I've been to Coal fire a few times and have never had an issue with the food or service ... until last Monday. After ordering a personal pizza and chatting with a few of the locals that were in the bar area, our conversation ran the gamut of the World Cup, local movies and the current events in Iraq. The bar was pretty empty, maybe 6 people tops who didn't seem to have any issue with our conversational topics. However, the bartender with long auburn hair, seemed upset and then said it was her bar and we couldn't talk politics. I and the regular local were shocked and bewildered at that statement. I closed my tab and decided to talk to the manager (Addy) on the way out. She reiterated that the bar was hers and she could set whatever rules she wanted. What a far cry from the days when I used to bartend. Our only concern was monitoring people's drinks to keep them safe and having the owners walk people out in the event they were ready to brawl. This is a service business. Your personal opinions are not an excuse to treat your clientele in that manner. I wonder if the owner's are aware of this. The manager said they were. I like the pizza, and I have met some lovely servers there, however, I will not be returning and will encourage my Frederick friends to pass on this establishment. Friendly and clean, so that is a start. 5 locations is telling. I am assuming those making the pizza may be new as they struggle at times making the pies. The crust is rather thin but not NY style. The sauce is too sweet for me. I do not care for shredded or sliced basil on my Margherita pizza. The cheese is the standard cheese for a pizza. None of this is a huge deal except for the sweetness. First time in, we showed up unannounced with a family of seven. In the door we found it clean, we'll lit with a friendly staff. We were seated immediately and we're greeted by our server Kayla who was very nice and attentive to our needs. We found the menu full of great stuff. The food was great! The Coal Fire Salad had thick cut bacon that was crisp but still tender paired with a delicious honey mustard dressing that made eating your veggies fun. The onions rings are thin and crispy with a tangy, cream-based dipping sauce. The Philly cheesesteak was tender and packed with flavor. Walked in on a Saturday at about 12 and wasn't busy at all, which was nice. Location is in a plaza, so parking wasn't hard even on a busy day a few weeks before Christmas. We were just going to get a light lunch, so we only tried the pizza. we ended up going with the 16" crab pizza for $27.45. I think the price was a little bit much however I do think the pizza was very good!! I would like to go and try other pizzas. It was fired perfectly on their wood fire stove. read more

Stopped in for lunch with my girlfriend around 12pm. The service was great and the food was very good. We got their wings (battered fried) and pepperoni pizza with regular sauce. The wings were okay but had way too much batter on them and it made it very thick. The pizza was outstanding! Cooked perfectly with lots of pepperonis. Came here on a Saturday for a quick bite with the family during lunchtime. The restaurant wasn't that busy so we got seated right away. I ordered the chicken tender kids meal for my son and we got a pizza with pepperoni and banana peppers. I also ordered their Coal Fire salad with grilled chicken on top. All was very delicious. There were parts I enjoyed and parts I did not. I did enjoy that the time frame I was given for my pizza to be ready (25-30minutes; on a Friday night) was met. I did appreciate that the coal fire oven, was truly coal fired. On the pizza I ordered I got the signature sauce (slightly sweet with a hint of spice); I personally found there to only be sweetness and the spice was nowhere to be found. I have mixed feelings about the crust. It was thin, however it was extremely flimsy! I did appreciate that there was some char from the oven, but I'd personally prefer more. I also appreciated that it was not greasy! I also ordered their wings. I ordered 8 of their Coal Fire Classic wings, I personally like an oven cooked wing over a fried wing. What I wasn't a fan of was it tasted like a rotisserie chicken, I was anticipating more flavor. The place was bright and inviting when we arrived and were seated quickly with menus for food and drinks. Serve arrived immediately to take our drink order and ask if we had any questions. We ordered the Lasagna Pizza and the Garlic Shrimp Crostini and had only a short wait until the appetizer arrived at the table. It was nicely presented, and plenty for 2 to share. The shrimp were cooked perfectly atop the grilled crostini with seasoning and sauce and were an excellent start to the meal. Within 15 minutes the pizza arrived which was out of this world good. It had the perfect char, consistency, flavor and chew to eh crust and with it being thin the flavors of the topping really stood out. The table had Parmesan and crushed red pepper flakes but we had all asked for sides of sauce to ago along with the pizza. The sauce arrived between the appetizer and pizza - (2) 2oz soufflé cups with cold pizza sauce. This being the reason the experience is only 4 stars instead of 5. We were not told the sauce was an extra cost. I still would have paid for the sauce, but would have liked it to have arrive warmed and in a 4 oz ramekin or monkey dish instead of cold soufflé cups. That being said it's a minor blip on the radar and certainly not something to not stop by to enjoy dinner, but more so a way for readers to understand that if they ask for something extra, then should also ask if there are additional costs associated. read more

While searching for a go-to pizza place, we tried out Coal Fire. We stopped in on a weekday evening and were quickly seated but the table was very sticky. It wasn't busy so the pizza came out quickly but it was a little too done for our taste. Perhaps carry-out is better. read more

Tried to order takeout but was ignored. Decided to go elsewhere after waiting 5 minutes at the door with no service.

Service was excellent, make no mistake, but the pizza was just good. It was our first visit, I got the spicy sauce on an individual pizza with pepperoni and banana peppers. The sauce was overwhelmingly sweet, as we're the banana peppers. Boyfriend got the prosciutto and onion pizza and though we both loved the onion and the crust the sauce was again over sweetened. I would love to visit again, but I don't think the pizza is in our future. read more

We had an average experience. The food was pretty delicious and we were served pretty fast. In the end we were super full so I ordered cannolis to go. The food is amazing. We ordered cheese pizza (with signature sauce) and mozzarella sticks. The host, waitstaff, bus people, and management could not be more friendly and accommodating. My spouse and I went out to dinner here for the first time with our baby and it was BUSY. But the staff worked hard to seat and serve us as quickly and efficiently as possible. Even though it was insanely busy (this was a Friday night), the staff made us feel special and we were treated very unbelievably well. This was our first time trying Coal Fire and it was absolutely amazing! The wife, little girl and I got the 16 inch for a little over $15 which is pretty awesome. Our waitress (a wonderful Asian girl) was really nice and I have not run into anyone that brings you a refill without even asking for one In a long time. I think that's how all waiters and waitress' should be. She gets a big thumbs up from me! The pizza is so light and crispy! We got classic sauce with basil, chicken, tomato slices and mushroom. We started with a 16 and when were down to 1 slice left we bought a second one with same toppings but a 12 inch. We love this place and will definitely come back for more! The one thing I love about this place is that even though we ate two pizzas, they were so light that we didn't feel that bloated fullness that you would from a regular pizza joint. My longtime disfavor of pizza has been upended! If you're going to stray a little from Keto or just enjoy a little gluten, this pizza dough is your reward. We ordered take out and it was my first time trying it. I've always heard great things so I was excited to try it. 40 dollars for a lg pizza and a like 5 pieces of calamari. Thought it was a little expensive but oh well I figured it was probably a more high end pizza place. Unfortunately the meal was GROSS. I was in the area and thought I'd try this spot over numerous restaurants in the area. I regret that decision. We decided to eat there and walked in at 8PM. The service left a lot to be desired even though there were probably only 2-3 tables with customers. We ordered and waited and waited and waited. At one point - after significant waiting - we were told our order would be a few minutes and I actually think we got it 20 minutes later. I finally told the waitress we wanted to take it to go. Even though she knew there was a long wait out food got cold as it took even more time for her to bring me the check. We walked out with food at 9PM. So an hour wait from entry to departure and we hadn't even eaten just for a 12 inch pizza and crabby Mac and cheese.
