These guys were great! We had a pretty big / complex move that involved moving some of our stuff to temp facility and storage while our house was being built. We got quotes from 4 companies. Marathon was neither the highest nor the lowest. However, they were best value. Lucas was our sales rep and went above and beyond to meet out needs. James was the crew leader. He communicated well with me and his whole team. I hope I never have to move again, but if I did I would be sure to use these guys!!! read more

I recently used Marathon Moving for a local move (less than 10 miles). After researching moving companies, getting multiple estimates and finally deciding on Marathon I was gearing up for the big move day. Let me preface this by saying that I am Type A and EXTREMELY picky when it comes to things like this. My previous moves were extremely stressful and I was expecting the worst but hoping for the best. I COULD NOT HAVE HAD A BETTER EXPERIENCE THAN WITH MARATHON MOVERS. Prior to the move, a representative came out (the OWNER, Paul! Because the rep that normally would do an estimate was already booked) to my home, took an assessment of the furniture and gave a solid estimate. He encouraged using a team of three movers rather than two. At first I didn't really understand, but he explained how this allows the team to move with speed so there is no lag time. On the day of the move, I could see why he suggested this setup: Although two movers would have cost less PER HOUR, the three movers were an amazing team where one guy would be wrapping furniture while two others loaded it in the truck. They were able to finish faster than a team of two and wound up SAVING ME MONEY AND TIME! They arrived promptly with smiles on their faces in the morning calling me when they were at my building. They all introduced themselves by name, shook my hand and did the same with my wife. Having spoken with the owner and knowing that these are not simply guys he finds on craigslist, but FULL TIME employees that have benefits, are paid a good wage and also are subject to random drug testing I already was at ease with them handling my furniture and being in my new home. They asked all the right questions, moved with speed without sacrificing safety of my items, the homes/doorways or personal safety. When they arrived at my new home, they IMMEDIATELY moved a fridge that was on my porch to the garage per my request (new fridge is being delivered on Saturday but I wanted the old one out and in garage to put some perishables in for the next three days while we wait). Then they took a quick tour of the property and began the move in process making sure to handle every piece with care, protecting my newly refinished floor, covering all banisters etc. They did not rush me when I walked around inspecting the furniture to ensure there was no damage in the move process and even took the time to lift up the mattress so that the bed skirts could be put on (ANOTHER great suggestion from the owner, Paul that no other moving company I talked to ever mentioned!). The three guys were absolutely amazing and came in UNDER the estimated time and saved me money! I cannot say enough great things about Marathon Movers. I don't plan on moving again anytime soon but will surely use them again and recommend them without hesitation to anyone that may be in the market. Paul is the owner and will personally take your calls. Lucas coordinated the move and helped when I needed to change the date. I cannot remember the names of the three guys who did my specific move (I had a lot on my mind--sorry!) but I am SURE that if all of Paul's employees are even close in their professionalism, courtesy, work ethic and manners they will be just as good! read more

We used Marathon for a move across states that included placing a large amount of things into storage for a couple of months. These guys were professional and hard working at all times. They helped us pack some loose items remaining in the old house...and they helped assembled some furniture when we arrived at our new house. An example of the above and beyond is they took a couple of doors out temporarily to help facilitate getting things through...and then replaced the door when they were finished. Movers were all younger guys. Very polite. Showed up on time. My furniture had some minor dings/scratches, they gouged/scratched up the ceiling/walls in the house I was moving out of and completely ruined (dented, scratched, lost parts, etc.) my new refrigerator -the lead mover said "things get damaged when you move...." So, my advice is BUY THE INSURANCE!! I'm glad I did. read more

I have nothing but good things to say about Marathon Moving. The customer service representative was great and set everything up to move out of my apartment at the end of August. The movers arrived on time and moved everything efficiently and safely, even with my mom talking their ears off! I was trying to buy a house, so I ended up having to leave my stuff with them in storage for a little over a month. No complaints on that end. The only thing that kind stunk was their schedule filled up so quickly that I had to wait a few extra days in before I could move my stuff into the new house. The move into the new house on 9/30 went great as well. Again, they showed up on time and got everything in. They even put the bed together and made sure all the furniture was in a place that I would like! I am someone who moves very infrequently. When I was looking for a mover, I did a generic Google search and found a highly rated company in Cambridge. But I was moving from Weymouth to Randolph and as they told me, my moving costs would be higher because of travel time. When I asked if they knew of someone in Randolph, they told me they had heard good things about Marathon Moving. Those good things are deserved. On a snowy day, their team showed up on time, as scheduled. Living in Weymouth in an apartment on the 6th floor with a very small and very slow elevator, I was concerned about the process for the move. First they wrapped everything. Carefully and quickly. Then, they neatly organized the items in the hallway, not blocking access for the other tenants. And they showed great consideration for the other tenants by not tieing up the elevator. When ready, they then quickly brought the items downstairs and loaded the truck. All without disrupting others while still taking good care of my items. At the new apartment, they showed equal care to my new neighbors. They had ideas to help me move the items in the room (who knew they would understand feng shui?). They left, completing the job done quickly, properly and at less than the original quote. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Marathon Moving to anyone. Period. read more

Some items went into storage, some items were moved into the apartment. Last week they moved us out of the apartment and out of storage into our house. Each time they moved us it was a pleasure, painless and easy. Don't use Marathon Moving, I have never dealt with such an unprofessional organization. Here is what happened to my cross country Full Pack move from Boston to Milwaukee: Kathy, the "move coordinator," spent over an hour and a half at my 2 story house with basement to detail the packing required. I had packed 30 boxes of fragile items, they were stacked in the basement and she counted the boxes. Every other room was to be packed. I got 3 separate estimates from her, only the final one was the "correct" one. But I felt confident they would give me good service for a reasonable price. The day before the move she could not tell me when the movers were to show up for an AM Packing and PM Loading move until the day of the move - at 10am when she reported they would be there within an hour. The moving truck arrived at 11 am with 4 crew to do a "Fragile Pack" and Load - totally the opposite of my contract. There were no packers. The moving van manager (from another Stephens affiliate) told me that miscommunication always happens with Marathon. Marathon had 2 packers arrive 1 1/2 hours later, and the loaders were given clearance to pack as well since time was short, but they did minimal packing. The Marathon packers asked in each room what was to be packed, and I had to tell them - at least twice per room - that EVERYTHING was to be packed. In the end they missed a closet and 4 drawers. The loaders transported furniture between the shuttle and the 18 wheel moving van since it was not allowed on my street. The first two trips took an hour and the third trip 3 hrs. When I asked what had taken so long they said they had GONE HOME to wait for the packers to finish!! Unbelievable!!! So the final loading ended at 9:30 at night. I called Kathy to tell her how upset I was that everything seemed to go wrong and she never even called me back. A week later when I called to find out what time the movers were delivering on July 5th or 6th, Bob from Marathon told me it was scheduled for the 7th (my contract stipulated that I would be out of town on the 7th at a conference and that the 6th was the latest they could deliver)! AGAIN another SCREW UP. Unfortunately I had to deal with Kathy again who talked to dispatch and said he would make sure the delivery happened at 8am on the 7th, giving me time to catch a plane for a 4 day conference. NOW tonight the van driver called to say he was delivering about 11:30 am - and he had had no communication from Marathon or dispatch that he was to be here at 8am. In fact his dispatch told him tonight that I had to take it or leave it, or they would just leave the furniture on the street. Unbelievable again!!! So now I have to pay to change my flight, miss a day of the conference, and lose valuable time because Marathon and Stephens can't provide acceptable service. What a fiasco in the highest order. Now let's just see what the service is like tomorrow when they unload. I shudder to think it could even come close to professional. read more

BUYER BEWARE!!!! Like a previous reviewer, I can't stop thinking about how horrible my experience with Marathon was over a year ago. I decided I needed to let others know to hopefully save someone else the heartache. Moving is stressful so dealing with scam artists should be avoided at all costs. Here's a list of what happened to me: The gave me a written quote and then added charges to my credit card after the move without my approval. They told me my stuff would ship from the warehouse as soon as I called. Instead, I was living without my furniture for over a month because they wanted to save money and send it when they could fill the truck with other customer moves. I called everyday to get get someone to help and instead of being apologetic they were incredibly rude. They had my money and my things and knew there was nothing I could do. When my shipment finally arrived it was missing SEVERAL boxes. Including expensive oil paintings I collected from my trips abroad. Im sure the '5 star' reviews are fake since all of this can't be a one-off event. Do yourself a big favor and stay far away!! read more

I am so happy I came on yelp to find movers. I contacted Marathon Movers a couple of weeks before my mom which was cutting it a little close because I am typically a very proactive but life gets in the way. Anyways the day I needed was available everything went smooth, and it was very affordable! I needed help with my bed set and it was disassembled and assembled properly and I could not of asked for a better experience . I have moved 4x since 2011 and have used different movers each time. The piece I had moved was over 400 pounds and had to go down 4 flights of stairs. I don't know how the guys did it, but they managed. This was a very difficult move and other companies had rejected it. The men were very professional and personable and STRONG! They kept in excellent contact with me and arrived on time. Ours was a two destination move, one managed (fixed fee per hour) very proficiently, the other (long-haul charges by weight) a disaster from onset to completion. Unfortunately, you remember the bad experiences. We've moved 14 times, this experience was the worst. Seemed to be bait and switch on the quote, insufficient # of packers, a driver lacking communication skills, our property left in total disarray with packing materials and crew food and drink strewn throughout the house and in the yard as a result of the loading going into wee hours of the night. At the long-haul destination, 16 items/boxes lost, never to be found. Anxious to see if the claim process is also broken. read more

Joe and his team were at our home on time and got right to work, they wrapped up all the furniture in moving blankets and were very careful with everything. This was our first time using professional movers and I must have called a dozen places before deciding on Marathon. I am SO happy with the decision and can't say enough good things about our experience! I worked with Kathy beforehand, she provided me with a free quote over the phone and when I was nervous about getting an accurate quote she offered to come to the house and check out our inventory in person. She came the next day and provided another free, updated quote based on an inventory list she created by hand. Even with the additional time she anticipated based on what she saw, the quote was still below the competition. While we were preparing to move I was able to swing by the Randolph warehouse and borrow gently used boxes, I must have picked up $100 worth and it was all included in the service. I loved that they brought TV and wardrobe boxes on the day so we didn't need to worry about packing our closets or flat screens in advance. The movers (Steve, Matt, Marvin, Nate and John) were AMAZING. They arrived on time, were efficient, super respectful and took excellent care of our belongings. They moved us out and in in less time than quoted, saving us big bucks. I was amazed at how quickly they worked! Late in the game it was determined that we would have to store our things for 2 nights instead of just one before moving into our new place. Kathy was able to arrange this easily and was able to reserve the same team for both days (which came in very handy later on). Sheila, the office manager, was very responsive and kept us up to date on everything and quickly got us the final bill after the move. The service was great. They showed up when they said they would, and they were very efficient with the moving. They had quoted us 6.5 hours for a cross town move and it came in at 5.25. They largely took great care with our furniture; the only negative is that I have an old keyboard and the tolex covering developed a tear during the move. I think it fell over onto the ramp in the truck. Minor deal, and we'd definitely use them again regardless. read more

I have moved often and have had many successful moves, but no company has been as terrific as Marathon. This was a really complicated move, with all my stuff going into storage for a few months, then being delivered to two different addresses in two different states, and making two additional stops along the way to pick up more things going to the final destination. There were so many possible places for errors, and all went perfectly. I had them pack a pottery collection of over 100 pieces and many framed paintings, and OMG everything arrived perfectly. When I realized I had some furniture in their storage facility that I wasn't going to be able to fit in my new place, they took it out and donated it to a local charity for me, delivering it at no extra charge. The movers were all permanent staff, not pick-ups, well trained, and incredibly professional. The same person who led the moving team on the front end, moving into storage, led the team on the back end, moving into my new place. Every single person I dealt with was professional, on top of the details, considerate, and definitely prepared to do all kinds of extras to make sure everything went smoothly. I had used a different mover for my last three moves and gave Marathon a try because a friend recommended them so highly. They were better and even lower cost than my former "high end" mover. And when my daughter, who lives in another state, needed a mover, Marathon recommended one of their affiliates near her, and they were great and she had her best move ever. WARNING TO ANYONE USING MARATHON MOVERS IN CANTON, MA. to move anything. I hired them to move me back to Boston and they moved me out to Cleveland with no problem. They assured me they would move me back the same way. Well they never told me that they were hiring movers from Columbus that they didn't even know. They hired some clowns from Allied Van Lines and they damaged over $49,000 of my custom made furniture. Lucas McGary is the guy at Marathon who told me he would personally take care of the claim with Allied. I just received a letter from Allied that they determined a fair amount to pay me would me $3,875.00 for all the damage they had done. Not only did they send my furniture in two different trucks a week apart from delivery, but the guys who moved it started doing the damage right from the start in Cleveland. I called the company to complain and they said to wait til it arrived back in Massachusetts. The second batch of furniture came just as damaged as the first truck load. One of the movers on the second truckload was a very nice young man who told me as he was carrying it into my home that he's never seen so much destruction to someones property. Then he said his parents wouldn't be very happy about this. He said his parents owned Marathon Movers! And now Marathon seems to have just wiped their hands clean of the whole situation. I never hired Allied in Columbus. I wrote the check out for the move to Marathon Movers. Seems it was a bait and switch move on Marathon's part. Time to have my attorney step in and handle this for me. I'm so tired of people taking my money and then not delivering what you pay them to do. read more

Marathon Moving in cooperation with Stevens Van Lines and E.W.Grenon & Son Inc. moved our household from Massachusetts to Colorado. Our contract was with Marathon. They were not the lowest bidder for the job. We hired them to pack our breakables (we packed all the rest), to load all items, move them 2,000 miles, and unload at the destination. (1) We were very happy with the two guys who packed our breakables; they were very friendly and also gave us advice on how to pack the not so fragile stuff. That's how they earned the single star - otherwise it would be zero stars. (2) The guys who loaded our items on moving day did not care for our belongings, and also not for the house we were moving out of. They were also not smart e.g. instead of using the bulkhead they brought stuff up the stairs and through the house. While we were watching items were dropped, run into walls and doors, dragged across hardwood floors, etc. I had to help with disassembling furniture because the guy doing it used pliers instead of wrenches and had no clue how a bed comes apart. While they were still loading we immediately filed a claim with them for the damage done to the house. We were horrified by the experience. (3) The delivery window were were given was between 7 days to 14 days after pickup. We were lied to multiple times regarding the delivery date (in a couple of days, tomorrow, technical issues with truck, driver exceeded their time, etc.) and it turned out that even after the last day of the delivery window had passed our belongings were still in a warehouse in Massachusetts. We finally received our shipment 5 days after the end of the delivery window and a total 19 days after they had picked it up. (4) The guys who unloaded our items were friendly, but not professional. (5) A total of five items were damaged including a total loss. Several cardboard boxes had fallen apart and were held together by packing tape. Most wardrobes were literally crushed. We received monetary compensation for the damage done to the house, for the delay, and for the damage done to the five items. Four of those were repaired which we had to organize ourselves and finally 4 months after the move we had everything together and behind us. There is no way that the things that went wrong were random occurrences. They were one hundred percent preventable. I have no idea how Marathon Moving can stay in business operating like that. read more
