Best sushi you will find in Nacogdoches ... Doesn't mean that it's top notch .. Just better than the other selections (which isn't much). It allows customers to BYOB So that's nice.

Great sushi and fried rice for a small town. Reasonable prices. Especially during lunch as well.

A good stop while traveling through. Thanks Yelp for the tip! Lunch special runs through 3 PM. Luck is we arrived at 2:50 ;-) Amazingly busy for 3 PM. My favorite we got was the crab roll I think. Crab, avocado and rice - I'm pretty basic. But my sushi loving friend seemed to be pleased as well. A lot of food for $30 - I think 4 rolls 2 soups and a hibachi chicken meal... Nice & clean restrooms too.

I love Nijiya. The place is very nice so I don't feel weird if I dress up a bit. Their shrimp tempura appetizers are to die for and their sushi rolls are great. They have a hibachi section in the back if you prefer to see them prepare, cook and all. The staff is very friendly and nice too.

The sushi is always fresh and not fishy, soft shell crab is never pungent and always fresh tasting! Bento boxes are a great deal, the noodles are really good from the side dish noodles to the udon! The drinks have always been cold and tasty especially the last one I got which was the Scorpion Bolw! It was huge and very tasty, even comes out on fire! The service is usually pretty good but sometimes the waitresses disappear for a while but everyone there is always willing to help. The building is definitely a bit older and we'll kept inside, tables are clean and covered with fresh paper between guests, the sushi bar is nice with no weird bar smells and the bathrooms have been decent. We will continue to go to Tsubaki as it has become one of our favs here in Lufkin.

It's Friday , I'm off, and I was feeling adventurous!! Well, I popped in at 2:30 in the afternoon, and it was pretty quiet, with only myself and two others there, which would have given me cause to pause had this been a Houston Japanese bar, but this IS Lufkin yall, so I wasn't gonna jump to conclusions regarding the sparseness of patrons. I went straight to the bar and started trying to place my order. Unfortunate for me it was a very young, and brand new waitress helping me who had ZERO familiarity with anything on the nigiri menu , which is what I wanted, nor did she even know what nigiri meant as opposed to sashimi or maki rolls and I had to explain to her what a hot saki was when trying to order my drink.. ( bummer) But I was patient with her and she was trying , and was overall a sweet girl, so I just pushed through.. At any rate, the food finally was prepared by the sushi chef who was there behind the bar, who was not very friendly considering he was not busy at all and I was the only person sitting at the bar, but to his credit he wasn't rude either, and he did manage a smile my way. The sushi was very average , but it was edible and overall fresh, not fishy or blah, which I was happy at least for that , however there were no premium selections of fish available, ie; blue fin tuna, fatty tuna, king salmon, or uni options.. But I won't be too hard on them because I'm pretty sure they get more requests for there cooked options from the kitchen , which were endless by the way, and their selection of maki rolls, more than anything else, making there nigiri options an outlier. So I gave 3 out of five stars..

The walls were decorated with regular and lenticular posters for a number of different shows. We were greeted warmly and got to select our own table, which had baskets of chopsticks as well as flatware to choose from, along with a roll of paper towels. The menu featured a greater variety than I expected; in addition to nine different bowls of ramen, there was a whole page of mazemen (like ramen but without the broth), several kinds of fried rice, and other selections. I got an appetizer of pork belly bao, which turned out to be two little sandwiches generously stuffed with cabbage, sliced cucumber, mayonnaise and something like hoisin and (of course) pork belly--so good! My partner got pork gyoza and gave me one--super tasty and done exactly as requested. For entrees, he got the Tonkatsu Ramen (#3 on the menu. I tried a bite and loved the flavor; he finished every drop. I had shrimp fried rice, which turned out to be a humongous portion including more and larger shrimp than I expected. I also want to mention that our waiter brought me a fresh glass of soda before I finished the one I was drinking--much appreciated! I never had to sit thirstily waiting for a refill. Highly recommended if you like anime--or ramen--or a good experience!

This a a very cute and comfy location located in the shopping district on Tulane ave. and the freeway. Waitstaff was very accommodating and friendly, however the sushi was very very average, if not slightly below, at least measured by the nigiri that I ordered. Hey, I won't judge them too harshly I suppose because Lufkin is landlocked and not exactly where one would expect to have access to very fresh sushi in Texas, as compared to Houston. If your are a roll lover, and not favoring nigiri or sashimi, this may be your spot. I found the free sample piece of the DiDi roll , which had cream cheese, crawfish tail, and imitation crab to be the best bite out of my meal. I ordered hamachi nigiri, tako nigiri, and 1 spicy tuna hadroll, along with an order of calamari, and the calamari was probably the worst I ever had at any restaurant and it was fried, with what seemed to be an onion ring batter. I still gave it 3 stars because of service, location, and very good hot saki and that frees DiDi sample.

It was quite busy during our visit, and we kept hearing staff apologize for delays, but we decided to order anyway. For our first round, we ordered edamame, soup, and a few rolls. The soup arrived first -- it was okay but lacked flavor, and unfortunately, they didn't have white pepper when we asked. The avocado roll came next; it was fresh and tasted good. The California roll followed and was also fresh, though it tasted almost identical to the avocado roll. Next, we tried the soft-shell crab roll. It looked great but had a very fishy taste and an unusual amount of lettuce inside, which felt a bit off. We also ordered a chicken tempura roll, which took about 15 minutes to arrive. It was hot and freshly made, but honestly, a little underwhelming in flavor. On the positive side, our server was quick, polite, and attentive throughout the meal. The food was very affordable and filling, which was a nice surprise. Overall, it was a decent experience, but we'll probably check out some other sushi spots in town before returning.
