I visited Folsom to see family and made patio reservations at Back Bistro to enjoy the great weather. The patio is beautiful and the staff was very helpful. I can't wait for live music that starts in May. We started with the Fish & Rice. It features three towers of sesame-seared sushi-grade Ahi tuna on crispy seasoned rice cakes. The sesame flavor took the dish over the top. The Bistro Cobb Salad was excellent, and the blue cheese made it stand out. Finally, my seared salmon was toasted to perfection. I have been here a few times now and always have a great experience. I've only been for cocktails and apps but it is always such a fun time with friendly and helpful bartenders, great drinks and food, and lovely atmosphere. This past weekend we came over to have a drink before our movie started and I enjoyed their fall sangria. It was beautiful with a cinnamon stick, lemon, and raspberry garnish. Great fall favors- definitely I drink I won't forget. We didn't order any food this time but usually have the goat cheese fritters, which are always a hit with everyone we bring. I have taken friends here for a catch up drink at the bar, stopped by while having a fun day shopping, and always a drink before a movie. I have always had a good time and great experience. Would love to have dinner and listen to music in the summer but they do have heaters and firepits outside for the cooler months. Love it! read more

We opted to sit outside because it was such a nice day .. the outside seating area was cute.. we shared our appetizers .. the steak & potato and fish & rice plates .. the steak and potatoe was delicious! Steak was made well done though when we asked medium well .. the potatoes were soft and yummy. The fish & rice was great! A fried ball of flavored rice topped with a thick cut of seared tuna with some I believe unagi and spicy mayo sauce.. it went well together! I loved it! My main dish was the braised short ribs .. it was so tender you did not need to cut it with a knife! 2 thumbs up! My friend's main dish was the seasonal pasta add shrimp... The Back Bistro is a great fine-casual restaurant. Jeff Back is a sommelier, and he has an excellent, affordable wine list. The food is creative. Their covered patio is heated during the winter, and provides nice shade during the summer. Located next to the Palladio 16 Movie Theater, it's perfect spot for dinner and a movie. It's great for date night, happy hour, or large celebrations. Good food, good service, good drinks, good people. They also occasionally do special dinners and cocktail events. We come here quite often. This place is a great spot for a date night or a nice outdoor dining experience. The food is delicious, although our steak was overcooked. Their cocktails are fantastic, and they have some great bartenders. My favorite drink here is Penicillin. I've tried it at other places, but it's not to my taste. The service was just okay. We had to ask twice for water to be filled, and the appetizers came out without plates. The steak came out without a steak knife, and we had to wait for it. First time ever at back bistro, and our experience was excellent. My girlfriend and I did the 2 for $59. We started with the artichoke dip and goat cheese fritters. The artichoke dip may have been the best artichoke dip I have ever had; the bread that came with it, had a hint of garlic to it as well, which was great. The goat cheese fritters were fresh - hot, creamy and full of flavor. For the entrees, the pesto pasta was fantastic, and the chicken parm was just as good. We split a bottle of Chardonnay, and finished with dessert. Our waiter Drew (who was extremely professional and helpful on every level) recommended the Triple Pot de Crème, and this right here was the best part of the night. We've been here a few times meeting friends for lunch and dinner. This is also a great place for dates as well. This place is upbeat and friendly. The bar area is cool. We waited about 10 minutes for them to get us seated together. Time passed quickly while in awe with the decor. ;) Our waiter was cordial and gave us recommendations on customer favorites. We came here on our anniversary and we were pleasantly surprised that everything was delicious! We shared a BBQ chicken flatbread, had a couple of happy hour drinks and then our entrees. We stopped at the Back Bistro recently for lunch. I don't work in the area anymore, so it had been a long time since my last visit. It was again, a fantastic experience. While I had a great glass of wine, next time I go, it will be later in the day to enjoy their extensive bourbon selection. Our order consisted of a Cheese Burger, Steak & Potatoes and Mac n Cheese. The Burger (& fries) was made with House ground short rib and bistro filet, backed by Tillamook cheddar cheese, aioli and a soft grilled ciabatta bun. Very Special. My Steak was grilled on fondant potatoes with garlic aioli, balsamic reduction. I added prawns for a surf n turf. Absolutely delicious and I will order again. Interesting food, style, and location. It almost seems like they are one step from perfection. We came in as a table of 3 for lunch around 1:45pm Thursday (1/18/24). Our server was Colin B. He was attentive and did his job well. The restaurant was extremely slow at this time, we had only seen two other tables sat during our few hour stay. Small note, but for those of you that run cold this restaurant does as well. Our server requested our tab after we had paid, which was fine as I understand they have to leave for the day before the next server shift begins. We received no additional service, water fill ups (we were out of water for an hour), or check ups from other servers or staff during the two hours after we had paid. Understandable, but for a slow day I would expect someone to check on us eventually. Food was very good, though also seems to be one step away from perfection. The Mac and cheese needed more cheese and herbs of some kind. The grilled chicken club and truffle fries were both very good, but nothing you couldn't get somewhere else. The Caesar salad was the standout dish for our stay, perfect croutons and tomatoes. The steak and potatoes (appetizer) lacked flavor and just needed that extra something to make it stand out. The first thing you'll notice is the impressive bar. They have a huge selection of spirits. I have an old fashioned with barrel aged four roses. It was delicious. The custom made ice cube was a nice surprise. The service was very good. She was kind and seemed to really care about our experience. I had the lamb burger. It's fine if you like mediocre food in a glorified strip mall. I had to wait and really stare down the bartender to get him to bring me a drink, even though I was the only one sitting at the L-shaped bar. My date and I had dinner at the bar. We started with the artichoke hearts which were a goopy mess. Then I went on a limb and had the Lamberger, which was more bun than burger and was served soggy with soggy fries. I got the sense that the wait staff and the kitchen just didn't care. And why would they? The solidly middle class white pigs who inhabit this two star town don't care what you put in front of them. The strip mall was nice though. It felt like an outdoor version of some Las Vegas Casino mall. Can't argue with that. read more

Back Bistro has great service. They were very attentive and the food came out quickly. All the food was hot and the portions were normal size, not huge. I definitely recommend their old fashions, they are so smooth. I had the risotto and it was creamy and cooked perfectly. The veggies in the risotto were fresh. Do not miss the sticky toffee pudding. It's not something you can get just anywhere. I admit it was a little overcooked imho but the ice cream and caramel made it all ok. There is plenty of parking since it's at The Paladio. We came here with two other couples for a date night. We arrived without reservations, it was very warm, they were full inside, but we were seated on the patio. Outside there are tables as well as sofa areas. Misters and screens help with the heat. Our server, Brandon, was outstanding! Friendly, full of suggestions, and very attentive to our group. He also looked out for me, with my onion allergy, and asked questions in the kitchen on my behalf. As we were there during happy hour, a variety of adult beverages were ordered along with food items off the happy hour menu and dinner menu. I ordered the grilled artichokes, since I was unable to partake of the polenta. This was a surprisingly yummy and delicious alternative and I was quite happy! The rest of our table had street tacos, pork belly, flatbread pizza, and fish. Everyone was happy and our bellies were full. Since we were finished eating we left our table and made our way over to a sofa seating area. This is when we asked Brandon to turn on the misters. Why we didn't request this sooner baffled all of us because we instantly became 15-20 degrees cooler. Lesson learned. A second round of beverages was ordered and our convos continued. I normally never write negative reviews, but some things need to be said, simply just to warn other diners in advance. Having worked in F&B previously for several years, I understand that service quality depends entirely on the day, the server you have, and the efficiency of the team working that shift, but this was one of the worst experiences I've had in a long while. We went in as a group of 5 around 2pm on a Sunday afternoon. The place was not busy, just a few groups outside and a few inside. The service was extremely slow after the server brought us the menus. Our drinks (2 beers, a mimosa, & an Arnold Palmer) came out 15-20 minutes after we ordered them, just shortly before the appetizers were served. Once the food came out, the server didn't come back to check on us or ask how it was tasting, not once. When we finished, the busser took two plates and never came back for the rest. The server took about 8-10 more minutes after that to come back and ask if there was anything else we wanted. We said no, and expressed that we were ready for the check. We sat for about 20 minutes waiting for the check before we got up and walked to the front to get the check and pay with anyone who could give us the check. The server hurriedly brought us the bill after he noticed we got up, it wasn't until after we were paying that the rest of the plates were cleared. Everyone working was very friendly and nice, just extremely slow pace as a working unit. We noticed that several other tables around us also had the same issues of long wait times and plates not cleared. Food quality was okay, tasty but not impressive. Most of it was overcooked to the point that the meats were dry and chewy. Unfortunately not good enough to go back again. read more

The only reason for the 4-star rating is the service experience we had during one visit. We sat at the bar, but there didn't seem to be a bartender, and we waited far too long to order, request sauces, and even get our check--despite the restaurant not being very busy. Service was so slow that we initially wanted to order cocktails but changed our minds because it was taking too long for anyone to help us when we first arrived.
