There are so many things I love about Manuel's. For serving Mexican food, I'd say Manuel's is on the healthier side. The food is light and fresh- (rarely greasy) and there are plenty of salad options. Their drink menu is extensive, ranging from margaritas to cocktails and wines, and everything is averagely priced. There is a beautiful outdoor patio with cushion seating, waterfalls, trees and vines, lights, and a beautiful white and blue backdrop for photos. The waiter was kind enough to take a photo of my friend and I that was indeed Instagram worthy! Overall, I'd highly recommend Manuel's. My friend and I met for a drink recently- I'm a true Austin OG so I'm embarrassed to say I had never been here. I was blown away by the experience, service and food. The atmosphere and energy is captivating from the moment you walk in. We chose to sit on the patio and it's so beautiful and peaceful with water features and garden. We split a couple appetizers and got more than a couple cocktails. Each was better than the last. The nachos and the Ceviche were amazing. And the Paloma I can't wait to bring my husband back for our next date night. Growing up on authentic Mexican food- he's going to love this place. read more

We finish off the year and our quest to 200 Mex/Tex Mex joints and we picked a fantastic place. Manuels is on the higher end off the $$ spectrum, but we truly feel you get what your paying for. I would definitely label this as a "date" night or special occasion spot. Service did start off slow, but finished top notch. Started with you basics...Chips, Queso and Salsa....All were very good. The Chile Con Queso is more like a Fundido and with the venison Chorizo it was amazing. The salsa had me guessing what was in it, very unique taste...orange in color but not Habanero based....just couldn't stop eating it. Wife went with the pork Enchiladas with a Roja Adobadas...which was smokey with a nice heat to it. I went with the Chicken Enchiladas with the Bandera trio of Salsas Verde, Suiza & Adobadas. No way I could pick a favorite they were equally good. And those Black beans were Legit!! Out of the 200 places we have visited this was only the second time we have been served white rice...Don't get me wrong...Cooked perfectly and tasty...and went great with both dishes....something different for sure. Made it to Sunday Brunch post Power Outages and during the Boil Notice. We were so grateful they were open and operating on a full menu. They thanked us for dining with them and a manger came by to check on us a couple times. Great service! They have the best Mexican Martinis. The Chile con queso was so good, our server recommended it with flour tortillas. Their tortillas were authentic and fresh. My girlfriend and I were able to share the beef fajitas for one, so we could save room for dessert. The butter cake and caramel was so delicious, hit the spot with fresh hot coffee. We will definitely be back. It was such a beautiful day, we will definitely have to sit out on the patio next time. As far as Covid precautions, they make sure to check everyone's temperature. Seating is spaced out and booths have plastic dividers. All servers wear masks and some wear double. Very clean restrooms and Hand Sanitizer is available. I felt very safe. read more

Upscale and modern Mexican restaurant in the Great Hills area. Nice, clean decor, tasty food and drinks. Ordered a refreshing mezcalita to start (margarita made with mezcal). Followed my order with the Chile en Nogada. This is a stuffed poblano chili stuffed with a shredded pork, almonds and raisins and topped with a walnut brandy cream sauce, and then topped with pomegranate seeds. The Chile en Nogada was tasty and had a good combination of savory, contrasting with the sweet raisins and walnut. I'm usually not as into the savory and sweet combinations, but think they did an excellent job, as I finished every bit on the plate. We went to Manuel's on a Sunday evening with our family to celebrate our daughter's 18th birthday. The dining room was busy, and felt very nice & open. We were seated at a corner table with comfortable chairs. Our server Kate greeted us promptly and made good recommendations. I ordered a vegetarian dish - Tostadas Capitalinas with mushrooms and avocado. When it arrived, the toppings were fresh and generous, with a good combination of flavors. Our daughter had the beef tenderloin with goat cheese butter and devoured every bite. We ordered the Budin chocolate dessert to celebrate, and it was delicious. The quality & flavors were very good and unique. Definitely a cut above other Mexican restaurants in town that we have tried. We look forward to coming back! read more

This used to be my favorite restaurant before Covid. They're disorganized and just not the same any more. They refused to bring me chips and salsa and when I asked, they were very surly about it and told me that if I wanted more chips, I would be charged for it. Shame on this restaurant and the manager. I don't know if this decision is coming from upper management, but I take that as having contempt for your customers, some of which have been coming here for thirty plus years. I won't be returning. The manager of 50 years was very aggressive with me and didn't seem to want to hear about my concerns and maybe some constructive way to resolve the issue amicably. Go to Gloria's in the Domain. The quality of food is much better and before you can even unfold your napkin, they place hot and fresh chips, salsa, and black bean dip on your table. They also treat the customers very well and are very friendly unlike Manuel's. read more

I've been here twice and come back for the patio. It's really very beautiful and has a nice atmosphere with the fountain, the big tree, and the music that stays low enough to have a good conversation, loud enough to enjoy. But the service both times wasn't the best. Slow at times, not very friendly, and I'm being generous. Food is pretty good, but not near as good as others in town that have great service and better prices. I will continue to come here for the patio, but just stick to drinks and apps from now on. read more

We had a holiday dinner for our leadership team, it was 2 weeks ago and they are still talking about it! The staff were accommodating, the food fantastic; one of our physicians mentioned he had the best margarita he has ever had! On a personal note, Manuels has taken care of my husband and I for years. It is one of the best restaurants in Austin! We love the patio in the evenings or for a Sunday for brunch, it is beautiful, the ambiance is wonderful. We went today during a busy brunch rush and won't make that mistake again. Refills were far between or non existent, our poor server was seriously overloaded with tables. The food took way too long to come out and the portions for the price for the brunch items are laughable. I did enjoy my mole enchiladas but if I had gotten the brunch Lomo de puerco I would have been livid with the measly, dry 2.5 oz portion of meat it came with. To top it off, the computers went down and we were told we couldn't pay our bill so just, ya know, hang out for another 15 minutes. Our server finally came and got our contact info so we could pay later and leave but we never received our $25 gift card we had been offered or my refill on our chips or my Jamaica. Place an order for pick up. The lady was very helpful on the phone when placing order in making sure we got what we wanted. There is a curbside pick up with payment over the phone for as much covid Conscientious and contactless as possible! We did have to wait 15 minutes extra because our order was either lost or had to be remade. But they did their best to communicate that information with us! The food = fajitas were amazing! I was excited to try Manuel's given their reviews and nice looking patio, but I was pretty disappointed, especially given the cost of their mediocre Mexican food. When we chose Manuel's we wanted to go for their nice looking patio. Once we arrived we checked in with one of the hostesses - a little early for our reservation. She said great and that she'd get us seated in just a second. After more people walked in and she kept running back and forth between other parts of the restaurant, 10 minutes had passed without any acknowledgement that we were still waiting. My wife walked back up and asked about how much longer it would be, she then reconfirmed all of our information and said it would be just a minute, they had to get some other people seated first (even though we had a reservation and had been waiting for 10 minutes and they had all just walked in). Once we were finally seated we were very glad we chose the patio - it's really nice and well worth it if you're eating here. The entire restaurant seems to have a really nice ambiance which may be where their inflated prices come from. We started with just their house margarita on the rocks, which I would highly recommend! Margarita's seem to be so hit and miss but these ones were definitely on point. The food and service however were both mediocre. We ordered chips and salsa with our drinks, and I would advise skipping those. The chips were not very good and we got what seemed to be the "bottom of the barrel" with just a ton of crushed bits. The salsa was just bland and kind of strange. We ended up splitting the beef fajitas for one, which was actually a perfect amount for us!). While they were good, they were not worth what we paid for them, especially because they didn't even come with rice which had to be added. Towards the end of our meal, our waitress disappeared and it felt like forever for us to get our check and get it paid. We'd probably return here for Happy Hour drinks on the patio, but not for a meal. read more

I had an excellent meal at Manuel's while visiting Austin last week. Shared a few appetizers including a mushroom quesadilla (really delicious!) and Baja Taquito - and of course, guacamole. I've never had bay scallops like this and would love this as an entree as well. But I had to save some room for the entree I ordered- Chile Relleno En Nogada- a roasted poblano stuffed with pork, almond and raisin picadillo. Wow! What really impressed me is the menu isn't just standard Mexican restaurant fare, and all of the meats are antibiotic-free and the fish and seafood are sustainable/wild caught. I found everything really special, carefully prepared, with little twists that made each item a little unique--even the flan I had for dessert (excellent!) had a little coconut flavor. Tonight we had the Parrillada for 3. The marinade on the steak is amazing and the nopalito was a nice surprise. Manuel's has been a staple for us for years, but we have a few go to favorites. Consistently good food, a simple, but well executed cocktail menu, and wonderful indoor/outdoor dining options make this a great place for afternoon brunch, date night, or a celebration with friends. The Sopa de Tres Chiles is one of my favorite soups of all time and their salsa is as addictive as it is unique. Definitely more Mexican than "Tex Mex". The service has always been top notch and added bonus that it's next to Arbor Car Wash.
