Situated in the former LePeep at 82nd and Craig and offering a similar menu, it is clean and bright. That is good because my first impressions beyond that paled. We arrived about 12:30 to a practically empty restaurant. We were met with a lackluster greeting-as in no greeting. We were shown immediately to our table and our orders were taken quickly, again, without any enthusiasm. (I was a little disturbed when I asked about the spice level of the shakshuka, and she offered that it wasn't too bad. When I inquired further, she admitted she didn't really know because she had never had it. Why not just be honest in the first place? Food arrived promptly. One friend was very pleased with hers, another was okay, and mine was subpar. (I know, it sounds like the Three Bears). I had avocado toast. The eggs on top were cold, the toast was not at all crisp, but the avocado was nice. The best part of my meal was the fruit on the side. I must say that the server (also the greeter) did bring a carafe of iced tea with our drinks, so we never had to wait for a refill. Nice touch. When we finished, she took our payment, no thank-you or come back. We chatted for a while, so I guess it was getting time for them to close (2:00 p.m.) and she began mopping the floor. The entire floor. Thereby requiring three older women to cross a wet floor to leave. Really, it seems she could have left a section for us to walk safely across. Even if my food had been better, I would not return because nothing about Maple made me feel wanted or appreciated. read more
