Overpriced for strip mall shop. Convenient to hotel guests nearby. Nice friendly service. Food was nothing special.

We have placed multiple to-go orders from Mangia e Bevi and while most of the orders have been fine and decent, today's was absolutely terrible. This picture of the "panelle" chickpea fritter sums it up. You'll find the premium prices here, but the premium food, you'll find elsewhere. read more

Mangia e Bevi - "Panelle" - Italian Near Me - Oceanside, California

If you love AUTHENTIC Italian food please visit this restaurant! The ambiance is so peaceful and inviting ALL of the staff is so warm and welcoming, but one bite of their amazing food is what will hook you! We had the charcuterie and cheeseboard along with the calamari and bruschetta... all I can say is we were so satisfied we didn't even need a main course but of course we did! Their tortellini is some thing I've never experienced and I will keep going back for it. The only thing I'm sad about is not taking pictures of all of their beautiful food because I was too excited to eat! I highly recommend this restaurant the owner is amazing so friendly and the wine selection is out of this world! read more

UPDATE! : I recently went back after almost a year (I've been busy with work) and they are still just as good, if not better! I took a photo of our lunch items. Soooooo yummy!! Stumbled across this gem recently...almost don't want to post a review (selfishly) because we would love to have this be our go-to restaurant that isn't crazy busy. However, the food was so good and so authentic, it deserves accolade!! Keep doing what you're doing! It's superb! read more

Mangia e Bevi - Roasted artichoke, panelle, mista green salad - Italian Near Me - Oceanside, California

Came here for lunch today on a Groupon whim, and WOW - blown away with how delicious our meal was and how charming the place and people were. We ordered calamari to start and for our mains, we had pappardelle with boar and a squid ink pasta with seafood (frutti di mare). The dishes were excellent in every aspect: fresh, local quality ingredients, skillful preparation, beautifully presented. The service was friendly, timely, professional, kind. What a surprising find and worth taking a drive to find it. I highly recommend this place. We will be back soon and bring friends! read more

Three days later and I find myself still craving the fried artichokes that came on the mesclun salad! The pasta with italian sausage was made at my request with spaghetti- absolutely perfect. Pasta had a nice slight bite to it and the sauce was scrumptious! Fried calamari app was light and crisp - thoroughly enjoyed our meal. read more

Very good food and service. The price for the two of us was about $50 each. I wouldn't mind coming back the next time I'm in the mood for Italian food. We both had a special, I had the Sea Bass and my wife had the filet mignon. Very good. read more

Unimaginative food that you would expect from a chain. We felt rushed, even though we were there at 5 pm. I knew the meal wasn't going to be anything to write home about when we were served really crappy bread. read more

Armed with a $40 Groupon, we stopped into a mostly empty Mangia e Bevi for lunch on a Saturday around 2 pm. I saw this place appear on Yelp and we live close-by. The Groupon gave us *just* enough reason to check out the place and I'm glad we did! There is only one menu (no lunch, happy hour or kids menus) so most things on the menu are in the $10-$30 range, which I consider dinner prices. I wasn't looking for a $120 lunch bill today, so we opted to try several appetizers instead. BTW, check-in on Yelp! As of right now, you'll get a free "Pane" appetizer (worth $3) which is bite-sized pieces of toasted focaccia bread. Ask for olive oil and balsamic vinegar for dipping. While they have no kids menu, they did offer to make a kids pizza or simple pasta. We chose the kids pepperoni pizza. It's smaller than their featured pizzas (another table ordered a regular pizza and it looked amazing) and cheaper, at $9. My daughter ate two slices and said it was very good. We also ordered the Calamari ($11), Polpette meatballs ($14) and Clams ($14) along with a glass of Pinot Noir ($8) and a Lost Coast Tangerine Wheat beer on draft (only $5). I think we are over calamari as it's generally the same wherever we go. The two meatballs topped with shaved parmesan (I believe) were large and delicious and very filling. The clams were the star of this show. Wow! I could drink the sauce...I mean, I WILL drink the sauce next time I order it. I'll ask them for a cup ;) All appetizers are a good size. I thought they would be smaller. The wheat beer was great, so great we ordered another couple of beers and at $5 each...it's a no-brainer. Altogether, bill came to $80 before tip...more than I wanted to spend but we got carried away. I bought another Groupon just now and my wife and I will come back for a proper dinner next time. Recommendations: * Create a small kids menu with several options * Create some lunch options * More craft beer options (even if they're bottles) and serve in a chilled, frosted glass * Full bar (think "Italian margaritas") Overall, Mangia e Bevi is a fantastic new addition to our neighborhood. Welcome! read more

Ordered the Pulpo, and it was amazing! It is a salad, so you may want to order an additional side if you want to get full. :-)

I have been wanting to try this restaurant forever and finally made it happen!! We ordered Polpette (meatballs), Pollo Alla Napoletana, and Torteloni. Every single item was amazing. The flavors were spot on and everything was perfectly cooked. The prices are a little high for the area but their quality lived up to the price so I was ok with the cost. We actually got or food to go which always ends up being not as fresh or tasty as eating in so I can't even imagine how good the food is when you are eating in the restaurant. I am going to go back soon so I can find out! read more

We just found this hidden gem last night upon driving around the area and are absolutely thrilled! Service was impeccable, the cute bistro outdoor atmosphere serving as backdrop for delicious food. I've had a lot of arancini before, and though I was disappointed there was only one on the app plate, it was the best one I've had. Good texture, strong flavor. But the highlight was definitely the pasta. My husband and I cannot wait to return to try the other dishes though I might just keep getting the bucatini guanciale Made a reservation already for my birthday next week, so excited! Big props to our server as well, she made the night even more enjoyable. read more

Mangia e Bevi - Panna cotta with passion fruit jelly - lovely! - Italian Near Me - Oceanside, California

Wow. Just wow! Okay end of review... Alright, maybe I will go into a little more detail, but where to start? Everything about this little restaurant is wonderful. We were the only diners on a Wednesday evening. We got the Burrata salad, Pane, Tenderloin, and the Wild Boar pasta. The wine selection is great. I am a gravel cyclist so obviously I had to get the Gravel Bar cabernet. True sommelier approach for sure. Our waitress Vittoria was attentive, talkative, helpful, and clearly knew southern Italian faire. The bathrooms were spotless and the paper towel machine dispensed decently long towels (I intensely dislike it when restaurants set their towel machines to dispense 4" long towels, so much so that it typically warrants an automatic 1 star deduction). The food was phenomenal and came out quickly. The portions were large but not too large. We will most certainly be coming back. read more

Mangia e Bevi - Margherita Pizza - Italian Near Me - Oceanside, California

Came back from Italy and of course I've been craving Italian food ever since. We found this place and decided to give a try, ordered the Carbonara, Cacio e Pepe, and Margherita Pizza. The first thing we had was the pizza, real mozzarella, basil, and soft full crust. One of the best I've had. The cacio e pepe I enjoyed but it didn't have a whole lot of flavor, relatively simple but still good. The carbonara was exactly what i expected, delicious. A bit saucy and big cuts of ham. The egg yolk taste is not strong and adds to the flavor. The noodle consistency for both of these felt like what I had in Italy. Didn't experience the service or ambiance as we did takeout but after this experience I'll be going back and will get the full effect. read more

Yum! Awesome, authentic Italian. Great service. Nice patio. We have never been disappointed. I would recommend this place for sure.

I wish i can give you less since i we got there no welcome and the host was cleaning silverware PASTA uncooked taste straight up flour and chewy for a 30+ dolpars spect better CALAMARI poor on every single way top it off they slice the lemon bread it fry it and mixed with the calamari so they selling bread it lemon insted gross the brochatta some of the mix they put on top super salty that it burns your tonge not sure but wife notice that they scan you with the eyes probably we were not dressed enough but pooor service poor food bad bad bad experience hey the octopus was good but no going back at all read more

The Mangia pizza was phenomenal... great combo of melted brie and speck (a prosciutto-like thin, yet fatty meat). No arugula on the pizza, despite the ingredients list on the menu. Surprised that at a nice Italian restaurant there were more pizzas on the menu (8) than pastas (5). 3 of the 5 pastas had crazy adventurous items included, such as quail egg, wild boar, and squid ink linguini. Regardless, I shared the Norma pasta, but replaced the eggplant with chicken. It was good, but there wasn't a ton of sauce and the order itself was pretty small. Highly recommend the Mangia pizza! read more

Go somewhere else for outdoor dining. Never in my life, I had waited for more than 45 minutes for a meal And also, before someone come for me. There were only 4 of us getting served. Me and the table next to us, and they still took 45+ minutes to get our food and my seat was wet. I have no idea why, but I didn't tell the server Bc she was walking quickly across the outdoor area.. Overall would not recommend this place, or would not come back again. My experience were just awful because of the nuisance this restaurant gave me while I was waiting for a meal & service was all over the place.. Lastly, you are unprofessional for telling me that I only write bad reviews and for expressing my frustration with your business. People should know what kind of people and business you're running since you seem to investigate on my reviews on yelp and shallow enough not to take criticism. Overall, you're service was bad & You're professionalisms should be rated 0. read more

Went to have dinner with my mom and husband. It has been a few years since we've been here and we are so glad we came back. The calamari was prepared well. Loved this restaurant! My parents came all the way from Michigan to visit and I took them here (my first time trying as well!). Service was exemplary - the owner met us out in the parking lot as he had reserved restaurant parking. He even took the time to chat with my dad and introduced himself. Our server was great! She was quick with everything we ordered (calamari not pictured, bread service, pizzas) and very attentive. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a great Italian restaurant! read more

We had a delightful meal at Mangia e Bevi today! We will definitely return to try more choices from this interesting and varied Italian menu. We had a beautifully arranged, fresh arugula salad with oranges and fennel along with the fig focaccia to start. We tasted each other's wonderful entrees of carbonara and the tortellini. The tortellini was the BEST we've ever had! We decided we must also try the deserts since our meal was so very delicious. We had a so-pretty and perfect tiramisu and the gelato with a flourish of espresso to "drown " it by our very friendly waitress. Our waitress was attentive, brought refills of fresh/perfect iced tea and answered our questions about the menu choices. We are definitely returning soon. read more

This place is so cute! The outside area was romantic and cute. The food is good. We came here last Tuesday and we had the entire outdoor area to ourselves! The staff was super friendly and helpful! They even gave us 3 heaters to stay warm. I had a Groupon which they gladly accepted and was hassle free. We started with a $26 bottle of wine which was good! I recommend going that route (most cost effective if each of you are going to have a glass of wine anyway). We also ordered the pane which was really good! It's a good starter. Then we split a pizza and Cacio de Pepe. The pasta was good you can tell it's made from scratch. The only thing I wish was we had more of it lol. The pizza was really good. It tasted fresh and had a lot of toppings! read more

Nice little date spot. The service was pretty good. Our server was attentive and often times the chef came out to make sure everything tasted buono. We had pizza and pasta, which was good, of course. The calamari had fried lemons in it which threw us off because we would bite into it expecting calamari and eating a lemon instead. But I digress, not a big deal. We had a nice bottle of wine and listened to the people next door doing karaoke. Good times. read more
