The girl in the pink hat and glasses took my order and made my order. She did an excellent job! I love coming to La Bonita.

We have been to Tsubaki probably 5 times and we have loved it each time. The food has always been…read moregreat on the dine in side we haven't tried the hibachi side yet but we will. The sushi is always fresh and not fishy, soft shell crab is never pungent and always fresh tasting! Bento boxes are a great deal, the noodles are really good from the side dish noodles to the udon! The drinks have always been cold and tasty especially the last one I got which was the Scorpion Bolw! It was huge and very tasty, even comes out on fire! The service is usually pretty good but sometimes the waitresses disappear for a while but everyone there is always willing to help. The building is definitely a bit older and we'll kept inside, tables are clean and covered with fresh paper between guests, the sushi bar is nice with no weird bar smells and the bathrooms have been decent. We will continue to go to Tsubaki as it has become one of our favs here in Lufkin.

It's Friday , I'm off, and I was feeling adventurous!! Well, I popped in at 2:30 in the afternoon, and it was pretty quiet, with only myself and two others there, which would have given me cause to pause had this been a Houston Japanese bar, but this IS Lufkin yall, so I wasn't gonna jump to conclusions regarding the sparseness of patrons. I went straight to the bar and started trying to place my order. Unfortunate for me it was a very young, and brand new waitress helping me who had ZERO familiarity with anything on the nigiri menu , which is what I wanted, nor did she even know what nigiri meant as opposed to sashimi or maki rolls and I had to explain to her what a hot saki was when trying to order my drink.. ( bummer) But I was patient with her and she was trying , and was overall a sweet girl, so I just pushed through.. At any rate, the food finally was prepared by the sushi chef who was there behind the bar, who was not very friendly considering he was not busy at all and I was the only person sitting at the bar, but to his credit he wasn't rude either, and he did manage a smile my way. The sushi was very average , but it was edible and overall fresh, not fishy or blah, which I was happy at least for that , however there were no premium selections of fish available, ie; blue fin tuna, fatty tuna, king salmon, or uni options.. But I won't be too hard on them because I'm pretty sure they get more requests for there cooked options from the kitchen , which were endless by the way, and their selection of maki rolls, more than anything else, making there nigiri options an outlier. So I gave 3 out of five stars..

It was quite busy during our visit, and we kept hearing staff apologize for delays, but we decided to order anyway. For our first round, we ordered edamame, soup, and a few rolls. The soup arrived first -- it was okay but lacked flavor, and unfortunately, they didn't have white pepper when we asked. The avocado roll came next; it was fresh and tasted good. The California roll followed and was also fresh, though it tasted almost identical to the avocado roll. Next, we tried the soft-shell crab roll. It looked great but had a very fishy taste and an unusual amount of lettuce inside, which felt a bit off. We also ordered a chicken tempura roll, which took about 15 minutes to arrive. It was hot and freshly made, but honestly, a little underwhelming in flavor. On the positive side, our server was quick, polite, and attentive throughout the meal. The food was very affordable and filling, which was a nice surprise. Overall, it was a decent experience, but we'll probably check out some other sushi spots in town before returning.

We are big sushi eaters, and are always looking to try a new place. It's not a "fancy" Asian restaurant, but quaint and clean. We were greeted and seated right away, and our server was very polite. The menus, table and booth were clean. Nothing sticky, thank goodness. Nice and quiet also. It's nice to be able to hear each other talk for a change. The prices are very fair for the portion size, and the food came out fast. We ordered raw sushi and hot food. The sushi was well made, and fish cut properly-not paper thin like other places tend to do. Good sized, proper portions. The ponzu sauce was really good, and I am picky about that, not too tart or too sweet. The hot dish was the human style Chicken and shrimp, which was just right. Not too spicy, and picture perfect. It definitely had NOT sat under a heat lamp, and was extremely fresh and very delicious! The sushi entree came with soup and we chose the hot and sour. Now, that is one of my most favorite soups, and they got it right. Best hot and sour soup I have ever had. In all, we give it 5 stars all the way around. I do not know why this place wasn't packed on a Saturday night. We are from Tyler, and they have some great Asian restaurants there-this one absolutely would make it in Tyler and that says a lot. I hope this review helps to bring them more customers! Thanks for a nice date night! We will be back.

Chicken was good 8/10 super fresh and crunchy. No complaints Rice was 4/10. Not cooked to order and lacked flavor of the typical Asian rice you normally see. Soup or salad? 0/10 because I didn't receive either. When I ask the server about either. He replied. "Oh I thought you didn't want it" excuse me sir I've never met you before. You don't know what I want and plus I paid my money for one or the other. So that in itself is out of line. To got tempura shrimp roll. That usually consist of shrimp rice and nori. And sometimes cucumber. This monstrosity consisted of a baby shrimp piece cucumber rice nori and imitation crab???? And iceberg lettuce? That is insane. They added all of those extra things to skimp out on the shrimp so that is a never buy again dish. The decor could be updated but the environment was your typical run of the mill mom and pop place so no shame. Service 1/10 this man didn't even offer the soup or salad. All in all. I will definitely not return. Spent 16.75
