Honestly super underwhelming. Agree with the others that have rated the place as mid. It's hidden in urbana that's before all the new developments. Cute outdoor patio and that could be a nice space. The inside is normally decorated restaurant space. The service wasn't too bad, attentive at first and then she disappeared for 10 min and then took our orders. Afterward she didn't even bother to ask how the food was, if she did I would've told her how disappointed I was with the dish that was recommended as, "oh you can't go wrong with eggplant parm! It's great!" Needless to say that it was an overpriced mush of a dish. There was no texture to the dish. At first sight it looked like a generous helping of food, about 6 pieces of eggplant with spaghetti. However, there was no texture to the deep fried eggplant, no crunch, no flavor, disappointing. Spaghetti was normal, nothing special. The pizza. Not shown, was also disappointing. There's so many other better options close by, prob won't come back. read more

This places has such mixed reviews that we thought we would give it a try. The verdict: Overpriced mediocre Italian and overall, an underwhelming experience. This was the most I have ever paid for eggplant parm ($25) and I've have only not taken the leftovers one other time in my life. The pasta that was served with it was spaghetti ...and did not taste freshly made (but maybe others were referring to a pasta of the day?) Go about eight minutes more north to Manalu's. Still not sure exactly how I feel about this place. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't amazing either. We stopped in early on a Monday night and were one of two tables. My bestie immediately said she was getting Cracker Barrel vibes . Place isn't super big, large groups could be a challenge here. They were playing Christmas music, but it was way too loud for such an empty restaurant. I liked the eggplant rotini appetizer, it had ricotta which I liked but my bestie is a traditionalist and didn't think it was necessary. The eggplant main course was more traditional, and while it didn't look like anything special it was pretty good. I had the mushroom ravioli al pistachio, it was decent but I was really hoping for outstanding like I'd had elsewhere. Great service, and ambiance, food was lacking my chicken Marsala was the worst I've ever had.

Let me start by saying that the pasta here is great, made fresh and tasty! Service Is not that great though, mostly very slow and unattentive almost every time we have been there. Sitting at the table for about 10 mim before anyone cames to ask you for drinks is a pretty regular occurance. Once again, the food is really good and the place has a nice atmosphere, but the service is the main reason for my score. Highly recommend the Rigatoni with Salccicia. read more

We have been going to Mangia e Bevi since it opened in 2007, however I especially want to praise them for the great job they did providing us with party trays recently for an engagement party we were hosting. Definitely a tucked away gem in Urbana! Just outside of downtown Frederick, Mangia E Bevi offers classic Italian along with a few fantastic house dishes that will have this girl coming back for more! The crabmeat and shrimp salad is an absolute stand out! Massive chunks of lump crabmeat and huge colossal Shrimps ! Served with a very light vinaigrette. Makes a great main or shared as an appetizer. They also have porcini rice balls and bada bing shrimp, both are delectable and a favorite of the hubs! Their personal 10" pizzas are thin crust and wonderful. We had a prosciutto pizza and the white pizza which was perfectly garlicky Also, don't forget the house made lemon cello sunrise cocktails to go! And order yourself some bread... don't skimp. We went there on a Friday of a holiday weekend and there was a 5 minute wait for our party of 2. The service was courteous and efficient. The waitress knew all the wines and the dishes and made great recommendations. She was outstanding actually. The food was great. We started with the eggplant appetizer- amazing. I had the Orange Roughy and it was plenty of food and it was delicious as well. Their menu is one of the best I've seen in an Italian restaurant. I can't say enough positive about it. We loved it. This place is near one of our favorite date night restaurants so we have thought about trying it for some time. Today happened to be the day. I really don't want to say anything bad about it. But it started off for us with a creepy vibe from the guy at the podium when we walked in. After being seated, we looked over the menu. Brace yourself - the prices are higher than you would expect. We made our selections and when the plates came out I was amused at the portion. For the price I expected ala carte servings. We found the food quality to be..neutral. We got out of there just under $100. Much more than anticipated. The wait staff were friendly. The bread basket and olive oil was good. Hard pass on the rice balls @ $3.25 each. That said, it certainly isn't the worst dining experience we have had. We enjoyed being out together so that was nice. I don't think we'll hurry back. read more

Ok I've never eaten in the restaurant. We've always wanted to. But they didn't do reservations and who wants to go out to eat to find they are full? That and o my that is why they get four stars. Come on now! Let us now for certain that we can eat there. It's not that hard... However we've had curbside service from here. And given the current pandemic who hasn't in Urbana when they wanted Italian? The good is top notch! I can't fault it. Little pricey perhaps. What a great little find on our trip. Very nice Italian food done right. We were seated immediately as we entered. Nice sit down area and outside seating as well. Our server was nice, friendly, and attentive. Even another server checked on us for refills. I had the Chicken Martini and my wife had Orange Roughy with crab meat. Both were outstanding. 3 stars because it's a small business just trying to get by. Would be lower but I imagine my experience was as it was it's because I came here after 2 years of COVID lockdown. The prices are outrageous 27$ entrees and they aren't high quality. Cheaper entrees are around 18$ and both tastes cheap and comes in small servings watered down by excessive sauce and macaroni. I will give one more caveat: I usually don't like Italian food; but I've honestly had better experiences for less money in olive garden. This place is ok considering location, everything in urbana is a little bit pricier. If you have to eat in urbana, I would place this toward the bottom. I tried this restaurant for the first time today for lunch and have to say it was absolutely awful. First off, the prices are ridiculous for the quality of food--there is no lunch menu so nearly every dish is north of $22 and everything is a la carte. If you want a basket of bread it's $5. I mean...come on. Are you that cheap that you can't put a basket of bread on the table without charging for it? When you enter you are greeted with several signs that make it clear that you can't come in with a drink or other food. I'm usually not in the mood to be scolded the second I walk into a place. More importantly, the food is just bad. I ordered the chicken marsala and it was hands down the worst chicken marsala I've ever eaten at a restaurant that bills themselves as Italian. What I was served was something I would have expected at a diner. The mushrooms were rough cut and looked like they were dumped onto the plate directly from a can. They weren't browned and neither was the chicken--a tell tale sign that whoever was cooking in the kitchen was not trained. No chef worth their salt would have sent this plate out to a customer. The marsala sauce was orange. I tried to choke it down but it was tasteless. Absolutely unbelievable for a restaurant billing themselves as something upscale to serve this garbage. My fiancée and I came to mangia e bevi because of the yelp reviews. We will be returning because of the food was amazing and authentic! We started out with a glass of wine, which the selection was not overwhelming but plenty to chose from. The owner came by our table and was one of the most polite and informative people I have met at a restaurant! The appetizer was beyond delicious. The tomato's used are extremely high quality. The pizza was cooked amazing. There was the slightest bit of char, cupped pepperoni, not soggy, not over cooked. My Fiancée's pasta was also unbelievably flavored! We told the owner we were headed to Italy in the fall and he then gave us tons of recommendations and tips for our trip! Hands down my most positive restaurant experience in years! read more

This is the Filet Mignon Marsala at Mania E Bevi in Urbana. It's the most expensive item on the menu. And it is completely worth the price! The steak practically melts in your mouth and the sauce is superb! It's rare to get a gourmet level meal in Urbana but everything at Mangia E Bevi is perfectly prepared and delicious. This was our first time here but it won't be our last! Kacey our server was so nice. We got the calamari and bread basket for apps both were really good. For dinner the cheese ravioli, lasagna, pesto linguine and the cannelloni di carne. Everyone enjoyed their meals my dad really likes the sauce with the ravioli. The portions were huge! We used to like this restaurant, unfortunately, not any more. We arrived on Wednesday night for a family dinner. The restaurant looked somewhat busy, but we were seated right away. Nobody warned us about the wait. We waited for about 10-15 min before a waitress greeted us on her way from one table to another. She said she would be right back. We waited another 15 min, so over 25 min since we were seated. We were ready to place the entire order by the time she finally came to our table. We ordered a simple salad and shrimp as appetizer and two pastas for the main course. We did say that she could start bringing out our dishes as soon as they come out because we had an infant with us who was getting tired and bored. About 35 minutes after we placed our order they brought two pasta dishes to the table. No salad or appetizer. They were served after our reminder. The food was ok, nothing special. Since it took much longer than expected, we ordered our desserts to go. Well, I understand that the server could be busy and had to handle more than she could at that time, but 20 % gratuity (after the tax!) included in our check for the group of three. Really? Is it a new norm? Sorry, but I do not think we'll be back any time soon. I respect small family owned businesses and I appreciate hard work of the servers (I've been in the restaurant business myself both as a server and as a manager), but I feel like the owner needs to hear the honest feedback, so that they can improve the customer service. Calamari looked to be fresh out of the bag, rather bland and not very crisp, bruschetta was fresh but not sure why they did not melt the cheese and rice balls were rather bland. I have eaten here a few times and the dishes are fine. The sauces are good and service has been efficient (not friendly). The portions seem to be normal for a $18-21 dollar meal. That means they are overpriced by $5 or $6. I have to admit the no bread or side salad with the meal would be more in line with the mid 20 price tag. The mix drinks are higher than I expected. Norm in the area would be $8 and they run $12. I believe the pizza is really good per my neighbors. They have some dishes that are differently made than other Italian places and I find that refreshing. Two people each getting a side salad, one entree, one drink and no dessert with run $100. a little steep for a Wednesday night quick bite. read more

We've been here a few times now. Despite the strip mall exterior, inside is a delicious Italian restaurant. Service is very friendly and attentive. They have a good size kids menu for the little ones- our daughter usually gets the cheese pizza which is quite tasty (since I always sneak a slice!). My favorite entree is the Penne Mangia e Bevi, the house signature dish. Perfectly cooked penne with a smoky mozzarella cognac cream sauce. Oh, and bacon. Lots of delicious crispy bacon.
