This restaurant is a hidden gem! The food is excellent, the owner is delightful, and there's plenty of room, so you don't typically have to wait. The meatballs and sausage are handmade, the bread is fresh, the salad crisp with a delicious house made balsamic dressing and the main course was yummy. I highly recommend the tiramisu as well. The main parking is in the back, so it may look like no one is there when there really are folks, so don't let that dissuade you from coming to the restaurant. I give this one 5 stars!!! read more

Came here on a Saturday at 11:30am. Walking in the I thought the decor and set up was pretty and welcoming. The restaurant only had one other table but they did open at 11am so I just assumed people hadn't shown up yet. After seated was approached by a cook asking what we wanted to drink. He took our order, brought out our food all together bread, appetizers, salads and entrees. After food was delivered we didn't see anyone again the whole time. I ordered the linguine and clams, we had the Calamari and a Caesar salad. The bread they brought out was good but the oil that accompanied it was unseasoned and had entirely too much minced garlic. Salad was delicious, Calamari was severely underseasoned and the entree was very buttery but and still tasted like white wine. I wanted very much to love this place but honestly for nobody being in there I felt the service should have been more attentive. Nobody even asked if we wanted a refill on drinks. I was so surprised how disappointing my experience was here considering the many high reviews. When we arrived, we noticed the floor felt sticky and the tables did as well. Bread was brought to the table, and it was so hard and the bottom was nearly burnt. The oil with spices was good though. We ordered the calamari appetizer, and it was extremely chewy and had no flavor at all. The texture was SO strange! It also seemed like a calamari paste formed into a ring and fried. It didn't have the normal flat ring shape and texture. The texture was like fish balls often used in Asian cuisine. I truly have no idea what it was. We got salads next that came with the meals we ordered. The Caesar salad was so bland and soggy. My husband's house salad was okay, but the greens were a bit sad looking and the olives tasted really off. The lasagna I ordered was truly one of the worst I've ever had. It tasted slightly off/sour and it had weird hot spots like it was reheated/microwaved or something. Nearly burned me a few times. The pasta was tough and the meat was almost like pâté. No flavor to the meat and mixed together with the ricotta so it felt like no distinct layers. Some parts of the pasta was brown. It was really unpleasant in every way. Husband had the alfredo, and he said it was okay. To me, it had a burnt taste that hits you before you even take a bite and a bitter aftertaste. By happenstance, my wife and I decided to try Mangia Bistro (MB) this past week, after my wife said she wanted "Italian" and I just happened upon a line from a review for MB that read in part, " the best Italian food I've ever had." Well, since I've actually eaten Italian food in Italy, I cannot say i that the food at MB was the "best" Italian food I've eaten, but it was very VERY good! I suppose we had never eaten at MB before because the restaurant's exterior is quite unassuming, and the restaurant's location is not something that evokes thoughts of great places to eat nearby. But, I am glad we gave it a try. Since we had not eaten at MB before, I decided we would splurge a bit and order an appetizer AND a dessert AND, a pizza from which we could split a slice and reserve the remainder for take home. As an appetizer, we ordered the Stuffed Mushrooms and for dessert, we had the Tiramisu. The Stuffed Mushrooms were tasty and were warm, not hot. The breading was interesting, sort of like a cornbread but, not really, with bits of cranberries. So savory with a hint of sweet. They were good and would have been great, had they been piping hot. But, I understand why they might allow them to cool a little before serving, since mushrooms tend to squirt scalding hot water immediately after being cooked, removed from a fryer. The homemade Tiramisu was sliced in pie shape, rather than the typical square that appears cut from a frozen, boxed ready-made option. The Tiramisu was obviously homemade and was delicious!! It was garnished with whipped cream and strawberries, and was drizzled with caramel, which was unique, but also delicious! We ordered the Margherita Pizza and though I am not a big fan of Sun-dried Tomatoes the pizza was also delicious! As our entrees, my wife had the Spaghetti Carbonara, I had the Lasagna. Both were very VERY tasty! The portion sizes were more than ample, given the amount of food we ordered. I generally order Lasagna when eating Italian and I usually ask for the cheese on top to be browned well. For some strange reason, I rarely receive what I hope to; as if the person doing the "browning" of my cheese is afraid of overdoing it. Hmmm... not possible! In this case, my Lasagna was perfectly done! The interior of MB was very clean and bright; decorated mostly in Honey Oak colored wood and Limestone. Our Server, Austin, was friendly and attentive. We only had water and iced tea for drinks and they were good, with nothing off putting to report. We will definitely be eating at MB again, and if you're looking for great Italian food, then you won't be disappointed if you too give Mangia Bistro a try!! Eat well. Be well. Cheers! read more

Randomly was driving up 75 in the passenger seat for once and happened to notice this place and decided to check it out. It's a locally owned place with plenty of seating. We were sat quickly and the waitstaff took our drink orders. While reviewing the menu the owner personally greeted us and we had a chance to chat with him about the place which was really nice. For app we had the mozzarella fritti and fried calamari. Both were fried perfectly and had great taste. The cheese pull was slightly disappointing but not worth anything to cry about. For entrees I had the chicken carbonara and my partner had the lasagna. I love the carbonara as it hit all the right notes of salty but not too much and the right level of creaminess. My partner loved the lasagna and said he wants to go back. We didn't get to dessert but the owner did mention they are made fresh. Overall, I will be going back again and hope others find this spot as well to help support a local Plano business. read more

My husband and I stopped in on a whim for dinner. Italian food sounded good, but feeling frustrated with our usual places we decided to try somewhere new. We were so pleasantly surprised to find such a gem so close to home! We started with the complementary bread and garlic/olive oil. So good! We also had the fried mozzarella as an appetizer. It was fried to perfection, had the perfect cheese pull, and was paired with their marinara sauce. I had the shrimp & risotto, which I loved. The shrimp were perfect and I loved the veggies they included in the risotto. It came with a house salad that has a lovely balsamic vinaigrette. My husband had the chicken parm. He said it was also cooked perfectly and enjoyed the sautéed veggies that were served with it alongside the traditional spaghetti and marinara. He also appreciated the generous portion size. She's not usually into adventurous cuisine, but the flavors, presentation, and warmth of the staff made the whole experience unforgettable. The service was above and beyond--they treated her like it was Mother's Day, even offering to cut her food and genuinely making her feel special. My husband is a self-proclaimed carbonara snob, and even he was impressed--clean plate and all. I had the branzino and it literally melted in my mouth. I wanted to try this restaurant, bc I've been told that it used to be Paesano's and it was really good, but unfortunately, I never had a chance to try it before when it was Paesano's. When we got there, it was around 2pm, so it wasn't busy at all. It's very spacious inside and we got seated right away. We were offered lunch menu, but we asked for the dinner menu, bc we wanted to see what they had on the dinner menu. We decided on mussels with lemon sauce, pasta Arabiatta for me and pasta with mushroom and marinara sauce for my partner. Our server brought us this freshly baked, delicious bread with olive oil!! It was so delicious, we got more for us, so we can dip it in a lemon sauce!! Our pastas came with salads. I got a Caesar and it was exceptionally good. My entree was good, but I was getting full from bread and salad, so I took the rest of it to go. My partner, unfortunately, didn't like his, bc he likes lots of sauce and he was annoyed that adding mushrooms was extra $9 and they didn't have the fountain drink machine and he said it smelt funny inside the restaurant which I didn't notice. Our recent experience with Thanksgiving catering was OVER THE TOP - lusciously flavorful and beautifully presented. We ordered turkey for 12 people. All I requested was "no carving necessary". The huge server was FULL of sliced and slivered pieces of turkey (white and dark meat) atop a bed of diced carrots, celery, onions and beautiful green beans in a flavorful broth. For my Lunch, I selected the Chicken Parmigiana, which came with a side salad, which was very delicious, both the salad and my main course! It not only tasted delicious but looked delicious too! Served with spaghetti and mixed vegetables! A Joy with every bite I ate! Everyone else said they loved their plates as well. Afterwards a few of us ordered dessert! I was just too full, I did sample the two that came to the table! The tiramisu and the crème brûlée! Both looked delicious, and both Tasted Delicious!
