I went to the mall to get a quick outfit for the night, I had no idea I would also partake in what I would say is the closest thing to a -real- homemade-style Cuban dinner. It's stfu good! Pardon my French but that's exactly what I said when i bit into the coal-grilled short rib appetizer. Wow, it immediately reminded me of the Hawaiian style short rib, little sweet but with a kick, and so so much flavor. The presentation is not just for show either, the hot coals keep the ribs nice and hot while you eat them. I almost wish I had one of these little grill boxes! But let me take a step back because I wouldn't explain the 5-star rating without mentioning the world-class service we received from the moment I walked up to the hostess stand to the moment we left. Extremely friendly and accommodating. We were seated in a nice clean table with a view. Our server, Johana, was the highlight of the night. Her spot-on suggestions and friendly personality made us feel like the guests of honor! She was the perfect combination of attentiveness without being intrusive. I never had to ask for anything, it was like she read my mind! Haha I also asked her tons of questions and she patiently answered then all with obvious thoughtfulness. My gf and I both agreed that she made our dinner a 5-star experience. Ok. So I mentioned the short rib app was amazing. So afterward, I ordered the vaca frita dinner and my gf the shrimp enchilada. The vaca frita was a very generous portion and it was indeed perfectly shredded and perfectly seasoned. The meat is tender and juicy and garlicky and citrusy and oniony... well...you get the point. Bite after bite of Cuban goodness. Of course mixing it with the fluffy rice and black beans. This hit the spot. My gf also loved the enchilada she ordered, which was more of a shrimp in red spicy sauce like a stew sorta. Either way the shrimp were nice size and good quality. The sauce was fresh spicy tomato seafood yummy-ness! It's not a Mexican enchilada which I didn't expect seeing that this is a Cuban place, but perhaps a warning would be good. Either way nobody will be disappointed. This dish is a winner. Overall this place really impressed me, especially the service. Lots of places in Miami take their customers for granted, this place clearly still knows that the magic is in making us have a great night. For our mom's birthday we wanted to find a nice restaurant in Brickell and heard many good things about Marabu located in the luxurious Brickell City Center. The ambience of Marabu is very modern with a touch of classic 1950s Havana. Our waitress was very sweet and quick with all the orders, she also suggested some items to try. Here the menu includes many popular Cuban dishes with a twist. For appetizers we ordered ham croquettes and tostones topped with ahi tuna. The croquettes were delicious nice and plump with a very creamy interior, while the tostone was perfectly fried and the ahi tuna was bursting with flavor. For the main entree we ordered their palomilla steak but instead of grilled it was coal fired and let me tell you it the juiciest and most flavorful steak I had in a while. When I heard that the steak was coal fired, I had my doubts but I made a good choice. The sides were also solid with white rice and delicious sweet plantains. For dessert we couldn't decided and ordered both their Nutella brownies and the cheese flans. Both were very good and provided the perfect sweet end to our meal. For the both the quality and quantity of what we ordered I found it to be a good bargain especially in such a posh setting. read more

We started with 2 ropa vieja empanadas and shared a madero en tentacion bananas with bacon & mozzarella roasted in a corn husk with a sweet sauce. We came here for some desserts after seeing raving reviews about this place. Food: we ordered the goat milk flan and Quattro leches. Both the desserts were amazing. The goat milk, flan had this interesting, salty and sweet taste. It was served with candied walnuts, and a nice mint leaf. Overall the flan was delicious, amazing texture, and perfect sweetness. Amongst the very good flans I have eaten. The Tres leches cake had an interesting Dulce de Leche ice cream and covered with meringue, which was torched. The cake was moist, the ice cream added an interesting touch. I loved the torched meringue. For me this dish was amazing. Both the desserts costed above $10. Service: service was prompt and nice. Cuban cuisine with an elevated flair! Flavors were spot on and THAT smokiness comes through in a perfect balance in the pork and salmon dishes we had. We loved the casava, rice and beans that came with our meals, they had a garlic essence that was something unexpected and delicious. "Glamorous mall dining" sounds like a 1980s LA phenomenon. I wouldn't know since I haven't researched the subject and never visited Los Angeles before this century. But as evidenced by Marabu and adjacent restaurants, "glamorous mall dining" is definitely a 2020s Miami phenemenon. On a Wednesday evening this place and the immediate area were hopping pretty good; the young and beautiful Miami folks were out in force. (An NBA Finals game a mile or so away may have juiced the neighborhood energy somewhat on this night.) And for early June in Miami, the weather was especially pleasant on the semi-open-to-the-elements top deck of this upscale mall. Very nice. So was the Cuban Old Fashioned, which was jacked not only with Wild Turkey but also, this being South Florida, with Havana Club (yeah, actually Puerto Rican) rum. Delicious and strong drink, and just about worth the $17 price tag. Marabu's tagline is "Cuban Coal-Fired Cuisine," and I always want to get grouper at least once when in Florida, so this sounded terrific. (That item is specifically from the "Josper grill.") And the plate that came out was terrific looking. But the fish seemed almost unseasoned, and it and the especially the shrimp that came with it were unfortunately quite overcooked. And unbeknownst to me beforehand, grouper has become much more expensive in recent years, apparently the reason for the disappointingly small portion. Side salad and black beans were fresh and tasty enough, but that's not what this $38 plate of food is about. Our server handled our big group well all evening, and it was indeed a nice evening. But the kitchen kinda fumbled away the main event. read more

We arrived to our movie at CMX a bit too early, so decided to pop in here for a quick happy hour beforehand. We were greeted at the bar with plantain chips to enjoy while we waited for our food. The decor is very cute with an old school cuban vibe. We ordered ropa vieja empanadas, tuna toston, and a daiquiri all from the happy hour menu. The empanadas were pretty tasty, but the plantains on the tuna toston were a bit dry and the tuna was slightly flavorless. I would not get these again.
