I visited Back Bistro on a Tuesday afternoon after work. I'd been there before to host a group of 30 empowering women (and one man), and the experience left a positive impression. This time, I was looking for a quiet spot to grab lunch before heading home to work some more. Upon arrival, I was greeted warmly by Trevor, who seated me promptly and even complimented my clean Vans--a small but appreciated gesture for a former sneakerhead like me. For my meal, I ordered the Steak and Blue Cheese Salad, Crispy Pork Belly, and a half-ounce of Old Fitzgerald 19-Year with an ice cube. Here's how it all went: * Steak and Blue Cheese Salad: This dish surprised me in the best way. I'm not usually one for fruit in my salads, but the apple added a fresh, pleasant touch. Since I don't like blue cheese, I swapped it for parmesan, which worked beautifully. The portion size was perfect for one, and I'd absolutely order it again. * Crispy Pork Belly: Unfortunately, this dish didn't quite hit the mark. While the crispiness was spot on, the overwhelming fattiness coated my mouth, leaving an unpleasant buttery sensation. The pork meat itself was dry, and the sauce didn't balance the flavors as well as I'd hoped. I'd suggest experimenting with a soy-based sauce--perhaps something with minced garlic, chili pepper, cilantro, and soy for a salty complement to the richness. * Old Fitzgerald 19-Year: A definite win. My only hiccup was with the ice. I requested a small piece to serve with the bourbon, but Trevor delivered a large cube on the side. This was likely a misunderstanding on my part, and Trevor's attentiveness and effort more than made up for it. Back Bistro is located in the Palladio near the movie theater, offering a cozy and inviting ambiance. The restaurant features indoor and outdoor seating, with a fire pit for chilly days. Inside, the bar area is the first thing you see--a welcoming space I would've gravitated to if I hadn't needed to work after lunch. Trevor stood out for his kind and attentive service. One moment that resonated was when I asked his colleague for a to-go box, and Trevor stepped in a second later to check if I needed one. When the box arrived, he offered to box up my food without hesitation, showing initiative and thoughtfulness. It's these small touches that elevate the dining experience. Back Bistro remains a solid choice for good food, great bourbon, and warm service. While there's room for improvement with some dishes, the overall experience--enhanced by Trevor's hospitality--makes me want to return. read more

My friend and I went to visit someone in Folsom. We went here for lunch and even ate outside even though it was in the high 90's. Our waiter was awesome. This was our first time here and it was the best customer service we've had in a long time. Definitely will go back when we are in the area again The food was delicious. Great service, good atmosphere. The gnocchi and macaroni were absolutely horrible. Gnocchi's were assaulted by too many artichoke hearts and very to little to no seasoning. The "sauce" was essentially artichoke water and a dried tomato slice. The gnocchi itself felt like I was eating play-doh...(if one was to ever eat play-doo of course). It stuck on rough of my mouth and I had to remove it with a wire brush (jk). My wife thought she had Covid due to the lack of flavor. But one sip of the overly sugared Margarita reassured her that she was not ill. I went in today around lunchtime with a group of 9 women celebrating a bride-to-be. We were excited to try everything having heard from close friends about the excellent food and friendly employees. My mother was kindly accommodated by Jake, going above and beyond to plug in her oxygen tubes. Our server, Nate, was a kind and sparky young man, dabbling in playful banter with the group, keeping us all engaged. He was an excellent server, balancing knowledge of the menu (including drinks, which is impressive for his age) with charisma. We also encountered a lovely young girl and young man who assisted in our experience and made sure everything ran smoothly. The wait staff did an excellent job in balancing our group with the others in the restaurant, and I noticed the expertise in their timing with clearing plates and refilling waters. The food was beyond incredible. I tasted multiple of the dishes and, despite my picky palette, I enjoyed them all. The drinks were also delicious, a perfect balance of flavor and sweetness as to not overwhelm the taste buds. First off, customer service was excellent from host to server, busser, and bar. Everyone was very polite and welcoming! Now to the food, the prawns and scallops was cooked very well. Moist and flavorful. Risotto that accompany it was okay, I had better. The wife love the pairing of the sea bass with the sweet savory rice. I tried some and agree with her. Environment is nice, not too dark, spacious and a beautiful bar. Outdoor sitting is available as well with heat lamps. Overall, food and customer service is great. We enjoyed it and would come again. Was there for a late lunch with two friends today and we all loved it. The lamb burger I had was really delicious, so was the salad and the steak and shrimp starter for three was super. Went here today for the first time for Happy Hour. Just wanted a drink and snacks. There drinks and food were very yummy. We tried their Moscow Mule, Pine in my Coconut and the Aromatic Old Fashion. All the drinks were well made and great flavor. For food we had the Truffle Fries, Mushroom Flatbread and their Hummus Board. Right amount of snacks to go with our drinks. Back Bistro is spectacular! From the ambiance, to the service, and especially the food! We ordered a bunch of items including the steak, prawns and potato appetizer, the goat cheese fritters and then pork belly. All three appetizers were amazing. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare, the sauce on the goat cheese fritters was so tasty, and the pork belly melted in your mouth. For entrees we ordered prawns and polenta, scallops and prawns, and chicken Parmesan. The prawns and polenta were delicious! Prawns were cooked perfect, polenta was tasty, and the tomatoes were a big hit. I wish they put more tomatoes on the entree. For the scallops and prawns...again everything was cooked perfect. The scallops were so tasty and the sauces were beyond amazing. The chicken Parmesan was very good as well. I do wish the portions were bigger. They all felt pretty small. We ended the night with the seasonal crème brulee and French press coffee. I don't know what kind of coffee beans they use, but I would love to buy some! Lol. The crème brulee was delicious. Tonight was our first endeavor to Back Bistro. We chose Back Bistro due to the smaller menu and casually-upscaled ambiance. To start, the front of house could use some improvement as there were three couples including us who waited at least 5 minutes before anyone spoke to us. Also, there was no seating available as the wrap-around pub-height seating extends to the entrance. There is a full bar and the bar tenders are excellent. The servers are attentive. The chefs are fantastic. The food is amazing! To drink, my wife got a lemon drop and I got the black cherry old fashioned. Both were excellent! For our app, we shared the Crispy Pork Belly which was a little more salty than we would've liked. For our entrees, she got the Grilled Chicken & Gnocchi and I got the Fall Pasta. The Gnocchi dish came in a lusciously delicious sauce that could really use either more gnocchi or some flat bread to dip in as it comes with a lot of sauce. The pasta comes with the most amazing cubed butternut squash and savory toasty cream sauce. For our dessert, we both ordered Adult Affogato; hers with Espresso Liquor and mine with Ballotin Chocolate Mint Whiskey. Both were delicious, although I preferred the espresso liquor. This is definitely something we will do at home with espresso. We will be back! read more

Our first time there. The restaurant was beautiful. Three of us order the Niciose Salad and it was amazing, included prawns, jammy eggs,house marinated green and black olives, roasted brussel sprouts and a light dressing. Our other friend ordered the pastrami sandwich and she loved it. She could only eat half it was very generous portion. The best part was our server a young man named Dru. He was extremely polite, informative or if he didnt know he would check for us. It's refreashing to see the honest care and service he provided to all of us. We will be back. Came here for Happy Hour, they have a decent HH menu from 3-6 Daily. The food was just ok. It wasn't memorable. My drink was good but a little on the sweet side. The pork belly I wanted to try was out today. Food was 3/5... ambience 4/5... and drinks 4/5. Disappointing Valentines Day Dinner. Arrived for an early reservation and was seated right away. Then, it was no less than 20 minutes before a server finally came to our table. And this is after I flagged down bus persons twice asking for our server. Finally, they pulled someone off another station and she came to serve us. Got a couple cocktails and ordered dinner. Cocktails came up quickly (thanks for that!) but then the first course of the Prix Fixe three course meal came out immediately after the cocktail was served. Who wants to eat shrimp scampi with angel hair pasta with their Old Fashioned? Then, they dropped off the second course hastily and I had to interrupt and ask for a glass of wine. So, we were ignored and then quickly pushed through the food mill. It's nearly $100 per person for the Prix Fixe Valentines meal (with a glass of wine). I expected more. We typically really enjoy the Back Bistro but they disappointed us - we will eat at home next Valentine's Day. I will say that other tables around us seemed to get good attentive service. I suppose maybe we just drew the short straw on this night. read more

Amazing Happy Hour here !! Cool and sophisticated bar and restaurant. I have been several times normally by myself after a spa visit or shopping at the Palladio. Normally I sit at the full service bar. Honestly I usually get the same item which is the steak salad however not included on the happy hour menu. The salad consists of Mixed greens with steak, blue cheese, tomatoes, red onions, apples, topped with home made croutons & maple dressing. Unfortunately the last few times they have left off a few crucial items as such the apples or croutons and been pretty stingy with the amount of steak that is added. Not sure if I will continue to order or at least remind the server beforehand. The servers are friendly and normally the service is efficient and accurate. If you are a bourbon fan they have a custom make your own old fashioned that you can order. Next time you are at the Palladio looking for some good drinks & eats check this place out ! read more

I've been coming to Back Bistro consistently as one of my go-to restaurants in Folsom for date night or taking friends/family out. The environment is always so clean and inviting. The service is spectacular and they really cater to your preferences. The food is definitely the top factor that brings me back. Some honorable favorites are the steak and potatoes, carnitas tacos, pesto chicken (pictured), and house burger. With sauces made in house and other components freshly made, the food is always so delicious and full of flavor, definitely worth the price. Went to the bistro for happy hour with friends late this afternoon. There's a nice outdoor patio and roomy interior dining area. We sat outdoors since it was such a beautiful day. There's a great selection of items on the happy hour menu. We had the cream cheese rangoons, hummus board, poke nachos, and flat bread pizza. We also ordered the Brussels sprouts off the dinner (sides) menu. The cream cheese rangoons had a little spice to them. They were good, but you really have to like melty cream cheese if you order them because they were very cream cheesy. The hummus board was great. There was a garlic hummus that was super good on the carrot and celery sticks that came on the board. The chips on the board were a little underwhelming because they were thin and crispy but lacked any specific flavor. But if you just use them as a vessel to eat the tasty hummus, you shouldn't be disappointed. My friends liked the poke nachos that we ordered off the appetizer menu as opposed to the happy hour menu since the appetizer was a larger portion. The flatbread pizza was good, lots of spice due to the pepper flakes on a super thin crispy crust. I think we all agreed that the best dish we ordered was the Brussels sprouts. They were surprisingly light, crispy, not greasy and so very good with the balsamic glaze. We tend to get Brussels sprouts whenever we see it on the menu and so far these have been the best we've had. I'll definitely try bistro again since we enjoyed happy hour, but I think next time we'll also try dinner. read more

Came here to meet some friends and their young kids for dinner at 6:30 on the Saturday after thanksgiving. There is a parking garage a few shops down from the restaurant for easy parking. The waitress was super attentive and very great with the young kids, getting their food order in right away so they wouldn't get fussy. We started with the side of brussel sprouts as an appetizer that were delicious. Our table got the burger with the seasonal veggies ($4.50 extra), fall pasta, and beef stroganoff for meals. Came here for dinner with my beautiful girlfriend on Monday evening. We were waiting for our movie to start and this restaurant happened to be next door to Palladio 16 so it was a 1st choice to stop by. We walked in and happened to be Happy Hour ( 3-6pm) so we quickly ordered appetizers and waited for our food. They arrived fairly quick and we quickly devoured every bit. They were fantastic and delicious. Ahi poke wontons (spicy): ***** (only came with two but delicious) Goat cheese fritters: ***** (five pieces of crunchy goodness) Braised pork belly: ***** (crispy, crunchy, yummy... to die for) Seared Ahi Tuna & crispy rice cakes: **** (seared tuna was coated with sesame seeds and was delicious and the rice cake was filled with sesame seeds, deep fried golden brown) 19 out of 20 stars or 95%, earning 5 stars from me. Our group sat in the outdoor patio which was lovely...plenty warm, comfortable setting and great duo playing music!! We had the ahi poke (only 2 /plate) which was tasty, the crispy pork belly (yummy) and mushroom flatbread (very yummy). Braised short ribs/polenta and Salmon Niçoise salad for dinner were excellent! Staff is super friendly and remembers your name. They have a great selection of specialty craft cocktails and Trevor and Garrett are very knowledgeable about the spirits they carry and the drinks that would be a good fit for your preferences. Food is spot on. Great portions, they even have a happy hour with smaller portions of some of their dishes that is fantastic. Even just the bistro fries are so tasty. Seasonal options, and fresh ingredients, this is one of my favorite spots in Folsom. You have to try the pork belly and the sticky toffee pudding! read more

We had great service and very good food. We started with the hummus and margherita flatbread appetizers. Both arrived quickly. Oh, and they have happy hour everyday, so apps and drinks before dinner were at HH prices!! My daughter and I ordered the salmon and it was delicious. My husband, son, and soon to be son-in-law ordered the short ribs. My husband was a bit disappointed with his because his short rib was all fat, but the other two thought it was perfect!! We stopped in for a date night happy hour. I'll start with the positive. The decor is lovely and the service was perfect. Their kitchen was backed up and the server was apologetic, friendly and kept us informed. Unfortunately, the food was pretty underwhelming. The pork belly bites were probably the best but they were served with a sauce that did nothing to brighten them and cut the heaviness. A little acid would have done wonders but it had a rich sauce instead. The poke thing we ordered was out so we got a poke wonton thing instead. It was literally 2 bites. I feel sorry for anyone paying non happy hour prices for that bite. We also got some garlic fries which were hot and good. A margarita flatbread pizza was the last thing we ordered. This was just sad. The tomatoes were not good, the basil was microscopic and the crust was unsatisfying and bland. I wish people would take these off the menu when tomatoes are not good. Were they busy? you ask, moderately. It was more than 5 minutes, more like ten. The hostess walked by and we said something and she got our server. Nice young man, obligatory sorry. We ordered our drinks and French fries. Here's the next wait. Again more than 5 minutes. Water came. Drinks were ok timing wise, but it wasn't our waiter and our friends drink wasn't what he ordered and no fries. Asked for the fries. Coming they are in the window. They seated 2 people next to us. Tick tock, another long wait. Waiter comes to take our order still no fries. Another round of drinks and we ordered. Know one has come to the other table. Here comes fries and other tables water. Dinner came it was good not great. 2 of us had the Newyork, mine was over cooked as my friend likes his well and I'm med rare girl it was a good medium. The red potatoes and polenta were very good. Dinner over all was good. Service was off. I've been before and had better service. Our server seemed preoccupied elsewhere. He was not outside so no idea what he was doing. read more
