Frida's ambiance was elite!!! We came here for dinner on a Thursday and loved that they had live music. The decor inside is incredible but we decided to sit outside since the weather was great. The service was pretty fast, and I really enjoyed most of the dishes. The only thing that was okay was the guacamole -- it just wasn't really seasoned that well, but the complimentary salsa was delicious. I ordered the camarones en salsa verde which was very tasty (especially the salsa). It came with a side of beans, but those weren't that good. For dessert, I got the chocolate soufflé which came with ice cream, and that was a great end to our meal. All in all, I would come back and I enjoyed my meal! read more

The waitress was rude and didn't give us our receipt; she just walked away after swiping the credit card. Overpriced and not worth it one bit. Frida's highlights are its beautiful ambiance and happy hour drinks! The restaurant itself is gorgeous, clean and inviting! I came here on a weekday night with a friend and sat at the bar for happy hour. Happy hour is Mon-Fri 4-7pm. Highly recommend the passionfruit margarita! We also ordered: - deep fried carnitas bites (which was a bit dry, would've loved if it had a sauce!) from the happy hour menu - Shrimp birria tacos (not bad! I've been wanting to check out Frida's Mexican for a while, and finally made it there with a group of six, including two kids under 12. There was plenty on the menu for everyone. I went with the enchiladas, while others tried the tacos, which came three to an order. They were fresh, good-sized, and nicely done. The menu has some really creative dishes, but for a first visit, I like to stick with the basics to get a feel for the place. The chips and guacamole were great -- the guac was made fresh tableside and the chips were perfectly crisp. There's also a full bar and lots of parking since it's in a shopping center. Service was excellent and the restaurant was fairly busy for a Sunday evening. I'll definitely be back to try some of their more creative options next time. read more

We went last night for dinner without a reservation and were seated right away. Nice high end ambiance. We got the empanadas to start in each option and they were delicious, not oily, well filled and crust was flaky. I got ropa vieja, which was tender and flavorful & had to remind my server about the rice and beans to accompany it, which were ok. My husband enjoyed his vegetarian enchiladas. I took my family here for dinner. I've been here before 3-4 times with friends. I had reservations so no problem with that. We were seated right away. We got our starters and were enjoying but the server got our main course in less than 15 minutes. The server rushed us clearly and I'm very disappointed. We didn't even get dessert coz we wanted to just get out of there. I'm definitely not going here again with family n not even with friends. I'm so disappointed! After the absolute abysmal experience we had at 5 de Mayo, I decided to make a reservation at Frida's in Plainview on Cinco De Mayo thinking I would finally get to enjoy my night; started out waiting to get in even with a reservation, no big deal! Here's the problem, they obviously did not staff accordingly and the manager was running around like a chicken without a head, I've never seen someone move so fast yet accomplish absolutely nothing! After waiting for an extended period of time, we were finally sat but it only got worse! Being so packed you'd think they would have staffed accordingly but our waiter was absolutely overwhelmed, he tried his best but, we never got our drinks until our entrees came out and would have never received them had we not asked multiple times, the table next to us had the opposite problem, having their drinks first but never receiving their food! Well I rightly did not want to pay for those drinks considering how watered down they were once we got them; I did the only sensible thing and found my waiter and asked if I could get the drinks removed off the bill, mind you, we waited an HOUR just to get his attention or even catch sight of the manager. My waiter agreed to removed the drinks at least and I thought we were finally gonna get to go home in peace when out of nowhere this female waiter comes and makes some snark remarks to my waiter about me, not knowing I speak Spanish and she walked away before I could say anything, FYI the manager hid in the kitchen the whole night, awful service! Absolutely terrible business to talk about the customer right in front of them, but full credit to my waiter and the food or this would be a 1 star!!! Will never be back! read more

This is a gorgeous restaurant and if ambience was the only criteria they would get 5 stars. The food was good. Better Mexican food than I can find in my own town. There were problems though. One, the entrees were brought out while we were still eating appetizers. What do you do? Send entree back to get cold? We told the bus person and she had no response or even acknowledged the problem. So now we are being rushed while several tables still empty? Make this make sense. The music was a nice feature but they let customers who cannot sing go up there and it was AWFUL. Also music was too loud. Topping this off I got an email from my reservation app saying I did not show up. No shows are never good on your app record. So they did not mark us in when we arrived. Margarita was ok but def not made how I asked. Should we return for the pretty paintings of Frida? Hmmm. Not sure. read more

We ordered 3 steaks- med and medium rare and all 3 were over done and like leather . When we shared this with the server and manager- we had no response . I'm not too keen on Mexican food. It never really agrees with me and so I just usually pass on the offer. However, this weekend, the family chose Frida's to dine. I took it like a champ and went with the flow. I was first impressed with the beautiful ambiance. We dined at off peak time so it wasn't busy. The staff members were so kind and got all our order right. Service was reasonably fast. WHAT I ORDERED: Salmon Agridulce - perfectly grilled salmon with mango habanero sauce, rice and "tostones" fried plantains. Although it was delicious, the salmon was, in my opinion, a little overcooked and was on the dry side. I still enjoyed it. The mango habanero sauce provided a little wiggle room with its slight spiciness and sweetness. The rice tasted a bit plain. I was expecting a much more in depth Spanish flavor. The tostones were delicious. Overall, I enjoyed it. It wasn't bursting with flavors but I needed that less salty type of food for health reasons. So it basically benefited me...AND I had no adverse reaction to the Mexican food afterwards. So it was a plus for me this time around. Everyone else loved their choices (sorry no photos). Pretty food, but small portions to make it more like fine dining experience, but the only issue was that there was no variation from what a regular Mexican restaurant would provide, just presenting prettier. Pitcher of casamigos small pitcher for 62$ filled mostly with ice was ridiculous. Definitely not a repeat visit. Nice people working there but the empty restaurant should have been a huge red flag. To the restaurant, spice up those dishes with flavorings that can go with the pretty presentations. And pour the booze when we pay for the booze, lighten up on the ice!! Desert was good. The most underwhelming and disappointing customer service experience you could dream of ! I had tried the Fridas in Seaford, I loved the food but I was a little bothered by the service and understaffing. I figured maybe this one would be better. But trying on Cinco De Mayo boy was I wrong. What I don't understand is after years of business how do you not have any organization or staffing for a holiday that you know is going to be packed!!! We had an 8pm reservation, we walked in to see a nicely dressed man who seemed to be a host/manager along with a young girl who seemed to be in charge of take out only. The host stand had people surrounding it who didn't seem happy. Ahead of us was at least 2 couples and a group of 3 girls, then there was a whole crowd pushing behind us to get in. I looked into the large restaurant to see multiple tables empty, but not bussed. I also looked around to see servers and saw maybe 2-3 for a restaurant with that many tables and a whole outside being sat that is RIDICULOUS. Anyway, a woman comes in behind me and asks how long for a walk in, she says to the younger girl " We're only 2, it shouldn't be that long right??" Idk lady but read the room you don't see everyone else waiting. Anyway it was about 8:25 we were waiting over 20 minutes, one of the original couples waiting walked out and more and more reservations kept checking in. People were getting very frustrated understandably so. The walk in lady and her husband now go up to the host stand and say something, I'm assuming something pushy because it worked because and they got to skip our reservation and all the other reservations waiting!!!! The host had no idea what he was doing, he was clearly overwhelmed. He came back and I mentioned that he just sat a walk in when we've been waiting for our reservation for close to 30 minutes at this point?? He asks my name again as if I hadn't already checked in and then says 2 minutes. We finally get sat and we're starving. It takes over 10 minutes before we get ANYTHING, no water no chips no server. 10-15 minutes in our server drops chips and only chips. A 4 top sat right next to us sits about 5 minutes after us and seems to be experiencing the same lack of service. I don't blame our server bc he seemed to have over 15 tables at once which is INSANE. WHAT IS MANAGMENT DOING?? Anyway we finally get water 20 minutes in and my boyfriend's water is legitimately brown/yellow. It took about 15 minutes to replace that. The server came to introduce himself about 20 minutes in and I asked to place everything because I didn't want to wait hours for our food. The table next to us actually got to place drinks first but not food. So we order everything drinks, apps, entrees. About 20 more minutes pass and no drinks the server mentions the bar is backed up. Shortly after our queso fundito comes out with no tortillas we also don't have utensils. I'd say after 30 minutes of waiting the table next to us got drinks but we still have none. We had to ask for the tortillas and utensils from someone walking by. Then about 20 minutes later our food comes out and still no drinks. At this point multiple tables that came after us had drinks so I informed the waiter of that and we finally get the drinks after half way into our entrees. My whole experience was ruined at this point. The table next to us was now fuming because its been over an hour since they ordered food and they got no food beside from their apps. I saw new tables sitting and looking around for service too. It was a disaster hidden in loud DJ music. Not to mention it was this busy the whole night and after seating all the reservations management disappeared and barely helped the staff. We saw him staying in the back, because we were looking for him so we can complain. Finally my boyfriend goes up to the younger host to ask to speak to either the manager or our server because no-one was coming up to us so we could pay or ask for the drinks off. My boyfriend spoke to the server who he said was very nice about the situation and fully apologized. He did comp the drinks rightfully so considering we waited 1 hour for them. What was unprofessional was the female server who went up to our male server and aggressively said in Spanish " You're giving him free dessert too!!!!!!" Not knowing or not caring that my boyfriend speaks Spanish. My boyfriend responded he's actually not but she was already storming away. HOW UNPROFESSIONAL to reprimand a coworker in front of a customer about the customer??? And to be upset about customers getting something free when the service has been TERRIBLE, that girl needs a reality check. My boyfriend and I were in food service for years, I personally served at two Mexican restaurants during cinco de mayo and I would have been mortified to give the service this place gave. Anyway, I don't blame our waiter, he was nice and did the best he could given the circumstances. Management needs IMPROVEMENT. read more

I'm giving this 3 stars because I did really love my server. He was very attentive and sweet despite being very busy. The cocktails I ordered were hit or miss I got 3 and only liked one. I ordered fish tacos and the fish was a weird texture, it came with rice and beans that were very bland. The noise level in this restaurant was also very high, I couldn't even hear the person sitting across from me. My ears were ringing when I left. At this point in time I can't say that I can recommend this restaurant. I would possibly be willing to give them another shot in the future. read more

I under-estimated Frida's. I wasn't sure about a high end Mexican spot but I was wrong!! The space is super trendy and had a buzz about it (we went on a Saturday night). Our waiter was very patient with us while we navigated the menu. We had a table of 4 so we wanted to make sure we tried as much as we could. We started with the empanada appetizer which had 3 different types of empanadas. One of the specials was skirt steak, scallops and shrimp which serves 2. This is a great option if you want to try a few different things. We added fajitas and a birria taco entrée to complete our order. Everything was fantastic! I've passed this little storefront restaurant so many times without thinking much about it. Once inside it's like being transported to a beautiful little tropical village. Our server was very friendly and prompt. The margaritas were very good despite mine having too much ice. I had the steak with chimmichurri sauce. Very good but somewhat undercooked. I asked for medium and got very rare. My husband had the shrimp with garlic and white wine which was very good. He also had the flan for dessert which was outstanding. Frida's Mexican is relatively new to the Plainview area and it was time for this foodie to check it out. THE GROWS: The acoustics make for a very noisy venue. We had some trouble hearing one another (and we are NOT at the age where we request to sit away from the DJ at weddings!) due to a loud group dining across the room. When I placed my order, I asked if the combo fajitas could contain just shrimp and chicken instead of adding steak. The server said sure and they would add more of the two. Well, I was only given 3 shrimp and all chicken--I could have paid less for the chicken fajitas. Three shrimp was just noth worth the upcharge. THE GLOWS: Their queso fundido was fresh, not oily, and didn't have that overly-salted quality that many other restaurants seem to have. The fajitas (exclusive of critique above) were sizzling hot and accompanied by all the sides and toppings you could want. The tortilla shells were warm and rolled beautifully for presentation. I love how the ambiance reminded me of a cafe in Europe (or Mexico City, if you've ever been!), and the bachata music playing above added to the experience. New Mexican spot in Plainview Centre is a perfect place to gran a relaxing bite after shopping for some essentials in any of the four corners of strip centers here. This is at the north east strip and includes a paris baguette, a Ruby and Jennas, a Starbucks an Amazing deals ( housewares super discount store) and a few other variety of shops. I think there was a Massage envy but not sure if it survived or is still around. So no your not on the water or in some seaside cafe but your in a strip center with doors open to site on the side walk overlooking the parking lot. Feels ok when in this bustling hub of Suburbia so when in Robe enjoy. We got the chimichangas more like three egg rolls topped with squirts of guac sauce and drizzly sour cream. Small sided of rice and beans are brought and all is well with the world. There is an upbeat cool vibe here. I went to Frida's for dinner. The inside is very pretty with some nice roomy booth seats. We started off with the guacamole which they make table side. It was very fresh and delicious. For my entree I got Cameron's en salsa verde which was also very good. The sauce was superb and the shrimp delicious. My son got the arroz con pollo which was also good. The chicken was very tender. They also had a live singer which was nice. It was a little loud in the restaurant overall but wasn't terrible. While we are still eating our appetizers, we ordered our entrees. By 7:45, entrees came and we were enjoying the food. Until the server tried to take our food again without asking us if we were done. My friend said she's done and I said I want the rest of my food to take home. After cleaning our table I asked for a dessert menu. The server looked at me in disgust and asked me if I want a dessert menu, I said yes please. So we were deciding what dessert to order and server came back. We were ordering our desserts, when she got to the 2nd order, she left our table. We were not done ordering. So we said, it's ok. We'll try to catch her again. She came back with the 2 desserts we ordered and we asked for some coffee..she got the nerves to tell us "NO, I am not serving you coffee because I asked you 5 minutes ago and you didn't answer. Besides, the manager told me you have to leave because there's another party coming" mind you, this is 8:10. We were not told prior that there's a time limit on the table, it was not written on their menu, nor their website. So my friend got really upset and asked for the manager (ALEX). He is useless as well. He was arguing with my friend instead of explaining why we were being rushed. That was really rude and very unprofessional! We were really disappointed. The ambiance is definitely a 10/10 experience. The atmosphere and decor is beautifuly done. We were there on a Saturday night and they had lovely live music. I had their margarita ( perfect on the level of sour and sweet) and we ordered the Mexican street corn (delicious), salmon salad (5/10 on taste), and the fridas tacos (6/10 on taste). Walking into Frida's it is easy to tell why it is named just that - beautiful decor of fake trees and flowers with paintings of Frida across the wall. Even the bathroom was adorned with bright flowers. Well lit room with a bar on the side, tiny corner where a man was playing lovely guitar music. Happy but loud lively ambiance, even the waitstaff were joyful and energetic. Free chips and salsa on the table but watch out- that salsa is SPICEY - whoa. We shared some guacamole, they make it for you tableside, it was too salty but overall good. Entrees came out quick, I ordered my usual quesadilla - almost 10/10 for gooeyness and it came with more guacamole! sides of rice, beans, sour cream and a mild red sauce that was a little more earthy than salsa.
