I give a one star because their ice cream is delicious but I've never had a decent customer service experience here. Upon my last arrival they closed the window on us when we asked for a napkin due to ice cream being all over my cup. I then discovered that they had given my drink to me with a cracked cup. WHAT A MISTAKE. Wow! I should have looked at the reviews first. Most reviews of this place complain about how dirty it is. This is no exaggeration. The floors are filthy, The tables are filthy. The bench is filthy. Everything is filthy. It really makes me wonder how dirty the utensils are they are scooping ice cream with?? I'm telling you, pass this place up. Unfortunately, I didn't really notice the filth until after I ordered and started eating the ice cream or I would have turned around and left. To top it off, the spoon I was given to eat my cup of ice cream with was so flimsy I could hardly pick up the ice cream. This specific location is a disgrace to the Marble Slab name. I cannot believe the Lufkin Health Department has allowed them to stay open. YYYUUKKKKKKKK! Please take the time to look at my pictures. To top it off, I thought the lights were flickering inside. No. Believe it or not, they have ceiling fans mounted in places that the blades are turning in front of the canned lighting in the ceiling. It gives the place a disco feel. Popped in on an out of town visit. Spouse and I both ended up settling on cinnamon ice cream with mixins - he opted for a chocolate bar, I for fruit and almonds. You HAVE to try the cinnamon ice cream!! Hands down one of the best decisions I made at an ice cream shop. I was a little disappointed with the lack of fruit add-ins which means they probably can't make most of the shakes available on the display, but settling for raspberry over strawberry wasn't the end of the world. Could've mixed my ice cream a bit better and smiled a little more - but the customer service wasn't dreadful. They do offer military discounts which was a plus for us! We are not from Lufkin so we don't come here often at all. The two times we have been they have been out of items and once forgot to mix in something that was ordered. Dirty dirty dirty!! we arrived before noon on a weekday, so we figured we were possibly the first patrons of the day. The floors, tables& bench seating was dirty and sticky. No restroom. No water fountain. Bottled water and sodas are available for purchase. The service was poor. This is a fairly small place with a long built in bench with small tables and chairs. Went to this place with my family and loved it. It's so nice that they finally moved back to their original location. I love the smaller, cozy location. They have inside seating but I prefer the the covered patio seating that they have outside with the LED lights. I saw that a lot of people take also use their drive-thru as well. When I went the store was really nice and clean and the staff were really professional and polite. They have a great selection of ice creams ans also have yogurts as well as sorbets. I had a shake and my wife and son shared a banana split. We all loved our treat. When we were inside the store we were speaking with the girl making the fresh cones and she told us that they make all the ice cream inside their store fresh a few times a week in small batches. We had such a fun experience at this location and we can't wait to go back. We loved how they have all the candy displayed in the when you walk in surrounded by LED lights. I'd give this location a 1/2 star if possible. Store is dark and tables were filthy. Staff is colder than the ice cream. Come on. It's ice cream. Everybody has fun or is in a good mood when they are getting ice cream. And what is up with the portion policy? If someone wants a small portion - child size - sell it to them. I found the ice cream just to be...okay. Nothing special really, but I might just be spoiled by Blue-Bell or Coldstone. The brownies were kind of tough, but all of the other standard candy/add-ons were good. I had the chocolate ice cream, which wasn't bad. I just wasn't really impressed. Ice cream is okay but it's really aggravating when you order a certain kind of candy and all you get is the grit that's left over in the bottom of the container that SHOULD'VE been thrown out. I'd rather not pay $10 for grit. read more
