Knowledgeable; reasonably priced; centrally located and friendly!! Quick turnaround!

We've rented bikes at almost every beach we have visited and were excited to do the same here. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. It looks terrible, unkept. Employee working was rude when we called on the phone as well as unhelpful. When we came to get our bikes (since no ETA could be provided on a delivery time except "sometime tomorrow I think") we stood for 40 minutes only to receive rusted and beat up bikes and a kiddie cart that was full of dirt and sand and so wore out it won't stay closed. For $302 for four bikes for three days this is unacceptable. I also asked if I could have a receipt. No. Do I need to sign anything? No. Do you need to mark our name off a list? No. Do you need to write it down so you don't deliver our bikes tomorrow since we picked them up? No. They literally did not check the online reservations or ask for our name or confirmation number. Basically they have no system other than taking your money online for shit bikes. We could have walked in and just got these without paying for them! read more

We were hoping to learn more about e bikes, with the possibility of buying sometime in the future when we stopped by Outer Bikes Bicycle. Chip was extremely knowledgeable about different brands and advantages/disadvantages and answered all of our questions. He listened to us and gave helpful information. He had a good selection of bikes. We decided to buy a bike today, and he outfitted it for us on the spot. Great service and price, we're extremely happy with our purchase. read more

I took my bike in for a tune up. I was told it would be a day or two. I asked if it was possible to have it done sooner. The little punk tells me "sooner would be immediately wouldn't it?" Then turns his back on me and ignores me. A simple no would have sufficed. I wasn't being rude and I was with my daughter. So I took it to a bike shop in Manteo, had a tune up done within a few hours. And I got a referral to another store in Kill Devil to buy bicycle clothing. Both of those stores were the complete opposite of this crappy store. Service was great and I happily spent more than I had intended to when I went to them. read more

Awesome place to rent quality bikes from if you're in OBX. We called on the way to Duck after our bike rack suffered some technical difficulties, and the bikes were waiting for us at our rental when we arrived. Best of all, delivery was free! Outer Banks Bicycle even went the extra mile and popped over to replace a flat tire, free of charge. Overall, the service was quick, reasonably priced and extremely convenient, and the bikes themselves were great. read more

This is a no frills bike shop. No glossy showroom just a lot of different bikes for sale. Large inventory and plenty of repair parts too. Very knowledgeable staff that doesn't put any pressure on you and happy to answer questions. We were not sure what type of bike we wanted but after telling them what we liked, they made a good suggestion. Even let us test drive it in the parking lot. I felt like we got a good deal so we bought a Cannondale. Just to be sure I checked online and they were very competitive. Happy to buy locally and know if we need service they are there for us. Sometimes that in itself is worth paying a little more, but in this case we seem to have saved money buying local. They also have used bikes and they repair just about any brand of bike. read more

So here is a current (not old review) - they are RUDE! And they took us for a ride on their prices. If I could give a 0 star I would. They overcharged us and just didn't care about us at all. Then I found out from their competitors that they have a history of overcharging and not taking care of their customers. Be warned!! read more

E-bikes delivered with one LCD screen completely smashed and neither bike had a thumb throttle trigger. I was expecting fully functional bikes for $600 per week but when I called I was told "huh? Throttle trigger? Oh, uh, yeah we remove those, they're peddle assist only." Kind of defeats the purpose of an e bike, especially since I was renting one of them for my dad who has a problem with his leg and cannot peddle. I was offered no remedy. Two junk bikes that weren't even fully functional. Edit: two hours later and the owner agreed to "fully"refund the bikes but is charging $50 to pick them up. So, time will tell how fast I get a refund on my credit card. Will update with a higher rating if I get the refund in a timely manner. read more

Chip is a local, honest businessman on the Outer Banks. He and his staff are always accommodating. In person or on the phone Outer Banks Bicycle is helpful and takes time to listen and ask questions. I bought a very expensive bicycle from them about 15 years ago and it still looks and works like new. Even in our salt environment on the Outer Banks the bike has held up well. This guy was great! I am assuming the gentleman I interacted with was the owner. At any rate, I arrived a half hour before the posted hours of business; but, the door was open so I ventured inside. The guy inside was gracious and did not snarl at me for my transgression. :-) I am one the transient weekly renters who descend upon the Outer Banks this time of year. Somewhere during my drive to the beach my bike seat blew off. Who knew that was possible? At any rate, I had them put a new seat on the bike and perform a general tune up. Bottom line is that the prices were reasonable. And, I did not feel taken for advantage of for being a captive audience. Prices and work a big A+++ Thanks! read more

This bike shop is a waste of time. I called about getting a new tire for my bike, they said they had a tire and to come on in. I got there and they told me I would have to leave the bike and they would call me when they were done. Four hours later they were about to close and still hadn't gotten to my bike and didn't know when the next day they would get to me. I ended up just taking my bike back and not spending the $75 they were going to charge me for a new tire and tube. read more

I'm thrilled at the bike I received for my rental sight unseen. They also delivered to my spot all the way in Corolla. Now the important part, I received a seemingly new Cannondale Adventure for my "hybrid" rental. I'm typically a road bike rider but hey, it's not exactly a road bike vacation spot. I was very happy with the bike, even with a "mom" seat. The tires were commuter types which made the sand spots over bike trail/sidewalks meaningless. I'm not sure I would have had the same confidence on my normal ride. So good bike, lock included, dropped off and picked up after the rental period. What's not to like. read more

I'm from out of town and this is the type of place I'd choose to have bike serviced at if I lived here. Lots of bikes and parts, but not a lot of overhead spent on frills and decor. I needed a middle chainring and some advice because I try to do as much of my own work as possible. The exact OEM chainring would have been a special order piece, but the guys were willing to dig through their box of misfit parts and find something that would get me through the week. The owner then talked me through the repair and helped me find someplace to buy some inexpensive tools to get the job done. read more

I brought my bike to the beach for a week, and during my first ride down beach road, the seat broke off of my bike.... I went in to Outer Banks Bicycle, and was helped right away! They found the best replacement seat for me, and it was a great price as well! They attached the new seat for me, and I was on my way within 5 minutes. I will say that before I went into Outer Banks Bicycle, I went to Bike Barn because it was next to our house, and I do not think I have ever been treated more rudely in a retail setting in my life... Now I know to go straight to Outer Banks Bicycle in the future!! read more

The absolute worst. Almost ruined our vacation had we not found another place that was much better and had what we needed. We were planning on utilizing bikes the whole week to get my wife, my 2 year old and myself to the beach and back. I placed a reservation 2 months in advance for 2 bikes with a child tow behind carrier. When we got to the Outer Banks we walked a mile to the store only to find that the bike with the tow behind part attached had been rented and they had no clue when it would be back. "Maybe tomorrow, maybe early next week" was the answer we got. The sales person was combative with my wife and non apologetic. "We can talk about this all day but it doesn't change anything" was what the person said. Terrible people awful management and organization, disgusting customer services. I would never recommend anyone ever use this store. I would give it zero stars if I could. read more
