Our family has been vacationing in Nags Head for as long as I can remember. In years past, we brought our own tent, umbrellas, and chairs--spending time lugging everything to the beach and setting it up ourselves. But now that we're older, we decided it was time to make life easier. Enter Farmdog Beach Services. I found them through online reviews and reached out with a few questions. The customer service was impressive--quick, friendly, and helpful. One concern I had was the rainy weather forecast. They assured me I wouldn't be charged for days when setup wasn't possible. That peace of mind sealed the deal. We arrived on Saturday, and by Sunday morning our tent and chairs were already perfectly set up. This continued like clockwork every day of our trip. I have used Farmdog Beach Service for three years now. I can't say enough about the service that they provide with setting up my chairs and umbrellas. They text me when they have set them up each day and even on the days that they cannot be setup due to the weather. This year I made the mistake of booking twice and did not know until they brought me way to many chairs and umbrellas. They refunded my money for the over book. Farmdog delivers again. We reserved with them the week of July 4th. They were very responsive with my inquiries regarding confirmation and my request to have the tent be closer to the ocean (within reason). We were traveling with 3 toddlers so wanted it closer have an easier eye on them. Farmdog was very accommodating. The set up was as expected and the communication with Farmdog was stellar. The weather was sketchy on Monday and Farmdog kept us in the loop regarding setup. I would hands down recommend Farmdog. read more

Getting up and walking down to the sand and finding your canopy and chairs are already in place, and going back to the house whenever you want because takedown is somebody else's issue. A perfect 5! Incredibly relaxing and totally effortless! This is a no brainer. 2) This Business: Farm Dog Beach Service was as close to perfect as you'd expect. Easy online booking, chairs out every morning before we got there and taken away sometime after we left. A good heavy canopy with anchors so the wind wasn't an issue. The folks at Farmdog surf school are amazing. I had the privilege of spending a week with them through First Descents which a cancer survivorship program earlier this spring. I wasn't sure what to expect and was nervous about wether or not I would be strong or brave enough to get up on a board. These people not only supported us physically by bringing us out into the water and giving us the push we needed, mentally by walking us through every step of what we should expect and also emotionally holding our hands through the whole transformational process. As a 40 year old mom of 2 I wasn't sure my teenage dream of surfing would ever come true. I'm so glad I took the chance and that my new Farmdog family were there to support me. We came to OBX for a "almost fall" early October vacation to enjoy the last days of summer. When we arrived, we discovered that our rental company had not taken care of beach chairs or umbrellas, as they said they would. We reached out to Farmdog, and they were awesome. They responded right away, and communications was excellent. They also went out of the way to make sure we got the most of every day, even providing us with a cabana on the first day even though we hadn't yet gotten everything worked out - and before they even had our credit card info. My dad and I stopped by recently to look into board rentals. We were actually on our way to one of the larger (and pricier) rental shops in town, but spotted Farmdog and decided to check it out. Thank god we did! Upon arrival, we received a warm welcome and outstanding service. Inquiring about board rentals, I was shocked to learn that a foam longboard is only $20 for a 24-hour rental and $60 for a week (standard boards are also available, but I don't recall the price... but it was very affordable). Bikes are $15 for a 24-hour rental and $45 for the week. That's a steal! The gentleman (owner, I think) also let us know that we could return at any time to trade our board for a different size, if needed. With such great service and prices, we decided to rent two boards. We almost rented for the entire week, but we were advised that the surf conditions might not be as favorable later in the week. I was VERY impressed by Farmdog's integrity and the consideration for my wallet. So we rented for the day, with the option to extend our rental by phone if needed. We definitely got our money's worth! Definitely happy to give this little shop my business. Farmdog is awesome! read more

I learned how to surf in the famous land of surfing-Australia (Sunshine Coast, QLD). I went out every single weekend and took lessons from the best local surf school around. I've been out of the water for 3 years and came to Nags Head and scheduled a private lesson just to become aquatinted with the water of the OBX. Not knowing what I remembered, I was nervous! My surf instructor (Dylan) was so very talented at his craft and was a wonderful teacher. I'm a teacher so I know good explaining and teaching. He made me feel so comfortable and allowed me to pick up from where I left off. He gave me pointers throughout my 2 hour lesson and helped direct me to the best waves. I felt safe and at ease in the water and it was a completely chill and "tranquil" lesson (direct quote from Dylan). Awesome awesome experience! The surf shop workers were awesome as well. Set me up with a proper fitting wetsuit and escorted me to the setup on the beach. Couldn't have asked for a better morning and experience! Would recommend these guys to anyone looking for a great lesson and introduction into surfing. read more

We have rented umbrellas and chairs the last couple years. They have it all setup for us on the beach. We receive a text with a picture of the setup saying it's ready. My wife left her coverup one time and it was delivered the next day with a note. Very honest and reliable company. Highly recommend using them for any of your rental needs. read more

Best lesson ever! I have been wanting to try surfing for years and this experience exceeded my expectations. Mario was my instructor was awesome, he was very patient and very kindly provided the feedback I needed in order to successfully ride a few waves! I signed up for the go pro photo package which I assumed would be a little camera tacked on to the board but I was pleasantly surprised that there was a human (Mike) in charge of the go pro footage and he was awesome too. Awesome little market and coffee bar. The coffee was really high quality beans and the best cup I have ever had in the OBX hands down. I have been coming here for at least two decades so this is no small feat! We also got fresh made juices. My wife got the Nessie, a green juice that was great and I got the Hair of dog with beets and ginger. I have been on a fresh juice kick and was very happy to find a spot that produced fresh made in front of me juice. Both were tasty and made to order. Service was extremely friendly and comfortable. The only thing I would ask for was that they didn't carry Oskar blues beers in their beer selection. I'd love to see some Dales Pale Ale here. read more

They were patient and kind and understanding of those of us who are not only beginners but are dealing with limitations after having cancer. Just spent a week at an oceanfront house in Kill Devil Hills - a cabana set up was included with our rental and Farmdog Surf School set it up every morning with two tents and 18 chairs, trash can and cooler and took it down and secured it all every night. Huge bonus. Also rented a paddle board from them, which was there on our first morning with paddle and life jacket - it was used daily by almost all of us - totally worth the reasonable price. Wow!! What an amazing experience! We brought our two kids here (ages 7 and 13) and the customer service from checkout to the lessons was just outstanding! They made sure everyone in our party, not just the kids, had fun. The teaching was superb and the kids loved it. We ended up renting surf boards and paddle boards for the rest of the week.
