Oceanside is really stepping up their game. No way would little Brooke, growing up in Cardiff in the 90s, ever believe that there could be an Italian restaurant to rival Rome's in an Oceanside strip mall. The outside seating is strung with lights, there is a fountain just outside the patio, and although there is a sports bar across the way this place feels romantic. We started off with the $26 charcuterie board. That's a ridiculous price for a cheese sampler but I let my Italian husband indulge because, well, Italian. It was just cheeses and meats and fruits and some nuts, but it was all high quality. My husband ordered a pizza (I think because he felt guilty for getting a ridiculously priced appetizer), and that was the best pizza we've had in California. Made in an open flame oven. Totally unexpected. Totally amazing. I ordered the tortelloni. It came out hand-made. The cream sauce mixed with the cheese filling and the pancetta pieces melded together into a taste that I have not experienced elsewhere. We are constantly in search of great Italian food. We found a gem! This place feels like Italy. The food was authentic and the portions were generous. There are Big bowls of pasta and salads and unusual appetizers that come from the region of Palermo. The pizza looked incredible. Wood fired and crispy! I am gluten free and there were no gf options other than what I could create myself. I had a huge arugula and Buffalo salad with chickpea app. Just sublime. The owner served us and shared he has won international pizza competitions 3x. No doubt about it, this place is the real deal. The decor needs some help. It would take about three hours to perfect this place by freshening up..organizing and cleaning the space. I looked past a lot of it because in Italy sometimes you just put up with it. Still... The ambiance is so peaceful and inviting ALL of the staff is so warm and welcoming, but one bite of their amazing food is what will hook you! My husband stumbled upon Mangia e Bevi while scrolling Yelp for new restaurant ideas, and found a 1 star review accompanied by the owners response that began "Well Karen..." Once we were able to pick ourselves up off the floor from laughing so hard we knew we had to try it. We had a little bit of a wait the first time, but they were busy with the max # of people allowed and take out (COVID is an unpredictable time). When we sat down, we had a lovely young Lady as our server. We asked about the review we had read and it turned out she had served that table too, and her father is the owner. We ordered a Mista salad to share, which was AMAZING (though I would recommend mentioning the anchovies on the menu), followed by Cacio e Pepe (me) and Pappardelle (hubby). Both were delicious, the wine was lovely, service was excellent and we've been back several more times. The do not have a kids menu, but Tore (the owner) always aims to please and will do everything possible to accommodate a customer. Just ask! Communicate! He has been incredibly gracious, thoughtful and fun every time we've visited, and his desire for his customers to have a great experience at his restaurant is what keeps us coming back! Not to mention supporting our local small businesses. However, if you're one of these passive-aggressive people who would sooner leave a shitty review on Yelp than speak to the establishment for even the smallest issue, or leave negative reviews everywhere you go in hopes of getting something for free, this is not your place. Tore will always make things right if there's an issue, but has no patience for people who don't have the courage or respect to give them the opportunity first. Real Italian food served by super knowledgeable staff. I'm the opposite of a foodie and not only did I love the food, I didn't feel awkward asking questions or as though I didn't belong. It's a modern, cozy wine-bar type vibe. Unfortunately not pictured is anything with their house made tomato sauce. Has a much "rounder," less sharp taste than your typical tomato sauces. Turns out it's because they use plum tomatoes which are sweeter and less acidic. Whole table loved it! They also have organic heirloom tomatoes grown for them that they use on the Bruschetti, which a friend ordered and looked amazing! The toppings were plentiful and gorge. I couldn't eat them because I can't eat bread, but I was very envious. I did get to try the same friend's Goat Cheese Polenta and it was sooooo good!!! It was creamy and goat-cheesy. This is my first time here. It's small but cozy. The staff are very nice an helpful as I needed recommendations. We started with the calamari that was crispy and delicious. Very good little Italian place off Rancho del oro. Nothing too special on the inside but the people are very warm and welcoming when you enter. We sat outside and there was a ton of little gnat things which was a little annoying. But it looks like they do light a real fire which I'm guessing gets those away. We started off with a pep pizza for my 3yo. Was very good but a little hard for kids to eat cause it's pretty greasy and floppy. We then did the meatballs and caprese salad (not the names on the menu but I'm not Italian so we are going English version haha) and both were good. I would say the meatball was the better of the two. Comes with a few slices of good bread too which I was making little meatball Sammie's with lol. Caprese was good but needed more cheese. The ratio seemed off but was definitely good. Then we got the cheese tortellini. I wasn't super impressed by it but was definitely good. The one thing I would change is there really isn't any pasta dishes with meat. We just found out about this place today and had to stop in tonight. So glad we did! The food and service was excellent. By the time we finished, we felt we should be celebrating something besides a Monday. It just felt like a very special dinner. They really know what they're doing. We ordered a variety of small plates and one entree to enjoy between us and it turned out spot on, with some to take home. Everything was fresh and perfectly prepared. Grilled Octopus, very tender, the Fried Artichoke topped salad with the peppery dressing, the Arancino (Italian rice ball with a crispy outside crust), Butternut Squash Risotto and finishing with the Chocolate Mousse (look for photos!) Came back from Italy and of course I've been craving Italian food ever since. We found this place and decided to give a try, ordered the Carbonara, Cacio e Pepe, and Margherita Pizza. The first thing we had was the pizza, real mozzarella, basil, and soft full crust. One of the best I've had. The cacio e pepe I enjoyed but it didn't have a whole lot of flavor, relatively simple but still good. The carbonara was exactly what i expected, delicious. A bit saucy and big cuts of ham. The egg yolk taste is not strong and adds to the flavor. The noodle consistency for both of these felt like what I had in Italy. Didn't experience the service or ambiance as we did takeout but after this experience I'll be going back and will get the full effect. read more

It's made a huge difference to those of us who couldn't get groceries delivered because of the sudden demand or go to the store. The meals are all delicious, just like in the restaurant, and each one includes fruit, veggies, or a yummy salad. Breakfast has bacon, eggs, french toast, applesauce or fruit and juice. For lunch there is a sandwich, salad, or entree and veggies. Dinner includes pasta dishes, lasagna, and locally sourced veggies or salad. Came here for lunch today on a Groupon whim, and WOW - blown away with how delicious our meal was and how charming the place and people were. We ordered calamari to start and for our mains, we had pappardelle with boar and a squid ink pasta with seafood (frutti di mare). The dishes were excellent in every aspect: fresh, local quality ingredients, skillful preparation, beautifully presented. The service was friendly, timely, professional, kind.
