The Pit has now become a long-time fixture in Kill Devil Hills. I remember when it opened. In the…read morebeginning it was just a club that would let kids under 21 so they had somewhere to go listen to bands, play games, and hang out. Then they expanded to the surf shop and built a separate building. Now they have Boardriders Grill. In the main building you'll find the "hang out" part. Downstairs on the ground floor is a stage and venue for bands and parties. On the main floor, there's a dining area and small bar. On the top floor there's some video games, pool, and chairs to chill in. Sunday is Euronight with electro/house music spinning and Thursday is Mug Night. At The Pit out back the surf shop keeps expanding so I can't even keep track of all that's offered. I will tell you that they keep up to date with all the rad stuff locals and surfers need to keep up with the island image and life. They offer board rentals, surf lessons, lots of cool stuff. One thing that's really cool is that they're home to "Skim City" which is a sick skimboarding brand. My brother used to be sponsored by them and my family was never short on encounteres with the Skim Crew! A boardsport lifestyle comes as naturally as going barefoot on the beach and The Pit acknowledges that. The Boardriders Grill has come a long way to have a following of its own. $1 tacos from 4 to 6pm and all day on Tuesdays always draw a crowd! I don't know how else to describe it but how they do -- a surf-inspired menu. My Mom loves their fish tacos and my friends and I can barely handle their burritos! Spice and gargantuan size with fresh fixin's. I love that you can eat inside or out on the front deck and the service is friendly and fast. You never know you'll run into at The Pit. Steve Pauls and Ben Sproul have done a pretty good job at keeping it up for locals and visitors alike though. Stop in and hang out...you'll have a good time.

Employee working was rude when we called on the phone as well as unhelpful. When we came to get our bikes (since no ETA could be provided on a delivery time except "sometime tomorrow I think") we stood for 40 minutes only to receive rusted and beat up bikes and a kiddie cart that was full of dirt and sand and so wore out it won't stay closed. For $302 for four bikes for three days this is unacceptable. I also asked if I could have a receipt. No. Do I need to sign anything? No. Do you need to mark our name off a list? No. Do you need to write it down so you don't deliver our bikes tomorrow since we picked them up? No. They literally did not check the online reservations or ask for our name or confirmation number. Basically they have no system other than taking your money online for shit bikes. We could have walked in and just got these without paying for them!

I called the nags head location to ask if they would take them back. The manager, Jake, explained that he would have to see them. That is just fine, so I brought them to him with all the tags and the receipt then when we grab another pair to exchange them with, the Grommet on the new pair was cracked. Jake handled it like a pro and gave us the benefit of the doubt and let us return the shorts so, I ended up spending $200 more, because he was so gracious to us. Jake was a professional and I appreciate it. He does a good job. He should be commended.

They WOULD NOT exchange the clearly defective fishing pole! Instead the worker who sold me the pole 1 hour prior accused me of getting sand in the reel! The staff didn't mind that I rudely showed up 5 minutes before they closed, and were super fast about ringing me up and getting me out the door so they could close this cool little shop up for the night.
