The owner, Mike is fantastic. My fiancee brought his tri bike down to Duck to ride during our vacation. To transport it, he took it apart but couldn't get it back together again. We happened upon this shop (via the advice of locals). Mike put it together quickly, for free, and wouldn't let us give him any money. He was not only generous, but he was a good guy. He had a gentle, easy way about him - striking up genuine conversation with all of his visitors, like he was an old friend. I recommend either of his two shops to anyone visiting the OBX. I rarely give perfect scores to businesses. They most certainly deserve it. I heard him helping other people ahead of us in line and he knows his stuff. read more

Great bike shop on the Outer Banks. I've rented road bikes here several times when we come down for vacation. The bikes are in great condition and set up properly. I brought my own bike to town and upon arrival found it needed repair. I called Kitty Hawk Cycle Co. and found the owner very helpful. I arrived the next day and he did the repair quickly while I waited. The best part, my bill. I don't want to tell you what I paid for the repair but I tried three times to pay him more and he would not hear of it. The shop is nice. The rental bikes look to be in great shape and the rates are incredibly reasonable, but if you need a repair I would travel past other bike shops to get to this one. read more

As a first time visitor to OBX, I did not know what's the "best" bike rental to go. I stopped by Mike's (the owner) shop by accident. This is a very small self-owned business that you won't find coupons in the big magazines you get at the resort or hotel. But it is DEFINITELY worth coming and rent your bike here. The owner is very friendly, he will explain all the bike route to you in detail. If you come during the low season, you can get a $15 dollar for a week rental!!! The price is unbeatable, and the service is unbeatable. If i come back again, I will definitely come here and rent bike from him! Keep in mind, he does have higher tier of bike for rental, of course, at a higher rate. read more

Unfortunately, I had a negative experience with a repair here. I'm sure they do a good job in the rental dept, but when it comes to repairs, there is a lot left to be desired. In a nutshell, my bike wasn't fully repaired and the owner would not take responsibility for it. Not cool. I then took my bike to the Kill Devil Hills shop down the road, and my problem was fixed at cheaper price. (I had my credit card company remove the cost of the "repair" at the Kitty Hawk shop) Happy Biking! read more

I go past this place several times a day and I see the owner talking with people and wearing an apron. When a friend asked where she could take her tire to get a new tube I suggested she go here. Unanimously voted by a committee of two- MVP of our trip! We rented a beach umbrella and chair for a day rental. In addition, Mike gave us great tips about bike paths, beaches and ice cream. Michael was so friendly and helpful. My girl and I were lucky enough to be able to reserve a road bike only a couple weeks away from our vacation. For $80, we got a week with a Fuji Newest 1.0, a decent mid-level road bike with Shimano Tiagra and 105 components. We had some issues with flats and they replaced the tube, wheel, and rim-tape for free and oh so very fast. Like everyone else in the OBX, they offer cheaper cruisers for rent if you don't need much. If you want to rent a nice road bike, make sure you book ahead of time (common sense, really). For rental or repair service in the Outer Banks, this is the place to go. read more

I rented a road bike to keep up training during family vacation last year. The quality of bike and service was great. He helped me map out a really nice 25 bike loop. I remember it fondly and called about a bike again this year. Michael was totally helpful. I really liked my bike last time and he said it's because he's a fitter and that can really make the difference. If I didn't live across the country I'd buy my next bike here. read more

Great bikes at great prices. Mike is very personable and takes the time to size the bikes and map out trip options.....and gives you the map. He just got in the sand bikes with the huge tires as well. Here is a bike shop that turned to renting. He knows the bikes and they are an incredible ride. Will go there again. read more

Would definitely recommend. I always rent bikes regardless of where I'm at. The guy who owned the shop was extremely nice and gave me some insight on the good places to eat, and cool sights to see. I would give 10 stars if I could! These guys are great, they've been consistent with quality bikes, competitive prices, and exceptional staff. My family has been renting bikes from Kitty Hawk Cycle Co for the past 6 or 7 years now. The bikes are and extremely well maintained and the owners are super friendly and helpful with any customer service needs. They have been very accommodating when we've had last minute order changes or when we needed to swap out a bike for a larger one we arrived because we underestimated how much our daughter grew. Over the years, I have rented cruisers, youth bikes, a tag-along, beach chairs, umbrellas, and a body board. All of the items we have rented have been in "like new" condition and were delivered before we even arrived to our rental house. One year I made the mistake of renting some of our bikes through a deal with our vacation rental company, and I will never do that again. The bikes from the realty company were very cheap and not in good working condition, the chairs were super heavy and did not carry easily to the beach, and the umbrella arrived already broken. If you need bikes or beach gear, Kitty Hawk Cycle Co is definitely the place to rent from in OBX. They will go out of their way to make sure you are happy with your rental experience, and they value having repeat customers. I look forward to renting from them again this summer :) read more

we thought what a cute place, nice owner. test rode a bike we wanted to purchase. left to think about it, came back, rode it again, with more questions. never bought a new bicycle or that brand before. Didn't know any details about it or what accessories I would need. Said, ok, ready to pay and get fitted. Mike said "I decided not to sell it. You questioned me too much." WHAAAAATTT? Then he said he met his quota for the day and didn't need to make the sale. WHAAATTTTTT? Who does not want to make a sale any time of the year, let alone in the off season. Family owned? Hope his family owns something else. Will not go there, no rental, no sale, no recommendation. Have lived near this area for 27 years, know lots of people who spend lots of time here including us. NO WAY. Keep your bikes, Mike. Completely dissatisfied. And told the guy outside the store who stopped by after we were ready to pay. Bad business. read more
