But now that we're older, we decided it was time to make life easier. Enter Farmdog Beach Services. I found them through online reviews and reached out with a few questions. The customer service was impressive--quick, friendly, and helpful. One concern I had was the rainy weather forecast. They assured me I wouldn't be charged for days when setup wasn't possible. That peace of mind sealed the deal. We arrived on Saturday, and by Sunday morning our tent and chairs were already perfectly set up. This continued like clockwork every day of our trip. Even though we had one bad weather day, the overall service was so good I wouldn't even mind if we get charged for it. A special shoutout to Steve, the gentleman who set up our tent each day. We had James-O and Tory and Julien and they were all great! James-O especially really took us under his wing. Very encouraging with perfect instruction. They taught us how to choose waves. Ive sent my kids this surf school/camp twice now, and would certainly do it again. This is a…read morefabulous experience for your kids if you can spend a few days in vb. Most parents drop their kids off and take care of business, but I always stick around. Two main reasons Im recommending this camp: 1. They take smaller groups of kids. Youll see another camp two streets over that has twice as many kids... as with any school, you want smaller class size. 2. Jason and his team know that this is all about fun and confidence generation, not grooming pro surfers. I've watched them get kids of all abilities to smile, by pumping kids up when they catch a wave, to giving special attention to those who are spooked or tentative. Two days there were zero waves at all... didnt matter, they paddled around and had competitions and team building exercises. My kids were just as happy as when they were catching waves. I was nervous about sending my kids to surf camp since they are the youngest allowed age to…read moreparticipate, but they had a blast and asked to do it again. I was nervous about the 1:4 ratio, but since they were on the younger end, it was mostly a 1:2 or 1:3 ratio for them. I had visions of them being pulled under a wave and being traumatized by the ocean forever, and it's true they did get hit by the board a few times, but the instructors were so positive that the kids didn't mind much, kind of like how falling is a fact of life when you're learning to walk (but we don't tell kids not to learn to walk). I learned a thing or two too - instead of reaching to a bad wipeout with "Are you ok??", I can try saying "Sick wipeout dude!" :) The one thing I would note is to pay attention to the tides - I think the camps are better at low tide.

Our experience was the total and complete opposite ending with us having to file a BBB complaint to finally receive our disc. This is definitely one of those you get what you paid for situations so buyer beware. We paid SKP in cash in full at the time of our shoot on 8/10. Our disc finally arrived on 10/19. During this time Hurricane Irene did in fact do much destruction throughout the OBX however the service we received was still below par. The communication we received from this photographer was always initiated on our end rather than her keeping us up to date on the status of our order. Promises were also never kept. She has deleted all of the evidence from her FB page but if you go look now you will see she promises shipment after shipment and there is always an excuse for why something was sent when she promised. It almost seems like she accepts payment and then you are her mercy as to when you will receive what you paid for. Throughout all of this we never received an apology or anything to make amends for her horrible service. A simple apology and change in her actions would have sufficed however the customer is always right is not even close to how she works. At the bitter end she threatened to contact her "legal team" if we used the images that we were still basically begging to receive because they were owned by her. Nevermind the fact that we had paid in full and STILL did not have them. Buyer beware.

We only had to wait 5 weeks for our…read moreproofs to be posted on her photo viewing website, but it has been 11 months and I am still bugging her about other aspects of the package we purchased. While Sarah has a great grasp on how to use her camera and very good editing skills, I would caution those looking for a photographer that will direct you or try any fancy shots. Sarah is more laid back and does not offer much in the way of direction. Overall, the photographs were good quality, but not "magical" like one always hopes for a wedding.
