    Spaghetti Bolognese

My girlfriend and I stopped in on a Saturday night before going to sample the many beverages of downtown Frederick. The service wasn't bad and we were one of 3 tables at the time. A majority of the stuff was huddled at the bar on their cell phones watching videos and showing each other while the bartender was eating olives out of the jar. The bread was ice cold with packs of individual butter, which left a lot to be desired. The food was very average at best. The bolognese was really just ground beef and sauce and not a traditional bolognese. The spaghetti and meatballs wasn't bad but was just covered in too much sauce. The tiramisu was good but it doesn't taste like a traditional one. It has a lot of cinnamon and was covered in a lot of cocoa powder. Overall, the experience wasn't anything great.

I'm embarrassed it took us this long to get here. Don't do make the same mistake. Eccelente !!! Table in the front window. Started with Calamari, Barrata, & Cream of Crab Bisque (the Bisque was the only thing that was meh. Just ok) Everything else absolutely delish. She got the Veal Roast & I got the Cioppino Topped it off with Canoli and lemoncello on the house. Oh yea and a nice bottle of Chianti. Someone call an Uber 8)

Il Porto has really gone downhill. I came here on a Saturday with a party of 5. We did not have a reservation, but the manager told us no problem that he would get us a table in a few minutes. So we waited outside. The restaurant was busy so I was a little skeptical about how long we would have to wait. My party was debating if we should go somewhere else. I went back inside after 15 minutes and asked if our table was ready. The manager gave me an annoyed look and said "I told you it would only be a few minutes". Well, about a total of 30 minutes later, we were seating at a small circular table in the corner that was clearly meant for a party of max 4 people. We were cramped in this tight spot. I noticed that another party was finishing up and asked the manager if we can get their table instead to which he agreed. Upon being seated, our server was a young woman, whose name I unfortunately did not get. She handed us our menus and served us their complimentary bread. The bread was cold and so was the butter. This is a huge pet peeve of mine when food establishments provide cold bread with cold butter, making it almost impossible to spread to hard butter. Every time I dine at Il Porto, I usually get their linguine with white clam sauce ($21.99), so I ordered the same dish I am familiar with. When I got it the sauce was very runny and salty. I normally do not like sending dishes back, but the pasta was so salty to the point where I could not eat it. I kindly asked our server if she could just give me the red sauce instead and she agreed. The manager then came up to me and instead of simply apologizing, he asked me "What do you want to do about it?? We put no salt in the dish at all - only garlic, lemon and wine." I politely told him that not only did I think it was salty, but so did some of the people at my table who I had try the dish. I am annoyed with the manager's attitude and disrespect. When they sent me my replacement dish, my group had already finished eating so they had to wait for me to be done while I ate alone. No apology nor any sort of compensation was offered. I am disappointed by not only the quality of food, but how poorly things were handled at Il Porto.

Nice Italian place. Food was good, dessert was great. I got a seafood pasta very good. Device was fine. It can be a bit crowded on weekend evenings.

Oddest part was while we sat there - there was a 2 top table free almost the whole time we were eating. So - we could have easily been waited on in a normal setting. Nice place overall - different areas to sit, outside dining, etc etc. Service however was atrocious. It may be the fact they don't have enough people in the wait staff, but our waitress was as absent as it gets. Asked for a refill, took forever - after ordering appetizer it would have been good to then put in our entree order - but wasn't until the pizza came out 25 min later that we could do that. Asked for bread, she remembered after our entrees came out 45min after ordered - 4 small cubes. You would think when you're struggling at waiting on a table, you'd try and make up for it. Pizza was good. We got a Margherita pizza - standard and fresh as we watched them make it. For my entree I got the penne vodka and added a meatball. Lol. No sauce on that meatball and it was cold. Flavor was good on entree. The next time the waitress came back I begged for the check - to which we paid and got out of there as "quick" as we could. Food 4/5 Service 1/5

We took a table in the rear enclosed patio area near the bar. To start we ordered the meatball sliders. Two come with an order and they were good. I liked the toasted slider rolls, the tangy sauce and the spiciness of the meatball. Recommend cutting it in half to eat it without it flying out of the roll. Overall a good start. I ordered the gnocchi primavera which really wasn't in the traditional sense - as the vegetables were puréed together into an orange sauce. Had a good flavor and was served with burrata. Starters and entrees came out very close to each other which wasn't a bad thing. We also added a margherita pizza to share which looked weird - but tasted great. Nice crisp to the crust and thin. I usually think of a doughier crust with this kind of pizza but still good. Dessert was the fudge cake - rich in flavor, adding a coffee. Overall - would have loved to sit inside and get that experience but still good considering we didn't have a reservation. Our waiter - younger guy out back we good, though at times we leaned on the other bartender to help get refills.

I really appreciated how far apart the tables are to allow for conversations you can hear and more space in the cold/flu season. I had a Chocolate Martini and my husband ordered a Lemondrop Martini (not on the menu) but was definitely good. The basket of the fluffy, soft, warm rolls were incredible and something I will come back for. I got the Mediterranean bruschetta special which came with feta, crabmeat, tomatoes, balsamic glaze and lots of other yummy things on four pieces of bruschetta. It was delicious. The shrimp scampi over the thin fresh noodles was a pleasure - really loved how big the shrimp were and the large helping of pasta. My husband got the lasagna which was good although they used some different cheeses which made it taste a little different but still good. Amanda our waitress was quick, pleasant, and took good care of us. Fratelli's is a Resy restaurant. Make reservations ahead of time, since on Saturdays even at 4:00 pm, all the reservations are already booked for the night. I have returned to Fratelli's for a work group lunch. Kendra was excellent, taking care of our large group with professionalism, efficiency, and a warm smile and manner. I got the !4" pizza which is a deep dish pizza - just perfect - not too buttery. I got sausage which had the long slices of sausage on it, not spicy. You can only eat one or two pieces out of the thick eight slices, the pizza is thick so expect to share or take it home for several more lunches.

While we have routinely enjoyed ourselves here before, our last visit was seriously soured with a very rude, entitled host. So much so that the manner in which he spoke to us actually made my wife extremely nervous. The manager knows who he is. I don't see us ever returning unless the host has been released from his assignment there. It's unfortunate for the restaurant because we are not afraid to enjoy anything on the menu and we tip very well (I was a waiter once, too). What an unfortunate loss for the person who would have benefited from what would have been our time there. We ended up going to Manalu and had a really terrific experience there.
