Half French Toast, Kids eggs and bacon
    Christina I.

I came here on a whim for Mother's Day. It exceeded my expectations! Food: Initially I thought they had eggs benedict. They didn't.... But they had sooo many other good options. I knew I'd get full quickly. So, I appreciated they had a half French toast option. The guacamole was amazing! So creamy. The salsa was great too. Was not too smokey or spicy (just right). We also got their version of steak and eggs as well as pancakes. The pancakes (omg) melt in your mouth . (Note this was a holiday so may not apply during every visit) I was really surprised to get a complimentary mimosa and mini cake (forgot the name). They actually gave each of us our own a mini cake. Overall between everything we ordered it had a good balance of sweet and salty. Everything was so flavorful. Service: Our server was excellent. She was on point when asking for recommendations. They also do reservations online, which was really simple. Ambiance: The decor is beautiful. So unique too. I would go here just for the ambiance. You almost feel transported to a different country. Totally worth it.

Happy Hour Maīz Mezcalita and Blackberry Margarita

Never been to any of the four Zócalos in the Sac area before. Since we had a later event in Folsom, we decided to make our drive worth it and have a few Happy Hour bites and booze here. Glad we did! Arrived at 4pm on a Friday (HH is 3-6 M-F) with plenty of parking slots and seats to choose from. Happy Hour wasn't limited to the a specific section like some places. Ronni and another server came immediately with complimentary warm tortilla chips, salsa mesa and black bean dip as soon as we were sat. We had dip refills arrive as fast when they noticed our almost empty dishes. I had the Maīz Mezcalita while my wife got the Blackberry Margarita. Fantastic cocktails with the right balance of sweet & strong. Our apps were (arranged best to good) Baja Fish Tacos, Zoca Quesadilla and Ceviche de Guaymas. Great service and awesome atmosphere. No wonder Zócalo is popular. Often during happy hour, bars would skimp on the alcohol and bites. Not here. We will definitely be back

We had another fantastic meal. Our server Anna was great as always. She has been out several times and always welcomes us back with a smile. The food today was delicious. I ordered a pitcher of their blackberry margaritas and was happy I did. The fresh blackberries make it feel healthy lol. My wife loves the fish tacos and gets them every time. I normally get the enchiladas and have never been disappointed.

Blackberry, margarita house, margarita, and fresh guacamole

We had the best experience at Zocalo for a much-needed mom's night out! The drinks were amazing--we tried the blackberry margarita and the house special with upgraded tequila, and both were so good. Our server, Rachael, was incredible--so attentive and made the whole experience feel easy and fun. Tessa also stopped by and surprised us with the cutest little prickly pear shooters, which was such a fun touch and honestly made our night. We ordered the ceviche (highly recommend!), along with fresh guacamole, bean dip, and salsa--everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfect for sharing. Between the food, drinks, and amazing service, it was exactly what we needed for a happy hour mom's night. Highly recommend!

My boyfriend and I stopped by Zócalo in Folsom for lunch and had a really great experience. They had their brunch menu out, which looked very good. We decided shared the salmon bowl on the regular menu and it was so so good. I really loved the pickled cabbage and my boyfriend, who is normally a picky eater also loved the bowl. It was a great size for sharing an early lunch. Everything tasted really fresh and the flavors worked so well together. It's definitely something I would order again. The best part of the visit was our server, Luke. He was extremely kind to both of us from the beginning and gave amazing service the entire time. He checked in on us without being overbearing and made the experience feel really welcoming. At one point he even brought us a free appetizer pastry, which was such a nice surprise and it was delicious. He even offered to get us more, complementary! We unfortunately had to decline due to being so full from our delicious meal! Everyone else on the staff who helped us was also very friendly. The team there created a positive environment, and the restaurant itself is beautiful and comfortable. It felt like a great place to sit, relax, and enjoy lunch together. One thing to note is that it's a little on the pricier side. Most of the menu items were around $20-$30. That said, the quality of the food and the level of service was definitely worth it. I'd definitely recommend Zócalo if you're looking for a nice lunch or date spot in Folsom.

We were there for dinner on a Monday night and had reservations for 3 at 5:30. We were seated right away but upon seating, the hostess informed us that there was another party arriving to our table at 7. It did not feel great to hear that before we were even seated to start our meal. The place has warm ambiance but didn't feel as warm and welcoming as the Sacramento location (possibly due to the interaction with the hostess). The service and wait staff was prompt, warm and friendly. We received our drinks and food in a rushed manner (not great for dinner with friends). I highly recommend their Tacos de Cuzuela with sautéed chicken and chorizo, onion, mushroom, Jack cheese and chipotle salsa. Served with the house made tortillas. It is mouthwatering delicious. The fish tacos were also flavorful but the lettuce made them a little watery. I recommend either going very light or fully removing the lettuce.

This was our third time trying a restaurant that I have loved in Roseville and Fair Oaks. The food is def better... Ceviche with fish: 9/10. Too much lime and not t enough spice. But fish with cucumber and radish (instead of onion) was delicious. Rellenos (no pork): 10/10. Perfectly cooked al dente poblano, lots of cheese and a light cornmeal crispy coating. Would order again! Steak Tacos: 7/10. Steak was well flavored but didn't expect it to be ground up and the potatoes lacked flavor. Cilantro rice with beans - delicious!! But the service is spotty: 7/10. Appetizer brought with no plates. People coming by but not always doing what they could like removing dishes or asking about to go boxes. Speaking of which...I don't know why restaurants want to dish up MY leftovers!! Please stop doing that. You don't do it the way I want it packaged and it's just weird. Plus you end up throwing away food I would have taken home and eaten. Next time I will insist on doing it myself and see what happens. If it's not allowed I will not go back. Ambiance is lovely. Clean and spacious.

    Communal lavatory outside rest rooms

This time we took a relative from out of town to try out one of our favorite Mexican restaurants. She loved it. The atmosphere as usual was upbeat, fun and the service always accommodating and very friendly. We never feel pushed or rushed. The wonderful chips and salsa came out right away, with the bean dip. Such a treat and delicious. We all ordered Margaritas and although each different, I had the 'Cadillac', everyone seemed very satisfied. This time I had the Taco Salad which was great. Full of freshness and ingredients that all worked so well together. The portions are always large and easy enough to bring some home depending on hungry you are at the time. So, overall, as usual a really fine meal. These folks know Mexican food (American style at least) and know how to run a restaurant. I visited the rest room and was intrigued to see the communal lavatory wash basins outside the rest rooms, yet so tastefully done too. Plus you don't need to open a door using the handle after washing your hands. Think about it. I get tired of opening the rest room door to leave after washing my hands using a paper towel, If available, and then attempting to toss it into the trash can while holding the door open with my foot, wherever that can might be! It's perfect for a YouTube video. Zocalo is fun and very enjoyable, plus the food and service can't be beat. GO!

The garden area is beautiful, I love to come and sit outside on a nice day. The tortilla can be a bit hard and not always consistent, but otherwise the food is delicious and good service.

After living in Sacramento my whole life I somehow had never tried Zocalo?? It was definitely worth the hype. Food was delicious, drinks were refreshing, the building and interior were beautiful!! Most of us got the enchiladas which have 3 sauce options and come with black beans and rice but for starters we got Aguachile and Queso fundido. We also got the blackberry & mango margaritas (mango was the best!!!). Our server was also very nice, gave recommendations, and was very patient since we were such a big group! He also spoke Spanish which was a plus for my family. Overall, amazing experience and we will definitely be back!

It was a date night adventure night and for my pick I wanted to try something new. A friend had tried the downtown location and highly recommended it. We arrived and were sat rather fast, with our choice of outside; to enjoy the weather, under a covered patio opposed to inside, but let me tell you both the exterior & interior had such charming vibes! I got the three taco plate opting for the steak, shrimp and carnitas tacos with the cilantro rice and black beans. All of my tacos had so much flavor and were made using fresh ingredients. The hand made tortilla taco shells were absolutely phenomenal. We got a Paloma Clasica and Spicy Margarita, both of our drinks were tasty with plenty of alcohol. The staff were super friendly and made suggestions on appetizers & drinks that paired well with each other. The only tip I have is if guacamole is left and you want to take it home, do so as they will collect it with the salsa and cheese that they bring initially. We really enjoyed our time and will be back for sure.

Zocalo is an eye appealing gorgeous interior designed restaurant giving off an upscale resort vibe serving up modern contemporary Mexican cuisine. The customer service is top notch. The food is tasty. Pricing is not outrageous. The place has loads of ambiance appropriate for a family gathering with kids in tow or intimate date night. From the subtropical landscaped plantings, to the building's architecture and interior design look of pre Columbian meets modern Iberian vibe equals absolute gorgeousness. They have a bar, interior dining room, and outdoor patio. The food's plate presentation is picture perfect. The flavors are simple, fresh, and basic. One of my faves is the ground beef tostada salad. Seasoned ground beef served on a fresh tostada shell topped with basic, clean salad fixings. $16. They also offer complimentary chips, bean dip, and salsa with your meal. And they ain't stingy with 'em, they offer to provide refills.

You'd be forgiven for thinking you were in the wrong place or about to make a mistake and put yourself into a sketchy place. We looked around for a more "realistic" entry way not knowing the most realistic entry way is one that looks like a back door to a closed vacuum or furniture storefront. That's exactly the point. You knock. Immediately, the door opens. A man in a cowboy hat looks you over. He doesn't wear a name tag. He doesn't need one. He asks, "You have something to say?" If you've done your homework, and say the right thing, the door stays open. You're in. I do not know what happens if you do not have the word. What follows is less a bar and more a pocket of time. The interior is small but well conceived. The bar sits directly at the entrance, flanked by a few standing guests and several small tables. Beyond that, the space opens up into a lounge with seating for six to eight, and a longer bench-style area for a dozen or so. The walls are dark, the lighting low. It's the kind of place that feels like it remembers what Prohibition was, even if most of us never lived it. It felt like walking onto a movie set where we might be extras, and the main characters would enter and play out a scene. It was a perfect example of a speak easy in full swing. Even the glassware was legitimate. The decor is intentional. Books tucked into corners. Stags mounted on the wall. Nothing feels store-bought or trendy. It's immersive without trying too hard. The seats were not overstuffed contemporary types nor were the tables or even foot stools. They all looked like they came from a speak easy back in the day. About the only thing that did not look like the real thing were the patrons, as they were dressed casually, and of course the iPhones. I suppose that would have caused quite a ruckus during prohibition! Conversations are constant, layered over each other and laughter. It gets loud, but not obnoxious. There's a rhythm to the space that holds. My suggestion is to not go at 7pm on a Saturday and hope to get a prized table, couch or seat. Now, to the drinks. House Divided serves anything you ask for, but they lean into the theme. Classic cocktails done right. Throwbacks with historical lean. Creative new entries like lavender martinis that aren't just gimmicks. Each drink feels made by someone who knows what they're doing and takes pride in the process. This is not vodka-soda speed bar territory. It's craft, and it shows. I did not see a bottle of ocean spray anywhere, but what I did see were large glass bottles labeled with the juice or concoction held within. The little details are obvious! If I were to translate my usual framework:    *   Ambiance and Service: 4 stars (it can get loud and if you are here to have a conversation it will be difficult)    *   Quality: 5 stars- I had a simple drink - vodka and cranberry. With something "special" that the tender added. I don't know what it was, but the taste was wonderful! Way different than my standard go to!    *   Value? That depends on whether you're measuring price per ounce, or the fact that you just got to walk through a green door into another world. But in reality, 5 stars. Do I wish for more seating? Yes. Perhaps more quiet? Yes. But if it were those things, would it be the same? No. My guess is going on a Saturday at 7pm is going to be a bit crowded, and loud. That's my fault, and testament to their quality. Next, I found the staff to be great! Even the doorman gave it character, cowboy hat and boots and all! Great experience!

Who doesn't love the idea of a speakeasy?? We decided to head to Roseville in pursuit of a secret place. We found the secret door, knocked, and a young man answered. He asked for the password. Unfortunately I am not on social media and that's where you're supposed to find it. Bummer! I decided to use my own password. It worked and we entered the inner sanctum. It was a cool, smallish place with nice decor. The bar was the first thing we saw. I looked around to see a few tables and couches to the left. It was pretty early and there were only a few people there so we got a cozy little table in front of a velvety couch. I went to the bar where a burly tattooed OG bartender greeted me. I ordered an old fashioned and a raspberry lemon drop. My old fashioned was done very well. I'm on an old fashioned kick right now and love to try them at different places that look like they know how to make them. This one was really good. My friend wasn't so keen on her lemon drop, saying the lavender was a bit overpowering. We had another round and this time she had something different that she enjoyed. My second old fashioned was just as good as the first. It was getting later and more people happened to have the password and it was getting crowded. We were done, paid the tab, which wasn't bad considering how most speakeasy's can be pretty pricy. Overall, it was a great experience, the place was nice, friendly, and the drinks were done well. Give it a shot. Find the password, or use your own if you dare!

My husband had to send his lemonade back because it was carbonated, but they fixed it right away and it was perfect. The poke nachos was stacked high with crispy wonton chips and diced raw tuna with a spicy aioli sauce throughout. The buffalo chicken wings were sauced just right and still a little crispy. I heard the server tell another patron they can do bbq sauce or naked if you do not want buffalo sauce. The flatbread pizza wasn't as crispy on the bottom as I'd like (probably because of all the toppings) but the edges of the crust were good with a nice chew/crispy ratio. Overall, food was delicious, and at half off, definitely worth it, Since there were only a few patrons in the restaurant at the time, it was fairly quiet, but I've been when it's packed, loud, and lively. I brought my family and girlfriend for a nice dinner. We were there for more than 3 hours waiting for our food. It seemed like we had to literally grab the server for more drinks and everything seemed really disorganized. Our total tab was almost $500. For that kind of money at least competent serving and food wait times should be expected. We will not be back and I'm really sad that such a great bar in the front is done such a disservice by the restaurant.

Thus cheered, we were seated quickly, even though we arrived without a reservation. Water, bread and menus came quickly. Perusing them to the background mix of contemporary mellow pop (think James Taylor and Van Morrison) and old standards, we decided on the petite prime rib for the carnivore (me) and sea scallops served over risotto for my wife. We each chose flights of wine to accompany our entrees. Despite including three wines per flight, the pours were fairly generous. Our dishes were perfectly prepared and came out more quickly than we expected, considering that the place was almost full. Our server checked back just enough and took care of any special requests promptly, even offering to exchange one of the wines (out of six!) that we didn't like for something better suited to our taste. The pace was leisurely which was fine given the good food and wine accompanied by the relaxed vibe of the live music. And the prices were quite reasonable given the quality of both the food and service. A dark-ish old school atmosphere added to its charm for us Baby Boomers, but even younger diners seemed to be enjoying themselves. As for us, we highly recommend it!
