First time visiting and absolutely loved it! Great pizza and very good customer service. Very reasonably priced. Food came out very fast! You have to try the signature sauce, it's sweet with a hint of spice...AMAZING!! read more

Coal Fire Pizza - 16" pizza, signature sauce, pepperoni, Italian sausage and roasted onions - Pizza Near Me - Frederick, Maryland

really love the pizza, salads and the Caprese is the best i've ever had. Highly recommend trying it!

Have only been to this location and always have a good experience. You get seated right away and the staff is nice...the food does take a bit of time but the pizza is made fresh so that's understandable. The signature sauce is the best, it's sweet and a bit spicy which is a great combination. The crust is super thin and crispy which I love and all of the vegetable toppings are good. The onion rings are also pretty good but didn't like the chicken wings as they were boiled. read more

Coal Fire Pizza - Signature sauce with mushrooms, green peppers and pepperoni - Pizza Near Me - Frederick, Maryland

The other night, I decided to take on Coalfire. I was intrigued by the pizza, and the appearance of the restaurant and I decided to give it a try. Not only was the pizza great but the service was incredible. Great job by the waitress the entire time. I specifically wanted to recognize a worker who's name was "Martina". She was such a nice young lady and had a smile on her face the entire time. She made our experience even better! Coalfire is great food and great service, perfect place to bring the family. read more

The good: I've always had good service here. The last time we visited was a few weeks ago with friends and our server was friendly and patient with our group. He checked on us often for refills and made sure our waters were full. Also their happy hour is great! The okay: Pizza! It's decent and there are lots of topping options. The crust is really tasty! The bad: While the pizza is pretty good the other items aren't. The last time I ate here I got eggplant parmesan and it was disappointing. The sauce and pasta were okay but the eggplant was hard and flavourless. read more

Not impressed! I had heard such great things about Coal Fire, and it's not just that I don't think it lived up to the hype- I just don't think it's good. We were encouraged by our server to try the signature sauce because "the other two don't taste good" and that's where it went majorly wrong for me. The signature sauce is a mix of savory and sweet, but for my taste, it's just weird. There is a very strong and distinctive honey taste in the sauce which I thought would be interesting, but just didn't work for me. The crust and toppings were fine, but the sauce really just ruined the experience. With so many other pizza options in Frederick, this is one place I won't be returning to! read more

Tried the pasta and it was surprisingly good. Came with side salad and bread slices. It was enough food for two meals. Happy hour specials are great. Rating might become 5 stars if the food continues to be this good! read more

This is a favorite place of our family. We usually go at least once a week. Lots of great options and pricing. The pizza is unique and tasty with fresh ingredients. The subs are priced just right. I like that a side is optional. Friendly and attentive staff. read more

Since we had family over for Easter dinner on a Saturday, Sunday we had some family still at the house and looked for places to eat. To no surprise, not many places were open and we came across Coal Fire. We had heard good things so decided to give it a try and they were open! The service, from hostess to the wait staff, was so friendly and eager to assist. We ordered their house salad to start off with and were all impressed with it. Their house dressing was very tasty and loved the olives, pepperoncini and nice slice of bread with it, Not knowing how much the pizza would fill us, the waitress suggested ordering the 16" and she would check back to see if we wanted to order another. For thin slice, and after a salad, there was no reason to order a second which was surprising. We went with the "Signature" sauce which is a nice blend of sweet and spicy to go along with the pepperoni and Italian sausage. We have been back since and tried different pizza variations; their Spicy sauce is totally just that (a bit too much for my girlfriend), the signature is a good "go to" choice and the classic is also a nice choice for those who do not want to take away from their toppings. We have enjoyed every trip we have made there thus far as everyone working there is friendly, polite and courteous. Waiting for a nice cool evening to sit on their patio area. Bonus: Mondays are 1/2 pizza for the entire restaurant, not just the 12" they offer for half price at the bar during the week! read more

Stopped for lunch with three adults and two children. Nice, attractive restaurant with an open kitchen, and large roomy very comfortable booths. We ordered an appetizer order of their French fries to share and wow, it was a generous (huge!) basket of piping hot, delicious fries. Kids ordered a pepperoni pizza to share (12") and it was plenty with a big slice left over. The adults ordered a basket of 16 wings, plain with the two sauces on the side and a 16" pizza (3 meat with fresh basil and roasted peppers added) - the pizza was outstanding - thin crust, meats including pepperoni, meatballs, and ham. The basil was a delicious addition as were the meatballs. The wings were fantastic as well - though they come buried in a large quantity of sautéed onions and strips of pizza crust - a bit strange poking through all that to get to the wings. Unnecessary. The wings though, once found, were perfectly cooked and the sauces - a Buffalo sauce and a bbq sauce - were very tasty. Beer menu was a bit limited but not a big deal at lunch. Service was attentive and friendly. Recommend this great restaurant. read more

Came here during a fundraiser for our school. This was our first trip. We were a fairly large party but were seated right away. All of the employees that we interacted with were very nice. The restaurant was clean. Nice atmosphere. The pizza was good. Especially the pepperoni. The buffalo chicken wasn't very spicy though. read more

Horrible customer service. We called on Saturday around 5:30 pm to schedule a pick up for 6:30pm, this was the first thing I said to the lady who answered the phone, she had a horrible attitude from the jump. I thought maybe she had a rough day and didnt take it personal. I told her the pizzas, Salads and sides I wanted to order. She then said it would be ready in 15-20 mins although I already stated i would like to pick up at 6:30. Before i could respond she hung up or ask a question. She didnt repeat my order, confirm my name and phone number or even tell me what my total was. Why? I was very disappointed so I called THEM back to cancel my order but i tried 3 times and no answer. So they didnt waste their time but they didnt bother answering. During this time I really want to support local business's and give them my money but this employee shorted her company of business. I wont ever go there. read more

Pizza's like sex. Even when it's bad, it's pretty sweet. And that's pretty much the mindset I had when I entered this place for the first time. I got there about an hour after the lunch rush (if there was one), so I was quickly taken care of by a very nice waitress. After she ascertained this was my first visit, she immediately went into her "Welcome to Coal Fire" sales pitch. Towards the end, she informed me that beverages are Coke products, iced tea and water. That kind of bummed me out. I like beer with pizza. She also added at the end, "Because of the way we cook our pizzas, it's better to get at least three or four toppings." Nothing like blatantly upselling the customer at the point-of-purchase. I threw caution to the wind and opted for only two toppings, peppers and onions, and got one of them "Coke products." She brought me the soda right away and I was half way through it when I noticed the small beverage menu at another table. The damn place had about 20 different beers and I was drinking sugar water! I asked the waitress why she never mentioned the word "beer" in her opening monologue. She smiled back, "Oh, yeah. We have a full bar on the other side," and then toddled away. When the pizza arrived, there were no real surprises. The crust had a commendable char, but the toppings, especially the cheese, were on the skimpy side. They say "less is more," and I'm sure that applies at CFP - the less stuff they put on the pizza, the more money they make. Don't get me wrong, the pie's ingredients were decent, but that 12" pizza weighed about four ounces. Getting back to the sex simile. A pizza from the Ledo's up the road is (I imagine) like having sex with Hilary Duff, whereas a pizza from Domino's is like having sex with Hilary Swank. The pizza from Coal Fire was like having sex with Hillary Clinton. That beer would have helped. read more

Updated review - our previous experience left us feeling a bit ambivalent about Coal Fire, which was reflected in my last review. I really respect Coal Fire, because Justin from Coal Fire reached out and communicated with me about our experience there and invited us to come back and try it again. We did and the pizza was awesome. It was all baked perfectly and we really enjoyed it. The veggie pizza with the caramelized onions was incredible and the spicy sauce is still on point and the service, as always, was perfect. I absolutely recommend giving them a try. Any place that cares enough about its customers to reach out and start a dialogue about the customer's experience gets huge props in my book. read more

I am a crazy carnivore and do not usually go for anything that does not contain meat. Well, Coal Fire proved to me that pizza with just cheese and excellent tomato sauce can be delicious, too! The thin pizza crust is tasty and is cooked perfectly. The sauce that they use is better than anything I've tried before. Needless to say that if you've nailed the first two items, everything else no matter how authentic is going to taste absolutely great on top of that! They have a great selection of local beers as well. read more

Super legit pie!! Try everything including the crab Mac and Cheese. Friendly staff and real coal fired oven!

Shut The Front Door!!! I think Coal Fires claim to fame is their Coal ovens. I've had pizza baked in wood ovens before so I was looking forward to eating at Coal Fire. I had their House sauce which was supposed to be Sweet and Spicy, It was just Sweet and the Coal Fire didn't make a difference to the taste.. There were three of us at my table an all felt the same way, delivery would have been better". To be fair I didn't try their salads, or their Pasta, or even the Rib-eye sandwich cooked on a Coal Fire grill. I had Pizza, there's Pizza in the name right? I thought so though I couldn't be sure by the way our server try to tell me that next time I should try other items from the menu. A 16 inch Pizza with sodas cost just 5.99 with a Groupon Coupon. OK - I have read the reviews of the others and they rated this place with confidence in their reviews. I am with the family and we are doing Sunday Lunch. Let's start with the facility. Nice decor and pleasing to the eye. Staff is friendly, but fall short in knowledge of the ingredients of their menu items. You see we have someone who has a major milk Allergy (like go into shock rush to hospital) so cheese is an issue. When asked about if meatballs a firm no cheese but further asking revealed "yes they do." On to the food - We all ordered pasta dishes. I think to charge over $3 for adding chicken is a bit excessive. Along with the actual cost of the menu items this place is pricey. Our salads were plain not too exciting. For the prices paid I expect real plates not plastic. Now onto the main food. Creole Pasta - overpowering garlic Pesto Pasta - very oily and we added chicken and got about 4 pieces. Spaghetti with meatball sub chicken - bland and watery bowl had 1/3" of discolored red liquid in the bottom of the bowl. Mac & Cheese with crab - pasta with cheese sauce and some shredded crab that came to about an ounce or less. No flavor and a waste of money. Overall the meal cost over $60 for four persons. I could have gotten better pasta from Pizza Hut. This place is over priced and under impressive in all areas. Wait staff assumes things they should not and was unresponsive or absent. This is not a place I will return too as if I want pasta I will go to Mama Lou's just down the road. And if I want fire oven pizza I will go to Ilforno's. As the mob guys say "Coal Fire Pizza - Forget-About It". read more

Made two visits to Coal Fire, one after they first opened, and one on 8 July. The first trip was average, and we tried the Margherita pizza with the classic sauce. It wasn't bad, but having just come back from a trip to Naples, Italy I found it left a bit to be desired. The most recent trip, we tried a pepperoni pizza with the signature sauce(a sweet and spicy blend). Overall, the pizza was charred more than I would have liked, which is not uncommon when doing a very thin crust in a wood or coal fired oven. A high protein bread flour would work better for them, as it allows the crust to bake more completely in the intense heat without the charring that can occur. The crust from the first visit was significantly underdone. I'm not a big fan of that kind of inconsistency. Overall, if the scope of your pizza favorites are from places like domino's and papa johns, and you don't mind a thin and crispy crust, you probably wont be disappointed, although I'd be surprised if you added it to your lust of favorites. If you've had occasion to try a Neapolitan Margherita pizza done well, to the true 'Vera' standard though, you will be very disappointed. They don't come close. The service was sub par, with sporadic visits from the waitress who seemed too busy to be bothered with the distraction of guests. Refills on drinks took forever. Additionally, there was a very pungent odor in the restaurant, reminiscent of a bucket of mop water left to sit unattended for a couple weeks. It was bad enough that the couple who was seated next to us decided to leave before ordering. Lack of attentiveness To that sort of detail is inexcusable in my opinion, and I feel is demonstrative of an indifferent management. On a final note, upon observation of the rest of the guests as we were leaving, I noted most were eating salads or sandwiches. Having never tried them, I can't comment on the quality, but I thought it worth noting, however I don't feel I will return to try one for myself. All in all, two stars because while the food was sub par, I think there is a good degree of potential for this place if only they would put some much needed effort into some key places. read more

Ordered delivery through door dash. Arrived quickly but the pizza was stone cold. We were scared to eat it as it seemed straight out of the refrigerator and we didn't know how old it actually was. I kinda like this place The pasta dishes are very good I'm not too sure about the pizza but that could just be my taste. They have very good happy hour specials and good wings If you get the right bartender you will have a very good Dining experience at the bar area I would look for the very light skin white girl with blonde hair She will treat you like a human being if I see the other one there I had last time I will keep on going all in all a good atmosphere and good food Would be 5 stars but that last bartender just pissed me off Don't ask for much just look my way and ask if I need another beer read more

The waitress came once and gave us our drinks after 10 minutes and never came back. Then we waited another 15 minutes for 1 straw. Air conditioning wasn't working either which made it very hot. Brisket takes a long time to cook, so it's a treat to have it prepared for you at a restaurant. I also don't eat gluten so was pleased the BBQ sauce they used didn't have any gluten in it. However when I tried my Brisket it was so dry it seemed like they used an apple cider press to squeeze ALL the fat out of it. Very tough going. So, if you are someone who subscribes to the idea that fat is bad for you and sugar is just fine you could get by ordering an extra side of BBQ sauce. But for me, I'd rather have a nice juicy brisket...somewhere else. read more

Upon entering we were immediately greeted and seated. We ate on the Bar side. Our server was kind, fast and efficient. We had the 16" pizza with signature sauce and the calamari. This pizza is very hit or miss for me, with an emphasis on the miss. I think the main problem is that they use thin-sliced mozzarella which provides very poor cheese coverage and you end up with a very saucy pizza (something I'm personally not a fan of). read more

Coal Fire Pizza - 1/2 mushroom onion, 1/2 cheese - Pizza Near Me - Frederick, Maryland

I've been here before, but never reviewed it...shame on me. After trying several other pizza joints in Frederick...I think we have finally settled on that this as our official pizza spot! Pizza is baked in a 900 degree oven. They are nice a thin...crispy and delicious. They offer several sizes which is perfect for us to order a large for all the kids and a small for the hubby and I. We like to do a small so we can also share a salad. We had the coal fire salad with thick cut bacon, tomato and a honey mustard dressing. It was a good sized salad...so hubby and I shared...sort of...I think I ate significantly more, I know this because as I sopped up the last bit of dressing and bacon with my toasty bread, I caught him staring at me funny. I didn't care. Then they let you choose between their original pizza sauce, a sweet signature sauce or heir spicy sauce. I ten to favor the sweet sauce....but the spicy sauce hit the spot too. Service has always been great...and food comes out quickly. The prices are also very fair. They also have a bar area...if you want to grab a bite away from the families...just in case that's your thing. But all around a must try while in Frederick!!! read more

Not the best quality food lately, service to match. Maybe post-COVID they will get better.

I was in Coal Fire a few weeks back. My wife and I sat at the bar for lunch. The food was excellent and so was the service. The bartender (I forget her name. Sorry) was nice enough to change the channel for us while we waited for the food which I found to be very nice. We were checked on a couple minutes once food was delivered to us. We felt valued and cared about. Thank you so much for the great food and service A++++ read more

My girlfriend and I have been to Coal Fire many times over the years and have never had any issues with the food or service. Our last visit was a nightmare. The lack of communication made us decide that we will never return. read more

It's hard to go wrong with a pizza place, right? The place looks nice and we had a very bubbly waitress. We decided to go about a week ago during lunch on Saturday. There was only one other table occupied- not a good sign. The pizza was OK. Nothing special and skimpy on the cheese. For the price I was hoping for something better than Little Caesars. Mu hubby got a pasta dish that he didn't even bother to finish... and that's saying something. When our bill came, my husband promptly but down his card, but it took a good 10-12 minutes for the waitress to come take our money. By that point, we were so done and just wanted to leave. This is not a place we'll never go back to. Frederick has so many amazing restaurants- this wasn't one of them. read more

I always have good service at this location. Servers are nice and the food comes out pretty fast. They're timely with taking your order even when they're busy. The restaurant is designed similarly to other locations I've visited. Unfortunately, some of the tables for two are wedged between larger tables. As a result, there isn't much privacy when you are dining for two. The restaurant is always clean and bright which I appreciate. My favorite appetizer is the Calamari. They make it with jalapeños and peppers and no dipping sauce is needed! I also like the baked wings with onions and pita bread. I'm normally a fan of pizza with lots of sauce. Coal Fire pizza isn't saucy, but I love it! The crust is rather thin so it has just the right amount of sauce and cheese for that type crust. The Ring of Fire pizza is amazing so give it a try if you can handle a little heat. read more

Service-3 Food-2 Restaurant -2.5 What is the hype with this place? Went in on a Saturday night at 8pm. Barely any patrons in the restaurant. Sat at the bar, our bartender was nice but food was totally lacking. Calamari was drenched in some oily watery sauce and served with jalapenos (out of a jar). My pizza was flabby and not good. I got a margherita pizza and ive had better pizza from Dominos. I won't be back here probably. read more

This will be my last time ordering from here. The had a nice pizza when they first opened. Crispy crust with a generous amount of toppings They have steadily declined with the texture and taste of the pizza and topping portion. Twice in the last few months we have ordered a veggie pizza for pickup. Both time I made a phone call to the manager to express my disappointment. Was told in order to keep the crust crispy the topping had to be light. I have never heard of this before.
