    We'll be back Monday!!!

Four of us came to the Maple Tree Cafe for dinner on a Friday evening, when a Talcott Mountain concert attracted almost everyone else in town. We were seated promptly, greeted, given regular, beverage and daily special menus. Maple tree used to be a dive bar that I frequented many many years ago...but has since greatly upgraded their atmosphere, bar, and food offerings. I ordered a cup of NE clam chowder, and their Fish n Chips - I've been having a fish jones for a while since our go-to place in Hartford closed last year. The chowder was decent, perhaps a bit on the thyme-y side, but still enjoyable. We also ordered a meatball appetizer, served with a ribbon of marinara sauce. Yum! My Fish n Chips hit the spot, with four nice-sized chunks of well-cooked fish on a bed of curly fries...all steaming hot. Served with Cole slaw and tartar sauce, it was quite satisfying. Our server and plate runners were both very nice, and responsive to our requests. All in all, a delightful evening. We shall return!

Patio lunch: great margs, not shabby sweet potato fries, and a nice Ruben! (Buttery and a little messy as it should be) and holds a crunch. Love this spot for live music and the bar, but 3 stars my for my partner getting sick from the cob salad with chicken afterwards. Everything else was good!

Had an AMAZING time at the Maple Tree Cafe tonight. Sat at the bar and was served by Ken who provided great conversation. Ordered fried mozzarella as an appetizer and had a chipotle chicken bacon panini, both were fantastic. My girlfriend ordered the pulled pork Mac and cheese which was also very good, and we shared a cheese pizza which is one of the best in the area. We left with plenty of leftovers. Drink menu had great depth, we will definitely be back!

Such a cozy atmosphere! I had the fried asparagus appetizer - SO good!!! The butternut ravioli was the best I have had. It felt like fall in a bowl! I tried the house G&T from the cocktail list and as a G&T fan, I absolutely loved it! Service was very prompt. I didn't feel like I waited long for anything. Staff was super friendly and accommodating. Everything from the dining hall to the bathroom was spotlessly clean. Went with some girlfriends and will definitely be going back with my husband!!! I am excited to try their brunch!

Had a nice lunch there today. The restaurant was pretty empty but the bar was very crowded with regulars on their barstools, ringing the bar like a picture frame. Its a pretty ambitious menu with nearly 20 appetizers ranging from inexpensive (garlic bread for $2) to wings (15 pcs for $13) and from the ordinary (fried mozzarella) to the unexpected (crab cakes). We had a Cobb Salad ($11) and a Chicken Quesadilla ($10). The salad was good, but in an average-good way. The Quesadilla was advertised as being served with sour cream, guacamole and salsa, but when it came out of the kitchen, the guac was missing. We asked the server about it, and she said that not everyone likes guac, so she doesn't bring it out unless it is specifically asked for.. Thats a minus one point. The salsa was fantastic, and when I mentioned to her that I liked it, she chimed in that it was home-made -- so they get that deducted point back. We asked for the leftover quesadillas to be boxed up, and when she brought them back from the kitchen, she said she added some extra guac for us. That's a bonus point. I checked out the dinner menu and saw a lot of chickens and veals and pastas and chops and seafood in the $13 - $20 range. Not cheap, but not out of this world high either. I might have to stop back on the way home from work on Thursday- in honor of the start of the baseball season, they have an Opening Day special-- $2 beers and you keep your Yankee or Red Sox glass. Now that's what I call Customer Service !!

Take advantage of this perfect summertime porch!

Excellent smoked salmon eggs Benedict with great tasty home fries! Great, enjoyable patio experience on a nice summer day for brunch! Definitely recommend!

Decent pub food. The outdoor patio is the draw, but with Amelia's now across the street, The Maple Tree would be the second choice.

While I was on the call with The Iron Horse staffer who checked if they could accommodate us, five more people said they wanted in. So, my party expanded to 20. The staffer said "No problem. See you at 8pm." Ninety minutes later, I called to update our numbers again, and we were up to 28. Ugh. The staff said, again, "No problem. See you at 8pm." A few more people heard of the gathering, so our total group was 32 people. With just a few hours notice. On a Saturday night. On Valentine's Day. That was the first bit of magic, and the waitstaff continued with friendly, fast, and accurate service of all the kids and parents. The final act was the food, which was outstanding. The portions were huge and delicious. (I had the wings, and "hot" was definitely hotter than most other places. So, order accordingly!) So, on behalf of our team, we wanted to extend an incredible "Thank you" to everyone at The Iron Horse and (in hockey terms) stick taps for an incredibly well done evening!

The parking lot was also spacious and easy to get in and out of. My family and I dined there on Saturday for lunch. The service was good too. I started off with a single size scorpion bowl; I liked the famous drink, it's fruity and tropical. My kids liked their plain lo-mein; it's also a huge portion with plenty leftover. We were hungry so we started off with the yellowtail and scallion sushi roll; it's super fresh and melted in my mouth good. They also serve fusion tacos; we opted for the teriyaki beef bao bun taco. This came with lettuce, bean sprouts, sesame seeds, scallions, ginger, and soy. I was a fan, but not sure if it's really fusion since it's just a regular bao bun with toppings. For my entree, I went for the classic, General Tso's chicken with white rice. The flavor was good! I liked that it had slices of zucchini, peppers, carrots, in a hot pepper tangy sauce. The portions were good too. They have an extensive menu with so many other food I want to try. From pad Thai, curry, teriyaki, to sushi; there is something for everyone. The cocktails were tasty sounding too. My family and I look forward to going back again.

The menu was bigger than I thought with a wide range of options to choose from tacos to sandwiches to burgers. It took a while for the appetizers and drinks to come out. The service was okay at best. There seemed to be only one server, and it even seemed like the chef was helping out deliver food, so it looked like they were understaffed. The server was very friendly though. For appetizers, two dozen wings ($22.95 each) were ordered. The honey mustard and Kentucky bourbon BBQ were the chosen sauces. The quality of wings were very good. They varied in size and were extremely crispy. They seemed to be double fried. The honey mustard sauce was flavorful. There was a little inconsistency with the amount of sauce, but not a huge deal. The Kentucky bourbon BBQ was an elevated BBQ sauce to me. There was a slight bourbon flavor, but nothing over powerful. For my meal, I had the squealer burger ($15.95). I opted for a side salad, which was terribly overdressed, which was unfortunate. The burger was a half pork, half beef burger with American cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, mustard, and mayo. The meat was cooked to my liking and there was an ideal ratio with the bread and filling. There was something salty about this burger, but I could not pinpoint what it was exactly. Overall, though, a satisfying burger. Will I go back? I would.

Other people in the party had eggplant Parmesan, which reportedly was terrific, chicken Parmesan that was cooked beautifully with lots of grilled chicken a lovely marinara that was topped with lots of cheese and spiced. The ancient grain risotto was again fantastic, and anyone who can cook a risotto well deserves kudos. The dessert I had the strawberry shortcake that wasn't too sweet and had a beautiful flavor of fresh strawberries throughout with lots of whipped cream. The Keylime pie was tart and delicious. The Brooklyn layered chocolate cake was tremendous layers of cake and frosting. It was just a perfect rendition of a chocolate cake. Last but not least was the coconut cake which rivals my favorite coconut cake in the world from Max A Mia. Pretty area but I was honestly thinking it was going to be more quaint and romantic. It was not. The area is somewhat narrow which makes tables spaced close together and it's really not that private. But the space is nicely decorated and if you sit on the right side (which we did), you're right in front of the waterfall. I would try the dining room next time just to compare. Our server Anthony was professional, kind of and accommodating. We started with cocktails - I had a creative gin drink called Dot Dot Dot. My husband loved his Old Fashioned - he meant to ask what type of bourbon they used because he thought it was very good. With the tasting menu - many of the options apparently change regularly though based off other reviews it appears there may be similar options from time to time. We started with their Johnny Cakes which the waiter said the restaurant is known for. Another reviewer ranked them a 7.5/10 and I couldn't disagree more. They were one of the tastiest bites I've eaten in a while. Crispy, buttery and divine. I thought they were to die for. Served with creamy honey sesame butter which was also delicious. My husband doesn't eat fish so for his amuse bouche he had a little puff served with cheese, that was amazing. For his first course - he had the Ricotta Raviolis. They were as beautiful as they were delicious. My amuse bouche was a tuna tartare that was a perfectly balanced bite. I had the Tapioca custard as my first course. The bacon was a bit too smokey for my taste and overpowered the dish in my opinion. It could have used a bit more liquid but it was a unique few bites. For our mains, my husband's porcini risotto was rich, creamy, and full of earthy flavor. I had the bass with cauliflowerini, golden raisin-caper gremolata, Marcona almonds, and a cauliflower purée--thoughtfully composed and very flavorful. The final savory course was a crispy duck breast with port-poached pear, port reduction, and sweet potato purée, which was beautifully executed. Dessert was a pomegranate pavlova--crisp on the outside with that perfect soft, marshmallowy center. A delightful finish to the meal. Overall, the dishes were not only delicious but also thoughtfully composed and visually striking. It made for a memorable experience, and we're already looking forward to coming back--maybe in a different season to see how the menu evolves.
