Hands down, the best south Indian food in the area. Eating the Sunday Thali here felt like eating the best home cooked food ever. Gluten free items were clearly labeled, they even were able to double mark that some items needed to be gluten free for my husband who has celiacs. The best place to go for truly authentic, delicious food. The atmosphere of the restaurant too is amazing, it feels so modern and chic. Our first time to Mantra as a group of 6. Friendly reception. Odd table and chair placement for us. Bumping onto another table of 12. Food- A solid Good. Loved the Dosa varieties they have. Chole Bhatura fell short. It was more of a puri rather than Bhatura. Will I be back for food? Yes. Now to the meat of this review. Comes from a point of love. Ambience is screaming for more love. Wall art is good but guys the tables and chairs are generic and can use some upgrades to match your food. Can be made more upscale. Make it more inviting for couples. Service can improve- we got our food at different intervals and some had finished food before some got it. Music to match the food. Vegan review- it was my first time here tonight and boy was I in for a treat. Food 5/5 ambience 5/5 service 5/5. I tried the schezwan noodles and gobhi Manchurian for vegan dishes and both were absolutely delicious. Finished off my meal with a vegan rabdi. I was pleasantly surprises to find a vegan dessert option at an Indian restaurant. It tasted great but it was too much for a single serving. So got my leftover for later to go with jalebi. My vegetarian family tried kofta, dal makhani, dosa, gajar halwa with ice cream and Gulabjamun and everyone loved everything. We left full and happy. Highly recommend. They seem to have a mix of chaat and South Indian dishes. We ordered the Mysore and Andhra Kara Masala Dosas, the Kara one was deliciously spicy which was a welcome surprised. Food was really up to mark. We had samosa chaat, Hakka noodles and Kanjipuram dosa and carrot halwa with ice cream. We loved all of it. Wide variety of menu compare to others. Great South Indian vegetarian menu! Glad to find this hidden gem in Folsom. Much better than Mylapore! Which recently has become anti customers - especially the owner. They use so much paper, use& throw cutlery - feels like cheap place. The sambar quantity is so little and they make you beg for more and many times it comes so late that you are done with your food. Mantra food quantity: I ordered mini tiffin and soya chap biryani. The biryani quantity was good for two. The vada was quite big ( Mylapore the size looks like mini vada) .. decent Sam had quantity and extra sambar was served quickly. Cutlery: they serve in nice plates and silverware. Happy to see no paper plates and feels like having food in nice place. Plus eco friendly! Cleanliness : overall looks clean and neat. We went in evening and did get couple mosquito bites! May be needs more frequent cleaning below the tables Quality: It is subjective for each and in my case loved the taste of sambar, chutney and biryani. We have been to Mantra before and find that in each visit, the service is outstanding with best tasting food.

As a vegetarian who loves Indian food, I rank Mantra as possibly my favorite restaurant in both the Indian and the Vegetarian category. Perhaps the best part is the wide array of South Indian dishes on offer--although there are a number of familiar curries here as well, you can get a range of different dosas, idli, uttapam and so on that you don't always see. The menu is extensive! The main problem I have at this place is choosing from all the lovely options. Dosas come with delicious sambar and coconut chutney; vada pav is a highlight. Spiced to perfection. On a recent visit they also had a seasonal specials menu. I cannot recommend this place enough. Also, even having brought several people here who were unfamiliar with South Indian cuisine and are not vegetarians or particularly adventurous eaters, I have never heard a bad review from anyone in my party--except those who enjoyed too much food hehe. read more

Excellent food, service and even the ambiance was nicer than normal for an Indian restaurant. Server was efficient and helpful and everything we had was excellent. Many other items that we'd like to try on their menu. Really want to return for one of their Thali lunches. One suggestion is changing the lighting to a more "warm" 2700K lightbulb, especially over the tables. The light source was too bright and did detract from the otherwise nice experience. read more

Honestly guys, this is the best South Indian food West of Goa. I discovered them about two months ago, and I've been 8 times already. Tika masala dosa is so satisfying! They even sell the batter. Idli's and chutneys are authentic! Mango chili lemonade is the drink for me! The staff is super sweet. Yelp took my previous review down after I received a notification that over 1400 some people were directed here bc of it. Apparently it didn't seem "real" enough. Went there a couple of weeks ago. We were a party of 9 people. The food and the yogurt drinks we ordered were good. Food wise, it was a good experience. The ambiance is somewhat cold and just okay. Planty of space, though. The service was good. However, when I got to my house and looked carefully at the bill, I realized how dishonest the server was and / or the restaurant practices. The only thing I took issue is when a gratuity of 18% was added to our bill since it was a party of 6+, and they didn't let us know when they dropped the check on the table. Okay, reading the bill is up to me, but they should say something about the added gratuity. I did when I served tables for many years. I have no problem with the gratuity AT ALL, but when they handed me the hand-held POS terminal to pay, the server gave it to me AGAIN without mentioning that the tip was already added and there is no need to choose a tip option at all before signing. I don't know about anyone else reading this, but that is dishonest, double dipping, and she obviously stayed silent on purpose in order to gain extra tip on top of the 18% large party gratuity!!! For me, it is nothing short of stealing from me and counting on me/people trust to take more from them. By the way. As a former server, I would have left 20%, or even more, if the service was excellent. It's not a good business practice read more

When you entered the restaurant, it was very clean nice and modern. We were greeted by I believe the owner who was extremely nice and service oriented. He invited us to come dine inside--but we were not able to and had to order to go. We ordered $176.00 worth of food for our family; and we were MORE THAN IMPRESSED AND GRATEFUL for all of the FLAVORS in EVERY single item that we got. 10/10. We will be back. I really wanted to like this place since I absolutely love Sanskrit restaurant in Folsom but I've tried 3 times now and I'm done. I ordered paneer butter masala asked for it mild and they actually made it extra spicy?? I don't get how that can happen it was so spicy that I couldn't even eat it. My husband even found it to be spicy and he is used to spicy Indian food since he grew up in south India. I'm a decent cook and I love flavorful food but there is a difference between flavorful spices and just burn your tongue and stomach spice. read more
