Ryan and the team at Maple Tree Cafe did an excellent job hosting a memorial luncheon for my Father on the day of his funeral. The ease of scheduling/confirming the details was so refreshing, the food was delicious and ready exactly at the right time, and the restaurant was clean, neat and very comfortable. Very reasonably priced as well. He also was able to use a thumb drive of a photo collage in memory of my Father to create a slide show on a large monitor which played throughout the lunch. Well took almost an hour for this place to figure out our bill... I don't think I've ever been so irritated with a waiter in my life. And I work in the service industry, I'm pretty sympathetic when I know someone is having a bad day. Not to mention he was rude, and treated us as if we were a hassle. My family had scheduled a lunch at the Maple Tree last week after my aunt's funeral. Ryan was tremendously accommodating working with my sister on the arrangements and timing. We showed up a half hour earlier and they were very flexible and were able push up the schedule. Ron and Jules, as well as Ryan, all jumped in to help with everything to make it a very nice event. My gin& tonic was served with flat tonic. No substitute was offered. And I got a mild case of vomiting and diarrhea from my wings. Not a good start... wings were probably a day past their serve date... Service was quick, friendly but vacuous. Still I go back and eat pizza and drink a beer at happy hour. No problems here. This place once was something special but since Dino gave up the reins it's had a string of mediocre management that, while going through the motions of managing a restaurant, takes no real pride in doing it. Checking another Simsbury restaurant off the list - Maple Tree Café is a fun place to come, nice atmosphere and great service (Thanks Ron!! =)). The food I got delish - Butternut Ravioli. I have been here for dinner twice. And thought this restaurant was excellent. I have lived in Tokyo and currently live in NYC, travelled all over Europe, Hong Kong, Seoul, etc and can tell you the quality here is excellent for the price. As expected since the head chef is a Michelin 2-star chef. Having been a CT resident in the past, still traveling to the area on business, I can safely say that any poor ratings must be based on the prior ownership or that your palate must be accustomed to bad american chain restaurants and pizza made with sauce from a jar. Sigh. I actually know the owners as well and they have very high expectations of both the food quality and their staff. The first time I was here we had the artichoke appetizer, mushroom pizza, filet mignon, and carrot cake. Everything was really delicious! I loved the mushroom pizza and carrot cake especially, which are both menu items I wouldn't normally order. The second time I was here was just for a quick early dinner - Margarita pizza! Haha still great! So glad I have a good go-to restaurant now when I'm in the area for work. Highly reccomend this restaurant! read more

My fiancé and I stopped into the Maple Tree for dinner last night and had a great meal. The decor and ambiance were good- the place seemed very clean and you can tell the locals must love it there. We got the fried asparagus appetizer which were delicious. Very crisp and had a flavorful dipping sauce. Our salads were very fresh. My fiancé got the scallops for the main course which she said were cooked perfectly. I got the chicken Sinatra that was tasty and a great portion for the price. One of the owners came by to ask how our meal was and he was very friendly. I highly recommend this place! read more

While it's rare for me to have Sundays off from work, occasional I do. Those rare Sundays are spent watching sports and eating some darn good food at the Maple Tree Cafe. Almost every Friday and Saturday night there is a band playing. People are nice, service with a smile all the time. read more

Meh. We chose this place for dinner on a Saturday night because our first choice was mobbed. We like to ask the servers for suggestions if it our first time visiting an eatery and our server was pretty wishy washy. He asked what we were in the mood for and I guess that is an appropriate way to say that they have a many different meals to choose from. I really enjoyed my arugula and pear salad. I have been eating here for years, through multiple owners. I have been ordering salmon on my salads for most of this time and under the current management the portion allotted for salads has shrunk from a size piece of meat to a strip of salmon this size of a piece of biscotti. read more

How do you like to be charged $10 for plain glass of water? Yes, it happened to me when I handed $20 bill to a bartender! I was given a handful of bills and who counts them at 10:30pm? I noticed that later by accident and talked to manager/owner Mike. He admitted that I should not been charged for water since my party and I were drinking wine at the bar. Solid place. Smelled very weird like cleaning products and had tons of butts and a beer outside at 12 on a Saturday. I thought it was going to be terrible because there was only one other person there. I think it more of a night place but lunch specials were huge and really good. We throughly enjoyed our evening at the Maple Tree Cafe. We came for the band and was hoping to have a decent meal. We sat at the bar. Lisa was the bartender and she was exceptional! (It got quite busy and she was the sole bartender and she did a phenomenal job!) she immediately asked us our names, which was really, really nice and welcoming. The food was also very, very good. We had the wings- very tasty....then the dinner salad with house salad dressing was yummy. I had a special- house made dried sausage with Broccoli rabe and cannellini beans over bow tie pasta - super good! My husband had a burger and he said it was the best ever. Food wasn't bad. The service was horrendous. We wanted to stay for the music at 9, so we explain that to our waiter. Well he paid no attention. Our salads came before the appetizers, and then before we were done with our appetizers our entrees arrived. We told her to take them back she looked at us like we were crazy. Although as I said earlier the food wasn't bad. The butternut squash ravioli was supposed to be in a brown butter sage sauce. The butter wasn't browned, it was just butter. Used to be one of my regular places. But I had a horible experience last weekend. First of all, I dont mind paying a cover but covers for females? I have never had to pay a cover charge for a date. Also, it seems as if if you were a hippie you get in for free. My biggest disapointment was the new drink prices. 13.00 for a small mixed drink and a coke? ridiculous. seeting is tough and the divider is aweful. Food isnt that good either. My family and I took my Mother to this restaurant today to celebrate Mother's Day. I had made reservations for 12:00 and arrived on time. There was no wait to get in and although there were several tables with large parties, it wasn't so busy that I suspected any issues with service. Our party of 5 was seated at a table for 4 with a promise to return with an extra chair. After 5 minutes of awkwardly standing at the table, I had to bother the poor bartender ( who was nothing but gracious and apologetic to us the entire ordeal ) for a chair. We then waited another 15 minutes before I once again approached the bartender to ask if we could get menus and drinks. It quickly became apparent that the restaurant was understaffed and very ill prepared for what is typically a busy day in most restaurants. A clearly rushed waitress came by about 15 minutes later to take our order. We then sat from 12:35 until 1:00 until another waitress stopped by to tell me it would be about 15 more minutes. At 1:15, another customer approached our table and told us that they had been there since 11:20 and had not been served yet. It was at this point, after an hour and 15 minute wait and no food in sight, that we left. Once again, the very gracious bartender apologized and said that our sodas and juice were on the house. She should be commended for providing great service in an otherwise horrible experience. Maybe this restaurant is good on a normal day, but I certainly would not go there on a special occasion such as today. I personally will never go back there or recommend them and the main reason why is this: not ONCE did manager or owner come over to us to apologize, explain the delay or even just check on the table. I think it is despicable that management would leave their young staff to have to deal with a restaurant full of unhappy patrons. The staff was clearly overwhelmed and I'm sure they lost the majority of their income for a very hard days work by people walking out or leaving poor tips because of the service. To me, that is a sign that management not only didn't care about the customer, but they also don't care about their own staff. I hope that in the future, the management of this restaurant will step up in a bad situation and work to help turn a poor experience into a more pleasant and understandable one for their customers. read more

We just moved to town. The atmosphere seemed great for our first visit. We sat outside on the patio. Our waitress was pleasant, but never served us more than one glass of water. The steak au poivre was okay. It was over cooked to medium well when ordered medium. The sauce and sautéed spinach and mushrooms saved the meal. The chicken Cobb salad was also just okay saved by the bacon. There were patrons on the deck where people were eating smoking cigarettes. It was disgusting. They had ashtrays, so it was obviously condoned by the restaurant. read more

We were hoping that this place would be a good, casual place that serves decent food. We went on a Sunday for lunch and the service was fine and the food was fine but nothing great. For example, the "home fries" that go with brunch options were cubed potatoes deep fried .... Aka French fries. Not exactly what you normally consider as home fries and it was fine just not great. read more

Had our wedding reception in the banquet room. Planning the whole wedding from the West Coast was difficult, but the entire staff at Maple Tree did EVERYTHING for me! Even went as far as to order & go pick up our wedding cake from a bakery across town. They had the room set up beautifully with our wedding colors. The food was a HIT & we hardly had any left overs even though we way over ordered! Every one of our wedding guests said how wonderful it was! I'm so sorry I live on the opposite coast or I would come back A LOT! Oh yeah, & when we came into a music emergency, the owner lent us his iPod docking station & saved the day!
