Great food, drinks, and service. However in general, I feel like it's a bit over priced!

Great happy hour. Really tasty food. Food - You have got to try the Gnocchi and Sicilian Pizza. The gnocchi were perfectly made. The lamb bologenese on top of the gnocchi had the perfect amount of meat, sauce, spices. We also tried the Fettuccine Alfredo with meatball. The meatball itself is like 3/4th a pound! Drinks - Like all Cameron Mitchell Restaurants, they only allow happy hour in the bar area. The bar area is way too small for how busy it gets. The bar stools are first come, first serve, but if you want a table you need to put your name in the waitlist at the front desk. On a Thursday just before 5, the waittime was at 45 minutes.. Once you actually get a table the happy hour is pretty good. They make the drinks strong. The noise level in the bar area is SO LOUD though. We were yelling to hear each other. I'm giving 5 stars for the food. The food was really good. Probably one of the best italian restaurants I've been too. The hassle & noise in the bar area are not considered in my rating. If they were, I'd give this place a 3. read more

I grew up in an Italian town, been to Italy and have eaten at some of the best restaurants across the country. But I can honestly say the lasagna and meatball I had last night at Marcella's was the best I ever had! Definitely can't wait to go back again! read more

An early Monday dinner at Marcella's and there was ample seating unlike other times we have gone on weekends. The tabletops are a bit cramped with pizza racks and plates and silverware. Our server was friendly and quickly brought us drinks and table bread. Our son ordered the beef carpaccio, which is fresh and delicious. The capers, sauce and nutty arugula perfectly balance the crispy toast and delicate beef. I had the gnocchi in bolognese. The gnocchi were soft and creamy and the sauce was rich and flavorful with meat that had stewed for a long time. My husband had fettuccini with bolognese and shrimp. The pasta was fresh and covered in the same rich sauce. Portions were perfect. We were full but no leftovers. One of the best Italian places in Columbus. read more

Get the bruschetta! Yum. Very attentive waitstaff. We sat outside and thank goodness my kids are older or else we would have had to move indoors away from the nasty old man and his date. It was a disgusting display. But how do you tell grown people to "get a flipping room"! Yuck. And to the woman he was with - good grief - have some sense of decency. What he was doing was absolutely disgusting. Thank goodness the obscene individuals left before our meal showed up. Anyway apart from that the food was outstanding. I would say tip well bc if that nasty man is a regular - the waitstaff deserves to be tipped to have to deal with that crap! And get the cannoli! read more

OK! I am going to start off by saying that I do not enjoy giving negative feedback to folks that need a job to making a living. There are times however that I feel it necessary to leave feedback as to share my experience in hopes to provide an opportunity for coaching and development of said staff. The evening was going great until we encountered an issues precedented by the staff at the Polaris location. My friend was getting up to use the restroom and there was a stool next to our table with a load of glasses on it. In effort to try and meditate any issues, my friend tried to work around the stool and bumped a cup of hot water on our table and it consequently spilled all over the table. We tried to notify our Server Crysten however she was no where to be found. Another Server Jenna came over to assist us with the water clean up which was very nice. I politely asked that they remove the bin of glasses and the stool to prevent any further issues. Our request was ignored. A Manager by the name of Austin was near and I asked if he was a Manager and he confirmed same. I then explained what happened and requested that he remove the stool from its inappropriate location to prevent any further issues and advised that I asked his staff and the request was ignored. Austin had the audacity to ask if we would like to change to another table and that the stool typically is there. I honestly felt very insulted that he would ask us to pick up all of our belongings to relocate to another table rather than taking two seconds to move a stool to a more appropriate location. On top of this Austin was very condescending and rude which really upset me and my guest and put us in a rather unpleasant mood. It was my first evening out on a weekend like this and I was hoping to enjoy the evening and spend time with a great friend I hadn't seen in months. Another issue was that the Server Crysten elected to remove herself as our Server and continued to serve the table next to us leaving us without service for a while until luckily another Server Cat was able to further assist us. She was very nice, kind, sweet and professional. Your Manager Austin needs some coaching on how to be a Professional and not be condescending to a paying customer! Crysten needs to be coached on who to handle difficult situations or go home for the day. This whole entire issue was caused by your employees choice to stick a stool right next to a table that is being used to serve customers with a bin full of glasses. The employees there should be making better choices and have a Manager who is intelligent enough to realize that this was a hazard and been proactive enough to resolve the issue. I will NEVER step foot into this restaurant again! There are too many options in the area where I can get better and more professional service! read more

I finally ate at Marcella's last weekend, and overall I would say the food was definitely a step above an Olive Garden/mega chain restaurant but not quite the super authentic Italian experience I was going for. We started with the arancini (fried risotto balls) - amazing! So cheesy on the inside and nice and firm so they held up well for dipping into the marinara sauce that comes with it. For our meals, I ordered the chicken parmesan -- pretty tasty, but missing some Italian zest. The only real flavor was cheese, so I guess I was just wanting more herbs and spices in the dish. My husband ordered the meatball with alfredo pasta, and though he loved the pasta he definitely did not care for the jello-like meatball. We've had some moist Italian meatballs before, but this giant meatball was just TOO moist for us! In my mouth it just didn't resemble meat because of the super-soft texture, which is what my husband didn't care for either. The meatball also didn't have any flavor besides the sauce on the outside, so again missing some "zest". Overall, I was satisfied with most of our food and would love to go back and try totally different things -- the entire menu sounded great to me! read more

I met friends there today for lunch. I really had to question whether they were a part of the Cameron Mitchell collection of restaurants. The food was OK. That is really rare for me to say about a CM restaurant. Usually the food is outstanding and I can't say that today. I ordered the Panini chicken Parm and chop salad. The sandwich came with a brioche bun (not pressed like a panini) and the salad was wilted. Our appetizer the calamari which is some of the best in the city was cold when he got to our table. So of course we could need it and we didn't say anything to the wages because there were so few wait staff. read more

I was really expecting more from Marcellas, being a Cameron Mitchell Restaurant and all but it turned out to be more like Brio or Bravo, at least the bars happy hour. It was packed, but lucky for us we got a tiny table, one chair and bench. Way too cramped for 3 people and after asking several times for a larger table they brought us a buzzer and said we were on the list AFTER our food arrived, no point now... I get that its packed since they do have great prices from 4-7pm but then they should accomidate the rush with better seating and more than one frazzled and very overworked waitress. We took advantage of the great deals and got the cheese bread, better than at most places but not very cheesy, garlicky, too plain for me. Also the arancini, risotto fritters only so so. Nothing bad, basically fried rice balls, again lacking flavor. The Bistecca Burger not bad, but nothing special whatsoever, 2 patties and 3 meat I was expecting more, it was more like a McDonalds double cheeseburger, fries soggy. The chicken parmesan after requesting all items without mayo, had mayo on it so we sent it back after a bite, at least we got to try it and it was just a frozen chicken patty, not real breast meat, dissapointing. My favorite item was the italian beef sandwhich which I got in spicy, which it wasn't but it was pretty tasty, traditonal pulled beef, very very good dipping sauce and nice veggies, fries again soggy. I got a caesar and it was fresh, the parmesan crisp and croutons yummy, the house dressing was horrible, so sour that I had the worst taste in my mouth all evening, bummer. To round it off we got the sicilian pizza, after watching all the delicious looking pizzas come out I wondered if we should have ordered MORE pizza but tasting it I was glad we didn/t. The famous meatballs were mushy and watery, I am so glad my husband said no to ordering the huge meatball app or the meatball sliders. They ruined the pizza, the crust was fine, sauce and cheese non existant. In all $30 for all that food was descent, the food no better than Brio or bravo where you can get the bar menu for $2.95+,, so I'd rather go there. read more

We had a very enjoyable visit to Marcella's at Polaris. I visited with a group of four with a reservation, and we were seated promptly by a friendly hosting staff. Our server was prompt and attentive, and the atmosphere was similar to the tone set by the first location in Short North, a comfortable homey experience with mismatched dishes. The food was quite good. I was happy to see this location also offers gluten-free bread brought out with the regular, and it was a delightful herb bread that was very flavorful. The server was kind enough to bring out two baskets, so that the non-gluten free folks in our group could sample it too. Everyone was quite impressed with taste and texture. Dinner really hit the spot! Dishes ordered included the classic Spaghetti & Meatball, the Eggplant Parmesan, and the Gnocchi con Bolognese. As others have mentioned, the meatball in the spaghetti is more than enough - it's about the size of a hamburger patty! The Eggplant Parmesan came out warm and cheesy, and the gnocchi paired with the sauce was much enjoyed. The gluten free menu features a number of options, including gluten free dough and pasta to make a variety of pizza and pasta dishes. I opted for the Roasted Chicken & Broccolini Risotto, which was creamy and delicious with caramelized onions, chicken, and chopped broccolini. All of the dishes were good-sized, and we took a number of leftovers home with us. Those in the group who can eat gluten shared an order of Cannoli for dessert. They said it was quite good, with some great flavors from candied orange and pistachio, and it came with a side of chocolate ganache. There were three large cannoli on the plate, so it was a nice serving size for sharing after dinner. Great meal! read more

Great happy hour!!! My friends and I shared a pitcher of the red sangria and stuffed mushrooms, arancini, zucchini, potato pizza and mushroom pizza. It was the right amount of food for four people and we were pleasantly full. I loved everything and am looking forward to trying more pizzas and cannot wait to order the arancini and stuffed mushrooms again. The zucchini app was more like zuchini chips sliced quite thin and a little oily for my taste but loved everything else. We spent about 12$ each total, quite a steal! read more

I highly highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who has celiacs disease/gluten intolerances. They have so so many options! This includes gluten free bread, so many entrée options and also a gluten free cheesecake! Not to mention that the food here is just so flavorful and wonderful. The server was excellent. Jim gave us a very welcoming greeting and it continued through our experience. This was our first time here. We ordered a gin signature drink and he ordered a Jameson signature drink both were not good... We ordered calamari as an appetizer which was good. We split a Sicilian pizza and it was more than enough for us two. Great tasting. Saved room for dessert. Ordered tiramisu with red wine. Terrible tiramisu. Terrible Sangiovese wine. Atmosphere was not great. We came in within the last two hours of closing. Didn't hate it just not a top to go back situation. read more

I have always liked Marcellas, even loved it on occasion. Both locations are good just different feel at each given where they are in the city. Polaris is more of a place for families and groups, short north is for date night. The Good: THE Most gluten free options available at any restaurant around town at least that I know of-gnocchi, pizza, pasta, bread, available. Very good entrees overall and I have had several. Good service. Child friendly and generally accommodating. Very good house white wine, very good drinks. The Bad: sometimes on off days there's a less than stellar chef in the kitchen. Free gluten free bread is stale, freezer burned, dried out and cold. Gf pizza is sometimes burnt and cracker thin. Sometimes overly salty entrees and I like salt. Portions can be off. But, usually Saturdays and Fridays are tops. read more

Beautiful, convenient location, but the food is MEH. Cold bread, cheap non tasting olive oil. Then we received entree's that were not consistent with any traditional preparation. Received Piccata with a bone in roasted chicken and my husband had Marcella with onions and carrots like a stew. They suggested I should have read the menu, but really if I order a pizza and it comes out on a bed of lettuce...it's not pizza. It was average at best and too many choices in the area to settle for MEH. read more

Marcella's is one of my favorite Happy Hour spots in the city. It's close to the job, the food is great, and the prices are amazing! Half off of scratch made Italian food is the way to go! If you come here during Happy Hour, sit at the bar and the servers will take great care of you. They are veterans in the game and their service is excellent. Food: I recommend the chicken Parmesan sandwich and the Italian beef sandwich. They are normally priced around $10-$12 but during Happy Hour, they are half off. The rest of the menu is great too. (Hack: sub the fries for broccoli! It bangs!) Drinks: they have great wine, beer, and cocktail specials too $2-$3 off depending on what you get. I come here at least every other week and it never disappoints. Just make sure you say hi when you see me in here! read more

Great italian restaurant , very authentic. I tried the tomato basil soup and the salmon and both were really good. The salmon was cooked perfectly. The servers were friendly and the place is clean with a great ambiance. I am not a huge fan of Italian food but this place did not dissapoint. The front of house staff is well trained, but the back of house needs to get with the program. . The manager spoke to us and comped the whole meal. I've only been to the branch in Short North but Polaris is definitely more spacious! Service is also great. Food is amaaaazing!! For some reason, I feel like the pasta portion is a tad bit bigger but I could be wrong. The meatball is definitely a must when you come here! Recently tried the pizza and it's pretty good as well. This place is just fine. Veal meatballs was tasty but the description by our server was a little embellished. She described it as the size of a softball. I fell for the marketing hype. Not as big as she described. Don't stuff tissues in your ......ooops different review. Had the shellfish risotto. The flavor was there, the texture of the risotto was spot on, the creaminess I expect was present and not overwhelming, the downside was in its proteins. They were overcooked. Everything that had it going in this dish was ruined by the overcooked pieces. They were generous with their proteins but poorly prepared. We ordered a variety of appetizers. Cheese plates, olives, meats, everything we ordered stimulated our appetite as they should. Skip the bread. Had a big party - we used the room they had and it accommodated our loud group. read more

Dear Cameron Mitchell, RE: Cannoli True Italians know a cannoli. Stuffed with a sweet ricotta filling and some bittersweet chocolate and a touch of cinnamon and powdered sugar. Molto Bene! Yours was a disaster!!! It wasn't even close to a taste of rigot! It was filled with frosting! Not the creamy rich delight that Italians love. It was runny with the consistency of watery yogurt and flavorless beyond your added sugar. The shell, while it had a touch of cinnamon, was way too thin, over cooked, and lacked presence. With a delightful meal otherwise, your cannoli was such a disappointment that NO PERSON should order such a white-bread version of a true classic - EVER. Such a let down on a great meal. Found Marcella's while in the Polaris area. Went in for lunch and was pleased with the food, service, environment, and price. I have always gotten the Penne alla arrabiata and let me say wow! I love that dish. The Marcellas chopped salad with creamy Italian is very good as well. The dish I get is a pasta combo as its always lunch when I go and is enough food for a lunch serving. The pasta is just right, not over cooked, sauce has a slight kick to it (I like spicy food). The dish is not overly saucy but also not dry, and the taste is OMG. I like this place so much I could eat here twice a week! I havent ventured off what I fell in love with but will be trying some new dishes. Ever catch yourself in the area and want Italian make a pit stop. It's worth the try! read more

"I'd really rather just never go back there again." - what I said to my husband as soon as we walked through the doors. Giving this place 2 stars because it was edible and it was kinda sorta like they tried to make the meals look appetizing. We went in at 8 pm last night because we were hungry, in no mood to cook when we got home, and wanted to try somewhere different. I was in the mood for Italian. They weren't busy, maybe 4 other tables in the main area were seated and 2 at the bar. Our waitress was friendly enough, and knowledgeable about the menu, so that helps when it's your first time somewhere. My husband ordered the fettuccine and meatball and I ordered the Chicken Piccata (it's what I almost always order when it's on a menu, I can't help it...I see that and it's tunnel vision from there). I also ordered a glass of the house Pinot Grigio since the entrees didn't come with a salad or soup, so I figured I could enjoy that while we waited. Well, after 10-15 mins, our waitress came back to fill our water glasses and I told her to forget the wine and she said "oh you don't want it anymore?" and I just stated "I didn't realize it would take this long to pour a glass of wine..." Again...they weren't busy. I don't know if she forgot or what but either way, I didn't want to have to crush it while eating my meal. She did bring us olive oil and bread. Three slices of bread. Nothing special about either of those and the three slices for two people was an interesting touch. Our meals came out shortly after I told her I didn't want the wine. It all LOOKED good. The bone in my chicken was an unusual surprise. It also wasn't cooked like I was used to seeing, not saying it was a bad thing, because it wasn't dried out, but it also didn't have much flavor. It wasn't breaded or pan fried, which is what I was expecting. Husband ordered the popular fettuccine and meatball and was a little surprised when it was super soft inside and red (looked and tasted not cooked). Our waitress did have a good explanation for that - apparently the meat is braised for a day before hand and it's a blend of pork and veal. He felt okay eating it after that, but when you're not expecting that, it'll put a halt in your eating. For the price, I feel like we should've just gone to Olive Garden and we would've both enjoyed our meals much more. So that combined with slow service and not super good tasting food, we won't be back. read more

If they mess up your meal, give you a warm to hot bottle of wine, don't know the specials, and then dump a bottle on wine on you, just get up and leave. And that's what we did with the manger apologetic blessing. Off night maybe, Olive Garden with less standards, probably. read more

One of our favorite restaurants ... but we called to ask if an outside table was available ( celebrating our anniversary with our first restaurant meal since Covid) and were told no problem at all for the time we requested. He even took our name and phone number. When we arrived we were told that no outside seats were available. When we mentioned that we had called and actually made a reservation for outdoor we were told rather snottily by the host that " I'm sorry you were told that but it's not something we do". No attempt was made to accommodate us, just a repeated " that's not something we do". So we left , rather you their surprise. Not the way to treat long time customers . read more

New to Cbus & a few folks have recommended the meatballs at Marcellas... & I'm a huge fan of Meatballs. Being a New York native I'd be lying if I didn't say I was a slight skeptic but my Cbus foodies food cred just went up - these meatballs were worth the hype & more. 1) they are HUGE 2) well seasoned 3) hella moist, Melt in your mouth-ish and 4) the sauce was hearty w/o taking away from the meatball. Ever had tomato based sauce that was either too acrid or too watery & it just made whatever it was on soupy? Not this! Damn deelish. I was so excited abt it I missed the photo opp. We shared one as an appetizer among other things that Ill get to in a second & enjoyed it so much everyone added one to their meal.. so 5 stars for the meatball. The other app- sounded good cheese, apples, honey & toast. The apples Were extra thinly sliced which is a nice touch to help absorb the honey & the cheese was deelish - it was just a little on the stingy side & the bread/toast was a crouton texture cut in cute triangles. Lost a star for the toast - didnt add much value to the appetizer & the bread for the table for an Italian restaurant was nothing to brag about unless you used it to "sop up" (yah! That happened) the goodness in the meatball bowl. Our entrees were all HUGE and we already knew when they came out they were not for onsite consumption (full AF) but for good orders sake we all made a good effort to eat some of it. My friend had chicken parm OMG that bad boy took up 3/4 of the plate & looked perfectly evenly pounded, breaded and sauces. He quite enjoyed it. Barely put a dent in it hut enjoyed. DH had meatballs & fettuccine & he rarely makes a fuss abt food (good or bad) & admit he thoroughly enjoyed it ... so greedy as we are and all being from NY - our friend was visiting we couldnt go to an Italian restaurant and not have dessert - enter disappointment. (Mine at least). I ordered the cannolis and while they were beautiful i expected something a little different. loved that there were 3 of them .. & 3 of us.. lived they were garnished w fresh berries (ya know less guilt about the calories) did jot love the cannoli filling tasted more like whipped cream than rich ricotta filling. And the cannoli shell was super delicate & quite frankly soggy on the bottom from the filling. Booo! I didnt mind the delicate shell (i though gourmet) but the whipped cream filling felt like a cop out for the price and the chocolate dipped cannoli ends was a nice touch but felt like bait & switch. Honestly wasnt the end of the world give the quality of my entree & app... so i chocked it up to no one is perfect. DH had tiramisu - no comment since its probably one of my least favorite desserts (i dont like coffee , espresso etc). He seemed to enjoy it which is a win. Prices were v reasonable and I would certainly go back ... my entree penne a la vodka w/Meatball - Was perfect. Chunks of garlic were sweet, The pasta was perfectly cooked the vodka sauce was spot on & fresh herbs with freshly grated parmesan was like a party in my mouth.. Rock on marcella.
