    Short rib barbacoa (HH, $5)
    Sandee L.

What a nice surprise to stroll in and find they had Happy Hour on Sunday (sign outside says Monday - Friday 3-6pm). We started off with complimentary chips and four types of salsas. We loved sampling each one and enjoyed the traditional verde and roja salsas the most. The peanut chipotle and habanero-carrot were so unique! $2 off house tacos during happy hour make them a steal. Each taco has a ton of filling, and you can easily make a meal out of two to three. Loved the originality of the two signature tacos we had: octopus and pork belly. The octopus was tender and had a nice kick to it. The pork belly was fatty in the best possible way, succulent and sweet. ...And the grilled cheese on both?! Oh yeah! The cauliflower was a delight too. So full of flavor, I didn't miss the meat! Unfortunately, the chicharron was very salty and dry. I wouldn't go for this one again. The short rib barbacoa, however was a winner! Moist, meaty and topped with a creamy slice of avocado, it was the perfect pair. Bennett was our host and server and he did a great job taking care of us.

Loved my spare rib taco, guacamole was delicious and my server Bennett was as good as it gets! He is on it

Guac and chips, agua frescas, and tacos!

YUM!!! Wonderful waitstaff, all friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and restaurant, kind and courteous. Delicious tacos - all made fresh (tortillas, too!) and with pup friendly outdoor seating! Highly recommend and hope they keep expanding!

Took my 90+ year young mother in law to lunch after her doctors appointment. Have to say, after seeing a profile on diners, drive-ins, and drives, I was eager to give it a try. They immediately brought out chips and a flight of salsa to try incredible. From the mild to the peanut to the roasted carrot habanero, they were all incredibly delicious. We each got different tacos because of course we had to try as many different ones as we could. I got the cauliflower taco and the short rib taco. Both were delicious. Ingredients all incredibly fresh and delicious. And they don't skimp on the ingredients, the tacos were loaded! Place was clean, prices were reasonable, and Staff was incredibly kind. One even came running out to our car to see if we needed help getting my mother-in-law from her wheelchair to the car. How sweet!!!

We came at the opening and had the place to ourselves. The bar is quite extensive and let me tell you, the house Margarita was sooooooo well balanced that I could drink them until I couldn't walk. Wow the music is a little older than I'd like as it makes it hard to converse given the stone floor and walls. Eric was a terrific server who had good conversation with our table and threw out some humor amongst our chatter. We split the tacos to try as many as possible and enjoyed everything but listed our ratings below. Great spot for high quality tacos with freshly made tortillas. Chicken in Salsa Verde - 9 Balanced flavors but I'd like a little more brightness in the salsa verde Pork Belly - 7 Smoky flavor but a bit fatty for me Needs more pizzaz! Spicy Shrimp - 10 Crisp shrimp, bright flavors Perfection Cauliflower- 8 Spicy cauliflower with smoky peanut chipotle Crispy Potato - 7 Great taste when you get pickled vegetable but bland when you don't Avocado Explosion - 8 Flavorful spices but texturally mushy from the avocados Needs some crispness forme somewhere Carne Asada - 10 Perfectly cooked steak chunks Mushroom - 7 Mushroom was a bit on the vinegar side but it was flavorful Birria - 9 A little greasy and needs more cilantro and onions Barbacoa- 7 A little greasy and lacked strong flavors Lots of meat in this one though! Rajas - 7 Good flavor developed on the pepper and creamy cheese Pretty much a chile relleno Pastor - 9 The pineapple chunk sweetens a flavorful al pastor perfectly. This is a flavor journey with such complex ingredients that represent the spectrum of flavor. Buñuelos- 9 Cinnamon and sugar covered the tortilla strips making it a fun snack dessert to share

Wowzers! Have I not been eating Mexican food this whole time? This place is special! First of all, they make the best fresh tacos I've had thus far. With the pairing of unique flavors and pickled onions, everything was flavorful and scrumptious! My husband and I ordered 3 tacos each, and I loved my Octopus Taco with its' thalassic flavor, while my husband enjoyed his Combo Taco the most. The waiter was great and the food came quickly! The place has a darker, cool vibe about it, and the seating was well-spaced and roomy. My apologies, I don't like places where I've been squished in. My husband had no complaints on the bathroom either..

We tried the newly acquired Nixtaco in Folsom and I'm really glad we did. Ambiance: 8/10 The exterior is clean and inviting, tucked into a large lot with tons of parking big win there. Inside, it's simple but sleek, with a cozy and welcoming feel. Lots of seating options and a nice bar area. And I gotta shout out their coed bathroom setup, it sounds weird, but hear me out. The stalls are floor-to-ceiling, which gives top tier privacy and is a smart move for a shared space. Small detail, big impact. Service: 9/10 We were greeted and seated right away. Chips, salsa, and waters landed on the table fast... love that. A few minutes later, the manager Cory stopped by to check in and give us the rundown on their top taco picks. Friendly and clearly knew his stuff, which made ordering easier. Our server gave us a few minutes to look over the menu without hovering, which I always appreciate. Everything came out quick, and the overall service was great. Food: 10/10 Let me just say, I am not a corn tortilla girly. I usually avoid them. But these? These hit different. I got the Pork Belly and Quesabirria tacos and both were absolute bangers. Perfectly seasoned, juicy, flavorful, everything you want in a taco. My guy tried the flan (meh) and churros (yum), but I went with the "liquid dessert" route and ordered both the Lemon Drop and the Pink Lady. Both were solid, but next time I'm sticking with the Lemon Drop. Classic, refreshing, and just the right amount of bite. Also, props to the manager for being friendly and checking in. All in all, Nixtaco's Folsom spot has earned itself a repeat visit from me. Bring on the tacos and tequila, I'm already planning round two.

Octopus taco and Rajas con queso taco both with flour tortillas

We recently dined here and had a great experience. It was easy to make a reservation and we were seated right away after arriving. I had a spicy margarita which was delicious and definitely more on the spicy side. We had the octopus taco, shrimp taco, birria taco, and rajas con queso taco. All of the tacos were flavorful, saucy, and had plenty of toppings. We appreciated having the option to get flour tortillas and they supported the toppings well. Overall a delicious meal and we will definitely be back!

Highly recommend! From fantastic, friendly service, to really delicious food, to a very casual but upscale feel inside, this is the perfect little date night or meet up with friends spot, or treat-yo-self hangout. Started with the salsas - all really good flavor but none were actually spicy spicy which for me is a bit of a bummer but we love a good flavor bomb. Guac: delicious and filling. There are several vegetarian tacos available: corn, mushroom, and cauliflower. All are really delicious. The mushroom was my least favorite but still had really good flavor. Ended with the churros which were not entirely what I was expecting but still really good without being too hard/crunchy or too sweet. The sauce drizzled over it is delicious too; I'd ask for more of that next time. Overall, this is one of those spots I would happily come back to.

    Pork belly, octopus, quesabirria taco

My friend has been to the one in Roseville and loved it so he suggested Nixtaco for dinner but he found Folsom location which is a bit closer so we decided to go to this location. First I liked the fact that they have 4 different salsas. I liked the heat but the hottest salsa which is habanero wasn't hot at all. Guacamole was fresh and wasn't bland at all it was yummy that I didn't have to mix anything in, also ordered a side of chicharones and they were fresh out of the pan and it was still popping. My skinny passion fruit margarita wasn't as good as the one in Cozumel (of course...) but it was so strong I only needed one. For tacos, I ordered octopus, pork belly and quesabirria (I always order pastor which is my favorite but wanted to try others), octopus and pork belly were amazing but quesabirria was my least favorite of all 3, my friend ordered pastor and hot chicken taco he said was amazing, so next time I'm just gonna stick with pastor and maybe try other tacos. Very good food over all and super fresh! I will definitely come back and I've already told people about this place...

Honestly the octopus taco was the most memorable
    Lory A.

I love the atmosphere and the food/drinks are great. For some reason, the Roseville location has better quality food. The food comes out faster and it has more flavor. Nix Folsom is great but it wasn't memorable. The service was solid. I would return but probably to the Roseville location.

Shrimp Mazatlan, chicken mole, pork belly tacos. These are my favorites.
    David L.

Been coming here for lunch nonstop. Maybe 3-4 months now everyday I work nearby. Food is top notch, staff is amazing! Good beers on tap, great food, and amazing atmosphere. Come here. All my coworkers I've been brining loves it, and it's addictive. Pork Belly tacos, chicken Mole, and the shrimp. Amazing.

Hot churros topped with dulce de leche. Delicious!

We stopped for a snack after watching a show at the Harris Center. It was after 9 pm so the restaurant was not busy. I have been to the smaller location in Roseville and find this one more suited for large groups. There is a patio and inside large dining room. The service was quick, friendly and efficient. The drinks from the bar were delicious. The churros were hot crunchy and soft in the middle. It hit the spot on this cool evening. Yum!

You'd be forgiven for thinking you were in the wrong place or about to make a mistake and put yourself into a sketchy place. We looked around for a more "realistic" entry way not knowing the most realistic entry way is one that looks like a back door to a closed vacuum or furniture storefront. That's exactly the point. You knock. Immediately, the door opens. A man in a cowboy hat looks you over. He doesn't wear a name tag. He doesn't need one. He asks, "You have something to say?" If you've done your homework, and say the right thing, the door stays open. You're in. I do not know what happens if you do not have the word. What follows is less a bar and more a pocket of time. The interior is small but well conceived. The bar sits directly at the entrance, flanked by a few standing guests and several small tables. Beyond that, the space opens up into a lounge with seating for six to eight, and a longer bench-style area for a dozen or so. The walls are dark, the lighting low. It's the kind of place that feels like it remembers what Prohibition was, even if most of us never lived it. It felt like walking onto a movie set where we might be extras, and the main characters would enter and play out a scene. It was a perfect example of a speak easy in full swing. Even the glassware was legitimate. The decor is intentional. Books tucked into corners. Stags mounted on the wall. Nothing feels store-bought or trendy. It's immersive without trying too hard. The seats were not overstuffed contemporary types nor were the tables or even foot stools. They all looked like they came from a speak easy back in the day. About the only thing that did not look like the real thing were the patrons, as they were dressed casually, and of course the iPhones. I suppose that would have caused quite a ruckus during prohibition! Conversations are constant, layered over each other and laughter. It gets loud, but not obnoxious. There's a rhythm to the space that holds. My suggestion is to not go at 7pm on a Saturday and hope to get a prized table, couch or seat. Now, to the drinks. House Divided serves anything you ask for, but they lean into the theme. Classic cocktails done right. Throwbacks with historical lean. Creative new entries like lavender martinis that aren't just gimmicks. Each drink feels made by someone who knows what they're doing and takes pride in the process. This is not vodka-soda speed bar territory. It's craft, and it shows. I did not see a bottle of ocean spray anywhere, but what I did see were large glass bottles labeled with the juice or concoction held within. The little details are obvious! If I were to translate my usual framework:    *   Ambiance and Service: 4 stars (it can get loud and if you are here to have a conversation it will be difficult)    *   Quality: 5 stars- I had a simple drink - vodka and cranberry. With something "special" that the tender added. I don't know what it was, but the taste was wonderful! Way different than my standard go to!    *   Value? That depends on whether you're measuring price per ounce, or the fact that you just got to walk through a green door into another world. But in reality, 5 stars. Do I wish for more seating? Yes. Perhaps more quiet? Yes. But if it were those things, would it be the same? No. My guess is going on a Saturday at 7pm is going to be a bit crowded, and loud. That's my fault, and testament to their quality. Next, I found the staff to be great! Even the doorman gave it character, cowboy hat and boots and all! Great experience!

Who doesn't love the idea of a speakeasy?? We decided to head to Roseville in pursuit of a secret place. We found the secret door, knocked, and a young man answered. He asked for the password. Unfortunately I am not on social media and that's where you're supposed to find it. Bummer! I decided to use my own password. It worked and we entered the inner sanctum. It was a cool, smallish place with nice decor. The bar was the first thing we saw. I looked around to see a few tables and couches to the left. It was pretty early and there were only a few people there so we got a cozy little table in front of a velvety couch. I went to the bar where a burly tattooed OG bartender greeted me. I ordered an old fashioned and a raspberry lemon drop. My old fashioned was done very well. I'm on an old fashioned kick right now and love to try them at different places that look like they know how to make them. This one was really good. My friend wasn't so keen on her lemon drop, saying the lavender was a bit overpowering. We had another round and this time she had something different that she enjoyed. My second old fashioned was just as good as the first. It was getting later and more people happened to have the password and it was getting crowded. We were done, paid the tab, which wasn't bad considering how most speakeasy's can be pretty pricy. Overall, it was a great experience, the place was nice, friendly, and the drinks were done well. Give it a shot. Find the password, or use your own if you dare!
