Stopped by here late night around 10pm looking for some dinner after work. Was kinda skeptical about the reviews, but gave it a try anyways because i looked at the pictures and everything looked delicious. Seriously to me reviews are hit and miss. A lot of it had to with waiting and service not the food if you actually read it. Thats the bad thing about yelp. People tend to just look at the rating and dont bother to read the reviews. We came here on a Monday when lots of other spots in the neighborhood were closed, and you could tell that the folks here were a bit overwhelmed with the crowd. There were three tables ahead of us (two couples and a group of three) and it took us 25 minutes to get one Thai Iced Tea, about an hour for an order of Pad Thai. It seems like they had a lot of online orders as well, and out of three dishes we ordered this one happened to be ready because the table next to us ordered it. We were about to take the check for the tea when that arrived, and we did not stay for the rest of the meal as the waiter said it was going to take "a while longer." Since we had already been there for an hour, we didn't any to wait it out. The Pad Thai was fresh and pretty good, though, the realistic wait times up front would've been appreciated. What a surprise Was walking down Judah late at night and feeling hungry. Came across this small place and decided to drop in for Singapore Noodles. Fantastic taste and plenty on the plate. (see attached) Really a homey atmosphere with candles on tables and warm food on a rainy night. Because there weren't too many other customers, I struck up a conversation with the owner, Eugenie. Found out they've been there just a short while and, because the place is not terribly visable, business on some nights is slow. There was only one lady working at the storefront and more or less ignored us while we sat and studied our menu. After placing 4 orders of dessert for our party of 4, the lady told us we could not eat at the store because we did not hit the minimum. I understand difficult working situations, and I don't pretend to know how hard the specific situation was this day. That said, the wait time and lack of communication was ridiculous. Our table ordered quite a bit of food, and we waited almost an hour before we got our first little dish of dumplings. And, once we got the food, it was really not that good. I respect small Asian places very much, and wish them the best. However, language barrier or not, you need to make an effort to let your customers know of any issues that might prevent food being given in a timely fashion. Restaurant name, Mango Medley, is printed in small font on their awning. Funny that their Chinese name has no reference to Mango. Mango Medley sounds like a dessert place and they do offer desserts but their menu is quite extensive with lots of lunch plates. Milk tea, Hong Kong style was right on the spot, strong and aromatic. Portuguese chicken rice was large portion, good tasting, and great pricing. We came for lunch on Sun. You can literally park in front of the restaurant or just across the street. She runs the place by herself. Shopping, cleaning, prepping, cooking, taking orders, serving, dishes, busing. EVERYTHING!! She's really straight forward, no bullshit but she means well. If you don't understand that, don't come here either. The food will take long, but it's definitely worth it. They didn't have tongue! I've been craving for their baked tongue for three years. Before the pandemic, my friends came, and i had the most nemorable baked tongue. Such a disappointment. The inside of the restaurant had new lighting. Just 4 tables. This is a one woman operation, so be very patient. Food came very hot from the oven. We got baked curry sauce (very mild) seafood rice, baked unagi and chicken rice, and baked portugese seafood spaghetti (add $1 for this special sauce). There's roasted potato, fish, mussels, shrimp, and calamari. Interesting that the sauces have different prices. There is a big sign on the table to say add 20% for pre- orders and table of 6 or more. My portugese sauce was ok. I see evidence of turmeric powder. It was not heavy gravy sauce which is good. Light Cheese baked on top. It's a big portion. I liked that it was piping hot. The menu is extensive, but i tend to gravitate toward the baked spaghetti dishes. For dessert mango pollows. Good fresh mango slice. Comfortable setting. This is a very small Hing Kong style cafe with excellent food, especially the Hong Kong style bake over rice plates. One of our clients highly recommended this place and we came for a trial. We ordered one seafood bake rice and one pork trio bake rice. Both are very tasty. Perhaps we were very hungry, that why we think the portions are little small but they are actually similar size to other Hong Kong style bake rice plates elsewhere. Their specialty actual is not the main dishes. I highly recommend their desserts. We order one sticky rice with mango and the number 1 "Mango Bliss" which is the best. The Mango Bliss is really the number one. The fresh mango combined with the Panna Cotta created a tasty sensation. On top of that their homemade mango ice cream push the desert to full score. This place is worth a trial even though finding parking in this residential neighborhood is not easy but worthy of the hassle. The bakery rice may take 20 minutes to bake. We had always only come for dessert here and the Mango Bliss is a standout. We decided to try the dinner here as we love the "Midnight Diner" type ambiance and the one woman show. And we were blown away - she's such a gifted chef. First to come out was the claypot pork belly with fish and tofu, piping hot, fresh and perfect home cooked taste with a bowl of rice. The short rib and oxtail baked rice with tomato and beef back and noodles in curry sauce on hot plate had such rich, memorable flavors with hunks of meat. Least expected was how good the pad Thai and its large portion. It was tasty and fragrant with delicious toppings and the noodles were fluffy, not greasy at all. Our orders included Pork Belly Clay Pot ($12.95), Basil spinach noodles w/tomato ($11.95), Baked pork chop w/potatoes ($15.95), Beef brisket w/tofu, ($15.50), Shrimp Ramen, and appetizer plates of Roti and peanut sauce ($4.95) and Pork Belly over asian greens ($8.50). My husband was the first to receive his food...35 minutes after ordering. My niece was the last to receive her food...45 minutes after my husband got his order! During our visit we watched the owner/cook/server continually disappear behind the high counter, as blenders whirred and pots clanging, to miraculously reappear to serve one plate at a time to the lucky recipient. I started to bet who would be the next person to be served. I started to feel bad for each succeeding dinner guest who came in, knowing they wouldn't be eating for a very long time. All that being said, the food was very good. It smelled very good. It came out piping hot and presented beautifully. Just don't come with a large group if you expect all to eat at the same time. I really wanted to like this place but the cons far outweigh the pros. The food quality was actually quite good, but the service was ridiculously slow and the owner was grumpy. She was the only person working and we were the only two parties in the place, but yet service was so incredibly slow. That could have been forgiven if the owner was friendly. We returned two days later and found the owner outside moving furniture with no one in the restaurant. She opted to keep loading her truck instead of welcoming us in and taking our order. First of all, this place only opens from 4-11 pm. There's only one lady that works there all the time (believe she's the owner). We really enjoyed everything we ordered. The almond cream is a great decaffeinated drink. Milk tea is good but not warm enough! They also offers lot of H.K bake rice so that you can have dinner and dessert all in one place! Another great meal at Mango Medley! We got to eat more this time since we went there for dinner but not just for dessert. We got one of the fall/winter combos which included a seafood pasta. It came with a small bowl of chowder with a piece of garlic bread. In addition to that, we also got a basked rice with pork chop, sausages,ham and veggies. As usual, both were delicious. Before she brought our dishes, she brought over two drinks which we didn't order. It turn out to be one of the promotions that the restaurant was having, so we got couple passion fruit lemon tea to enjoy before our food. Of course, I had to order my all-time favorite Cha Cha to end the meal. With the dessert that we ordered, we were "qualified" for 6 of the cheese gyoza. Because we were quite full, we opt in for 2 pieces only for tasting. Well done!! As I have mentioned in my previous review, this restaurant was ran by one person. Therefore, slightly longer wait time was expected. While we were waiting, we saw more promotions including lunch specials that were less than $9. The owner said that she barely break even with these promotions but she wanted to encourage more people to do take-out or even dine-in. This is the definition of hole in the wall- it's easy to pass by and small on the inside, but the food is fantastic! We came by on a Friday night with some friends. We were seated pretty quickly. Keep in mind there are probably like 4-5 tables they can seat people at- it's that small. We were seated right by the entrance. It seemed as though there was only one person working the front and taking orders and one person in the back making the food. Keep that in mind as it explains why the service was slow and food took a while to come out. We ordered our drinks and food not too long after sitting down, the server was very friendly with us. The Thai tea was good, we enjoyed ours. We ordered 4 dishes and 2 desserts. The dishes each came out one by one, which is why it seems to us there's only one person making food. We got two baked spaghetti dishes (clam spaghetti and something like mad about cow?) which were both super delicious! We also got the chicken rice noodle soup and a clay pot. Everything was amazing. The food is absolutely worth the wait here. We also got the mango bliss for our dessert and that was super good. We loved the ice cream and mango bits and the pana cotta at the bottom was creamy and smooth. Overall, it's easy to miss and yes there will be a wait time.
