Mango Medley is like a hidden gem that you might miss on a foggy SF night. There's usually nothing else around there so parking is usually easy. The place seems smaller than before, but ti's still a nice place to chill with your friends. This place is self served, so after you order from your table you will have to go get your own utensils and water. I usually get the pillow desserts here and it's pretty good. I love Durian and that's what i love to order. The pillow is like a crepe that rolled up like a square. You can get it with ice cream or just plain whip cream. I wrote a previous review on this place with only 3 stars and have decided to bump up a star since I've become a regular! Yes, their service is slow (if only they would just hire another cook back there), but the food is well worth the wait! I love their happy hour specials because the meals come with free coffee or milk tea! I have been satisfied with nearly all of their dishes, and the waitress pretty much knows what I want ever time I come. How does this place stay open?!! Me & bf came to try this place out for dinner and dessert finally and let me begin with WTF?!! Came at 7:30PM and the whole place was empty so we got seated right away, ordered our food and took them 20 + minutes to give us our food; Kimchi fried rice with beef: small ass portion and tasted like tomato fried rice with no kimchi taste or spice to it at all!!! Just plain nasty as my bf described it! Baked pork chop rice: the pork chop is so oily and nasty it left a taste in my mouth for hours! The rice tasted like overnight rice, I'm a rice person so I know how fresh rice should taste like! Oily and nasty is how I would describe the food here. We were looking for a dessert place close by Judah and very unfortunately this was the only place open past 10pm. I don't know why I even wasted my time stepping in there again after waiting for our milk tea for 20 minutes during our last visit. This time the 3 of us went in, sat down by ourselves cuz nobody greeted us. After 5 whole minutes this short girl comes out of the kitchen and hands us ONE one-page menu, O_O WOW, she sure can count! After we read about the menu 10 times front and back, there was still no sign of the girl. BTW she was the only one working, yup, cooking, taking orders, collecting money, cleaning table.. Finally we couldn't take it anymore, it felt like a self-service place.. so we decided to goto Golden Island cafe on Noriega and 20th Ave instead. It's been a while since I've entered the strangely mystifying realm of Mango Medley and decided to embark with the boyfriend into its magical, perplexing kingdom. To my surprise, this visit (probably my 4th or 5th on ever) was the best out of any of them. Some changes had been made since I last visited Mango Medley. For one, the dining room is the only place you can enter into now. Before there was another room that overlooked the kitchen, past a counter, with a huge menu over it, that made it confusing as to where to stand and wait for a table. That area is now blocked off, making the walk-in process much more straightforward, though now I'm not sure where you'd stand if all the tables are full. Probably outside. Secondly, rather than have any sort of server, the owner and chef was the one to seat us and take our order. We came in at 9:30 on a Thursday and there were only a few tables besides us. Even still, service had a bit to be desired. I was very happy that this was the first time I actually felt taken care of, though, service-wise. Thirdly, the menus for Dinner and Dessert have been updated. My go-to Salmon Pineapple Bacon fried rice is now "Pineapple bacon fried rice with choice of meat" (no salmon option, *sadface* ). And no more avocado or taro shake, (also *sadface*). The menus are so extensive, though, that it's easy to try a new thing every time you come in. And with their track record for good food, it wouldn't be a mistake. THE FOOD (!!!) as always, and maybe even better than what I remember, was so so good. Mango Medley always has a homemade quality with personal touches to it, everything I've ever ordered from here has been delicious. This particular evening we had: Beef Brisket Soup Seafood Curry w/ Rice Soy Ginger Drink, LG I couldn't decide between the Oxtail and Beef Brisket soup, but ended up going with the brisket as it came with noodles. Added egg for $1.50 extra. The flavor of the broth was out-of-this-world rich and gratifying. The meat was tender and flavorful and just like the most succulent pot roast out of a slow cooker. The addition of Asian greens and mushrooms added complexity and good texture. Yum. Seafood Curry came with some shrimp, mussels, and pieces of fish in a yellow curry sauce. Rice was extra, $1.50 or $2 I think, but you gotta have it with your curry! This dish was also delicious and we both were able to get one mussel and a couple shrimp each when sharing it. The hot Ginger Soy drink we ordered to go after paying, and it was delicious. Very spicy, warm, and sweet without being overpowering. The perfect way to end a nice night out walking into the cool evening. Although the service is still left to be desired, this has got to be my smoothest experience at this strange but delicious little restaurant. OMG! I died and went to mango heaven! The food is delicious! We had the salty fish with chicken fried rice, the kimchee fried rice with shrimp and an egg, the baked scallop rice with creamy sauce, the beef brisket in a curry broth, and a pork shoulder with white rice and vegetables. Everything was made with care & so delicious! The desserts were out of this world! Words can't describe the desserts. We had 4 mango puffs with ice cream, 2 taro puffs, a mango medley, a strawberry bliss with panacotta, and a mango bliss with panacotta and ice cream (my favorite). After our dining experience at a very atypical outer Sunset restaurant, we decided to end our evening at a Hong Kong-style snack and dessert place called Mango Medley. Just the name alone got me excited. A medley of mango delights? Count me in! The place was packed with Asian teens that all seemed to be absorbed in their anime and Asian pop magazines. I felt kind of old as I sat down and looked around me. After taking in the menu, I realized Mango Medley offers more than just snacks and desserts. The extensive menu includes vegetarian entrees, noodle dishes, rice dishes, a huge dessert menu and lots of Hong Kong-style drinks. The "cream pillows" on the dessert menu sounded intriguing. It turns out they are pillow-like mini crepes filled with things like mango, cream, purple yam and adzuki (red bean). True to the name, they were pillow shaped and creamy delicious. A lot of the items on the dessert menu needed explanation like black sesame paste with glutinous peanut dumplings, fresh mango grass jelly and almond fungus with pear. Pretty good food. Their website has their weekly specials with half priced items. It does take time for the food to be prepped, but it always comes out hot. The baked rice dishes are a little heftier compared to fried rice options, so I'd recommend the baked rice if you want more food. Service: You walk in, find a seat, serve yourself water/tea, wait for the owner to come by and take your order; the owner does everything herself. Environment: It was small and cozy with only about 5 tables or so, but it usually doesn't get too crowded. Social: I used to come here with someone special after a day of hard work. Now, it is one of the chill spots with me and my girl friends. Due to the fact that it is small, the noise level maintained pretty well because of the small amount of people. My first impression was how cozy (read: euphemism for tiny) the place was. I think the maximum occupancy was 15. There's only one waitress and two cooks, but they're pretty efficient. My friend and I ordered salads and they were SPICY. I like hot foods, so I didn't mind, but for the more timid: be careful. I can't remember the drinks we ordered...I think I had some kind of ginger lemonade...but they were also delicious and a refreshing contrast to the spicy entrees. My friends and I went here for dessert, and it was such a disapointment. Not only did the desserts taste bland and disgusting, but they looked pretty much like how they tasted. One of my friends wasn't planning to get anything and just asked for water, but the waitress said each customer had to pay a minimum of $3, even if all he got was self-served tap water. Food takes more than 1 hour to serve, and everything is self-served - get your own menu, your own tea/water, your own utensils, plates. 4 of us walked in at 7:00pm. There were 2 other tables occupied. We ordered a red bean drink, 1 appetitzer and 3 dishes. By 8:15pm, only the appetitizer and drink came out. We asked the waitress where is our food? Her response, "they came here first (pointing at the 2 tables who arrived earlier than us), so after they get their meal, then you get yours." No apologies whatsoever. We were so damn angry at this point. This place is SO RIDICULOUS. We paid for the drink and appetitizer and WALKED OUT. I am so disappointed with any of the Yelpers here who gave this restaurant anything above 2 stars. You guys are so sad to wait 1 hour for the food and have crappy service (or NO SERVICE). Large extensive menus worry me. I know places like to give variety, but it's just easier on me if I knew which were the decent options. And considering the size of both Mango Medley and the staff, I think they're trying to handle more than they can. But anyway, I visited here twice. 1st time: It was around the time the place first opened, so I think that's why the staff was nice back then, I'm not sure how they are now. I ordered the honey chicken garlic spaghetti (which I think is now discontinued) which I thought was pretty good. The chicken had strong honey flavoring and the noodles were garlicky but not oily. I usually picked out the zucchini, onion, and red pepper because they came in large chunks it felt weird chewing on those at the same time. Since it was a cold night, I had their honey ginger tea which was okay, made my stomachache go away at least. 2nd time: I was nauseated and I really didn't feel like eating but the bf really felt like getting dessert so I brought him here. I just ordered tea and he ordered the red bean soup. We know red bean soup is usually reddish and purple in color, but this particular one came in a faded purple color with black colored beans. WTF? Looked and tasted like it was refrigerated. And since there was like a $3 minimum/person rule and we were 25 cents short, she suggested I order a 50 cent cookie (from the Costco pack). I should have just given her 25 cents for free. Oh yeah, my bf really had to use the bathroom and but couldn't use the one here. Something about the stench and the dirtiness, maybe the last guy couldn't stomach the dessert either. He's gone before in Safeway and gas station bathrooms but said no way to this one. Yes, the service could be improved, but I kind of look at it like -it is what it is -you get what you pay for. The prices are extremely low. I don't go for the service, I go for the food, which is fantastic. It's not fancy, it's quirky. There may be only one, possibly two people working at MM, which explains why the kitchen can get backed up in this tiny Outer Sunset restaurant. II have two favorite dishes and I order them frequently for takeaway when I need comfort food. I love the asian greens with pork belly and I also love the kimchi fried rice with pork or chicken. These two dishes, enough to serve two people come to $18. Bargain! The pork belly is always so tender and delicious, I never wish to share. good things to know: --If you live in the area, call ahead and order takeaway. It's quick! --No alcohol :( (another reason to take away) --If you want to eat in, go early when it's slower --Don't sit by the door. 2 stars for the sucky service. From the other yelp reviews, this lack of service is pretty consistent. First off, I don't expect much from a Chinese place but the service here was pretty much non-existent. All I ask is that I get to order my food and it comes at a decent time. But they fail at these simple requirements. 1. Takes forever to get your order. There weren't that many patrons or tables so no sympathy here. 2. Two of our dishes came out on time but one dish arrived so late that the two dishes were already consumed and we were ready to cancel our order and leave. If the waitress could at least acknowledge that it took so long, I might be a little less critical but she didn't say a word. 3. They charge each person $0.50 for tea. WTF. i dont want to give this place a bad review but i gotta say, there's no CUSTOMER serivce here, food is just alright. i was serving my friend and myself hot tea the whole time while waiting for more than 20mins for some mango salad, then another 20 mins for pineapple fried rice and stopped counting after that for the dessert. All together a good HOUR+ for all the food to come. No one greets you when you walk in, NO one sits you, and after sitting there for more than 15 mins, if you don't make note to them that you're ready, No one will take your order. But i guess its a good place if you just wanted to sit and relax, talk to your friends and had nothing better to do and hopefully not too hungry. read more

I live a couple blocks away and I always go for a late night snack or desert with my friends. Its a great little cafe that is has a Hong Kong theme to it. Its a small cozy coffee shop where you can can a great variety of snacks and deserts. Perfect for coffee,lunch,dinner and desert. Came to Mango Medley after eating at Shanghai Dumpling King. Needless to say, very stuffed! Somehow we always end up getting Asian desserts when we're in the area. I'm not going to complain! A friend of mine (who still hasn't made it over to Mango Medley) heard good things about this place. The dessert menu seem slightly limited compared to places like Creations. For example, I couldn't find the standard mango sago or glutinous rice balls! Whaaa? I decided to go with the Mango Bliss and chose dofu fa as the base. Interesting concept to be able to choose the base. The dessert was quite good and refreshing. The mango was excellent. A little confused what happened with the dofu fa. This place looks like a cute, hole-in-the-wall joint located in the basement of someone's living abode (just as many other places in the Sunset are). But as cute as this little place is, the customer service can be anything but cute. It's not horrible, but it isn't anywhere close to mediocre as well. We came in on a Sunday night and it was definitely not crowded as the reviews say (but the place is very small and crammed). But I don't remember who my waiter was just because she was so ABSENT. We saw her a total of three short times...once when she took our orders (which took forever), another when she handed us our food, and finally another when she handed us our bill. No water, no tea. Not even a checkup. I was SAD (mainly because I was thirsty and wanted some water). And as I've mentioned before, the seating in there is quite small and cramped. We sat at this table for four and the table next to ours was only a few shoulder-lengths apart. I was basically listening into the other table's conversation...it was quite entertaining though. I kind of understand why this place only gets an overall 3-star rating. After waiting for 45 minutes before the appetizer comes and 1 hour before the main entries comes, I almost made up my mind to give this place a 1-star rating. I mean, it is not that the customer service was bad or anything, but they just keep you waiting forever to the point you want to leave. Here is how this works. You walk in there and find an available table if you are lucky enough. After 15 minutes of endless wait, the waitress comes over to take your order. It takes another 45 minutes to 1 hour for your order to come in. As a matter of fact, my wife made multiple suggestions to leave during the waiting process, and I am glad I was able to resist the constant temptation to do the same. However, couple other people left within the first 20 minutes, from our observation. Anyway, after 1 hour of waiting and transformation from hungry, to very hungry, and finally to not hungry at all, our main order came. Boy, the food was soooo good that I have to say it was well worth the wait. Only if the wait can be cut in half that I am willing to come to this place more often. Trust me, if you can wait for that long, the food won't dissapoint. Not sure if long wait if part of the restaurant's strategy to differentiate itself from competitors, but it is definitely not a very good strategy for turnover and profitability. All in all, if you are not the type that can wait, this is not the place for you. Otherwise, bring a book or magazine to read with you and make sure you are not too hungry going in. I've been craving Asian desserts for a while, but my go-to spots were closed tonight. We tried out this place on a friend's recommendation, and the food was surprisingly good and fairly cheap. We had the creme brulee (not bad) and durian and ice cream cream pillows (yuuumm). Lucky us that durian is in season! :D I will say though that we visited on a slow and chilly Thursday night and the service was already a little slow. Interior: "Chopsuey" literally mean assorted pieces, doesn't have a theme. t's very crowded they could have chosen appropriate furniture to enhance the store, ergonometric wise: Service: She took 20 min to give us glass of water, it's a bit understandable, it seems like it's a one-man army service. I walk past this place often and it always looks so cute and romantic from the outside. I was really excited to finally try it out but both times I've been here the service left a bitter taste in my mouth. The first time I came with a date our server was very short with us. However, it was a busy night and it seemed she was the only worker so I let it slide. A month later I came again with a group of friends bc it was the only boba place opened late around the area. We were the only ones in the restaurant and our server made it such a terrible experience. When my friend asked for Thai tea with boba she was very rude and said they don't have boba. My friend then said she didn't want the Thai tea anymore but the server said she had to order something bc its $5 minimum per person. Ugh, we wanted to leave right there but just sucked it up and ordered an appetizer. The food is good however. I love their jasmine green milk tea! It's warm, creamy, the perfect amount of sweetness and very affordable! I also would highly reccomend their pork belly with bok choy appetizer! My friends wanted to come here for a snack/dinner on a quiet Sunday late afternoon. The place was practically empty. It's a quaint, cozy place with a limited number of tables and chairs. The menu offers a variety of entrees, salads, and desserts. I ordered baked spaghetti with 2 huge slabs of pork chop and with plenty of broccoli and cauliflower. I could only finish half my food and was full from 1 pork chop. Other people ordered ramen soup noodles that came with a ton of veggies and tofu, the Bolognese backed spaghetti had a good sauce, and the Thai noodles with veggies looked like a light entree. The food was cooked home-style and the portion size was decent. The wait wasn't too bad as we were one of 2 tables occupied. There was virtually no service as the waitress just took our orders and brought us our food. We had to get our own tea and set up our own utensils, which was a small amount of labor for some delicious home style cooking. I was too full to have dessert. But I was really tempted to get the special mango dessert for $6.50 that comes with mango chunks, almond jelly, and scoop of vanilla ice cream. I think there were variations as to what you wanted to be added to your mango "sundae". I had a small taste of my friend's sundae and it was good - sweet and satisfying. 0 service, I walked in during the dinner time, there were only one table sitting. they don't even bother to turn a single damn light on. Sat down for over 5 mins and I don't think the waitress realizes we exist. My lady and I have been here 6 times....and I have to say, the food is great and reasonably priced. I once gave this place 5 stars. Sad to say...this had to change. There are two waitresses here....one is reasonably good at what she does. The other is absolutely awful. (You know who you are) She acted almost irritated that she had to serve us. As is customary here...we walked in, and seated ourselves, and then served ourselves with water and tea. After 15 minutes...I go to get a menu. She sees this and snatches the menu out of my hand and tosses it back on the counter.....and motions to where Im supposed to get a menu(as if Im supposed to do it at all) . The menus turned out to be in a pile of food waste on a table at the back. Finally she takes our order, and 35 minutes later the food comes. As Meh as meh can get!!! read more

I've only had their desserts here and I must say they are pretty delicious. The place is cute and tiny..... I would repeatedly come here! =)
