From the moment we walked in, our experience was nothing short of fantastic, thanks in large part to our amazing waitress. She was an absolute gem--friendly, attentive, and genuinely interested in getting to know our family dynamic. Before she left, she was saying, "pass this to mommy, this is grandma's, etc." SO cute! She offered great recommendations, and put some minds at ease for first time sushi goers, which made it all the more fun. I will note that we had some folks doing AYCE, and others ordered Ala carte, and this made no difference to our waitress, or Kumo! The Ala carte portion sizes were huge! The food? Hot, fresh, and delivered with lightning speed. Like seriously, I thought they had secret microphones under the table. We couldn't believe how quickly everything arrived--no waiting around, just one delicious dish after another. And let me tell you, we left so miserably full that we could barely waddle out the door, but it was worth every bite. So sad that I have to leave this place only one star. The food was pretty good. I went with my two kids who love sushi. We all wanted to try the AYCE option. My 12 yr old daughter was charged as an adult, fine. The woman who seated us explained not to waste food and the menu also says a charge will be applied for wasted food. Throughout our meal, I was careful to order only a little at a time so to make sure we would not waste. We ate everything we were served except for one roll was not finished because everyone at the table truly did not like it. The waiter came to the table and noticed the unfinished roll and insisted that I eat "three more pieces" or I would be charged for excessive waste. I told him I was not going to do that because I didn't like it. He spoke to the manager and came back saying I had to pay an extra $8 for the uneaten pieces but that I could take it home. I said I'm not going to take it home because I don't like it! I was ultimately charged the $8. We enjoyed trying all the different bits of the menu, including the hand rolls, sushi, deep fried goodies, and soups. This is a value meal for the price of $18.99/person. Some highlights were the tomago (egg) sushi, mackerel / eel / salmon sushi, eel cucumber roll, and the salmon teriyaki. The ice cream was a bit mediocre and some the pan fried items were a bit too greasy (avoid shu mai and dumpling but a yes for the shrimp / squid / taro tempura. There was a good variety of food to choose from and the food was very tasty. My table ordered our food and when it came out, they had combined the duplicate dishes and had the sushi all on one plate. This was fine as we were ok with sharing our food and eating a family style lunch. I love how it was a buffet so we can order as much as we would like. Also, some of the food has a small portion so we could order just a little bit to try each item. For example, the shrimp tempura. One order of the shrimp tempura comes with just one but if I want more, I can just order more. This comes in handy as we would be charged for food waste, which is understandable because it is a buffet and they don't want people to be wasting food. I loved the fried dumplings and the fried shu mai! The beef udon was very tasty and refreshing as well. The soft and chewy udon noodles really went well with the crunchy veggies they had in the soup. I've never had sashimi before, but I tried their yellow tail sashimi and it wasn't too bad. I was surprised that it wasn't as fishy as what I had imagined and the cucumber slices they gave with it really complimented the fish. I went during lunch. I believe the "all you can eat" price is $15.99 for their lunchtime. I was quite impressed with how fast the wait staff took my order, and with how fast my food arrived. All the hot food was served fresh and piping hot, which was nice. I ate a lot of other foods besides the sushi. I had the dumplings, chicken wings, ramen, vegetable fried rice, and fried scallops. All of the food was good. It's essentially a buffet, so don't expect to go into it expecting the best tasting sushi ever. They charge if you waste food. My sever actually asked on my second order if I "was going to eat everything." I told her that I wouldn't let her down, and I finished everything on my plate. I then ordered more food. My only complaint is that I ordered the beef teriyaki, but didn't receive it. However, I had devoured enough other food. So I will just have to wait until next visit! read more

We went there for lunch and did the "all you can eat" option. The menu is large and everything is made after you order. The only problem I had with them is we ordered one particular roll and neither of us liked it so we left six pieces. They charged us for the roll because they said we were wasting food. Nothing I could say would make them budge on it. So be warned make damn sure you like it before you order it!!! I think charging a a customer for food they don't like is ridiculous! What a great find, this restaurant just opened in summer 2018, it used to be the location of the former Panera Bread. We went here for their unlimited lunch sushi special -- you can order anything you want off of their menu and they will bring it to you, all for a flat fee. We initially ordered a few different dishes and once they were delivered to our table our server asked us what else we wanted, haha, we couldn't keep up with her. The best part is you get red bean flavored ice cream after you're done with your lunch, delicious! For the price and the quality of food, you can't beat this option, highly recommend! Today is the first day of my son's summer vacation. We wanted to celebrate, and he said he wanted to eat sushi. So we went to this restaurant because I thought it might be the best one in town. Then, the truly horrible story began. I ordered the all-you-can-eat for myself and a California roll for my 7-year-old son. Then the waitress, with an unpleasant expression, told us that my son couldn't eat any of my food. The way she told us was very unfriendly, with a cold face. But anyway, I accepted it. The California roll is more than enough for him, as he usually doesn't eat much, and importantly, he wouldn't like the spicy roll with raw fish I ordered, and I wouldn't let him taste it either. The shrimp tempura (1 piece) is the only item that is not spicy and doesn't contain raw fish. My son told me he was hungry and wanted to taste it. I told him it was probably not allowed. Then, another waitress came and told us he could not eat it. I felt weird, as it seemed like someone was staring at us to make sure my son didn't sneak a taste of my food. I felt very sorry for my son, but just told him he'd better eat his own food. But he is just a kid; he doesn't understand and kept asking me to taste a bite of the shrimp tempura. As a mom, and since we were celebrating his summer vacation, I couldn't say "No" to him anymore. I just said, "Okay, you can taste it." You know what? At that moment, the waitress immediately came and stopped my son from taking a bite of the shrimp tempura. My son was very confused and very upset. As a mom, I was very mad at their attitude and the way they talked to my son. I said I could pay for that shrimp tempura, but they said I had to order a whole serving for him, which is too much for him. At that moment, I was very angry with their meanness. Especially the owner or manager--I thought they might want to solve this and give some comfort to my 7-year-old, but they just ignored how upset my son was, repeatedly saying it's the rule that my son could not eat a single bite of my food. Yes, it's true, he cannot eat my order according to your policy. But as a little boy, how much food do you expect he could eat from my order? Especially since everything I ordered is spicy and contains raw fish he wouldn't eat, except for ONE shrimp tempura. That's how they treated a 7-year-old boy who was celebrating the first day of his summer vacation and just wanted to taste ONE bite of the shrimp tempura from my order!!! This restaurant operates with a heartless and ruthless demeanor. Don't expect a single smile or friendly gesture from anyone on staff. I'm sad that I have to leave a negative review on Kumo, but this is a vital piece of constructive criticism for not only the owners, but the website administrator/designer. FIX YOUR WEBSITE PLEASE!!! Long story short, we thought we ordered 2 Spicy Salmon rolls off of Kumo Sushi Online Ordering, but received a box full of sashimi, raw fish. Alright..... we absolutely did not order that, we actually wanted a couple of rolls of sushi. The ultimate issue is that the website coordinator decided to list Sashimi and Sushi Rolls in the same exact spot. They did absolutely nothing to clearly identify their menu items or how to correctly order them. It wouldn't have been a problem at all, if we were able to figure out another plan for our incorrect order.... considering we spent over $40. When we approached the front desk assistant, we were given nothing but attitude and rude remarks. Of course we weren't able to fix any of our order, since the worker was so invested on making us feel like idiots for not being able to navigate the poorly made website. Not to mention, we ordered the absolute simplest item, spring rolls, yet we received fried egg rolls. Just an absolute mess, so many mindless mistakes. I first went there for their soft opening, so getting 15% off my meal was a perk. The service was very friendly, but you could tell they were still learning the ropes. No problem for me - that comes with a new business! I got two sushi rolls (struggling to remember the names and can't find a menu online), and my cousin tried one of the ramen bowls (also blanking on name). The sushi was pretty good; seafood tasted fresh and presentation was beautiful. However, there isn't much variety between their speciality rolls. It seemed like they were just various combinations of crab and tuna rolls. The ramen was meh. Very average and didn't have a lot of flavor. There's other places to get better ramen (or even make it at home. I went again a different day and had their all-you-can-eat. I'd say it's definitely worth it. It's around the same price as Ichi Tokyo's all-you-can-eat, but more options than just sushi. However, be cautious of some of the things you order off that menu. They are definitely "all-you-can-eat size" - things like just two pieces of tofu with a measly sauce thrown on top. Still delicious regardless! I definitely am still holding Ichi Tokyo as the #1 sushi spot in Rochester, but Kumo is also a great option! read more

I'v dined at some of the best sushi restaurants in Los Angeles and so I know what good fresh fish is. This place definitely has good quality and fresh fish! I ate at Ichi Tokyo when I first moved to Rochester and I never went back because their quality was not good (the fish tasted fishy) and their selection was not great. Kumo Sushi definitely exceeded my expectations. Not only is their raw fish selection good, their rolls and hibachi selection are on point. For $25 AYCE (lunch is cheaper... like $17), this was excellent quality... and quantity! The AYCE menu pretty much has everything that the full menu has and the portions are relatively big (whole rolls, 4 dumplings, etc). Lots to choose from. And you can also order a la cart if you aren't so hungry. The server we had was really sweet, attentive, and friendly. The food came out relatively fast although the place was not packed when we came in for dinner on a Thursday night. This restaurant is perfectly situated next to our normal grocery store. There is plenty of parking out front. Inside is clean and very modern. It could easily be a sushi place in Jacksonville, FL or even Los Angeles. My only worry is that the population of Rochester will not appreciate the culinary deliciousness that this place is and it will close down. I really hope that doesn't happen so make sure you check this place out if you're reading this! It's sad that we are moving just a mere month after they opened, but hey, that's life. Went there today for our son's 10th birthday. It ended with the staff getting violent and aggressive with us, screaming and swearing. I still cannot believe it happened. When we arrived, we thought it seemed pretty nice inside, nicer than we expected for a small place in a strip mall. My husband was not very hungry and ordered the soft shell crab appetizer. My son and I went with the all you can eat option. I did not really want it, but they do not allow children's all you can eat without an adult all you can eat purchase. Fine, no big deal. The soft shell crab came in long strips, not as a full crab which seemed odd. My husband did not like it very much, but ate it anyway without complaint to the staff. I had some fried rice which came in a very small portion, spring rolls which came as a tiny 2-piece (smaller than a baby dill pickle each), zucchini tempura which came as 4 small medallions (each about the size of a quarter), and ramen which was very bland. My son ordered the snow mountain roll and Philadelphia roll. The snow mountain was really good, but the Philly roll was way too full of cream cheese. He ate most of it, but could not finish the last piece, it was just too much cream cheese. He then ordered a California roll to end on a high note with a roll they couldn't possibly mess up. He ate a couple pieces and began to feel full. We asked for the check. The waitress noticed our son had 4 pieces of his California roll left. She said we would be charged for "excessive waste." We asked how 4 pieces could possibly be considered excessive. She said it was their policy. She also said we could not take the sushi home even though we were being charged extra for it. There is no set amount explaining what "excessive waste" is on the menu, and 4 pieces is not excessive, we refused to pay the fee. The waitress began yelling at us, grabbed menus to show us where it says "excessive waste" but of course there was nothing that specified a number of pieces, the policy was clearly being used to gouge. She then threw the menus on the floor and continuously screamed "f*** you" at us. The manager began holding her back as if she were going to come hit us. My husband went to the front counter to pay so we could leave. The manager stood less than a foot away from him at the counter, yelling in his face, taunting my husband to hit him. Of course he did not hit anyone. The rest of the restaurant was wide-eyed, pretending to stare at their plates while the staff went absolutely wild and unprofessional. I'm still in disbelief that such violent and unprofessional people are employed there. I am the general manager of a restaurant and would never treat guests this way. I have sent employees home for far less violent behavior in order to keep a safe workplace. On top of everything, the staff knew it was my son's birthday, we told them when we arrived and they said they would sing and bring him ice cream...they never did that either. Came in for dinner on a Friday night and they were basically packed! Luckily still didn't have to wait. They had wait staff and cook staff galore. Everything came out so quickly. It was hot and fresh. Sushi was good quality and they had many rolls to choose from along with appetizers, sashimi, fried rice, noodles, tempura and more! Our waitress was so nice and attentive. Really wish we got her name. She made sure we had everything we needed and more from never letting out water go empty to making sure we always had food going and that we had everything we ordered. Came here for Easter Dinner. The all you can eat dinner is a must! For about $25 for dinner, you get the options of sushi, nigiri, Maki rolls, soups, teriyaki, sides, ice cream, and so much more. The value is amazing especially for in Rochester. I recommend the Christmas roll and the hand rolls. I would skip on the sushi pizza. It sounds good, but is all rice. The udon soup is a must, but beware you might get full from it. Definitely recommend this place for family Dinners. The service is kind and attentive. Also as a note, hot tea is not included it will cost you about $2. So I ordered shrimp tempura and only ate shrimp (not the coating outside). The waitress yelled at me in front of all other tables and told me not to order more food. I absolutely love this place. However, I'm only giving it 4 stars because of one menu item: Ramen. I am a Ramen enthusiast and I go out of my way to eat at legit Ramen places. Kumo Sushi has a version of it on their menu and it's the ONLY thing that displeases me. It's not REAL Ramen. People who have real Ramen know that it's all in the broth and the noodles. If it tastes and looks like packaged noodles, it's not real Ramen. So, if you've never had real Ramen before, don't let their version of it sway you. Go try it somewhere else, it's amazing! Now on to the menu items that Kumo does do well...their sushi is fresh and flavorful. The all you can eat option is great especially during dinner.
