I'm not sure that this place is my vibe. The tacos were definitely "American" Mexican flavors and unfortunately very soggy and oily. I get that tacos can be messy, but it was just way too messy in my opinion. The drinks were pretty fabulous though and well-priced. The potato taco at Nixtaco was INSANE. I tried a variety of tacos (including the cauliflower taco, chicken taco, shrimp taco, octopus taco, avo taco, and the potato taco). The potato taco was out of this dang world. The service was insanely fast. Especially given how busy the restaurant was. The vibes and ambiance was great. We ate outside and it was perfect weather. I've ordered food to go here over ten times easily. Excellent tacos. My favorite is the combo taco with a variety of meats. You can taste money being thrown at the taco to ensure a unique taste and high quality ingredients. Pricey for sure but worth it for a special taco experience. I've only had the tacos here but plan to try more of their options. Service has always been friendly and the wait time never long for to go orders. Highly recommend. read more

What is there not to love about Nixtaco?! I was sad to see Cantina Pedragal go, but if anything had to replace it, I am over the moon that it was Nixtaco. I met a friend here recently for lunch on a Friday afternoon. I love that they provide you with a sampler of their various salsas and their deliciously crunchy fresh tortilla chips. We also ordered some guacamole, which was superb. For my tacos, I got one birria taco and one goat taco. My friend had never eaten at Nixtaco before so I encouraged her to try the goat and she thoroughly enjoyed it. She also ordered an octopus taco. To wash everything down, we both ordered Arnold Palmer's made with their in-house lemonade. They were delicious and refreshing. And to finish off our meal, our waiter talked us into an order of the churros. They were crispy and perfectly coated in cinnamon sugar, and drizzled with caramel. Definitely a spot to check out if you're in the area! This cute restaurant is located in a small complex with plenty of parking. Walking up to the restaurant you'll notice outside seating available. When you go in, you're welcomed with a nice traditional and modern ambience. The dim lights and the linen curtains creates that extra warmth. The hostess was right at the front and greeted me. Reservations were set so she directed me to where to meet my party. As I sat down, the server was very attentive and welcome to me as well. To start off, I was looking for a spicy margarita. It wasn't on the menu, but he was kind enough to make one for me with no hesitation. I appreciated that he checked on our table often enough to make sure we were OK. I ordered the spicy shrimp tacos (I ordered it with no spice), and the Quesabirra tacos. The shrimp tacos were absolutely delicious! It had a good balance in flavors. I had a juicy first bite! The shrimp was cooked perfectly, and I loved the hint of lime. Definitely a taco I would order again. The Quesabirra taco came with the Birria dipping sauce. The taco was OK. Although it was not short of the beef, it could have used some onions and/ or cilantro to create more texture and in the taco. We came in on a whim after having our to go order canceled at another taqueria, and honestly it was the perfect accident finding Nixtaco. The husband was getting hangry and we couldn't have that, so I got on Yelp and found a new place. We stopped in and were pleasantly surprised by the relaxing ambiance, full bar, somewhat hipster vibe, excellent cocktail selection, and the food. I had myself a nice little house margarita and the pour was generous and the salt rim elevated the flavor exquisitely. Our server offered some excellent recommendations. We started with some drinks, salsas and guacamole . I tried the Octopus tacos and the elote'. Both were excellent. The guacamole was very fresh and featured a garnishment of fresh cilantro micro greens and red picked onions, served with blue corn tortillas. The octopus tacos were also quite good with a smoky salsa. The elote' featured yellow corn on the cob, char grilled, with cotija cheese sprinkles and just a touch too much salt, but I still devoured it, and honestly I think I'd order it again. My husband tried the carne asada tacos, Birria tacos, and pork belly. Naturally, my favorite was his carne asada tacos. I'm definitely getting those next time, in a burrito, and trying a michelada and a churro. Do try. read more

We tried majority of the tacos and we loved all of them. Each taco has their own unique flavor. I love that their tacos hold the meat and toppings very well which makes it easy to pick up and eat without being messy. (They also charge $2 for extra salsa) The fried chicken taco was the only one that I wish was a little bit bigger (chicken) to fill out the taco but other than that it was good. The service from staff was nice but they are persistent... at least it comes to ordering lol idk if it's because it was our first time and we just needed a moment a few times. They have tv's by the bar and the inside has a nice theme. The space is a little crammed on the inside but they make it work. The bathrooms are different from your "normal" men and women can go in the same direction but there are individual doors idk if that makes sense but that was a little different. I rate it 4/5 for overall experience but my BF rates it 5/5 (he's just there for the food). We will go back to try more items. read more

My favorite was the roadkill taco which tasted like a down south, smoky, Texas BBQ pork inside of a homeade blue corn tortilla,,, I ordered 2 of these to go because they were my favorite. Best fried chicken taco I have ever had. The lamb was savory and rich and very good, it just needed a tad more sauce. They bring chips and The service was stellar. We went to Nix Tacos in Folsom. There were 7 of us. The staff was friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was good. It was lunch time and there was only 4 other people there. My review is only based on my and my husbands food. I had the shrimp tacos, they were extremely greasy. My husband had the Carne Asada burrito and he said the meat was chewy and not very flavorful. The total bill was 250.00 for 7 and they added a 20% tip to the total. When I paid, there was an option to add an additional tip! I've never seen that anywhere. Since when is 20% not enough? I found the bathroom situation to be strange. One unisex bathroom with full door stalls and shared sink area. No seat covers provided. read more

The food was just ok and wildly overpriced. $8-9 for one taco, just an average taco, I expected them to be amazing at that price. Chips and salsa are over complicated and also below average. Chips tasted like they were from a bulk bag and one of the four salsas was decent. The churros were good, that was a highlight. One of the worst margaritas I've had too. The service was great. Overall you're better off going to Mas Taco or Zocalo for higher quality food at reasonable prices and better atmosphere too. read more

Great higher end tacos that push up on the price boundaries for what you get. Better than Mas Taco Bar for sure but $7-9 for that sized taco is the expectation. Octopus taco had really good flavor and the meat was soft unlike other places I had octopus. The pork belly had nice texture and flavor. Carnitas felt like an average carnitas taco though. read more

The food here is sooooooo yum! The quesabirria tacos are really tasty and I get one every time. The birria meat is nice and savory. I would also recommend the spicy potato appetizer. It has a really unique flavor and is definitely one of my family's favorite items. The staff is super friendly, helpful and attentive and very knowledgeable about the different menu items. One suggestion for the management to consider, please give customers the option to request the type of salsa provided with the complimentary nacho chips, and provide enough of the same for a group without an additional charge (instead of a dollop of all four salsas). read more

I'll start off by saying I have been to the Roseville location about 10 times. This is one of my favorite restaurants. And I crave it often! I thought I'd try their new location. I loved the decor, it's larger, slightly less noisy and it's only been open for 5 months. Right off the bat - salsa is different. Less spicy. I know certain restaurants change their recipes based on where they are located. So that was strike one. Then I didn't see the Mazatlan style shrimp. Strike two. The spicy shrimp was my selection since I was craving mazatlan style. It was different and flavorful but wasnt the same. And it get it isn't meant to be the same. I had the octopus and booooooi was that spicy. They should have the word spicy in its name. It was spicier than the spicy shrimp! I had the pork belly - a must each time. Good stuff! Decided on a fourth. Mushroom taco. It was good as usual but spicier than I remembered. Another observation is that the tortillas didn't have the signature blue and yellow corn mix color. We usually take a dozen home each time and I didn't even consider it here. That says something. I saw folks like the yellow corn Tortilla but I feel blue corn is their signature! All in all great spot to try! I have been Spoiled by Roseville. The area has great influence on what is on the menu and sometimes that is a step back. I went in to the restaurant one day at opening. I told the guy I was just evaluating the place to see if I will bring friends here. I sat down as I was the only customer .. and ordered some samples. I am a foodie and have eaten at many high-quality restaurants. This is the best Mexican restaurant I have ever eaten to. Tacos were amazing. The only taco that was a little weird was the lamb taco it tasted like a cough drop but the other tacos were so good. We ordered the birria taco it was the best I have had! The chicharron taco was so flavorful. The short rib barboca taco was also amazing. We tried the fried chicken taco and it was amazing and not as hot as they make it seem. Last but not least I tried the Rajas con queso taco and it was different but good. These are one of a kind tacos. I will definitely be back. The food is good, but not worth the terrible service. We came in at 3:20pm and left by 4:00pm. It took 15 minutes for our server, Berlin, to actually approach the table and bring water, while it only took 5 minutes for our food to come out. At the end of our meal, our server brought the check without even asking if we were wanting to order dessert. We were going to order dessert, however after the terrible service and attitude from Berlin, we decided to get dessert somewhere else. This was our 3rd visit here and thus far the service has been unimpressive, but this was by far the worst service we've gotten anywhere in awhile. We had to ask for water for our toddler 3 times. OMG! This is the worst "Mexican" food I've ever had. I wasn't super hungry so I ordered one octopus taco (by the way, everything is a la carte so no rice and beans on the side). The corn tortilla was swimming in grease, I had to scrape off as much as I could. The actual octopus was cooked well but there was melted cheese on the greasy tortilla, like a quesadilla and whatever sauce they had on the octopus was terrible. I couldn't finish my one taco. The atmosphere is pretty nice, I had a res and got seated right away, the hostess was super nice and pleasant, the food and follow up service is where I believe there could be improvement. I agree with a previous review that the chips taste like run of the mill store bought chips. The tacos look great on the menu, and when they first arrived the tortillas were so soft and warm, but by the time I got to my 2nd of 3 tacos the tortillas were breaking and falling apart. The flavor of the rajas con queso and mushrooms is a bit lacking, it has the right consistency and look that I expected but tasted plain and without seasoning. The kid's quesadilla tasted like a quesadilla anywhere else but super oily. I wanted to order more and asked for a menu and received one but waited and waited to try to order more that by the time the server came back we all just wanted to leave. Most definitely a skip in Folsom, I'm curious to try the Roseville location to see if there's a difference as it was Michelin recognized. read more

Hostess welcomed us upon arrival. We requested patio dining in which they were able to accommodate us. The food was served in a timely manner. We had shrimp tacos, fried chicken tacos and carnitas. They offered 4 different salsa's (mild-spicy) with chips. The food was excellent. The ambience was relaxing. The indoor dining was very contemporary and dimly lit ( if romantic is your vibe). The day was beautiful so we opted for outdoor seating, which they had umbrellas to block the sun. Very nice choice, I will be returning. read more
