Hopefully everyone reads Yelp reviews at this point, sure wish I had. If I could give a negative…read morestar rating I would. This company was recommended to me by our realtor when closing on a house last year. The necessary repairs were made but Bruce never returned to finish the weatherizing of our chimney exterior. He was paid $485 to do that by the seller and never returned. It's been over a year now and I haven't been able to get a response from Bruce to the multiple voice mails and text messages sent to him. Not surprisingly his email listed through the business is inoperable.... I will be contacting the Contractors State Board and filing a complaint and encourage the others who have experienced the same lack of professionalism and ethics to do the same.

They did sweep the chimney, probably because we were standing right there. I also paid him $145 to install a new chimney cap. It's February now. Still waiting for the chimney cap. I and my family members have called the owner of Ashes to Ashes many times. Every time we reach him, he says "I'll install it tomorrow" or "I'll install it next week." Every time, he has failed to deliver on his promise. We've never received a call back when we've left a message. I called tonight to tell him we were reluctantly going to have to take him to Small Claims Court as my parents, who are 88 and 92, couldn't afford to just give him $145. He said he couldn't remember the job. I gave him the address. I asked him why he hadn't done the work. He said he couldn't say why. He said that if he hadn't installed the chimney cap this week to go ahead with the Small Claims Court claim. That's weird, to say the least. I won't be holding my breath to see if he follows through. After paying him (why did I wait until it was too late???) I looked up some of the reviews online. Hoo boy. They were bad. All 1-star except one where the reviewer obviously made a mistake. Oh...there was another one...by the owner of the company. He gave his own business 5-stars and said that the other reviewers had lied. Really. (Unfortunately this is the first review to go on Yelp. I didn't see the other bad reviews until it was too late.) Do NOT do business with this person. His business should be shut down. It's hard to believe this man would take advantage of elderly people. But he did. And he has done it before. Unfortunately, he'll probably do it again. Don't be one of his victims. Almost forgot to mention: Ashes to Ashes Better Business Bureau is "F".

We ordered a fireplace with installation and they provided a great list of plumbers and contractors for us to use for the gas line hook up. From start to finish they were professional. Are they expensive? Yes. It's a luxury mountain town, I get it. As I mentioned, I could browse their furnishings forever, they have so many great decor items from leather chairs, art, wind chimes and everything in between. I did notice that some prices are marked up, for example the hot tub cleaners and such. (Almost by double vs Amazon). Overall, a wonderful spot for your mountain home needs and gifts. If you are looking for a new fireplace/stove, I do not hesitate to recommend them.

Mountain Home Center sold two covers for the same property in Incline Village. Both failed prematurely. When we raised the issue, the company's president responded that "covers don't last long up here," that they sell "hundreds every year," and that owners should expect to replace covers every couple of years. In other words, they know these products aren't suitable for Tahoe conditions and sell them anyway. The cover sold was a residential foam-core model installed at ~7,500' elevation, exposed to high UV, snow load, and daily vacation-rental use. When it failed, the blame was shifted to "heavy use" and sanitizer levels--both completely foreseeable conditions. The problem isn't Tahoe. The problem is selling underspecified products and then disclaiming responsibility when they fail. There are heavy-duty covers available for this market. Mountain Home doesn't offer them. If you own or manage property here, proceed very carefully.
