then the food had to be amazing, right? Wrong. After 45 minutes of waiting, we were finally sat. The dining room was also small and I felt uncomfortable. I ordered "tacos mexicanos" which should've said "tacos americanos" because there was 0 flavor whatsoever. The tacos had "pico" which was BLAND. When I think of Mexican tacos I think of beef, onions, cilantro, radish, lime, green salsa. The tacos here didn't meet my expectations. My plate was hot but my food was cold. I'm very disappointed in my dinner tonight, I won't be coming back. It's expensive for no reason. I wish the food was just as lovely as the decorations. read more

My friends and I were freezing in the place and asked the 1 other staff member to turn on the heat. We felt it for maybe 10 minutes and then he turned it off right before our food arrived. Within minutes it got cold again and we didn't feel it was necessary to keep making him realize it was an icebox and to just leave it on considering it is winter outside. Won't be back to this location. Don't recommend it, especially if you want to enjoy a Margarita at Margaritas. Just stopped here with my boyfriend after we both got out of work. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have a liquor license but I'm sure they are getting one very soon. The food was incredible and the service was even better. We were constantly checked on by the wait staff, who were all so nice and friendly. We left a 65% tip because they truly deserved it.
