We boycotted Plan B years ago after experiencing the trifecta of restaurant disappointment: bad service, long waits for food, and food that arrived with all the warmth of a February sidewalk. After several years, we decided everyone deserves a second chance. Apparently, so does disappointment. Today's visit started with a lengthy wait for drinks, which gave us plenty of time to admire the restaurant's impressive indoor climate control system set to "walk-in freezer." As we slowly lost feeling in our extremities, we waited for our food. And waited. And waited. The table next to us eventually gave up and asked for their food to go because it was taking so long. We thought, "Well, at least they'll get food." Plot twist: our food never came. On the bright side, if you're looking for a place to practice patience, intermittent fasting, and cold exposure therapy all at once, Plan B has you covered. read more

This seemed like it used to be an old railroad location. There was a bar with a few surrounding tables. The menu was bigger than I thought with a wide range of options to choose from tacos to sandwiches to burgers. It took a while for the appetizers and drinks to come out. The service was okay at best. There seemed to be only one server, and it even seemed like the chef was helping out deliver food, so it looked like they were understaffed. The server was very friendly though. For appetizers, two dozen wings ($22.95 each) were ordered. The honey mustard and Kentucky bourbon BBQ were the chosen sauces. The quality of wings were very good. They varied in size and were extremely crispy. They seemed to be double fried. The honey mustard sauce was flavorful. There was a little inconsistency with the amount of sauce, but not a huge deal. The Kentucky bourbon BBQ was an elevated BBQ sauce to me. There was a slight bourbon flavor, but nothing over powerful. For my meal, I had the squealer burger ($15.95). I opted for a side salad, which was terribly overdressed, which was unfortunate. The burger was a half pork, half beef burger with American cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, mustard, and mayo. The meat was cooked to my liking and there was an ideal ratio with the bread and filling. There was something salty about this burger, but I could not pinpoint what it was exactly. I'm definitely a huge fan of Plan B restaurants! There are 7 locations. This one in Simsbury is located in an old train station. If you know me, you know I love history and architecture; well, this is located in a historic building, love when they reclaim a building. There is a first floor and a basement. We dined in on the first floor. There was plenty of parking around the building. They have trivia night every Tuesday and karaoke the second Thursday every month. Our server was very friendly and attentive. We placed our food order in and he put in our toddler's meal through first (without our request) and brought it out before our food; that was very thoughtful and observant, since our son was hungry. My son had the chicken tenders and fries. I had the B Berry drink in their Glastonbury location and loved it so I had to get it again. It is a house-made blueberry infused Deep Eddy Vodka. I also had a prickly pear margarita which was decent and sour; it has El Charro Tequila, orange liqueur, house made sour mix, and prickly pear syrup. I definitely liked the B Berry drink better. This time around I got the El Diablo smash burger; this came with two smash patties, pepper jack cheese, shaved lettuce, jalapenos, chipotle ranch, and pic de Gallo, that was bomb diggity. It also comes with a side which I opted for tater tots (my favorite). The food and drinks came out at a good timeframe. Plan B has been a staple in town for some time. I have mixed experiences over the years, mostly sitting at the bar where if you aren't a regular you are often ignored. Sitting at a table is a much better option and the service is good . The firecracker cauliflower app (could have been spicier ) and 4 minis ( we had two beef and two pork) and an order of fancy fries was plenty of food for 2. As much as their beef burgers are excellent , the pork ones might be better. The restaurant is comfortable but tables are closely spaced and it feels cramped. I regret that when Plan B renovated the space the removed or obliterated a lot of the old artifacts that added significantly to the history of the place. It is good and worth a trip. What happened to Plan B? We've had bad experiences at other locations before and a couple iffy experiences at this location, but its a joke now. Went today and the restaurant was not very busy. Took 20 minutes for them to take our order. After that we waited another 45 minutes and food did not arrive. This is a burger place, are they slaughtering the cows in the back? Finally the waiter came out with more pickles we had asked for 40 minutes prior and we walked out. Never going to any Plan B again. read more

My extended Family ate at Plan B for lunch today. 2 ordered the Ultimate M.O.A.B. Burgers and while it was delicious it became hard to eat it neatly. It is huge with all the fixings and both had to finish eating it with a fork. No complaints though. I had the 3 Shrooms burger which was delectable. An order of Baja Fish tacos was delicious and rounding things out was a classic Bacon Cheeseburger, also well complemented. In all, it was a great place to meet up. The prices were reasonable and the service was very good also. Plan B is one of our go-to places because we know it will be a great meal. read more

Was there last Saturday with friends. Ordered an app, nachos , and when brought out the server said sorry we have no plates at this moment. I thought ok plates to come but shortly thereafter our food came out, so at that point we had the plates our dinner was on. At the end of our meal, our waitress came back over and gave us our check, with " normally I'd bring you a dessert menu but we have no desserts!" Unbelievable! Also they used to put pickles out guess those days are gone too. No wonder closing locations, sure this is next with.a closing of the entire chain. This is a great burger bar, not to be missed! It's cozy and inviting . The pickles were amazing. I had an incredible burger with Tater Tots! I had the Tavern Classic burger which was dressed with lettuce, tomato and onion and a special sauce, absolutely delicious . I took a gamble on ordering the tater tots and I'm so glad I did; crispy on the outside and delightful on the inside. It was a generous portion. Simsbury PlanB what happened. Your food has gone downhill, burgers were ordered "Blue" and "Pink" and both were cooked to black, i.e way overcooked, tots were greasy and that is just the food. Has anyone commented on the disgusting bathrooms, mens. Holy shit they suck. We will give them a few months to get their shit together before trying it again, but when you start losing staff it is concerning. And yes we live in Simsbury. read more

Would love to have had a chance to review the food here again, but an unfortunate experience a few days ago prevented it. I came here with my mom for a late weekday lunch stop. Imagine being so hungry that your stomach is growling and all you want is a nice burger, and "your" table-to-be is within sight! Well, we stood and waited around 10 minutes for a host or hostess, the whole time glancing at empty tables and seats that we wished we could help ourselves to. The hostess finally came over and said it would be another 20 (twenty!) minutes *just to be seated* - yet we could see one open table inside and two open tables outside, as well as an entirely empty bar except for just 2 people sitting at the bar. We mentioned this to the hostess, asking about the open tables and seats, and she basically just shrugged and apologized. What the heck! We ended up stopping for lunch at a different restaurant in Simsbury a few minutes away, were seated instantly, and had a great meal. I think we ended up getting our food quicker than the time it would have taken just for us to be seated at Plan B. It is too bad that Plan B lost the revenue by leaving tables empty when there are so many nice restaurants in the area competing for business. read more

I grew up eating at this restaurant when it was The One-Way Fair. Let me tell you, e-v-e-r-y-o-n-e was upset when news of the town icon's closing started to spread. Located in a historic train station, this restaurant not only had an amazing and unique atmosphere, the food was always delicious. I believe I can speak for all Simsbury natives when I share that we were devastated! My parents mourned for their favorite Station Burger. Fast forward to the opening of Plan B... what a relief! Even though the menu is changed, it truly feels like nothing else has. The menu & food has same wholesome and comforting style and feel. Now, instead the station burger, customers can choose from The West Coast, Baja Burger, 3 Shrooms burger, Blue Cheese Burger, Breakfast Burger and even a Burger Salad, to name a few of its high quality offerings. Last night my husband and I tried a new (for us) burger, the Smokehouse Burger, which had smoked brisket, cheddar cheese, fizzled onions and bourbon barbecue sauce and I believe we have a new favorite! There was no way we could have anticipated how perfectly brisket and hamburger are together under one bun! The Smokehouse Burger was so delicious I'm already looking forward to the next time we choose Plan B for dinner. My other go to items are the Buffalo Shrimp appetizer, the Burger Salad, the Blue Cheese Burger, my husband loves the Baja & West Coast Burgers, my daughter loves the Italian Job (chicken burger), the chicken tenders and the Mac & Jack entree. The menu has gotten smaller as a result of the pandemic, but you really can't go wrong with any of their menu items. I highly recommend choosing their tater tots or homemade chips as your side. Don't do take away from here. We didn't get everything we ordered and no one answered the phone when we called so we had to make a trip back to get the missing entry. We were given the choice of a refund or we could wait while they cooked the missing items. We waited, we needed that meal for someone. We've ordered from here a few times whenever we're in the area visiting the in-laws. Seems like a pretty popular and standard gastropub type of place, serving a variety of burgers. I opt for their plant based burgers, which have been pretty good, while the rest of my party gets a variety of different burgers every time we order in from there. It can take a little while for your order to be ready, so I do recommend allotting a little extra waiting time when picking up your order. read more

Charming old building that used to be a fun place to enjoy a meal. We had not been in quite a while and will not go again. First thing you notice is the randy cat smell when you walk in the front door. Next we were seated at a booth with peeling vinyl seats - shabby and uncomfortable. Our waitress Delia was pleasant and apologized for the extended wait time for food. It was not busy. Beer selection was good. I had a bacon burger that was made into a smash burger at my request- it had lots of carmelized onions & bacon and no bun. Overall it was tasty. My husband had the 3 'shroom burger that was sadly lacking mushrooms and unimpressive in its presentation. I mentioned our disappointment and asked it be removed from our bill and it was thank you. But surprisingly the manager made no effort to visit our table to let us know our business was appreciated nor apologize for the lackluster food. There were flies everywhere and as I mentioned the smell got worse as you went downstairs to the bathrooms. My daughter complained of the flies in the bathroom as well. Honestly it makes you wonder because the bathroom is the room they let you see so is it really clean ??? Overall I'd give this place 2 stars. I can't believe this is tolerated in Simsbury?? When I saw Plan b's menu, I told Amazing: "I want to go through this entire menu!!" Everything read like a menu I would make for my own palate, and I was making plans of what I'd order on the next trip there. I think it'll be a while until then after this experience. At 4:40 I started my order online. When I started it said it would take 40 minutes. No problem... Good timing. Well by the time I was done ordering online at 5:00 (yeah, it took a while), the system said the eta had changed to 60 minutes. Totally understandable. I arrive 15 minutes early and check in with them (the dessert I ordered came with ice cream, so I didn't want it sitting around at all). I'm told it'll be 15 minutes. Perfect!!! At 6:00 I go back in, I'm told it'll be another 10 minutes. At 6:15, I'm told a couple more minutes. At 6:30 I get my food. On the drive home, I'm thinking this cost them a star. Not because it was late, but for being told an ETA that was wrong 3 times. It's frustrating. But if the food is great, 4 stars ain't bad. Well.... The bottom bun on Amazing's burger was so stale, Patrice Bergeron would take it to the net. The burger patties are noticeably fresh, but they are loosely formed, which just seems like a culinary error. Same issue with the tots. Use an egg, folks!!! The kids meals were supposed to come with lemonade, and I never got that. I overheard someone ask about the drinks they ordered and he was told to expect a refund tomorrow because they didn't have to go cups. Is that automatic? Am I gonna get a refund? Do I have to call them about it? And worst of all.... As I stirred the blue cheese sauce for my blue chips, I noticed and pulled out a long black hair. I kind of lose my appetite for anything after that. Thankfully I had my burger first. The pineapple upside-down cake was the highlight that earned the minimum 1 star. We needed a quick stop before an even in Simsbury and Plan B elsewhere has never failed us. This one is pretty unique. It's in an old train depot (second depot in two days) that's been converted for them. It's probably 8 table inside plus the bar and we had one of about 8 tables outside. The wait staff was friendly and quick. We had the daily special drink, "I'm in love with Coco." It was really tasty and a great mix with Coco Lopez, pineapple, and tequila. Think Piña Colada with tequila. We had the Mini Cheeseburgers , Firecracker Cauliflower, and Buffalo Shrimp (mild). We both voted the cauliflower #1 and mixed the other two in our ranking. It's a really cool little spot. It would be a nice spot on a sports car run. read more

Had great meals here! I have never cared for hamburgers. I absolutely hate when you're eating a burger and find something foreign that you cannot chew in your mouth. Grosses me out! You will NOT find this in a PlanB burger! I always get the bacon cheeseburger. It comes with caramelized onions and your choice of buns. Hands down, I always choose the croissant bun. I couldn't figure out the menu and pricing--somehow a plant based burger, with cheese, on a salad is around $30. Not sure why and they need to be a bit more proactive in streamlining the menu to order this as one unit. It looks like you're paying for the Burger/salad combo, for the cheeseburger and then adding the plant based patty, putting it to $25, then it's $2 for cheese--if you build your own, you start with $18 for just the plant-based--which is equal mixing some basic non-expensive ingredients vs. all the upkeep in a cow, etc... then add your cheese, then the salad, tax... and well, I'm off to my local supermarket to get the plant-based burger and sides all for $10. Ridiculous that eating plant-based would be more expensive and lacks incentive. I would not be able to order fries or another side, and for another person for less than $100. Crazy town. read more

So my wife and I decided to go to Plan B tonight for dinner we get there about 630 give or take. we were seated right away. Our waiter came up. Nice gentleman order our drinks and it took us 30 minutes to get a glass of wine and a can of beer outrageous and they were not really super busy. By the time we were halfway through the waiting period for our drinks We, ordered our food that took us exactly 45 minutes to get our food. When we finally received it, it was cold. My burger was cold. Her burger was cold and our fries were cold. If I wanted cold food, I could've stayed at home. I'd go out for a reason. Even McDonald's burgers are hotter than this restaurant. To top it off a glass of wine is $12 for a 9 ounce pour. I could've bought a bottle of wine for the same price. We had our drinks two bowls of pickles and our food 45 minutes later let me tell you, the Service there has gotten really bad too many people in the kitchen too many people running around and not enough customer attention. Right when we sat down our waiter informed us on the CT covid regulations set in place for dining in etc. not to mention was quick to get drinks. This place was an awesome lunch stop. Big menu, and their burgers were phenomenal. Fresh, hot food and fun flavor combinations. Our whole table got the Bayou Burger special--shrimp, arugula, bayou sauce on two smash patties. The regular fries were ok, but I like thicker fries personally so I might try one of the other potato options next time. Great service too! Plan B is located in a historical converted train station, and is an absolutely beautiful building. As a fan of burgers, I found the menu to be fun with about every variation of burger available. The servers were friendly, although I was not a fan of being seated in a booth with part of the last diner's bun on the seat. If it were busier I would have understood, but this particular Sunday afternoon had only parts of the indoor and outdoor dining room full. The food was good though, and the burger meat was cooked perfectly to different diner specification. Their homemade chips also had a good crunch and salt ratio. read more
