Was in and out quickly for a late lunch so not much to report. Sat at the bar and asked about their curry. Was recommended the duck curry. I usually take medium spice but the server recommended mild. Glad she did! Even mild had a nice heat to it. The curry was very tasty. Sweet acid of the Pineapple complimented the rich duck broth nicely. A warm and inviting environment with good food. Mango Thai is the definition of fine dining for a faction of the price. The decoration is very modern and while most of the dishes are something you'd find in every Thai/Malaysian restaurant, Mango Thai puts their own twist on it. I ordered the Masuman Curry. It was delicious. My only gripe about it was that the beef and potatoes were not tender. I found it difficult to cut through these things having not been given a knife. Hopefully the cooks will read this. The Masuman curry was more of a soup than a curry which is interesting, however, it was very flavorful and delicious. I would also like to add that if you're looking for large portion sizes, you won't get that at Mango Thai. More emphasis is placed on quality. Their Thai Iced tea is also delicious. Quality tea with condensed milk. I highly recommend it. I also had their fried banana ice cream for dessert. Not my cup of tea, but I was coerced into it by the lovely staff. It came in a martini glass, which made it difficult to eat. Utility over appearance would be more appreciated for this dish. Lastly the staff was awesome. Very attentive and great conversationalists if you sit at the bar. One of the servers Mandy was extremely helpful for someone who was new to the restaurant and Rochester. I have developed a unique liking for Thai food, but I had a really bad experience at this place. I went there for dinner and ordered crab avocado roll and pad seafood keemow (hot). The roll should be renamed as "some crab but mostly avocado roll" - it had mostly avocado (cold) and no taste to it. Sauce which came along was also okisshh , I was expecting it to be much more flavorful like the traditional Thai sauces. Pad keemow seafood, to my horror was even worse. I have never seen so thick noodles in a pad Thai, which were not amusing. I have asked for making the pad Thai hot at other places too, but it still retains a little bit of its sweetness to it (characteristic of pad thai), but these guys just made it super hot- even difficult to eat. Even their name is hard to notice. Inside it is one of the best interiors I have seen in a resturant. They have obviously spent a lot of money decorating the interior. Excellent evening out. Almost turned around and walked out the door as we spent fifteen minutes in the doorway before anyone acknowledged that we had walked in. It was very strange - there were open tables all around yet it was if the waitstaff was making a concerted effort to avoid eye contact with any of the incoming guests. Two additional couples did leave after waiting for ~10min. We were finally led to a table and from that point forward, the service was excellent. Our waiter was courteous, knowledgeable, and provided excellent recommendations. We started off with the "Crying Tiger," a grilled steak served with a spicy dry chili sauce, which was very tasty (not on the menu, so I'm not sure whether this is always available). As a spice fiend, I proceeded to order the green curry, which was listed to be amongst their spiciest dishes. It was amongst the best Thai curries I've had - but could have been spicier. I did ask the waiter how to go about asking for things to be ramped up a bit in the spice arena, and he said to specify that you would like a meal to be cooked "Thai Hot." If that didn't do it for you, ask for something to be cooked "Chai Hot" --- Chai being the name of one of the cooks. The prices aren't outrageous - around $13 for an excellent curry with rice. We were disappointed with the lack of a visible host/hostess upon arrival, but will return on the basis of the quality of the food. read more

This restaurant seems to be going for a "trendy" and "upscale" vibe, and certainly succeeds as far as decor and ambiance go - this is a fun place to sit for a meal. Unfortunately, they also charge the correspondingly "upscale" prices for their food which, regrettably, just doesn't match up. The first time I visited I just tried the pad thai, which, as other reviewers have mentioned, just didn't taste right and almost seemed like it had ketchup as an ingredient. Not cool! Chalking all this up to a fluke of a bad first experience, I returned again today and had the chicken and shrimp pad thai and an order of the green curry with sticky rice. Once again, the pad thai was a tasteless clump of noodle. At this point I'm convinced that the cooks aren't using the tamarind-fish sauce-sugar-pepper sauce base that anyone who cooks Pad Thai should be using. It is missing all the great flavor that the sauce should give it, and it didn't even have a hint of spicy. And despite being "chicken and shrimp," I had two shrimps in my dish. What gives guys?! On the other hand, the green curry was freakin' delicious. Perfect balance of sweet and spicy, and on par with some of the best curries I've had. One nice plus - these guys have a "passenger loading" lane right out front which makes take-out a breeze. Pretty rare for a downtown restaurant. read more

Located very near Mayo Clinic, this is one of the few non-American food places within walking distance. It's a cozy little Thai restaurant that may not be the best for very large parties. There is a romantic ambiance and several vegetarian options. I had the shrimp and chicken pad thai. It was alright, nothing special about it, to be honest. Chicken was a bit dry and portions were not as large as I expected from what I heard from others. I am giving 4-stars for just one reason: the time it took for our order to get to our table on a Tuesday evening (albeit a busy Tuesday evening). This is a fancy Thai fusion restaurant that I and my husband tried. We ordered Avocada Crab meat roll starters. I also ordered a Lychee Martini. Kudos to the restaurant for making it to perfection. It was yummeh. The main dishes were very well done and put together as well. While the spicy beef fried rice wasn't really spicy for me, it still tasted good. Good thai food. Was my favorite for most part of my 3 years stay Rochester. Love the ambience, a bit upscale, also due to its location. Good service and helpful and courteous staff. Love the Thai Basil Fried rice along with the Panang, Red and Green curries which I have tried a million times there. My favorite desert is the Mango sticky rice, reminds me of a dish back home in Mumbai. A couple of times have had complaints about the food being too spicy than asked or too salty than necessary, which forces me to take one star down. Love me some pad Thai! So when my colleague suggested we celebrate the end of a long week here, I was definitely in! We only had to wait about 10 mins for a table for 6 on a Friday night, which didn't seem too bad. Very nicely decorated interior, much more upscale than I was anticipating from the exterior. The upscale factor is definitely reflected on the menu prices. I wasn't too concerned, as I figured the dishes would reflect those prices....unfortunately they didn't. Don't get me wrong, my chicken and shrimp pad Thai was delicious, but it was the smaller portion of pad Thai I've seen and it only had one small shrimp in it! For $13 I shouldn't have left still hungry. I first tried out Mango Thai at their Twin Cities location and then Rochester. I absolutely LOVE the food. I would give it 5 stars. However, I gave this location 4 stars because their takeout wait is AWFUL. They give you a time to pick it up and I've had to wait an additional 20-60min every time. My friend worked there and he said it's because they put the customers dining in first, but when I went last time, only a couple of people were there and my takeout was ready 40min after they told me it would be. Absolutely terrible. So, in the end, give yourself plenty of time or dine in and you won't be disappointed! I highly recommend the Massaman Curry and Cashew Chicken main dishes and their Mango Spring Rolls and Thai Beef Jerky appetizers. Also, if you're lucky and it's the right season, the Mango Sticky Rice dessert. (NOTE: 5 months later and the takeout has only gone downhill time-wise. Still takes forever.) read more

Came here for lunch over my thanksgiving break with a friend. I used to LOVE Sushi Itto which used to be in this spot, so Mango Thai had a lot to live up to. While it was definitely pricey, the food was GREAT, the atmosphere was lovely, and the service was spectacular. I had the seafood pad Thai and my friend had the vegetarian pad Thai. We were both really happy with the spice level, the flavorings, presentation, and portions. It filled both of us up comfortably (though the portions were much smaller than Pho Thai which is on broadway), I thought mine had a decent amount of seafood (and it wasn't all imitation crab), and very tasteful. Not overly spicy, not overly peanut-y, just perfect. Definitely heading back with the family next time I'm home! read more

We have ordered carry out before with no issue at that time. Tonight was a completely different story. When I asked if I would have to wait that long for my food if I were to be at the restaurant I receive no response and then they hung up on me. Additionally, the one and only time that we did eat there they did in fact get all of our order wrong. Sadly the food is good but come on. This place takes a spin on traditional Thai. While the menu is fairly limited it still manages to cover enough ground to satisfy. As the waiter says "it's not Minnesota nice" on the heat levels. I ordered the beef Chili mint - "hot" and was sweating the whole way through...loved it! "Thai hot" may be too much for even me, a My wife got the salmon special "medium". She loved the flavor but the fish was severely overcooked. It was bad enough to where we actually complained. To their credit they did offer to send us out a new piece but we refused not wanting to wait for it. Even with the dry salmon, my wife says she'd love to go back. I hope I'm with her! read more

Nice chill place to get some good Thai food. Had the chicken and shrimp Pahd Thai with medium spice. Noodles were perfect, shrimp had good bite to it and the chicken was good too. Only a couple shrimp but good amount of chicken. Ended up being spicier than I expected so I will be going with mild next time. My date had Pad Kee Mow (spelling?) She had Thai for the first time and said it was excellent. As far as the beer selection goes I think 8 types are more than enough. There are over 20 types of wine. I've been to this restaurant twice. Ordered the same pad kee mow dish both times (once with beef and once with tofu). The first time, without a reservation on a Saturday night, the customer service was fine and the food was great! However, the second time was terrible and I will not be returning to this restaurant! I made a reservation the day before and upon getting to the restaurant on a Thursday night, none of the servers came up to ask me about a table or my reservation. Once I caught the attention of one of them, I was informed that they didn't have a table and it would be a several minute wait. After 45 minutes...a table opened up and was given to a group who came in behind us without a reservation!! When we asked what was going on, we were very rudely told that there was a miscommunication and nothing could be done. At this point it was very late to go to a different restaurant so we stayed and ended up cramming five people at a four person table. Out of the five orders, three of them were much hotter than the 'mild' we requested, and the servers were not very responsive to this issue.
