As soon as I walked in, I knew I loved this place! A giant Naruto poster on fabric greeted my eyes straight ahead, while Full Metal Alchemist was playing silently with subtitles on one tv, and another anime I didn't recognize was playing on the other. The walls were decorated with regular and lenticular posters for a number of different shows. We were greeted warmly and got to select our own table, which had baskets of chopsticks as well as flatware to choose from, along with a roll of paper towels. The menu featured a greater variety than I expected; in addition to nine different bowls of ramen, there was a whole page of mazemen (like ramen but without the broth), several kinds of fried rice, and other selections. I got an appetizer of pork belly bao, which turned out to be two little sandwiches generously stuffed with cabbage, sliced cucumber, mayonnaise and something like hoisin and (of course) pork belly--so good! My partner got pork gyoza and gave me one--super tasty and done exactly as requested. For entrees, he got the Tonkatsu Ramen (#3 on the menu. I tried a bite and loved the flavor; he finished every drop. I had shrimp fried rice, which turned out to be a humongous portion including more and larger shrimp than I expected. I also want to mention that our waiter brought me a fresh glass of soda before I finished the one I was drinking--much appreciated! I never had to sit thirstily waiting for a refill. She was so friendly and upbeat, made the experience that much better, wish I'd gotten her name. For appetizers me and friend got Pork rolls and Bao Buns. I could've gone for a few hundred more Bao Buns (slight complain was that the buns weren't as soft and fresh) I went with Death Ramen - - This ramen goes all the way to level 10 on spiciness. I thought I could handle level 3 but thankfully the server warned me and I got 2 instead. Be warned that if you get a level that is too spicy, you will not be refunded. Broth was flavorful, had me break a sweat and had my nose runny lol (no complaint there lol) Ramen was tender and they give you a decent amount. Still coming on a regular basis, love the pork yakisoba ... if you haven't tried it you definitely should.

tl;dr, the best of the East Texas ramen shops (1. Ramen Saikou in Longview; 2. Ichiban Ramen in Tyler; 3. Mikoto in Tyler). I tried chicken (aka tori chintan with shoyu [soy sauce] tare), pork (tonkotsu with shio [salt] tare) and brisket (also tonkotsu with shio tare but brisket instead of char siu meat...it's not a beef-based broth). Chicken - The broth is very flavorful. You can taste a distinct chicken flavor with charred and fresh aromatics. The shoyu tare doesn't overpower the broth and it's very well balanced and you can taste the different components. Wavy noodles were firm (the way I like it) with kikurage (wood ear fungus), bean sprouts, green onions, nori (seaweed sheet) and half a seasoned soft boiled egg. It comes with two slices of sous vide chicken breast. The chicken being cooked sous vide makes it super tender and moist. It absorbs the broth flavor well. Pork - Basically the same comment as above. Very flavorful and balanced because you can taste the different aromatics along with the pork. I typically prefer a stronger/richer pork flavor with thick milky broth. My favorite versions are either the super rich liquified pig kind with heavy garlic and a layer of fat on top (this is the kind I usually get when I'm in Torrance, CA aka lil' Japan, visiting family) or rich with strong katsuoboshi (smoked fish) flavor like the kind that you can get at Wabi House in Dallas. Ramen Saikou's is a less rich variation but I really like it alot because there are more dimensions to the flavor. I couldn't stop drinking the broth, even though I'm normally not a broth drinker since it takes up stomach space that could otherwise be occupied by more food. Their broth is actually better than some of the shops I've had in Torrance, which says a lot since there's no shortage of authentic Japanese food there. The two slices of charsiu had the right amount of torch char, acceptable thickness, and good ratio of meat to fat. The brisket was tender but I definitely prefered the pork. The noodles were the straight kind and were also firm. Instead of driving two hours to Dallas from Tyler, I can just drive an hour to Longview for excellent ramen. Still worth it even though there are two shops within 15 minutes of me. I'll definitely be back more regularly. If you've never had real ramen and you're closer to Longview than Dallas, check this place out. read more

After being to this place more than once a month over the last 3ish years, i can definitely say this place is the best ramen ive ever had. I always get the tonkotsu with added spicy and siracha and it never fails to fill me up. The servers there are always so nice even when they are super busy. Finally, they have two tvs showing anime and cartoons and plenty of anime posters that give the place a very nice, casual feel. Our guest with us today got the Shoyo Ramen and really liked it. I got the Naruto Ramen and "J" got the Tonkotsu Ramen and we both liked ours a lot but he says his could have been spicier. We started off with some egg rolls, pork, and these were some of our favorite ever! The pot stickers we saw on another table looked good. If you want cold ramen and bad service this is the place to go! When we went to Ramen Saiko there were only 3 other tables, so we thought the food wouldn't take too long. Boyyy were we wrong. The waiter took forever to take our order (15 minutes after we walked in) and the food took 3 times that. Finally when the food arrived the soup was lukewarm at best. The kids meal chicken was burnt, and fries were cold. We took 2 bites quickly paid and left. We've been looking forward to their opening for some time. Finally went to their soft opening and the food was delicious. They truly have an offering for all ramen lovers as well as those picky kids. I've heard the Bao buns are delicious and look forward to trying them soon. The night of the soft opening, standing room only for waiting and out the door, they were sadly out. But we will be back. Brisket Ramen WOW! If I could give more stars I would! This is one of my favorite places to eat in town! I've had the brisket ramen and the tonkostu ramen and both were amazing! The broth is deep and flavorful as well as creamy. The noodles are thick and the meat is tender as all get-out! I highly recommend this place if you're looking for some comfort soup! The atmosphere is dark and sometimes cold but the dim lighting and tinted windows makes a very unique atmosphere that feels cozy. The workers are very nice and overall the restaurant is very clean and well kept! It's a lovely hole-in-the-wall establishment that would be a shame to be overlooked. Oh! Really nice having a Ramen Restaurant in Longview. My wife had the shoyu ramen and gyoza, she really enjoyed it. I had the tonkotsu ramen. It was good, but it didn't have that milky lip smacking porkiness I usually associate with Tonkotsu broth that has been simmering for hours, but that might be because they just opened and still working things out. If you were hoping for a cheap bowl ramen that you used to eat in college, this isn't it. The ramen here has greater depth and Saikou pays a lot of attention to the details. $9 or $10 a bowl is pretty average around Dallas so this is right in line. Give it a chance it may surprise you. And if you are wondering why I didn't give them a 5 stars, it's because they are still working out kinks. They were out of bao buns and takoyaki the last time I was there. A friend and I stopped in to try their ramen. We both got the shoyu ramen with spice. I also ordered combination egg rolls which is pork, shrimp, and cabbage. The egg rolls were smaller than I would have liked but really good. I would order them again. The shoyu ramen was ok. It was little bland and I would have liked it to be more flavorful.
