Great Wall is a great pick if you are looking for takeout Chinese food in the Rochester area. I ordered a variety of dishes and ended up enjoying all of them. The dumplings were really good both steamed and fried, and the beef and broccoli was also solid. Everything tasted fresh and satisfying. I got the food to go, so I cannot really comment on the inside of the restaurant, but the food stayed hot all the way back to my hotel, which I appreciated. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try if you are in the area. read more

The original owner retired/sold the business 6 years ago. Our family has been doing take out from Great Wall on our many Mayo Clinic trips since 2000. Tonight was the first time with the new owner. I asked the wife to recommend a VERY flavorful dish. She recommended the garlic beef ( I wanted beef). It was outstanding and the BEST in Rochester. The seasoning was a 4.5 - - excellent blending of different spices creating a WONDERFULLY delicious light brown sauce, subtle garlic flavor, with Plenty of zucchini, broccoli, little green pepper, onions, mushrooms, bamboo shoots and I opted out of carrots/received more broccoli. Also rare in Chinese restaurants - - the dish was prepared with lots of sauce thus giving the dish even more flavor. Everything was very nicely chopped up in bite size pieces - - super piping hot! If the meat had first been deeply cooked in the brown sauce, and if the pork fried rice had a bit more soy sauce and flavor, I would have given them a Rochester "5". Over the years (25) I have tried a few other chinese restaurants here, and always come back to Great Wall. ( Grew up north of NYC and always ate in Chinatown.) The vegetables are always plentiful, varied fresh delicious. Portion of beef was also very good. EXCELLENT value and quality of ingredients. Restaurant has always been extremely well maintained and clean. It is worth driving over to get it so amazingly hot! Enjoy!! read more

Ordered the sesame chicken (dinner special). It came with pork fried rice and 2 crab ragoons. The crab ragoons were very, very sweet. I didn't like them but if you like them sweet, you will love these. The rice was absolutely flavorless. The sesame chicken was ok. It was a typical sesame chicken that could have come from any Chinese food restaurant. Nothing special. I don't think I will be back. 3 stars is generous. read more

The food is always hot and fresh. I have asked for veggie substitutes and have received them no extra charge. The staff are always pleasant and quick getting orders processed. The restaurant is clean and well lit. We usually take out but it would be a nice place to enjoy a hot meal close to downtown Rochester. read more

The food is pretty good but the place is a dump. The first thing we noticed when we walked in was that the soda machine was out of order and the air conditioning was not working as it was supposed to. It was stuffy inside. The bathroom was nasty and had shoe prints on the toilet seat. Our table was sticky, so I had to clean it myself after we sat down. However, the girl working the front was working hard and the service was friendly. The place just seemed dirty and unkempt. read more

This is our go to for Chinese takeout! Everything we have tried is good. I usually get the Hunan vegetables with bean curd (tofu) and my husband likes the mei fun beef. The hot and sour soup is also really tasty! The spicy dishes are just spicy enough for our tastes. And we always have enough left over for a second meal. read more

This is the best all-around Chinese restaurant in Rochester. And it's the best value of any restaurant, by far. It's a shame the current owners--friendly, efficient, skilled--are saddled with Yelp history of the former owners--unfriendly, plodding, indifferent--and their cooks always had the expressions of long-term, abused POW's. We previously thought our favorite Chinese food was in Texas. However, this was hands down the best we have ever had. General Tao's chicken......OMG! Best ever! And the portions are HUGE. Crab Rangoon was to die for......The egg rolls were also BEST EVER so we had to order many more egg rolls the next day to go with our leftovers. What a wonderful last couple meals before surgery! This place has always been a bit of a hidden gem in Silver Lake Plaza, but they've made some nice improvements to their online ordering making it even more convenient to get authentic Chineses dishes, especially for carry out during COVID-19. I just order sweet and sour chicken and crab rangoons it was horrible :-( was super greasy and the crab rangoons which I love were awful no filling and drenched in oil I threw everything away... this was my favorite place for Chinese but I will have to look for a better place. I think it's new management (notice there was different people very nice though)everything has changed even containers fortune cookies almost expired pop.... wish I could give no stars. Small, and the selection in the buffet does not match up to larger restaurants, but the food and value are both terrific. They offer a daily 11AM-1:30PM lunch buffet for $5.99, and that includes a soft drink of your choice. We ended up here while in town for basketball tournament. Food was very fresh, tasty, and a good value. We had the sesame beef with chicken fried rice. Veggies were crisp, not soft and soggy.
