Brian was the nicest bike shop owner we met on the Outer Banks. We came down for a week during off-season in March. I needed an adult tricycle. The shops i called/visited hardly even said sorry. They pretty much threw up their hands. Brian on the other hand said his were in storage until April. I guess he read my disappointed and agreed to get one out and ready for me for the day after next. You can't imagine how pleased AND happy I was!!!! I LOVE RIDING A BIKE! I'm a tad older and feel more secure on a tricycle!!!! Brian was GREAT!!!! Thank you Brian. read more

Owner was great, he really knows his bikes and is a nice guy. Good pricing too and quality work.

Great work, great price, highly recommend they did a great job repairing my bike. Thanks!

I've been looking for a certain bike and noticed this shop carries the brand and stopped in while traveling through. He didn't have the model I was looking for but I stayed and talked with owner who was very knowledgeable and informative. Didn't try to up sell and even let me know about the gravel scene in the area. read more

Arrived to Manteo for a week of blissful disconnection from the everyday hustle and bustle when, after five minutes of unpacking, my bike decides to take a concrete nap on the drive side, thus knocking the rear derailleur out of whack and slightly bending the hanger. After all the unpacking dust settled, I searched high and low on the interwebs for local bike shops with solid ratings on mechanics. A few popped up in the searches but they were all peppered across the sound in-between Duck and Nags Head. Not exactly convenient to Manteo nor much in the way of useful knowledge in the reviews... thus why I'm posting this here. Here's the thing folks... any monkey with a credit card can buy some bike tools, tinker on bikes and call themselves a "mechanic". There is no minimum qualification for the title but there are a multitude of intricacies, nuances and details that only a seasoned and experienced true mechanic will recognize and have the ability to troubleshoot. When a cyclist finds a solid mechanic, he/she will likely follow that mechanic to the ends of the earth for adjustments and service beyond the shadetree abilities. While I consider myself more advanced than the average DIYer, I haven't invested the money in many of the specialty and single-purpose tools of the trade. I leave those to the pros that make a living with them... the craftsmen. Being that it was already 5pm and unlikely that I would find a bike shop open; I side-stepped the bike and went for a short run instead. Luckily, I decided to run along the main drag through Manteo and get a general idea of the town's character. About halfway into my run and at my turnaround point, I had to make a choice; either turn right and head into historic Manteo by the waterfront or do a 180 and head back the way I'd come. I opted for the turnaround and switched to the other side of the street. This would prove to be the best decision of the vacation. Not one block into the return leg did I pass the big blue building with some bikes out front and riders all gathered in front. Score! I whipped around and inquired to any employees when Brian introduced himself and informed me he'd be open at 9am the following morning. This was fate stepping in as I had been shouldering a load of ill-content since the bike had fallen over. Not long after 9am the following morning, I popped in, had a great conversation with Brian (shop owner/mechanic) and left the bike in his capable hands. He remarked it would take a couple of hours to work through his other stuff and I'd get a call when it was ready. This gave us ample opportunity to walk down to the historic waterfront, take in the sights, grab a spot of lunch and walk back. Right on the money at 11am, I received the call that the bike was ready to roll and picked it up without irreparable damage to my wallet. There are not many instances where I'm genuinely impressed by a business or situation but this was one of those rarities and I felt it necessary that Brian get some attention for his craft and business. He rents all manner of bikes, sells some very nice looking cruisers and hosts rides out of the shop when the weather is cooperating. I hope you'll take the time to visit Manteo Cyclery, speak with Brian and give him some business. I'm pleased to say I found his shop and will continue to return. read more

Manteo Cyclery - Bikes Near Me - Manteo, North Carolina

Rented a bike for the week. Price was very competitive, bike was in great shape, and the inclusion of a basket and lock was very nice! Bike was already there when we showed up to our rental house. Super easy to reserve online. So why 4 stars? It wasn't picked up on the day I expected. We left it locked to a post and called after we left the next morning. Staff was friendly, helpful, and apologetic and said not to worry about it they would pick it up. Really a minor thing, but I just can't give out 5 stars because of it. I would still absolutely try them again next year. read more

Brought my bike in for a tune up. Excellent and friendly service. Was given a referral to another store for some bicycle apparel. That place was was an equally pleasing experience. Glad I found this place on Yelp! read more

Great job, responsive when I had a question, and more economical rentals than from all other options around!

This is an awesome little bike shop in an area that badly needs more of this type. The gentleman that owns the place is very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. The shop is stocked well for the basics one needs. read more

Manteo Cyclery - Location of Coastal Bearings Bike Shop (Repair, Sales and Rental) - Bikes Near Me - Manteo, North Carolina

Just had my fat tire beach cruiser serviced by Brian today. The gears were not working, would not shift and the front brakes had an issue. I dropped in without an appointment and Brian took my bike right in and had everything diagnosed and repaired in the time it took me to go grab some lunch and return. Great service and very helpful. I would highly recommend Brian and Manteo Cyclery!! read more

We were out of town for vacation and our tire was damaged by what turned out to be the exhaust pipe. They replaced the tire and filled the tube in a matter of minutes and even gave up a sale by offering a quick fix solution to avoid future damage. The price was so cheap I am not even sure they charged for labor. We are so grateful thank you!! read more

Because of Brian, the owner, we had a fabulous experience exploring OBX via bicycle for 5 days! The bikes we rented were in perfect condition and appropriate for our experience level and the path type we would be choosing. When we asked for path suggestions, he provided a great map and pointed out several paths he thought we would enjoy. He was efficient throughout the whole rental process, choosing the right size bikes then making adjustments for our comfort. The rentals included all the necessities...great quality helmets, saddle bags, combination locks. We could not have asked for anything beyond what Brian provided. We will DEFINITELY rent from him every time we return to OBX and will recommending him to everyone needing bicycles! THANK YOU. Brian! We wish you MUCH continued success! read more

Knocked out my problem quickly and efficiently and took care of a lingering problem the box store tuners haven't been able to fix. Brian did a great job and I know I'll be taken care of in future visits. read more

We rented fat bikes for the week. Manteo offered to deliver them to Corolla and pick them up at the end of the week for no extra charge. Bikes were in perfect, new condition (unlike virtually everything else that gets rented in OBX!) We had so much fun biking in the 4x4 area along the beach. Definitely would recommend them! read more

Do not... do NOT trust what the owner of this bike shop tells you. He told me he was going to sell his rental bikes off on October 1... which I confirmed three times before I left. I desperately needed a bike because the one I had got stolen. I then showed up right when he opened on October 1, and he had already sold them. So much for taking someone at their word. As much as I want to buy local... you'd be better off getting a bike from someone who's an ethical professional in another town... or get it from Amazon. Sheesh. read more

Great new local bike shop. We send all our guests down for bike rentals to tour Manteo. The owner Brian is one of the best mechanics on the beach. Good addition to the local scene. read more

First time visitor since I was in the area. Brian has a great shop with nice bicycles of all types for rental. Also, very customer friendly, even though he knew I was not in for a rental or repair he spent time chatting with me like I was his best customer of the day. Very knowledgeable on the types of bikes as well as the equipment he has in his shop for repairs of anything from a bad tire to changing pedals or making brake repairs. I have marked him in my contact book as the place to come when I am back in this area on vacation again next June. read more

Wonderful experience. Bike looks great, rides great. Very reasonable pricing as well. Thanks, Brian.

Cheap and quick service! The owner, Brian, knows his stuff and was able to help to fix a few different problems I had with my bike. Charged me a very fair price (significantly less than I expected to pay) and worked quick. I wouldn't take my bike to anyone else! read more

Rented 2 beach cruisers for my husband and myself over the phone before our arrival. The gentleman I spoke with was courteous, and call s me back promptly when I had left a voicemail message. The bikes were delivered to our rental house when we arrived, and picked up shortly before we left as we had scheduled. The bikes appeared to be brand new, or were at least in excellent condition. The cost of each bike included a helmet, lock, and a bike basket, which most other companies did not include in their rentals, but for which they charged the same price. Best deal in the area for a bike rental in my opinion. Overall great experience. read more
