I looked up the instructor online - Gabrielle Graber - and was so impressed with her work it made me a bit nervous that the class was going to be above my head. Gabe was terrific - she was able to break down the process into very achieveable segments. I made a couple of small pieces, then a life-size foot. If someone told me last week that I would make a realistic looking body part from clay as a result of this class, I would have told them they were nuts. But I did - I'm usually overly critical of my own work, but I was very happy with what I was able to accomplish. This workshop absolutely exceeded my expectations. Additionally, the staff was friendly, the sleeping rooms were spotless, and I really enjoyed getting to know Gabe. Pocosin runs workshops in all kinds of media - clay, painting, metalwork, etc. If you are looking for a creative outlet and/or a fun weekend away, go to Pocosin!

But now that we're older, we decided it was time to make life easier. Enter Farmdog Beach Services. I found them through online reviews and reached out with a few questions. The customer service was impressive--quick, friendly, and helpful. One concern I had was the rainy weather forecast. They assured me I wouldn't be charged for days when setup wasn't possible. That peace of mind sealed the deal. We arrived on Saturday, and by Sunday morning our tent and chairs were already perfectly set up. This continued like clockwork every day of our trip. Even though we had one bad weather day, the overall service was so good I wouldn't even mind if we get charged for it. A special shoutout to Steve, the gentleman who set up our tent each day. He was the kindest, most polite and personable person we've met in Nags Head in years. My mom adored him. Given the time of year, there were only 3 of us in class so it was nearly 1-on-1 instruction. I learned so much! I stumbled upon Absolutely Outer Banks a handful of years ago and I was impressed with the selection of locally made arts and crafts. Ever since, this is my go to spot for legitimate and tasteful Outer Banks souvenirs. In addition to locally made items they also have some vintage items and even some new items for sale. One item that this store specializes in is really cool resin windows that are unique and exude happiness. Absolutely Outer Banks has artwork in all mediums and in all price points. They have jewelry, wood signs, candles, prints, glass work, textiles, metal work, etc.  On my most recent visit I enjoyed looking at a vintage pin ball machine and eyeing up the beautiful array of Fiestaware. There is plenty of opportunity for ooohhhing and ahhhing.  The owner is super friendly so that adds to the overall great experience. Absolutely Outer Banks is centrally located in Kitty Hawk in the former spot of a bank.

It was so much fun, perfect for all levels of creativity/skill, and the instructor/owner was delightful. I changed my mind on my project shortly after beginning & asked if I could do a different design, offering to pay for the supplies I'd used. She was fabulous, gracious, & generous. Another aspect of her teaching style that I really appreciated was that she would help as much or as little as a student wanted. If we had done this craft earlier in the week, we all agreed that we would have gone back again, there were so many cool designs and it was so much fun. If I could give 10 stars I would.

We laid our picnic blanket right in front of the stage and thoroughly enjoyed the entire evening of great and spirited acting coupled with entertaining narration and live music accompaniment. There was a good crowd. Will definitely do this again, next time will remember to bring portable fan - but even when we didn't, the weather was tepidly bearable with slight breeze.

The process of signing up was pretty simple. It had been over 20 years since I've stepped foot inside the building. It's since been built up. There is security at the front desk and I was asked to sign in before I brought him to class. I was very impressed at the ease of everything from sign up, to drop off, and especially the teacher they had to conduct the class. My son can't wait to attend another class here!
